Product Displacement : - En studie om dess effekter

Huskanovic, Sanela, Kaneld, Rasmus, Pietralska, Paulina January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to discuss the impact that product displacement has on the receiver from a marketing communication perspective. This thesis is built upon that the companies themselves make use of this possible marketing strategy. This study is based on a qualitative method with an inductive approach. The main choice of methods has its origins in the lack of product displacements theory since it is a new concept from a marketing communication perspective. The survey is based on twenty interviews with recipients of the phenomenon and two respondents with professional ties. This thesis deals only with the effects off the product displacement phenomenon on the receiver, as in our case, is limited to students with 20-25 years of age.

Minority Rights and Majority Interests: an Analysis of Development-Induced Displacement in the Narmada Valley, India

Buelles, Anni-Claudine 25 January 2012 (has links)
This thesis analyzes how the interests of minority and majority groups in state-led development practices can be bridged, with the Indian tribals affected by the Sardar Sarovar Dam Project (SSP) serving as a context for my analysis. The SSP threatens the livelihoods of approximately 100,000 people with displacement, who are primarily comprised of Indian tribal minorities. The construction of the SSP makes tribals more vulnerable to the risks associated with development-induced displacement, such as landlessness, joblessness, homelessness, marginalization, and food insecurity. When analyzing the SSP, a lack of adequate compensation, resettlement, and legal protection for the tribals becomes apparent. This has led to discussions of human rights violations among the national and international community, raising concerns regarding the protection of minority groups affected by state-led development. Attention is placed on what it means to be a citizen of a country in terms of legal representation and state protection, and how the under-representation of societal groups can lead to the creation of second-class citizens. The objective is to go beyond current discussions of human rights neglect in the context of the SSP by analyzing the position of minority rights in state-led development practices.

Examining the dynamic cascading of international norms through cluster genealogies : 1998 UN Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement and other cases

Sumita, Benita January 2016 (has links)
In 1998 the UN Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement were developed following years of crises faced by the millions of people experiencing forced displacement, especially those internally displaced. These Principles were widely considered to be precedent setting, both historically and normatively. However, the examination of the construction of the international norms that underpin the Principles indicates that there are important epistemological weaknesses in widely used constructivist frameworks that understand normative shifts in international relations. They are critiqued as being impedingly linear, temporally compressed and analytically obstructive in its agent-centric view of norm cascading. This research aims to address some of these gaps with an enhanced life-cycle model using cluster genealogies and the processes of replication and particularization. The reformulated framework is tested for robustness and feasibility using two preliminary cases – UNSC Resolution 1325 and the Chemical Weapons Convention. It is then used to conduct an in-depth original analysis of the development of the 1998 UN Guiding Principles. The findings in the case of the Guiding Principles show, for example, that though the acceptance of the IDP definition was a big leap, the replication and particularization of human rights limits the humanitarian scope of the Guiding Principles, and also brings into question existing humanitarian protection of IDPs under the Geneva Conventions. Meanwhile, rooting them in ‘sovereignty as responsibility’ has not shifted the community of states’ intersubjective take on sovereignty, but it has added to the existing normative tension – individual vs. state – that underpins the very understanding of sovereignty.

Review of Displacement Mapping Techniques and Optimization / Granskning av Displacement Mapping Tekniker och Optimering

Lundgren, Mikael, Hrkalovic, Ermin January 2012 (has links)
This paper explores different bump mapping techniques and their implementation. Bump mapping is a technique that is used in computer games to make simple 3D objects look more detailed than what they really are. The technique involves using a texture to change the objects normals to simulate bumps and is used to avoid rendering high polygonal objects. Over the years some different techniques have been developed based on bump mapping, these are normal mapping, relief mapping, parallax occlusion mapping, quadtree displacement mapping and so on. The first part of this paper we go through our goals and our research methodology. We then write about four different techniques and describe how they work. We also go through how they are implemented. After that we start our experiments and measure the different techniques against each other. When the first testing has been done, we start to optimize the techniques and run a second test to see how much faster, if it is faster, the optimization is compared to the previous tests. When the tests are done, we present our test data and analyse them. Finally we discuss the techniques and the testing. Then we finish up with a conclusion. / Mikaels telefon: 072-181 77 29 Ermins telefon: 076-178 97 59

Boundaries of displacement : Belonging and Return among Forcibly Displaced Young Georgians from Abkhazia

