Seit mehr als vier Jahren klassifiziert die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek ihre Bestände mit der Dewey-Dezimalklassifikation. In dieser Zeit haben sich vielfältige Veränderungen ergeben, sowohl bezüglich der Inhalte der Klassifikation als auch hinsichtlich ihrer Verbreitung und den mit ihr verbundenen Anwendungsszenarien. Zudem ist bis Anfang 2011 die Publikation der DDC 23 zu erwarten. Vor diesem Hintergrund soll in diesem Vortrag erläutert werden, wie sich die Aktualisierung der DDC konkret vollzieht, d. h. wie die Überarbeitung einzelner Teile konkret umgesetzt wird und welche Tendenzen bei diesem Prozess erkennbar werden. Außerdem soll über die derzeit laufenden DDC-Übersetzungsprojekte, geplante technische Innovationen (neues WebDewey) und neue Anwendungsbezüge (Linked Data) informiert werden.

WORK PROGRAMME FOR THE PAINTING INTERNSHIP 1982,UNDERTAKEN IN THE CONSERVATION UNIT OF THE NATIONAL LIBRARY, CANBERRA The program included five major areas: 1. Treatment projects 2. Conservative management 3. Storage projects 4. General assistance with conservation projects 5. Visits to other institutions, meetings and conferences. 1. TREATMENT PROJECTS Four paintings in category 1, requiring urgent conservation treatment. The paintings are part of the National Library's Historical Collection, and reflect differing historical and aesthetic significance. Technically, the major conservation problems present in these four paintings represent conditions often found in aged, neglected and previously restored works of art. The diversity of treatment procedures required presented an ideal opportunity for study assessment and practical application of contemporary conservation methods. 2. CONSERVATION MANAGEMENT 18 miniatures on ivory, held as components of various collections within the National Library. A complete survey of the condition of all the miniatures was undertaken. Treatment proposals were compiled, proposed and completed. Detailed reports on all aspects of the conservation work undertaken on both the paintings and the miniatures is 1 presented with this dissertation. 3. STORAGE PROJECTS This work centred on the stabilisation of over twenty paintings, involving reframing techniques, the making of new stretchers, and correct storage within the Library compactors. Supervision of the display and hanging of exhibitions was also undertaken, along with packaging of material for external exhibitions. 4. GENERAL ASSISTANCE WITH CONSERVATION PROJECTS This work involved many aspects, from photography, object survey, consultation with visitors, general laboratory maintenance, ordering and I.C.C.M. Bulletin production. During the interim period between painting Conservator appointments, I was able to maintain the ongoing programme, treating several category 1 works. 5. VISITS TO OTHER INSTITUTIONS, MEETINGS AND CONFERENCES During the internship, I visited and later worked for, four months in the Fine Art Conservation Laboratory, of the Australian War Museum, where I have been appointed as Assistant Conservator. Visits to other institutions have included the National Gallery Conservation units, the National Archives in Mitchell, and the Gallery of N.S.W., Sydney. Meetings attended have included I.C.C.M. functions, the Museums of Australia Association meetings (I am a member of that organisation), and the October 1982 Museums Association 2 Conference held in the National Library, Canberra. I intend visiting Conservation Laboratories in South Africa during my coming visit in December 1982.

Since the 1960's, the number of publications has increased at a phenomenal rate, and the introduction of the computer has resulted in greatly expanded technological advances in information processing and information access. The information delivery component of health sciences libraries has been transformed; and concomitantly, their interorganizational relations have been altered. This research investigates the impact of a federally mandated information program. The Medical Library Assistance Act was passed in 1965 to support the escalating information needs of health professionals. Also, a computerized access system for biomedical literature was introduced by the National Library of Medicine. This study focuses on health sciences libraries in the Pacific Northwest, primarily Oregon and Washington, from 1965 to 1985 to determine how the Act impacted them. Of the various theories in interorganizational relations, Raelin's legal-political model provides the most cogent framework. One of his two types of mandated networks results from society-at-large placing its will on a group of organizations through the enactment of a law. As a decision maker with a mandate, the National Library of Medicine has changed the relationships of health sciences libraries through a hierarchical network, the Regional Medical Library Program. This analysis is a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods and personal observation. Data were collected to determine the number of interlibrary loan transactions routed through the Regional Medical Library at the University of Washington and consortium grants from the National Library of Medicine. A survey of health sciences librarians in the Pacific Northwest was conducted to find out to which organizations they belonged, their familiarity with the Medical Library Assistance Act, and their first use of MEDLINE. The results show that interorganizational relations among health sciences libraries in the Pacific Northwest increased after passage of the Medical Library Assistance Act of 1965. The confluence of the establishment of the Regional Medical Library network with the development of a computerized database, MEDLINE, made this component of the Medical Library Assistance Act a resounding success. Information technology also changed a hierarchical structure to a more lateral one, whereby health sciences librarians at all levels perform their own on-line database searching.

The aim of this thesis is to introduce the The National Archival Collection of the Czech Republic (CR NKF). The library collection is absolutely unique in its main objective that is to collect all Czech and foreign bohemical printed and non-printed documents, including journals since 1901. This thesis aims to introduce this collection both in a historical and current context, especially via library line or through ongoing projects in cooperation with the CR NKF. In the end, the work exaplains long-term protection and preservation of modern library collections in foreign countries and compares it with the situation in the NKF in the Czech Republic.

This thesis is a case study of the Swedish American Bibliography (SWAM), a special subject database in the Swedish Royal Library’s library information system, LIBRIS. The research intentions are to explore and define the bibliography, and, by resolving issues concerning the responsibility for the bibliography, to fulfill the broader intention of clearing the way for its continuation. During the academic year 2006/2007 the qualitative methods of literature analysis, website analysis, email interviews and correspondence were used for investigating the bibliography. Results of research question one showed the SWAM bibliography’s beginnings and its basis in Swedish cultural heritage. Results of research question two showed the bibliography’s relationship to the Royal Library’s duties and instructions. Results of research question three showed the organization of knowledge in the bibliography’s scope, its digital structure and its accessibility. Results of research question four compared the bibliography to similar Nordic bibliographies. Results of research question five covered the Swedish and North American institutions collaborating on the project to keep the bibliography going and addressed the project member institution representatives’ ideas for the bibliography’s future. In addition to the bibliography material’s significance for Swedish cultural heritage, the conclusions revolved around the need for a combination of open communication channels among the member institutions, a sound financial base of operations and strong leadership and around the Royal Library’s ultimate head responsibility for the SWAM bibliography’s continuation. / Uppsatsnivå: D
