Lietuvos žiniasklaidos konstruojamas nevyriausybinių organizacijų įvaizdis / Image of non-governmental organizations constructed by Lithuanian mediaKaškelienė, Loreta 03 February 2012 (has links)
Visuotinai pripažįstama, kad stipri pilietinė visuomenė – demokratijos bei pažangos pagrindas. Apie demokratijos išsivystymą šalyje paprastai sprendžiama, atsižvelgiant kokią įtaką valstybėje turi bei kokiu mastu veikia visuomeninės pilietinės organizacijos, dabar vadinamos nevyriausybinėmis organizacijomis . Kuo aktyvesnė pilietinė visuomenė šalyje, tuo valstybės valdymas būna „skaidresnis“. Nevyriausybinių organizacijų sektoriaus plėtra yra viena iš pagrindinių valstybės funkcijų tobulinimo galimybių, kadangi valstybė gali perleisti dalį savo funkcijų NVO sektoriui . Kadangi organizacijų įvaizdį viena iš pirmųjų formuoja žiniasklaida, o nevyriausybinės organizacijos yra ne pelno siekiančios organizacijos, neturinčios reikiamų finansinių resursų, kuriuos galėtų skirti organizacijos viešinimui, įvaizdžio formavimui, itin svarbu išanalizuoti kokią informaciją apie NVO komunikacinėje erdvėje pateikia žiniasklaida. Šio darbo objektas - Lietuvos žiniasklaidos komunikuojamas nevyriausybinių organizacijų įvaizdis 2009-2011 m.m. Darbo tikslas – ištirti kokį nevyriausybinių organizacijų įvaizdį formuoja Lietuvos žiniasklaida. Pagrindiniai darbo uždaviniai: atlikti NVO sektoriaus vaidmenų ir funkcijų visuomenės raidoje teorinę analizę; identifikuoti nevyriausybinių organizacijų įvaizdžio ypatumus; nustatyti žiniasklaidos vaidmenį nevyriausybinių organizacijų įvaizdžio formavime, pateikti NVO įvaizdžio kūrimo žiniasklaidoje kliūtis.
Magistro darbe, remiantis šiuolaikinėmis... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / It is generally recognized, that a strong civil society is democracy and progress in ground. NGOs and social development : an assessment of the participants' perceptions of the effects of World Changers Academy's life skills education program, eThekwini Municipality.Momo, Gillo Lekane. January 2009 (has links)
In South Africa, young people are faced with many challenges such as HIV/AIDS, unemployment, poverty, and access to secure education and skills. In that context, NGOs involved in youth development, through their social intervention programs, can serve as platforms that can help to mitigate some of these social scourges. This research was set out to assess the participants’ perceptions of the effects of World Changers Academy’s life skills program. World Changers Academy (WCA) is a local NGO that operates in the eThekwini Municipality with the aim of empowering young people for life success through life skills-based education. Data were collected through interviews and a focus group discussion at YMCA, Durban and at WCA’s Leadership Centre in Shongweni. According to the findings, many participants perceived that the program was beneficial because it has helped them to increase their knowledge, to develop values and good attitudes, to acquire some job preparation skills, and some other critical skills that will potentially help them to cope better with the challenges they faced regularly. / Thesis (M.A.)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, 2009.

Corporate social responsibility programmes and their beneficiary organisations : an examination of the sustainability of the relationships between corporate social responsibility programmes and their targeted beneficiary organisations.Gee, Rosemarie Frigstad. January 2012 (has links)
This study raises important questions about the motivation that is driving companies to adopt
social responsibly programmes, and why they should engage in the field of social
development in the first place. Many would argue that the role of business is to make profit
and that their only responsibility is to act within the law, while others urge the need for
business to get more socially involved and become more accountable in terms of their actions.
Particular in developing countries, where governments are often dysfunctional and
ineffective, private sector hold the key to resources that does not exist elsewhere, and should
contribute to improve those societies. As a result of increased awareness of the role of
business in society, which has been triggered through numerous corporate scandals
throughout the past decades, the term corporate social responsibility (CSR) has gained great
attention. Today, most big companies invest a notable amount of money in CSR programmes
of various kinds, however, it is not always clear why they do this. Is it because they really care
and want to make a change, or is it because they want to gain or maintain a good public
reputation? CSR has long been accused for what has been called “green-washing”, in the
sense that it is only an attempt to conceal any forms of unethical and irresponsible behaviour.
Nevertheless, there has also been a growing perception that business should play a greater
role in the social aspects of society, and by carefully selecting their programmes, this can lead
to win-win situations for all the stakeholders involved.
This study aims to examine these issues by addressing the need for more sustainable and
transparent stakeholder relationships between the companies and the beneficiary
organisations. This attempt is achieved through the selection of case studies, as well as
examinations of a wide range of literature existing in the field. / Thesis (M.Dev.Studies)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, 2012.

Global visions, local voices : economic development and religious organizations in two indigenous communities in ArgentinaOcchipinti, Laurie. January 1999 (has links)
This thesis examines the process of economic and human development in two indigenous communities in northern Argentina. It specifically considers the role of small Catholic non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in these communities. With the idea that the process of economic and human development is never a politically neutral, technological procedure, but a process of social change, it discusses the role of discourse. The thesis considers the factors that influence how these small NGOs view themselves and their role in the community and choose what projects to initiate. It finds that these NGOs employ a specifically religious idiom of development that sets them apart from other kinds of development organizations in the ways in which they define their mission and in the types of projects they are willing to consider. Based on the author's field research in Kolla and Wichi communities, the study also considers local response to the NGOs and how local people view "development" for themselves and their communities. / In order to explore these issues, the process of land claims in each community is considered in depth. Land ownership is seen by the NGOs and the communities themselves as a critical component of locally-empowered development. The ways in which these indigenous communities understand their relationship to the land which they occupy is explored. This relationship tends to be accentuated in land claims cases.

Between co-operation and confrontation: the Government-NGO relationship in Japan’s Official Development AssistanceMashiko, Moe 20 December 2012 (has links)
This thesis examines the relationship between the Japanese government and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) involved in Official Development Assistance (ODA). Japanese NGOs are too easily co-opted into the mechanisms of state power, sometimes putting at risk the very objectives that ODA is meant to embody. Against this prevailing trend; however, some NGOs have rallied to resist and transform undemocratic ODA policies and practices, and challenge Japan’s traditional bureaucratic politics. Gramsci’s theory of state and civil society, which treats civil society as a field of contention between hegemony and counter-hegemony, provides a useful frame of reference to understand the contradictory role of Japanese NGOs. / Graduate
