Modest Musorgsky is considered a composer of masterful vocal, symphonic, and piano works. His songs and song cycles distinguish themselves as evocative of the broad spectrum of Russian experience. However, Musorgsky's early songs have not received as much attention as his larger works, such as Boris Godunov or Pictures at an Exhibition. Musorgsky's early songs, from 1857-1867, show the composer's affinity for lyrical expression, be it brightly melodious, impassioned, or within a comical or satirical vein. He portrays Russian life through a mixture of different genres such as the Russian romance, the ballad, the operatic aria, and also vaudeville. This study focuses on Musorgsky's choice of texts, his penning of several of them, and the way he incorporates them within each song.

The purpose of this thesis is to show that an indigenous, emotional, and poetic lyricism is found in the novels of Jose Maria Arguedas, which distinguishes and separates Arguedas from the Hispanic indigenous classical writers.

L’étude de l’œuvre de Georges Mathieu, artiste controversé dont les activités s’étendent sur les décennies suivant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale, vise à éclairer un parcours méconnu afin de pouvoir l’intégrer de manière plus pertinente dans le champ de l’histoire de l’art contemporain. S’intéresser aux réseaux au sein desquels a gravité l’artiste permet de considérer globalement l’abstraction lyrique et de dessiner des relations complexes entre les différents acteurs des mondes de l’art. Les enjeux du contexte artistique des années 1950 sont ainsi mis en avant plus précisément, conduisant à l’identification de stratégies de promotion en partie basées sur les mythologies du geste créateur. Mathieu, élaborant son discours par anticipation de sa réception et se présentant comme une personnalité médiatique ambivalente, s’inscrit dans une dialectique inhérente de l’art à l’ère postmoderne : l’oscillation perpétuelle entre culture d’élite et culture de masse / The study of Georges Mathieu’s work, debated artist whose activities extend over the decades following the Second World War, aims at enlightening an unkown path to be able to integrate it in a more relevant way into the contemporary field of the art history. Be interested in the networks in which the artist gravitated allows to consider the lyrical abstraction overall and to draw complex connections between the various actors of the worlds of art. The stakes in the artistic context of the 1950s are so put forward more exactly, leading to the identification of strategies of promotion partially based on the mythologies of the creative gesture. Mathieu, developing his discourse by anticipation of his reception and appearing as an ambivalent media personality, fits into an inherent dialectic of the art in postmodern era : the constant swaying between culture of elite and mass culture

Cette thèse est consacrée à l’étude de l’œuvre et de la poétique de Francesco Biamonti (1928-2001). Elle propose un parcours critique qui montre les liens entre l’écriture de l’auteur, aussi bien dans ses thématiques que dans ses choix stylistiques, et l’expérience culturelle qui la sous-tend. Les romans biamontiens apparaissent comme une tentative d’exprimer sous forme artistique une vision personnelle du monde et de l’homme, que l’écrivain italien élabora en autodidacte pendant sa vie. Il s’agit d’une vision qui ne peut ne pas tenir compte de la réflexion sur le territoire du Ponant ligurien, représenté par Biamonti dans ses transformations du XXe siècle et dans son actualité. Ainsi, la juxtaposition des termes territoire et existence dans le titre suggère une première clef de lecture de cette étude.Cette thèse s’articule en trois grandes parties. Dans la première partie, l’étude de l’espace romanesque favorise l’analyse de la vision biamontienne de l’histoire méditerranéenne et européenne, et montre les mécanismes de transfiguration et les processus mythopoïétiques caractérisant la représentation du Ponant ligurien et de l’« ailleurs » français dans les romans. La deuxième partie porte sur l’analyse des personnages et propose une interprétation de la conception biamontienne de la réalité humaine sur la base des théories existentialistes et phénoménologiques. Enfin, la dernière partie explore l’idée de création artistique et souligne certaines caractéristiques de la prose biamontienne et de son lyrisme dans une perspective aussi bien textuelle que théorique. / The PhD Thesis is devoted to the study of the work and the poetics of Francesco Biamonti (1928-2001). It proposes a critical analysis showing the connections between the writing of the author, in both its themes and its stylistic choices, and its underlying cultural influences. Biamonti’s novels appear as an attempt to express his personal vision of the world and the human condition, which the Italian writer developed as autodidact all along his life. Framing this vision cannot ignore the considerations of the author about the Ligurian west territory, represented through its twentieth century transformations and its contemporary topics. Thus, the juxtaposition of the words territory and existence in the title suggests the first key to read this work by.The PhD Thesis is articulated in three main parts. The first part, through the study of the narrative space, analyses Biamonti’s reflections on the Mediterranean and European history; moreover, it contains the literary mechanisms and the mythopoietic processes characterizing the representation of the Ligurian territory and the French “Elsewhere” in the novels of the author. The second part is concerned with the study of the characters and, in light of a series of philosophical readings, it examines Biamonti’s conception of the human reality and existence. The third and final part explores the idea of artistic creation and highlights specific characteristics

The primary purpose of this study is to show that anticipations of the "art for art's sake" theory can be found in Tennyson's poetry which is in line with the tenets of aestheticism and symbolism, and to show that Tennyson's lyricism is a "Palace of Art" in which his tragic emotions-- sadness, sorrow, despair, and melancholic sensibility--were built into beauty.

