The maritime dispute between Türkiye and Greece and its impact on government policy.

Ljung, Karl Jakob January 2024 (has links)
This paper sought to analyse which underlying motives impacted the stances and policies taken by Greece and Türkiye regarding their disputed maritime border. The maritime border consists of two distinct areas, the Aegean Sea, and the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. The analysis chose to study the two areas separately since there are differences between them. The study was conducted through the lens of Morgan and Palmer’s general theory of foreign policy, in which a state either acts reactively to preserve the current situation, or proactively to try and change it. The result of the study shows that both states acted because of security related, economic, and hegemonic motivations as well as to protect their sovereignty and national rights. Security concerns played a significant role in the dispute, as both states deemed the other to be a threat. Because of this, both Greece and Türkiyeacted reactively against each other. At the same time, Türkiye was also found to be more likely to act proactively compared to Greece who often either acted in response to Türkiye or indirectly through its allies such as the EU or Egypt.

Factors altering HIV and Aids postnatal clients' commitment to exclusive breastfeeding

Madisha, Mpho Christa Judith 11 1900 (has links)
The study sought to explore and describe the breastfeeding practices of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) positive postnatal clients’ non-commitment to exclusive breastfeeding in George Mukhari Hospital, South Africa. A non-experimental quantitative design was used. Inferences drawn from the study were that HIV positive clients that opted for exclusive breastfeeding did not commit for fear of transmission of HIV to the baby and exclusive breastfeeding was stopped before the recommended 6 months. Most of the respondents’ partners did not come for counselling. There was lack of emotional support by staff after testing. Health education and emotional support of HIV positive clients has to be intensified. / Health Studies / M. A. (Health Studies)

The relationship between infant feeding practices and diarrhoeal infections

Ziyani, Isabella Simoyi 11 1900 (has links)
To determine the relationship between infant-feeding practices and diarrhoeal infections, a descriptive survey was conducted to infants between six to 12 months of age. A guided interview was conducted to 105 mothers of infants who attended the health facilities of Mbabane, Swaziland. The results show that breast-feeding is routinely practiced by the majority of mothers and exclusive breast-feeding is very low, but supplementary feed in the form of formula or solids are introduced by the majority of respondents within the first three months of life. Infants who were given colostrum and breast milk had fewer diarrhoeal attacks. Other factors, for example education and cultural factors influenced the feeding practices and number of diarrhoeal attacks. It is recommended that breast-feeding should be promoted as an important intervention in the control of diarrhoea / Health Studies / M.A. (Nursing Science)

Konstruování sociální identity u čtenářek exkluzivních ženských časopisů / Social Identity Construction of Exclusive Women's Magazines Readers

Horová, Alena January 2013 (has links)
This thesis examines how exclusive women's magazines readers approach the category of luxury, their relationship with products announced in these magazines and whether the feeling of luxury, aroused by such magazines, is affiliated with a certain social class. This thesis also focuses on question whether these readers regard physisal atractiveness as a sign of social status. The theoretical part of this thesis describes several concepts which are important in the context of media studies: social constructivism, the process of understanding media effects, the conception of uses and gratification and the role of mass media in the socialization process. This part further elaborates on exclusive women's magazines, conceptions of lifestyle, luxury, fashion and its importance for identity construction. The methodological part introduces the methodology of the analysis and the analysis itself. The sample used for this analysis was composed of ten respondents which were subjected to an in-depth interview. Each interview also included reception analysis. The following chapters describe the results of this analysis.

Sûretés conventionnelles sur créances en droit français, anglais et vietnamien / Consensual security over receivables in french, english and vietnamese law

Bui, Duc Giang 02 June 2014 (has links)
Receivables constitute an excellent source of credit and security over receivables is available under French, English and Vietnamese law. However, if they have been recognised in English law for a long period of time, their development is quite recent in French and Vietnamese law. Moreover, although these three legal systems recognise all traditional security interests which are not based on the transfer of ownership over secur ed receivables (nantissement de créances in French law, floating and fixed charge over book debts in English law and hypothecation over debt claims in Vietnamese law), the fact that French law only recognises fiducia over receivables and assignment of trade receivables by way of security and Vietnamese judges have rejected the transfer ofownership by means of security, demonstrates that the use of functionality of ownership over receivables has not become widespread in France and in Vietnam. In contrast, in England, mortgages over receivables allow for the transfer of ownership as security, whether by way of an assignment or a novation. Finally, the hypothecation over debt claims of Vietnamese law and the fixed charge over book debts of English law show that security that does not entail the transfer of ownership can be perfectly efficient inside and outside insolvency proceedings. These approaches reveal the interests of a doctoral enterprise put in perspective from numerous economic investments and financing structures involving, in a rising fashion, economic stakeholders and international bank partners whose interests, stakes and strategies fall under (by construction, or necessity) the aforementioned jurisdictions

Réactions dures exclusives au twist sous-dominant / Hard exclusive processes beyond the leading twist

Besse, Adrien 02 July 2013 (has links)
This thesis deals with the computation of the helicity amplitudes of the exclusive diffractive rho meson leptoproduction in the perturbative Regge limit beyond the leading twist. The understanding of such exclusive processes in terms of the elementary constituents of QCD is a serious challenge to understand the hadronic structure. We present two new phenomenological models based on the kT-factorization of the helicity amplitudes in a γ*(λ) → ρ(λ') impact factor, where λ and λ' denote the polarizations of the virtual photon and the rho meson, and the nucleon target impact factor. The γ*(λ) → ρ(λ') impact factors are then computed using the collinear factorization of the rho meson soft part. The first model relies on the combination of the results respectively up to twist 2 and twist 3 for the impact factors where both polarizations are longitudinal or transverse, with a model for the nucleon impact factor and a model for the distribution amplitudes of the rho meson. In the second approach presented in this thesis, we derive these impact factors in impact parameter space and show that the color dipole scattering amplitude with the nucleon factorizes, allowing to use our results in combination with dipole cross-section models. We get a very good agreement with the data from H1 and ZEUS collaborations for virtualities higher than a few GeV. We discuss our results and compare them to other models.

