For this, full transcriptions of the actual piano interpretations were realized, available in the attachments section, and then, analyzes that lead to the identification of recurrent aspects in these performances. Thus, we can find in the first chapter information on the album itself. Such information that will bring us an overview of its conception and realization. Adding criticism and testimonies found in newspapers and books, at close times to the release, to the information collected with some of the participants in its making, we illustrate aspects related to the career moment in which was the pianist in besides comprehending the "environment "that helped those involved to achieve the celebrated technical and musical results , opening the field to the deepening in music. The second chapter consists of the actual analysis. From the generated scores, nine disk parts: Baião Malandro, Palhaço, Loro, Maracatu, Karatê, Frevo, Água e Vinho, Infância e Cigana were observed from various points (best described the considerations and methodology) and some of the individual results and presented separately in the light of the most relevant aspects found in these analyzes. The third chapter consists of an synthesis of recurrently resulting elements of the analysis, aiming to externalize some of the usual features performed by the pianist to "give life" to their compositions through the performances, elements we could group as indicative of a musical idiosyncrasy / Mestrado / Música, Teoria, Criação e Prática / Mestre em Música

Horn Concerto in E-flat Major (C41) by Antonio Rosetti: A Critical EditionStewart, Brandon (Brandon Gregory) 12 1900 (has links)
This project delivers to the scholar and performer a critical edition of a little-known horn concerto by Antonio Rosetti. Standing in contrast to performance or practical editions, critical editions demand that the editor exerts a non-trivial measure of authority over the state of the text. Performers often find this fact to be uncomfortable given the normal tendency to revere the perceived intent of the composers based upon the text that they set down. When engaging with sources, it is rarely clear what that intent is, or which of the available sources most closely represents that intent. Those available sources often disagree with one another, even those in the composer's own hand. It is vital for the editor to know, as precisely as is possible, who created the source material, when they created these sources, and why they created these sources. At that point the editor must decide which sources will best fit his or her framework for the creation of the critical edition. At that point the editor will grapple with numerous inconsistencies and ambiguities within those sources, and then use his or her own authority to fix the text of the composer's work into a single version for today's use. The Horn Concerto in E-flat Major (C41) by Rosetti presents a unique case to the editor, scholar, and performer, in that it exists in two versions that carry substantial differences in the solo part. These differences are so great that it is often difficult to consider them as representative of the same work. This edition presents both versions, as each have different original purposes, and edits them in parallel so that the performer may determine which usage is most appropriate for his or her needs.

twee uitgawes aangebring is.
hierdie studies. / The aim of the dissertation is to determine the differences between the Yepes and Segovia editions by
comparing selected studies. In order to determine the correctness of the Yepes and Segovia editions both
are compared to the facsimile edition as well.
Yepes and Segovia both introduced a number of changes. The most typical of these are indicated and
possible reasons for their inclusion in the two editions are discussed.
The conclusion is that Yepes as well as Segovia had very definite reasons for including alterations to the
facsimile edition in their own editions. Both have in their own editions an individual and highly personal

The main objective of this research is to provide interpretative options of the "Ten Ponteios for Piano" by Nilson Lombardi, nationalist composer from Camargo Guarnieri composition school. For a better understanding of this process a brief account of the life and works of the composer is first presented, as well as a discussion of the Ponteio concept and the applicability of this term in Brazilian music. The methodology consists on delimitation of the procedures for analytical approach. This is a tool to contribute to a better understanding of the work and provide additional subsidies to assist and help on interpretative decisions. This research intended to provoke a discussion about the teaching of early music practice as part of the system of today's advanced music schools. For that, a panorama of music pedagogy in different epochs was made. As part of the context of the present study, the ancient teaching tradition of the artisans - the master and apprentice relationship - and the contemporary institutionalized system of music teaching, an heritage of the Paris Conservatory model, were put together facing its differences and antagonisms. The study suggests a way of reading the historical pedagogical documents related to violin teaching through the perspective of the two pedagogical universes. The rediscovery of the early music practice, in the XXth century, was analyzed in its pedagogical consequences: the inclusion of period-instrument teaching as part of the music educational system. In this vision, there is an especial look in the paradox of the artisanal thought - as part of the didactics of the ancien régime - inside the methodized form of modern teaching. Through a panorama of the present situation of early music instruction in the advanced schools, from its origins, and with the particular testimony of the pioneer Sigiswald Kuijken, the research puts in evidence the paradox of the historical didactic of the artisans inside the modern methodized system as a possible direction for the future of music teaching - a new era, more conscious of its role as a successor of the canonic ideals of the Romantic times / Doutorado / Praticas Interpretativas / Doutor em Música

An investigation into Historically Informed Performance Practice among South African flute pedagogues and playersMonard, Merryl Katherine 20 November 2008 (has links)
This study investigates the status of Historically Informed Performance Practice among the South African flute-playing fraternity. Consequently, grounds are established on which to claim a lack of the implementation of Historically Informed Performance Practice in South African flute pedagogy and playing. The main research question that underpins this study is:

Why is there a lack of integration of Historically Informed Performance Practice into the mainstream of current flute performance practice among South African flute pedagogues and players?

This research question is addressed through three sub-questions:

Is there an awareness of Historically Informed Performance Practice in South Africa as outlined by performance and pedagogy internationally?

How is Historically Informed Performance Practice incorporated into the South African flute examinations system?

Does the knowledge of Historically Informed Performance Practice prepare one to be a balanced musician or flautist?

The findings that emerge from the investigation of the research questions are:

South African flute pedagogues fail to differentiate between Historically Informed Performance Practice and ‘authenticity’. This could be attributed to the fact that relatively little research and discourse into Historically Informed Performance Practice has been conducted by South African scholars and musicologists.

While Historically Informed Performance Practice is thought to enhance students’ performances of Early Music, resulting in better-balanced musicians, it has not been significantly exploited by South African flute players.

South African flute students are superficially aware of some elements of performance practice, but are generally not historically informed with regard to the performance of Early Music.

There is no clear indication of Historically Informed Performance Practice being incorporated into the South African independent flute examination system.

While there are numerous specialists in Early Music locally, flute pedagogues and players perceive them to be scarce, perhaps due to a lack of discernable demand for historically informed performances by South African audiences.

The research synthesises questionnaire and interview data from local flute pedagogues, Early Music specialists and both national and international flute students in an attempt to discover the reason for the lack of Historically Informed Performance Practice in South Africa. Additionally, a survey of websites detailing South African Early Music activity is performed using the Internet, in order to ascertain if the basis for a future in Historically Informed Performance Practice exists nationally. Lastly, content analyses of the three primary South African independent examination boards’ syllabi and of the former flute periodical, Flufsa News, elucidate the status of Historically Informed Performance Practice nationally. / Dissertation (MMus)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Music / unrestricted
