Análise do uso racional da água em edifícios de escritórios na cidade de São Paulo: métodos, práticas e certificação ambiental / Analysis of rational water use in office buildings in Sao Paulo: methods, practices, and environmental certificate

Janaina Gabriela Barbosa 13 May 2013 (has links)
In order to reduce water waste and encourage consumption awareness it is necessary to develop a rational use of water supply. The city of São Paulo currently faces a critical level of water, with scarcity due to population and demand growth, and lack of wastewater treatment, capturing a getting water from increasingly distant supply watersheds. This research aims at analyzing the rational water use in office buildings, checking procedures, methods, techniques, technologies and practices adopted for resource rationalization. Some the concepts of water conservation, water quality, potable and non potable water consumption, saving measures; font substitution: use of rainwater, groundwater, artesian well, reclaimed water, environmental certification are herein included. The environmental certification process for buildings has contributed with incentives and awareness of water conservation. Among the environmental certification seals we have the LEED, AQUA, CASA AZUL CAIXA SEAL, and the labeling process PROCEL EDIFICA to rebate water consumption. Case studies were conducted, comparing the rational use of water in an office building certified by the LEED, with nine cases of non-certified office buildings located in the same region in the city of São Paulo. Techniques, procedures and technologies used in each case were observed and were assessed the benefits of the environmental certification for the rational use of water, with objective of carrying out comparative the qualitative and quantitative analysis between cases. This paper finally presents procedures have been described to assist projects development of projects of office buildings seeking a more rational use of water.

Improving predictions of operational energy performance through better estimates of small power consumption

Kossmann de Menezes, Anna Carolina January 2013 (has links)
This Engineering Doctorate aims to understand the factors that generate variability in small power consumption in commercial office buildings in order to generate more representative, building specific estimates of energy consumption. Current energy modelling practices in England are heavily focussed on simplified calculations for compliance with Building Regulations, which exclude numerous sources of energy use such as small power. When considered, estimates of small power consumption are often based on historic benchmarks, which fail to capture the significant variability of this end-use, as well as the dynamic nature of office environments. Six interrelated studies are presented in this thesis resulting in three contributions to existing theory and practice. The first contribution consists of new monitored data of energy consumption and power demand profiles for individual small power equipment in use in contemporary office buildings. These were used to inform a critical review of existing benchmarks widely used by designers in the UK. In addition, monthly and annual small power consumption data for different tenants occupying similar buildings demonstrated variations of up to 73%. The second contribution consists of a cross-disciplinary investigation into the factors influencing small power consumption. A study based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour demonstrated that perceived behavioural control may account for 17% of the variation in electricity use by different tenants. A subsequent monitoring study at the equipment level identified that user attitudes and actions may have a greater impact on variations in energy consumption than job requirements or computer specification alone. The third contribution consists of two predictive models for estimating small power demand and energy consumption in office buildings. Outputs from both models were validated and demonstrated a good correlation between predictions and monitored data. This research also led to the development and publication of industry guidance on how to stimate operational energy use at the design stage.

January 2018 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Preventive maintenance or maintenance focused on reliability are systematic actions, usually scheduled, of control and monitoring, aiming to reduce failures with increasing usability of equipment. Defects in machines, equipment or processes are a source of damage to clinics and dental offices, if they are malfunctioning or simply fail to fulfill the purpose. Such maintenance is already used by the industry, which aims at scheduling stops at equipment or processes before failures occur. These schedules take into consideration: a) the time that the equipment or process should be stopped for the execution of adjustments of process variables; b) replacement of components before the end of the useful life preventing damage by the use; c) planning the replacement of the equipment as a whole or part thereof, on-site or off-site as required. Failures cause some impact on the billing at dental service stations, because they generate rework for the dentist who has part of his time that should be productive, unavailable for work. In this work a research was carried out with several dentistry professionals, who use equipment subject to failure. From the research it was identified that air compressors are the most damaging equipment. An embedded management, monitoring and warning equipment has been designed and developed to assist in the management of preventive maintenance of air compressors in clinics and dental offices / Mestre