Mézin-Bourgninaud, Véronique 04 June 2016 (has links)
The executive staff of colonial governors under royal period comprises governors-general and individuals who rule the French colonies from 1763 to 1792 by appointment of the crown. The governor is a man of war, appointed by the King on the advice of the Navy Minister. It is for him to defend an Empire, to control local customs and to enforce royal laws. The importance of the position and the range of power that comes with it depend on local circumstances, not to mention the personality and the scale of the holder, his social ranking, and the combining of functions he can benefit from. If being the ruler of the colony, being part of the administrative elite and representing the King suggest both a prestigious and exotic job, reality is less rosy. The governor's authority has to face numerous obstacles, which results in the weakening of the effective ruling of the country. The governor tries to assert power over other distinctive markers, however the office remains unenviable, as it implies squalor and constant travel and is plagued by distrust of local elites or other metropolitan administrators. The financial perks and the promise of a more prestigious position after serving as Colonial governor are increasingly unrealistic as the French Revolution approaches. The office of Colonial governor, one of several steps in a colonial career, is actually isolated from the power and influence which rule the court, atypical in its appointment and provides very few career opportunities.

Uma nova abordagem para identificação da provável origem de genes exclusivos de bactérias / A new approach to identify the probable origin of bacteria exclusive genes

Wagner, Priscilla Koch 26 March 2018 (has links)
Phylogenetic analysis, in its turn, seeks to analyze the evolutionary relation of each species, considering its genetic characteristics. These processes and the techniques that implement them are based on nucleotide sequences sequenced and stores in databases of public genomes. With phylogenetic analysis it is also possible to identify possible origins of a gene. This task has a great importance, because it allows the identification of the origin of pathogenic genes, which may help to combat or prevent deseases. A potencial problem of these sequences is the possibility of having annotation errors (sequences marking as genes). These errors are little explored by researchers nowadays. Another unexplored topic is the phylogenetic analysis of exclusive genes, which are genes thaht manifest in only one species, considering a group of nearby species. The identification of exclusive genes of a species may serve to correctly identify, for example, a desease, in order to allow the use of a more especific and appropriate treatment. The importance of discovering phylogenies of exclusive genes and the difficulty of guaranteeing the consistency of genetic annotations motivated this work, whose objective was to implement tools to interpret data of genetic comparison, identifying annotation errors in exclusive genes and creating strategies to identify the origin of these genes. The origins of exclusive genes explored in this work involve the possibility of the exclusive genes have derived of other gene families of the organism itself, or, the exclusive genes differed a lot from the ancestral genes. Theses hypotheses, with the hypotesis of the existance of annotation errors, were explored in experiments using the developed tools. The experiments aimed to analyse the applicability of the developed strategy. Genomes of bacteria of the genus Xanthomonas were used, which contains a large group of bacteria that cause diseases in plants. The results show that there is a considerable amount of annotation errors on the genomes, proving the hypothesis that the inconsistency in genomic annotations has a great influence on the difficulty in identifying phylogenies (both exclusive and non-exclusive genes). The results also show that much of exclusive genes possibly originated from other gene families of the genome itself. Furthermore, these genes may have sufferedmodifications in relation to the ancestral genes, but still have certain similarities with nucleotide sequences that don\'t encode genes in other more distant species. Finally, the strategy developed proved useful on phylogenetic analysis of the studied bacteria, which is a strong indication that the same approach can be used for similar problems with other species of living beings

Mudança temporal do aleitamento materno exclusivo na América Latina e Caribe: atualização de seus determinantes e da tendência secular / Temporal change of exclusive breastfeeding in Latin America and the Caribbean: an update of its determinants and secular trend

Bersot, Vitor Fernandes 14 September 2011 (has links)
There are few studies that assess the tendency of the pattern of EBF between countries. Objective: To analyze the temporal change of the AME in five countries in Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) comparing data from 1990 and 2000 decades. Methods: The dissertation consists of a manuscript, which evaluated data from children aged 0 to 6 months in the samples of the Demographic Health Survey conducted research in Brazil, Colombia, Haiti, Peru and the Dominican Republic. Were estimated the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding and its weighted annual rates of change, according to country and survey year. The duration of EBF was estimated using survival analysis Kaplan-Meier method, considering the current age of the child as the survival time and EBF as binary variable, concerning the state of practice at the time of the interview. The survival curves were constructed for each country, in every decade, and the comparison between them used the log-rank test. The median duration of breastfeeding was calculated for each independent variable and the relationship between these variables and weaning at six months was analyzed using Cox regression model. Results: The prevalence of EBF increased in four of the five countries studied, increasing the most remarkable years in Colombia (II per cent ) and Haiti (17 per cent ). The median duration of evolution showed two trends: growth with equity in Colombia and Haiti, and stagnation with unequal distribution among the population subgroups of the last decade in Brazil, Peru and the Dominican Republic. In the multiple model of regression variables and the demographic profile of use of health services were associated with duration of EBF. The residence in a rural area was the variable consistently associated negatively in Brazil (HR = 1.68, CI 95 per cent : 1,06-2,67) and Colombia (HR = 1.39, CI 95 per cent : 1,03-1,87), while positively in Peru (HR = 0.40, CI 95 per cent : 0,19-0,83). Conclusion: The balance of the trend of EBF in LAC is positive, though not uniform throughout the two decades analyzed. The findings suggest the need for interventions for the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding taking into account the geographical location of families and provided quality health services
