The relationship between career anchors and job satisfaction amongst employees within a leading retail organisation in the Western Cape

Fakir, Zaida January 2010 (has links)
Magister Commercii (Industrial Psychology) - MCom(IPS) / In the current recessionary cycle in which individuals finds themselves, it is interesting to see whether organisations and individuals have changed their strategies or whether they pursued their tried and tested inherent mechanisms of recruitment/work selection. In recessionary times, organisations would usually have a bigger pool to select from whilst employees, in turn, would try to position themselves in a stable work environment. From an organisational perspective, organisations have also undergone major transitions such as downsizing, merges and acquisitions, right sizing, restructuring, and reengineering. These changes have a direct impact on employees' level of motivation and job satisfaction (Ellison & Schreuder, 2000). The concept of a traditional career that an employee occupies for a lifetime performing one type of work in an organisation no longer exists. Instead, employees now work for more than one organisation in their lifetime. These changes entail that employees need to be flexible and adaptive in making career decisions (Schreuder & Coetzee, 2006). Career anchorscan be operationalized as a representation of self- perceived talents, motives, values and abilities that guide employees to make career decisions. Schreuder and Coetzee (2006), are of the opinion that if employees are not familiar with their career anchors, they could find themselves trapped in work environments that are not satisfactory and would continually be questioning themselves. Suutari and Taka (2004) emphasize the fact that there needs to be a fit between the careers of employees and the work environment. If there is no fit between the career anchors of employees and the work environment then employees are likely to become dissatisfied which may result in a high turnover of staff with a corresponding low productivity rate. This study investigates and explores the phenomenon of career anchors based on Schein's 1978 career anchor theory and how these career anchors affect employees level of job satisfaction. The Career Anchor Inventory and the Job Descriptive Index were administered to a sample of 154 employees at a leading retail organisation who completed the questionnaires. The results of this research study indicate that there are significant relationships between biographical factors and career anchors as well as between biographical factors and job satisfaction and similarly between typology of career anchors and dimensions of job satisfaction.

En kartläggning av upplevelser om sexuell hälsa hos individer med långvarig smärta : En scoping review / A mapping of experiences of sexual health in individuals with chronic pain : A scoping review

Kent, Hannah, Fransson, Jamina January 2020 (has links)

Poruchy limitující sběr náboje v semiizolačním CdZnTe / Defects limiting charge collection in semiinsulated CdZnTe

Zajac, Vít January 2011 (has links)
Title: Defects limiting charge collection in semiinsulated CdZnTe Author: Vít Zajac Department: Institute of Physics of Charles University Supervisor: doc. Ing. Jan Franc, DrSc., Institute of Physics of Charles University Abstract: We achieved to detect photoluminescence transitions deep in the band gap in 4 samples cut from 2 different crystals of semiinsulating Cd1-xZnxTe (x = 0,02 - 0,18) in a row of points along the growth axis. The spectral peaks give evidence of the presence of deep levels in the sample and the intensity of the photoluminescence peaks is to a certain extent proportional to the concentration of these levels. A comparison between resistivity and photoconductivity that were measured by a contact-less method showed that the change of photoluminescence intensity of deep levels does not bring about an unambigous change of neither resistivity nor photoconductivity. Correlation analysis of resistivity and photoconductivity of 6 samples from 4 different crystals confirmed the following model: A shift of the Fermi level within the band gap induced by a change of donor-acceptor compensation is accompanied by an unambigous change of resistivity and results in a change in occupation of the deep levels. This causes a change in the photoconductivity of the crystal because the occupation factor of...

Differentiation of Labor-Related Activity by Means of Musculoskeletal Markers

Doying, Annette 23 March 2010 (has links)
This study tests whether musculoskeletal markers are attributable to occupational categories. It is hypothesized that individuals over the age of 30 years with a lifetime occupation as a laborer will demonstrate a significantly different pattern of activity markers from individuals in the white collar classifications. A sample of n=69 from the Maxwell Museum's Documented Skeletal Collection are investigated. Upper and lower extremities were scored for MSM type (robusticity, stress lesions, and ossification exostoses) and severity (grades 0 - 3) following Hawkey and Merbs (1995) visual reference system. To evaluate methodological approaches to MSM scoring, ossification exostoses and stress lesions were also scored using the Mariotti et al. (2004) proposed methods. Upper limb muscle insertion sites on the humerus, radius, and ulna and lower limb insertion sites on the femur, fibula, patella, calcaneus, and tibia were studied. The Kruskal Wallis test was used to predict occupational class according to an individual's aggregate MSM z-score. The Mann-Whitney test was used for comparison of aggregate MSM z-scores between the two occupational categories and for comparison of aggregate MSM z-scores between males and females. The Spearman correlation was used for non-parametric correlation analysis of aggregate MSM z-scores and the occupational categories of white collar and labor. The data were analyzed using the statistical software program SPSS (version 17.0). Results of this study show that musculoskeletal markers cannot statistically predict, nor can they be used to distinguish between, occupational categories of white collar and labor. Comparison of MSM shows no significant difference in the overall patterns of enthesopathies between individuals who report an occupation of white collar or those who report an occupation of laborer as defined by the U.S. Office of Personnel. Comparison of MSM in this population shows no significant difference between males and females, regardless of occupational category, a finding which runs counter to many earlier studies. Using dichotomous data it is revealed that laborers develop MSM symmetrically, evidence of whole-body activity. Further, white collar MSM can be associated with sitting and elevating the arm. Laborer's MSM are associated with lifting, twisting, pushing, squatting, walking, running and standing. Recommendations on methodology are provided.