Utilization of information technology to support information and knowledge management by law firms in Polokwane City

Bopape, Tsekere Solomon January 2009 (has links)
Thesis (Ph.D. (Information Studies)) --University of Limpopo, 2009 / This research report serves as an empirical investigation into the utilization of information technology to support information and knowledge management in law firms, as well as an attempt to design an information and knowledge management model for law firms. Members of the legal profession attached to law firms in the Polokwane City were investigated to find out how optimally they utilize information and communication technologies to support information and knowledge management in their daily operations. The research indicated that there are several ways in which information technology could be used to support the creation, organization, and transfer of information and knowledge in law firms, for the benefit of both lawyers and their clients . In order to provide for an empirical basis for this research, a survey research method, through the use of the questionnaires and interviews, was conducted, followed by a detailed content analysis of law firm websites. An in-depth literature review on the utilization of information technology to support information and knowledge management in law firms was also carried out to determine the findings of other studies that have been conducted elsewhere on the current topic. The results of this research showed that lawyers attached to law firms in the city of Polokwane appear to be non-users of information technology in as far as information and knowledge management is concerned. Most of the members of the law firms in the city seem to be utilizing information technology for basic purposes such as word processing, legal research, client billing, and communication through the e-mail. Other information and knowledge management tools, such as intranets, extranets and web portals, appear not to be utilized by most of the law firms in the city. Based on the findings of this research project, an information and knowledge network model, in a form of Wireless Local Area Network for the law firms in the Polokwane City, is proposed. This network could be utilized by law firms operating in the city to deposit, organize, retrieve, and share information and knowledge collaboratively through the use of information technology. Factors that should be taken into consideration in attempting to implement the proposed model are also discussed. At the end of the research report, some recommendations on encouraging lawyers to utilize information technology optimally are provided, together with recommendations for future research.

Kaohsiung Citizens and Households Officers¡¦ Cognitive Analysis of the Household Registration Office in the Public Value

Lee, Shu-Hua 24 July 2012 (has links)
In the face of the global trend of administrative reform, to cope with changing times and enhance the competitiveness, Taiwan restructures the administrative division into five Metropolitan Cities. To improve the administrative efficiency of the Government and responding to people's need, Central and local government implement reconstruction, rebuilding the organizational culture and the core values. After the Reform, among the five new Metropolitan Cities, Kaohsiung City has the biggest transformation in size of the city and organizational changes, also in geography, culture, industry, transportation, community, and more. It becomes more challenging for the local government to face the new problems. The Household Registration Office is the front-line of customer services and their core value is ¡§to better serve people¡¨. During the general public¡¦s visit to the Household Registration Office, people can feel the changes of better customer services and efficiency. This will change public¡¦s view of the government operation. Therefore, the Kaohsiung Household Registration Office has to set a very clear organizational mission and vision. Furthermore, with the limited resources, managers must worry about how to build the public value and vision, which will be recognized and implemented by the members of the Office. At the same time, these values and vision should be also recognized by the general public. The purpose of this study is to explore public value differences among different parties within the Kaohsiung Household Registration Office. Through Public Affairs Management and literature analysis, I outline the characteristics of regional governance in Kaohsiung City. With in-depth interview of the policy-setting officials of the Kaohsiung Household Registration Office, I also focus on the public values of the Household Registration Office. This study corresponds to four structure (Organization internal process, and financial, and customer, and learning and growth) of Balanced Score Card, and to establish a goal to evaluate the organizational performance. The Social Judgment Theory questionnaires are also based on this. Test target are the entry-level Household Registration Officers of previous known as Kaohsiung City and Kaohsiung County. At the same time, I asked the general public to answer the same Balanced Score Card questionnaires. This will help the manager to understand the variation of public value differences among different parties. This will also help the managers to solve the problem in-time, change the content of public value and to achieve the goal set by the Local Government. This result of the study, for the Household Registration Office, there are no big discrepancy before and after the Reform. The main reason is that Household Registration Office utilizes the nationwide Standardized Computer Operation System. And the regulation is base on Household Registration Act. Both Computer System and regulation are put in place by the Central Government. However, from this study, after the merger of city and County, I did find that the Kaohsiung Household Registration Office need to do an overall adjustment in the allocation of financial resources and staffing, local application of the separate regulations and organizational cultural.

