Soto Flórez, Karla 14 August 2020 (has links)
The present project is a mixed building under the concept “in between” (intermediate spaces), the main typology of which is a university residence, complementary to which arise complementary uses such as commerce, co-working offices and multipurpose rooms. It is strategically located in the Pueblo Libre district, close to the necessary and complementary equipment for these typologies. With the elaboration of this project, the aim is to cover 3.05% of the current demand from students from the province or from abroad, who due to a lack of buildings like this, have the need to stay in environments that are not architecturally suitable for their needs. The objective of the university residence is to accommodate the students and provide them with leisure and rest spaces whose architectural quality allows the students to function personally, academically, socially and culturally. On the other hand, it is necessary to mention that co-working offices, shops and multipurpose rooms are complementary spaces to this residence, which are included in the project in order to make it more attractive to investors and, therefore, hence, more profitable.

January 2019 (has links)
Providing a comfortable indoor environment is necessary for their occupants to achieve better performance. Thus, one of the main factors for the quality of an environment is that it is thermally comfortable. In this sense, architectural choices have the ability to provide experiences, whether physical, functional or psychological, capable of influencing the thermal perception of their occupants. In turn, users of individual rooms play a fundamental role in adjusting the systems that aim to establish thermal comfort conditions of their rooms. Thus, the objective of the study was to verify, through an exploratory analysis, how the use of bioclimatic strategies to obtain environmental comfort by individual office users is able to influence the thermal sensation. For this, a case study was conducted with the teachers and their individual office rooms of the four department buildings at School of Architecture, Arts and Communication of São Paulo State University (UNESP), campus Bauru: Design; Architecture, Urbanism and Landscaping; Humanities; and Arts and Graphic Representation. The research adopted a mixed method with quantitative and qualitative evaluations through, respectively, computer simulation and questionnaires application. The results showed that users of individual offices can have their perception and thermal comfort influenced by non-thermal variables and that the ps... Arkitektonisk kvalitet med fokus på skönhet – En fallstudie av hyresgästers betalningsvilja för skönhet i Garnisonen / Qualitative architecture with focus on beauty – A case study of tenants’ willingness to pay for beauty in Garnisonen

Kölborg, Emma, Mähler, Johanna January 2015 (has links)
In the Real Estate market there are a large number of commercial properties with offices. As a company or business you are faced with many decisions when choosing your office space. This bachelor thesis examines the concept of architectural quality with focus on beauty and its value for office tenants. The ambition is to find out if beauty is a decisive factor in the selection of office and if there is a willingness to pay for it. The selected question is studied in a case study of Garnisonen where tenants, a property owner and an architect are interviewed, all with connection to the examination object. Garnisonen is well suited as a case study because it is Stockholm's largest office complex with buildings from three different architectural eras. Tenants in the survey represent all architectural styles and have different industry affiliation. As a theoretical framework a literature study is presented where the importance of beauty for the individual, the built environment and society are treated, and also how the office can be used for branding purposes. The interviewees’ views of beauty and their opinions on beauty at work in Garnisonen are presented in the results. To find out if there is a willingness to pay for beauty the respondents get to put a value on beauty based on rental changes given in per cent. The analysis links the results with the theory chapter. The conclusion interprets the analysis and discloses the willingness to pay for beauty in Garnisonen with the aspiration to give an indication of a more general view of the value of beauty.

Multifaceted Exploration of Disability Support Offices in Higher Education Institutions: Analyzing Websites, Staff Members’ Autism Attitudes and Knowledge, and Perspectives of Autistic Students

Kim, So Yoon January 2020 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Kristen Bottema-Beutel / Many autistic students enrolled in colleges/universities, who are academically qualified for admission, experience difficulties adjusting to their college life. Disability support offices (DSOs) of higher education institutions (HEIs) assume the responsibility of providing supports to autistic students, but many DSOs lack the resources to cater to the varied needs of these students. To gain a nuanced understanding, this set of three studies explores contextual factors around DSOs that may influence autistic students’ experiences with DSOs and their perspectives about available DSO support. In Study 1, DSO websites of 12 US HEIs were examined using multimodal discourse analysis, and the study revealed that DSO websites share genre features with advertisements. DSO websites advertised the services they provide in efforts to ‘brand’ their institution. This commodification of DSO supports raises concerns because accommodations given to students with disabilities should be understood as their legal rights rather than sellable products. In Study 2, a nationwide sample of 153 DSO staff members completed a battery of online surveys to determine significant predictors of their attitudes and knowledge about autism. The quality of previous contact was shown to be associated with social distance, openness, and knowledge about autism, and several institutional variables significantly predicted staff members’ attitudes and knowledge about autism. Lastly, in Study 3, 27 autistic undergraduate students were interviewed about their experiences with DSOs, and their responses were qualitatively analyzed using a generic inductive approach. Students reported on their general perceptions of DSOs, decisions about not receiving DSO supports, and their perception of ways that DSOs could support them better. Together, the findings of the three studies inform the work of DSOs in developing appropriate systems that support autistic students to successfully navigate college. Developing service provision systems that comprehensively address these issues reported by autistic students should be a collective institutional responsibility to increase autism awareness and acceptance on college campuses and make online and physical space accessible for autistic students. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2020. / Submitted to: Boston College.