Lundgren, Minna January 2016 (has links)
This dissertation explores the implications of borders and boundaries for how forcibly displaced young Georgians from Abkhazia understand issues of belonging and return. My theoretical framework draws from theories on home and belonging as well as theories on border and boundary making, and locates them in geographies of uncertainty – or riskscapes – areas characterized by conflict and/or inequality. Empirical data was collected through two sets of interviews in Zugdidi near the border to Abkhazia and a questionnaire survey in Zugdidi and the capital Tbilisi. These data have been analysed through both qualitative and quantitative methods. The young respondents providing material for this research do not constitute a homogenous group. Some of the respondents have family still living in Abkhazia or even partly grew up in the area; others have never been there. The primary goal of the Georgian government has been that the displaced population should return to their homes, and the government’s efforts for local integration has long been insufficient. Since no peace accords have been signed, a lack of security prevents a large-scale return. Notwithstanding increased border controls that have made it difficult to visit former homes, some young people still cross the de facto border. By doing this they contest both the Abkhazian de facto authorities and the border as a symbol of separation and differentiation, while claiming a right to belong in Abkhazia. Property and social relations in Abkhazia contribute to stronger connections and an imperative to return. On the other hand, experience of hardship in contemporary Abkhazia has resulted in some young people not considering return as a viable option. Youth who never visited Abkhazia depend mainly on other peoples’ memories and political discourse to create emotional bonds to the area their parents fled and to form their ideas of return. Results from the quantitative survey indicate that youth living in Tbilisi, closer to the political centre, to a higher extent intend to return than their peers in Zugdidi. Meanwhile young people’s experiences of everyday life in current dwellings in relative stability create emotional bonds to their present place of living. These experiences challenge both collective processes and experiences from Abkhazia when it comes to maintaining the desire to return. This research offers insights into the human consequences of war and conflict. More specifically, this dissertation sheds light on how young internally displaced persons (IDPs) are living in a borderland (in both temporal and spatial terms) characterized by uncertainty-- between the past and the future as well as between Georgia and Abkhazia. Practices of exclusion and segregation are constitutive of the borders and boundaries that permeate life experiences of the forcibly displaced youth. Furthermore, these borders and boundaries are situated in riskscapes of disputed belongings, which makes this borderland more or less stable for different groups of IDPs. This dissertation contributes to an increased understanding of how political aspirations and personal desire to return preserves instability and uncertainty as long as return is not possible.

At the time of the doctoral defence the following papers were unpublished: paper 3 submitted.

A Novel Generalized Analytical Framework to Diagnose True Radial and Axial Displacements in an Actual Transformer Winding

Mukherjee, Pritam January 2016 (has links) (PDF)
Frequency response analysis (FRA) has emerged as the de-facto industry standard condition-monitoring tool to assess mechanical integrity of transformer windings during its service life. It the prerequisite detection sensitivity and customized portable commercial instruments are also available. Considering its importance and taking cognizance of its hidden potential, international bodies, viz., IEEE, IEC, and CIGRE have published standards/guides on its use and interpretation. In spite of all the progress witnessed over the past two decades, FRA has still not attained the status of a diagnostics tool. Probing the vast literature and research carried out in this points to the fact that lack of a rigorous mathematical basis to explain the underlying complex processes is, perhaps, one of the main reasons for the present predicament of FRA method. How-ever, it must be acknowledged that domain-knowledge is di cult to generalize in this. Having said that, the diagnostic part, which involves, the task of working back-wards starting from the FRA data to interpret a winding damage, locate it, and assess its severity, has so far remained teasingly elusive. As a consequence, FRA continues to remain as a sensitive condition-monitoring tool. Given its inherent potential, this situation seems to be a paradox, and so, calls for investigations. Once a mechanical damage has been detected by FRA, the next task is to locate its position and estimate its severity. An engineer expects FRA to provide these answers, so that corrective action, if needed, can be determined and initiated. In this context, even though FRA has attained global acceptance as a monitoring tool, it has failed as a diagnostic tool. Therefore, e orts that aim to address this issue are desirable. Driven by this motivation, the author's thesis proposes to explore a new school of thought in this direction, viz., to theoretically analyze the problem of localization of an incipient/minor mechanical damage (displacement in particular) and also assess its severity. Such an investigation seems to have not been undertaken previously. So, the goal is to establish a relationship to capture the complex interactions that exist between specific winding damages, winding parameters, and their overall in hence on the natural frequency deviations observable in the FRA data. Hence, exploring this possibility, subject to the constraint that the proposed method shall use inputs that are measurable at the terminals, becomes the primary objective of this research. In this thesis, a generalized analytical framework for handling winding displacements and FRA data has been successfully formulated. The formulation provides a general platform for localization and severity assessment of true radial and axial winding dis-placements occurring in an actual winding. An analytical solution becomes possible mainly due to manipulation of the system matrix, i.e., to consider the harmonic sum of squares of natural frequencies, instead of just the natural frequencies. This manipulation leads to an elegant closed-form expression that connects the displacement location and its severity, to changes in natural frequencies. For its implementation, short circuit natural frequencies and a few other terminal measurements are the only inputs that are necessary. This formulation is initially used in Chapter-3 to demonstrate localization of radial displacement in an isolated, actual, single, air-cored continuous-disk winding. Armed with this success, the supplicant proceeds further to show (in Chapter-4) how a minor manipulation of the formulation renders it suitable for localization of actual axial displacements as well. Extensive experimental verification was done and the results are encouraging. Accuracy of localization of radial/axial displacement is uniformly good for all positions, and so is the estimation of severity. Further details are presented in the thesis.

