conhecimento, observadas na Uneb, no âmbito do Sistema Universidade Aberta do
Brasil (UAB).
ABSTRACT This research focuses on the mapping of innovative practices of knowledge
management, observed in UNEB under the Open University System of Brazil (UAB).
It was conducted a study of knowledge management processes that have been
developed and practiced collaboratively on network by universities that are part of
UAB. It was found that these processes have been created since the conception of
the UAB project and implemented in the period of consolidation of distance learning
in Brazilian public universities, which began in 2006 with UAB‟s creation. The
cognitive mapping techniques were used to develop the analysis, seeking to use this
experience and their systematization, to outline the process that was named
Collaborative Knowledge Management Network (CKMN), designed in the development of this research and uses information technology in knowledge management at the university. After mapping the processes performed from the University of the State of Bahia, considering its participation in the UAB and its interaction with other institutions that integrate, reflections were performed with the use of analyzes models, developed for this purpose, through the which were
considered the legal aspects and guidelines created by the UAB System, from conception and giving rise to the morphology of collaborative network. Were also analyzed, interactive practices in knowledge management processes, which were designed in the form of maps, from the theoretical references made in this study. The
reference for the study of the skills and practical exercise of jurisdiction by UAB
collaboration coordinators, representatives of higher education institutions members
of the System, in their day to day, were the result of sandwich doctoral stage, held at
the Open University in the United Kingdom in 2013, from which also came the discussions on Open Educational Resources (OER) and the further development of techniques of cognitive mapping, widely used. Management procedures of this process were recorded and analyzed to give them greater visibility, seeking greater consistency to its understanding as a management process and in order to allow its use for the quality of knowledge management in distance higher education. The results show clearly the existence of an innovative process of knowledge management in the university, which is mainly based on the exercise of the
competence of collaboration realized by a network of interactions between system
components, using virtual communities on the Internet, created for this purpose and
other face meetings structures, systematically performed.

Textbook Cost-lowering Initiatives: An Exploration Of Community College Faculty ExperiencesDunn, Susan 01 January 2014 (has links)
Faculty have been identified as critical players in the implementation of textbook affordability efforts at community colleges. Furthermore, emerging lower-cost alternatives to traditional textbooks present a wide and growing range of options that may help further efforts. This study sought to examine more closely the role of faculty with respect to textbook cost-lowering initiatives. The researcher utilized in-depth interviews to gain a rich picture of the experiences, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors of nine full-time community college faculty as they confronted textbook affordability efforts and textbook alternatives. The interview data were analyzed using a thematic analysis process. Five major themes and three minor themes were identified. The five major themes were: (a) campus administrators support, but do not mandate, efforts; (b) frequent edition revisions frustrate faculty; (c) departmental approaches to textbook selection vary; (d) content, then affordability, drive selection choices; and (e) faculty have mixed feelings about textbook alternatives. The three minor themes were: (a) faculty efforts to save students money are thwarted by campus bookstores and financial aid policies; (b) English faculty benefit from public domain readings; and (c) more faculty participating in textbook selection means more difficulty deciding on a text. Implications and recommendations were offered for community college leaders, campus bookstores, publishers, and future researchers.

The perception of faculty members of Namibian open distance learning institutions on the use of open educational resourcesKaripi, Edwig 24 July 2020 (has links)
Abstract in English, Xhosa and Venda / Open educational resources (OER) is a new innovation coined to bridge the educational divide by way of providing free quality learning resources. Consequently, this study explored the perception of the faculty members of the Namibian open and distance learning institutions on the use of OER as a pedagogical approach. This study was prompted by the presumption that if ODL institutions adopt open educational resources to replace costly textbooks, an increased number of the Namibian population could access education in the equitable manner. The study focused on faculty members from the three public ODL institutions in Namibia, namely, the Namibian College of Open Learning (NAMCOL), University of Namibia (UNAM)-Centre for Open, Distance and eLearning (CODeL) and Namibian University of Science and Technology (NUST)-Centre of Open and Lifelong Learning (COLL).
The following integrated theories were adopted to underpin this study: Transformative Learning Theory, Heutagogy Learning Theory, Cognitive Learning Theory and Social Learning Theory, Constructivism Learning Theory, Connectivism Theory and the Diffusion of Innovations Theory. The theories were compared to the findings to assess their applicability.
This is a qualitative case underpinned by an interpretivist paradigm. Data were collected through interviews, non-participant observations and document analysis, and analysed through the inductive approach. The results of this study showed inconsistency between the perception of the faculty members and the use of OER within the ODL institutions in Namibia. Although the faculty members displayed positive attitudes towards the use of OER, very little has been achieved in the use of OER within the institutions for the benefit of the Namibian ODL students. The study identified challenges that impede the adoption of OER at institutional level, such as lack of institutional policies, lack of awareness, technological factors, as well as management support. The study further crafted strategies to address challenges, including the OER design based on the Diffusion of Innovation Model. The study advanced recommendations for consideration by the institutions and the faculty members as well as suggestions for future research. The knowledge contribution made by this PhD is the proposed OER design for adoption by the ODL institutions to facilitate the use of OER by faculty members. / Ubuchule bokufunda ekuthiwa yiOpen Educational Resources (OER) licebo elitsha lokunikezela simahla ngemithombo yokufunda esemgangathweni, nelenzelwe ukukhawulelana nobunzima bokushiyashiyana emfundweni. Esi sifundo siphonononge indlela abacinga ngayo abahlohli bamaziko emfundo aseNamibia avulekileyo nafundisa abafundi bekude (iiODL), ngokusetyenziswa kweOER njengendlela yokufundisa. Utilising open educational resources in support of curriculum transformation at Africa Nazarene University : a participatory action research approachMays, Tony John 05 1900 (has links)
This thesis, Utilising Open Educational Resources in support of curriculum transformation at Africa Nazarene University: A participatory action research approach, derives from a multi-year project implemented by OER Africa, and funded by the Hewlett Foundation, to explore the potential of Open Educational Resources (OER) in support of pedagogic transformation in African universities. The project involves four institutions: Africa Nazarene University (ANU) in Kenya, the Open University of Tanzania (OUT), and the Universities of Pretoria and the Free State (UP and UFS) in South Africa. This study centred on ANU only in the period 2013 to 2016, with a focus on the period 2015-2016, and was timed to inform ANU’s new strategic planning process from 2017.
The wider project adopted a participatory action research process in its engagement with the four core institutions. Within this over-arching project methodology, this study made use of an analytical autoethnographic approach to capture and analyse data and to make recommendations, to acknowledge the researcher’s dual role as both a co-participant and an institutional project lead. The approach was informed primarily by hermeneutics and systems thinking and involved multiple in-country engagements with ANU and the triangulation of information derived from document review, observation and iterative focus group discussions and individual interviews. An OER Maturity Index and Planning Tool was also developed and used to inform planning and reflection and to provide a barometer of changing attitudes and activities regarding engagement with OER.
Initially the engagement focused on developing a supportive policy and capacity-building environment for individuals to integrate OER into specific Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) courses and to publish revised course materials under an open licence. However, as the initiative progressed, it became apparent that there was need to revisit the institution’s overall business model considering increased competition, new regulatory requirements and a growing demand from students for more flexible forms of provision. In fact, the key finding of this study is the suggestion that engagement with OER is unlikely to move from being an individual to an institutional focus unless such engagement is aligned with the overall vision, mission and business model of the university. / Curriculum and Instructional Studies / D.
