O trabalho visa a comparar duas obras escritas no mesmo período pensando nas diferentes posições adotadas pelos escritores em suas narrativas na tentativa de passar para o leitor suas impressões e reflexões sobre o mundo em que vivem. As duas obras, Angústia, de Graciliano Ramos, e O amanuense Belmiro, de Cyro dos Anjos, foram escritas em meados dos anos 30 e retratam a vida de funcionários públicos que moram em espaços urbanos; são intelectuais citadinos que vivem em uma mesma época, mas que reagem à vida de maneira muito diversa. Com essa comparação, espera-se encontrar os pontos divergentes (pois as obras podem ser consideradas antagônicas no que diz respeito à maneira de narrar), mas, sobretudo, os pontos convergentes, levando-se em consideração as problemáticas vividas em um determinado espaço (meio urbano pouco industrializado - próprio de centros urbanos de menor importância econômica) e tempo (a tumultuada e importante década de 30) por intermédio da figura do funcionário público, central nas duas obras / This work aims to compare two narrative books written in the same period and ponder over the different positions taken by the authors to reconstruct what was happening around them. The two works, Graciliano Ramos\' Angústia and Cyro dos Anjos\' O amanuense Belmiro were published in the mid-30\'s and depict the ways of life of two public officers who live in the city. Both of them are urban intellectuals living in the same time but reacting to life differently. This comparison expects to find out different ways to narrate mainly the same problems in similar spaces (semi-urban cities) and time (the complicated and important mid-30\'s in Brazil) through the configuration of a similar character in both works: the public official. Very common within the literature of that period, it is important to analyze this character from two points of view: its origin and its outcome. This work aims to analyze some of the relevants social aspects which inform the structure of the two books, especially unveiling the character of the public official based on a model announced by Mário de Andrade - the \"loser\" -, which shows the different ways to react to this failure, proving that maybe the two works are not as different as they seem

Sua tem?tica aborda a rela??o do homem com a vida; o presente e o passado; o amor e as frustra??es e o her?i em busca de si. Belmiro Borba, narrador-personagem, ? um homem sentimental e tolhido pelo excesso de vida interior, que resolve escrever um livro e assim registrar no papel suas hist?rias, lembran?as, sentimentos, medita??es e ilus?es. Nessa perspectiva, esta pesquisa visa trazer ? tona quest?es relacionadas ? est?tica da melancolia, principalmente, sua rela??o com o processo criativo; existente na escritura belmiriana em seu fazer liter?rio. Ao longo de nossa abordagem, recorreremos aos estudos realizados por Arist?teles (1998), Lambotte (2000), Benjamin (2011) e Kristeva (1989) para articular pontos pertinentes ? melancolia; Halbwachs (2006) quanto ao conceito de mem?ria, entre outros te?ricos que foram imprescind?veis para a finaliza??o deste estudo. / This master?s thesis presents an analytical reading of Cyro dos Anjos (1906-1994)?s novel O amanuense Belmiro (1937) and its main objective is to analyze the way some aspects of melancholy, together with the notion of memory, diary writing as well as time permeate all the narrative of this unique book in the Brazilian literary scenario. Anjos? novel is an atypical work in the fiction of the 1930s as it is considered a dissonant voice compared to the regional and social productions of the time it was published. Among other themes, the book depicts the relationship of man with life; the present and the past; love and frustrations and the hero in search of itself. Belmiro Borba, character-narrator, is a sentimental man, often handicapped by his inner life. For this matter, Borba decides to write a book in order to register his stories, memories, feelings, meditations and illusions. From this perspective, this research aims to deal with issues related to the aesthetics of melancholy, especially its relationship with the creative process, which belongs to Borba?s attempt to write literature. Throughout our academic research, we used the work of Aristotle (1998), Lambotte (2000), Benjamin (2011) and Kristeva (1989) to articulate relevant issues of melancholy; Halbwachs (2006) on the concept of memory, among other theorists who were essential to the completion of this study.

This dissertation objective is to make an analysis of how the genre diary is used in the Cyro dos Anjos’ novels: O amanuense Belmiro, Abdias and Montanha. Having such a priority we will seek to understand how this genre, for being fragmented and libertarian, enables a favorable environment for the exhibition of the personhood of the narrators. In this perspective, we will analyze the novels under the concept of diary, highlighting the peculiarities of this genre and analyzing how this structure contributes for the works in research. Therefore, we will use the theory of Philippe Lejeune (2008) about the diaristic format, as well as we will search for subsidies in the critical fortune of the literary works. Above all, we will rely on the readings of the novels, with the help of theories that have some connection with the proposed subject. Finally, we will show that the diary is the lyrical base of the three novels, as well as the connection point among them. / Esta dissertação tem como proposta fazer uma análise do modo como o gênero diário é utilizado nos romances de Cyro dos Anjos: O amanuense Belmiro, Abdias e Montanha. Tendo tal prioridade, buscaremos compreender como esse gênero, por ser fragmentado e libertário, possibilita um ambiente propício para a exposição da pessoalidade dos narradores. Nesta perspectiva, analisaremos os romances à luz do conceito de diário, ressaltando as peculiaridades desse gênero e analisando o modo como essa estrutura contribui para as obras em pesquisa. Para tanto, utilizaremos a teoria de Philippe Lejeune (2008) a respeito do formato diarístico, assim como procuraremos subsídio na fortuna crítica das obras. Sobretudo, nos basearemos nas leituras dos romances, com o auxílio de teorias que possuam alguma ligação com a temática proposta. Por fim, buscaremos mostrar que o diário é a base lírica dos três romances, assim como um ponto de encontro entre eles.

The dissertation discusses the work O amanuense Belmiro of Cyro dos Anjos, based on the critical reception, going through some readings and studies undertaken on the mining author and his literary production, to settle in the analysis of the novel's narrative. At this point, it looks like the character Belmiro Borba faces the evils of affection. In other words, how it reacts to evil that print you love, nostalgia, fear and loneliness. Each of these affects the mark with a different pattern of pain. However, our brave hero always reacts the same way; writing their pain on a daily intimate and solitary as a way of redemption. This analytical perspective about the emotions that affect the amanuensis takes us at the end of the dissertation, to reflect on ourselves and our relationship to life. / A dissertação aborda a obra O amanuense Belmiro, de Cyro dos Anjos, partindo da recepção crítica, passando por algumas leituras e estudos empreendidos sobre o autor mineiro e sua produção literária, até fixar-se na análise da narrativa do romance. Nesse ponto, examina-se como o personagem Belmiro Borba enfrenta os males dos afetos. Em outras palavras, como ele reage diante do mal que lhe imprimem o amor, a nostalgia, o medo e a solidão. Percebemos que cada um desses afetos o marca com uma estampa diferente de dor. No entanto, nosso bravo herói reage sempre da mesma maneira; escrevendo sua dor em um diário íntimo e solitário, como forma de redenção. Essa perspectiva de análise acerca dos afetos que acometem o amanuense nos leva, ao final da dissertação, a uma reflexão sobre nós mesmos e sobre nossa relação com a vida.