Minority Rights and Majority Interests: an Analysis of Development-Induced Displacement in the Narmada Valley, India

Měření velmi malých výchylek pomocí optovláknového interferometru / Measurement of very small displacements with fiber-optic interferometer

Vybíral, Dominik January 2020 (has links)
This master's thesis is focused on optical methods of measurement of very small dynamic displacements. Principles of interfermeters with picometer resolution including Fabry-Pérot interferometer are discussed and an integration using this interferometer was designed. Parasitic influencers of Fabry-Pérot interferometer were described as well as signal processing methods for interferometer's output signal. An interferometric meter for measurement of dynamic displacement was designed with frequency range of several kHz. These parameters are achieved under condition of photonic crystal layer placed on measured sample.

Gaudry, William 18 December 2015 (has links)
However, linking variation in space use by animals in different populations facing contrasted environmental conditions to site-specific conditions has not yet been investigated, which currently limits our understanding of the mechanisms involved in habitat selection. Using data collected on roe deer equiped with VHF and GPS collars in four different sites with contrasted environmental conditions, we aimed to fill this knowledge gap by relating variations in space use by animals in variable environmental conditions. We found that roe deer in Alpine environment adapt the magnitude of their movements to the spatial and temporal variation in resource availability, but also to the amount of snow cover. Contrary to previous studies on roe deer performed in mountain ranges, we showed that roe deer movements in the northern French Alps corresponds to the usage of various habitat components within the home range (third order habitat selection process; 48 cases; 89%) rather than as partial migration because very few (6 cases; 11%) roe deer stabilized their activity in distinct home ranges across seasons. Moreover, we found that roe deer markedly differed in habitat selection within their home range, both within and among populations. Roe deer facing poor environmental conditions with spatially segregated resources should trade one resource for another one, which generates a functional response in habitat selection. At the opposite, roe deer benefiting from rich environmental conditions in their home range do not have to trade one resource for another one and therefore did not display any functional response. In addition, our results suggest that a same habitat composition can lead to widely different space use patterns. These findings demonstrate that the way a given habitat type is used in relation to its availability strongly varies in response to environmental conditions, so that accounting for variation in environmental conditions is required to provide a reliable assessment of the mechanisms involved to shape the diversity of space use patterns we currently observed in ungulates. Finally, we looked for linking observed variation in space use patterns to indivudual fitness of female roe deer in the populations of Chizé and Trois-Fontaines for which the required data were available. However, we did not find any evidence of a positive effect of the intensity of habitat selection on individual female fitness

Entrepreneurship Post Displacement:Exploring Knowledge Spillovers and Idea Generationas a Result of Business Closure

Källner, Emelie January 2016 (has links)
Empirical findings on knowledge transfers associated with business closures are limited (Hoetkerand Agarwal, 2007), and very few studies examine the search process of individuals and theirsearch for new solutions and ideas (Maggitti et al., 2013). The purpose of this paper is to fill theknowledge gap of knowledge spillovers and idea generation taking place while displacedemployees transition to entrepreneurship after business closure. This paper will examineAstraZeneca’s displaced employees that started their own businesses after AstraZeneca’sresearch and development facilities closed down in Lund (2010) and Södertälje (2012) inSweden. The research questions investigated were: What are the different factors and ideaprocesses that made the displaced employees start their own businesses? To what extent are theentrepreneurs utilizing their knowledge and experience gained at AstraZeneca in their currentbusinesses, and are they using contacts gained while working for AstraZeneca? To answer thesequestions both qualitative and quantitative research method were used in the form of surveys andinterviews. The results of this study showed that a knowledge spillover took place between thenew firms and the closing firm, while previous experience and expertise gained fromAstraZeneca greatly influenced the idea generation that took place amongst the displacedemployees while transitioning into entrepreneurship. Moreover, about 20% of theentrepreneurship was necessity based, whereas 70% were opportunity based. In regards to thetiming of the idea generation process, half of the participants came up with the business ideaafter learning about the closure, while the rest disagreed. Therefore, the idea generation processamongst the participants did not necessary start after the announcement of the displacement.
