Sexualidade feminina na trama do tempo : narrativas indizíveis por mulheres invisíveis /

Silva, Camila Cuencas Funari Mendes e. January 2019 (has links)
Sexuality for this particular audience is largely covered by the veil of invisibility. Our research participants are witnesses of the passage of time and have their life trajectories circumvented by the socio-cultural environment where each one of them, according to their experience, gives different meanings in the experience of sexuality. In order to promote the leading role of the elderly, this theme carries with it a multiplicity of factors to be researched, such as: ageing population, sexuality, gender differences. Therefore, reflecting on female sexuality in old age feeds the desire to learn how older women live, experience, symbolize and resignify the effect of aging on the expression of sexuality in the contemporary social context. To talk about sexuality is to talk about oneself and it allows us to construct subjectivity in different stages - from childhood to old age, bringing together bodily, symbolic and psychic aspects. Inheritors of social, cultural and scientific patterns, the participants of this thesis narrated their stories permeated with silences, stereotypes and prejudices. For this purpose, we chose the dialogue between Psychology and other areas of knowledge such as Anthropology, Social Sciences and others, to scientifically ground our questions we chose the Narrative methodology to support us in the search for the stories and memories of the part... The measurement of change in well-being in a longitudinal study of pre- and post-retirees

Beaudet, Marie P. 01 January 1985 (has links)
The primary focus of this dissertation is an empirical investigation of three approaches to the measurement of longitudinal change. For the present study, difference scores, residual change scores, and percentage gain scores are compared to determine if their use results in similar findings when the relationships between three resource areas (health, social, and financial) and subjective well-being are analyzed. The propositions which are tested were derived from current aging theories. Meta-analysis procedures were employed to synthesize past research findings in gerontology. The data which were analyzed are those of the Longitudinal Retirement History Study (LRHS), a research project sponsored by the Social Security Administration. The sample consists of 8922 continuers who participated in the 1969, 1971, and 1973 waves of data collection. Findings from the meta-analysis suggest that the correlation coefficients calculated from the LRHS data on the relationship between subjecive well-being and the areas of health resources and social resources are similar to those of other aging studies. The relationship between measures of financial resources and subjective well-being is stronger for the LRHS respondents than that reported in other aging studies. The results on the analysis of longitudinal change indicate that change in health resources and in financial resources are significant predictors of subjective well-being at a later-point-in-time and of change in subjective well-being. For the present study, change in social resources contributes little to the regression equations. The three selected approaches to the measurement of change rank individuals similarly on the construct of change. However, the use of difference scores, residual change scores, and percentage gain scores does not always result in similar findings when multivariate procedures are used. Residual change scores appear to possess a number of advantages. They tend, however, to be strongly related to the time 2 scores from which they are derived, a phenomenon not emphasized in the measurement of change literature. Improving the reliability of measures, allowing adequate time for change to occur, and using sample sizes which are large are suggested to maximize the possibility of obtaining correlation coeffecients based on change scores which are large and stable.

Securing Services for the Older Population : a Training Manual for I and R Workers

Nemmert, Catherine M. 01 January 1976 (has links)
This manual is written as a self-training guide on the elements of Information and Referral (I and R) service and on the process of providing I and R to the older population. The manual attempts to build a useful framework for methods of providing I and R service. The manual is directed at workers who are providing I and R services to the elderly. It is intended to serve as an orientation guide on the basic elements of I and R service and as a "how to" guide for methods and techniques of service provision. The new worker should find the manual helpful as a basic training tool and the experienced worker who may wish to use the material to assess or strengthen his/her current practices. Information and Referral services for the elderly were given high priority in the 1973 amendments to the Older Americans Act which established a goal of providing "reasonably convenient access" to I and R services for all older persons in this country. Numerous organizations are involved in providing this service, ranging from small senior centers to large public bureaucracies. With this assortment of organizations, there are differences in interpretations and methods of providing I and R service. land R is provided over the telephone, in office settings and through outreach efforts. This manual was written in an attempt to pull together basic information on the elements and dimensions of I and R service provision, that would be useful for all I and R workers securing services for the elderly. The manual is organized in three self-contained chapters which can be used separately for the specific topic areas or together as a comprehensive training guide. Each chapter is followed by exercises which enable the worker to practice specific techniques and to apply information obtained in the text to his/her work situation. Chapter I serves as an overview and should furnish the worker with a historical perspective and an understanding of the basic elements of I and R service. Chapter II focuses on the process of I and R service provision and the interaction between the worker and the consumer. Chapter III presents techniques and guidelines for providing I and R service. An appendix of suggested readings is also included. The manual is most profitably used when followed by discussion with a supervisor or co-worker.

Reliability of measurements of level of intellectual functioning of geriatric patients

Baker, Janet Aline 01 January 1964 (has links) (PDF)
The primary purpose of this study was to measure geriatric patients’ levels of intellectual functioning in order to determine the reliability of several specific test instruments. From the battery of measurements used in the study, it was an additional objective to recommend which of these test instruments, or combination thereof, would be most applicable for geriatric patients, based on the empirical findings of this study. Level of intellectual functioning may certainly be influenced by many factors. Therefore, it was part of this study to measure and control for the effects of the following variable: sex, age, education, and medication.