O foco deste estudo é a investigação dos traços constitutivos do erotismo e suas modulações em Manuel Bandeira pelo viés temático-estilístico. Para isso, foram analisados poemas em que a nudez está alçada ao patamar contemplativo; em que a finitude da matéria e a transcendência espiritual confluem; em que sujeito e objeto se entregam sem moderação às atrações e ímpetos sexuais; em que se instaura a sublime compaixão e, por fim, poemas em que sagrado e libidinoso se complementam. O percurso das análises não privilegiou um livro do poeta em específico; para o estudo das variantes dos discursos eróticos em Bandeira foram selecionados poemas de maturidades díspares, representativos de uma personalidade literária plural como a do poeta. / The focus of this research project is to investigate the component features of eroticism and its nuances in Manuel Bandeira\'s work through a thematic-stylistic bias. Therefore, a diversity of poems were analysed, the ones in which nudity reaches its contemplative plateau; in which matter finiteness and spiritual transcendence converge; in which subject and object indulge without moderation in attractions and sexual impulse; in which ultimate compassion is introduced and, finally, poems in which sacred and libidinous are complementary. The analyses were not focused on one specific book by the poet; for the study of the variants of the erotic discourse in Bandeira, poems from divergent maturities, which are representative of a plural literary personality as the one from the poet.

Este estudo pretende discutir a constituição do ponto de vista narrativo em Lavoura arcaica, de Raduan Nassar. A partir do reconhecimento da dramatização ritual que rege o romance, descrita em parte pela crítica, busca-se investigar os modos de irrupção de uma fala exasperada. A situação narrativa em possessão, por meio da qual o registro lírico da prosa confina com a disposição encantatória à violência, domina a forma. Isso reitera de modo envolvente os paroxismos implicados na ideia da incitação absoluta à ordem. Essa demanda mitificante aparece articulada a contradições históricosociais. A obra apreende, em sua própria estrutura, a afirmação paradoxal da subjetividade sob o familismo árabe imigrado e certa dinâmica social própria ao Brasil pós-1964. Considerando o embate entre a construção estética e o processo histórico, o trabalho examina impasses que definem a linguagem ambivalente de Lavoura. Como se tentará mostrar, as oscilações extremas e as passagens agônicas caracterizam a fundo a matéria do autor, atravessada por uma lógica infensa à síntese. / This study intends to discuss the formation of the narrative point of view in Lavoura arcaica, of Raduan Nassar. From the recognition of the ritual dramatization that governs the novel, described in part by critics, one searchs to investigate the irruption of an exasperated speech. The narrative situation in possession, by means of which the lyrical prose confines with a fascinating disposition to violence, that dominates the form. This reiterates in involving way the paroxysms implied in the idea of the absolute incitation to the order. This mythical demand will appear articulated the historical social contradictions. The piece seizes, into its own structure, the paradoxical assertion of subjectivity under the Arabic immigrated familism, and a social dynamic typical to the post-1964 Brazil. Considering the clash between aesthetic construction and the historical process, the work examines dilemmas that define the ambivalent language of Lavoura. As it will be tried to show, the extreme oscillations and the agonizing passages describe the author\'s background, traversed by a hostile logic to the synthesis.

[pt] Este trabalho objetiva apresentar aspectos do pensamento estético de Mário de Andrade, um dos principais participantes do movimento modernista no Brasil, e sua contribuição para a cultura brasileira, ressaltando a importância de seu encontro com outros escritores, especialmente o poeta Manuel Bandeira. Mário de Andrade, para muitos, teria sido um artista preso a uma reverência às tradições populares, sem realizar uma ruptura estética de fato, não sendo, portanto, um vanguardista. Percorremos aqui esses descaminhos do ideal estético-social de Mário de Andrade, expondo seu compromisso com a brasilidade e suas contradições, sua religiosidade, nele vendo características de um artista-pensador. / [en] This dissertation aims to develop reflections on the ideas of Mário de Andrade, one of most important writers in Brazilian Modernism, trying to say what he thought and wrote about aesthetics and what is his contribuition for Brazilian Culture. We pointing out his important meetings with many Brazilian writers, especially Manuel Bandeira. For many people, Mario de Andrade was just an artist tied up at popular traditions and not a real vanguardist. We want to travel around the diferent ways of his ideas about aesthetics and social art, showing his commitment with Brazilian Culture and his contraditions, his religiosity, considering him a thinker artist.