The new world of work : a case of small office home office and performance outcomes

Theron, Pieter. January 2011 (has links)
M.Tech. Business Administration. Business School. / Optimal performance outcomes when working from home (small office home office) (SOHO) refers to the impact of job satisfaction and work-life-balance on it. Working from home doesn't have an effect on job satisfaction but does influence work-life-balance positively. Two hypotheses were investigated: (1) whether the job satisfaction of employees working from home at Alexander Forbes was affected and (2) whether the work-life-balance of employees working from home at Alexander Forbes was affected.

An analysis of international trends in city centre restructuring and office decentralisation in Durban.

Rushby, Joanne. January 2001 (has links)
This dissertation investigates the links between economic and spatial trends, with particular emphasis on office decentralisation in Durban. It focuses on globalisation and its effect on economic processes, how these have impacted on the spatial structure of cities, and whether the current changes in the economy and nature of work as opposed to environmental factors such as crime and grime, are causes of decentralising activity. This study looks at three case studies internationally, that of Glasgow, Rotterdam and Johannesburg, which give perspective on, not only the problems associated with the decline in manufacturing, but also how these cities have realigned themselves spatially into the new global economy. In the case of Johannesburg, the difficulties inherited from the apartheid era and the nature of urbanisation in the post-apartheid era are investigated, which have resulted in a fundamental restructuring of the Central Business District. Finally, the case of Durban, with particular emphasis on the area of La Lucia ridge to the north of the city is the focus area for research into office decentralisation, and the links between environmental and economic factors. The current restructuring of the CBD and its problems are highlighted, and the reasons for decentralising activity are explored in the light of the changing nature of work and the economy. / Thesis (M.Sc.)-University of Natal, 2001.

Impact of work-related activities on the outflow to employment and education within guarantees JDG and JGY. A study of public employment offices / Effekten av arbetsplatsförlagda aktiviteter på utflödet till arbete och utbildning inom garantierna JOB och UGA. En studie av de offentliga arbetsförmedlingarna

Sukhanova, Ekaterina January 2013 (has links)
This study uses employment office-level panel data to investigate the impact of work-related activities on the outflow from unemployment to work and education. The two largest labor market programs in Sweden are studied: Job and Development Guarantee and Job Guarantee for the Youth. To examine how activity participation affects the outflow to employment/education I had to examine differences between offices (office heterogeneity). This heterogeneity could be differences in local labor market conditions, office’s managerial ability, quality of activities and other features that are non-varying for each individual office. The method to answer the research question is fixed effects distributed lag regression analysis with lagged values of the independent variable “activity participation rate”. In addition to the one-way office-specific fixed effects model, a model with time-specific fixed effects was introduced to check for seasonal impacts and fixed macroeconomic conditions that influence all offices. According to the two-way fixed effects regression results, the seasonal variations seem to have a stronger impact on the outflow to work/education than the work-related activities participation rates. Particularly, when time-specific fixed effects were added to the model with office-specific effects, the overall effect of work-related activities on the outflow rate became statistically non-significant and brought inconclusive results. The results have shown that the month of September has the strongest and most positive influence on the outflow rate as more people find work and leave to education during this month. The months that have the lowest impacts on the dependent variable are March and October, which means that fewer individuals left to work/education during these months across offices, in comparison to other months.