The importance of evaluating before selecting appropriate activities as interventions in psychiatry : A qualitative study conducted as a Minor Field Study at a psychiatric clinic in Vietnam. / Betydelsen av att utreda innan man väljer lämpliga aktiviteter som interventioner inom psykiatrin : En kvalitativ studie utförd som en mindre fältstudie vid en psykiatrisk klinik i Vietnam

Dagnäs, Maja, Fredriksson, Julia January 2020 (has links)
Aim: The purpose of this study is to describe the intervention process at a psychiatric clinic in Vietnam, from evaluation to goal setting, and how the staff choose occupation-based intervention for their patients. Method: This study is a qualitative study with inductive approach where the data collection is based on a semi-structured interview with the health care staff at a psychiatric clinic in Vietnam. The respondents consisted of a total of ten participants and were required by a purposive sample. Content analysis according to Kristensson (2014) was used to examine the data. Result: The findings from the result revealed that the clinic work without a standard procedure where the staff evaluates and assess their patient from their own experience. They also interview and observe the patients without an aim. The result also showed that the clinic offers different occupation-based interventions where the doctor decides occupation-training but not in consultation with the patient. It was revealed that the purpose of the occupation is to make the patients independent. The last finding was that the staff has a lack of individual goal setting and the general goal is for patients to get healthy. To see if the patients achieve improvement, observations are made without aim. Conclusion: The study concludes that the health care staff at the clinic has found their strategies using their own experience, for evaluating and assessing their patients.

Att hantera en pandemi : En kvalitativ studie om äldre personers anpassning till aktivitetsinskränkningar under Covid-19 pandemin / To deal with a pandemic : A qualitative study on the adaptation of older people to occupational deprivation during the Covid-19 pandemic

Hansson, Adam, Humle, Christoffer January 2022 (has links)
Introduction: Older people have during the Covid 19 pandemic been limited in their activity performance that has hindered them in their everyday life. They have largely been relegated to their homes and have not had the opportunity to perform the activities they wanted to do.  Aim: This study aimed to investigate the adaptive strategies older people have used to cope with occupational limitations during the Covid – 19 pandemics. Method: The design of the study was qualitative interviews with an inductive approach where the participants were recruited purposively through contact with various pensioners associations and the data was analysed by a qualitative content analysis Results: The results show that older people have used various forms of adaptive strategies to manage the Covid -19 pandemic, that has resulted in five categories, changed food and drinking habits, adapted social interactions, reshaped physical activity, adapted thinking and changed purchasing patterns. Conclusions: The study has shown that older people have adapted their activities in different ways, partly they have adapted the activities they carried out before the pandemic to the new context, but they have also found new activities more adapted to the current situation.

Home- and occupation-based interventions in stroke rehabilitation: a scoping review

Blindeman, Eline January 2021 (has links)
Introduction: Stroke puts a burden on the society as half of the stroke survivors have long term care needs. After six months many stroke survivors cannot independently perform basic daily life activities, which makes living independently at home challenging. Stroke survivors who received occupational therapy are more independent for those activities. As more and more stroke survivors are discharged home faster, having an insight into the continued rehabilitation in the home environment is of great importance for the future. Aim: The aim of this review was to map which occupation-based interventions occupational therapists use in home-based stroke rehabilitation with the goal to improve basic activities of daily life. Methods: A scoping review was chosen to map and to summarize the research content and to identify possible research gaps. Data for this study was systematically collected by following Arksey and O’Malley’s framework. In total, six studies were obtained that met the inclusion criteria. Results: The results show that a combination of intervention strategies is used and besides Control Induced Movement Therapy the usage of activities as treatment came to the fore. Conclusion: The results lead to the conclusion that occupation-based activities are used to improve basic activities of daily life. The lack of detailed explanation of the interventions makes it difficult to implement those in daily life practice and therefore more descriptive interventions should be published to encourage evidence-based practice.

My thesis entitled: "Robert A. Pape: Critical Presentation of One of the Theories of Suicide Terrorism." Its aim is to critically present the Roberts A. Pape theory of suicide terrorism to the Czech reader. Robert A. Pape's concept is very beneficial as per its point of view on the studied phenomena - detailed and enormous amount of analysis, statistics that his colleagues and him were capable to gain along with the original data interpretation. The core of my thesis is presented by Robert A. Pape's second book: Dying to Win, it also creates the centerpiece of his suicide terrorism theory. It contains the basics of the concept, which is extended in his third and newest book: Cutting the Fuse and partially is and outcome of his first book Bombing to Win. Key words: Robert A. Pape, suicide terrorism, occupation, religion, nationalism, coercive strategy

"Německá" Praha 1939-1945 / Das "deutsche Prag" 1939-1945. Ein Beitrag zur Erforschung der besetzten Hauptstädte Europas

Lohmann, Nina January 2014 (has links)
anglicky The PhD thesis Das "deutsche Prag" 1939-1945. Ein Beitrag zur Erforschung der besetzten Hauptstädte Europas deals with the German occupation of Prague before and during World War II in the context of current research on the National-socialist occupation of Europe. The so-called Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia has been somewhat on the sidelines of current trends in international historiography as has the history of Prague in the Twentieth century. The thesis therefore first sketches out the broader research context as well as the roots for German occupation policy in the former Czechoslovak capital city, referring to the once prominent position of the German minority in Prague. One main focus of the thesis is then to try and analyse the (changing) structure and the population movement of the Germans in Prague during the years of occupation. In a next step, examples are given on how the German occupation regime tried to consolidate and expand the Germans' position in the city, aiming for an eventual re-modeling of the urban structure in terms of a "Germanisation" of the Bohemian capital. A chapter on the final collapse and dissolution of "German Prague" concludes the study.
