Jonchiere, Romain 17 June 2013 (has links) (PDF)

Förebyggande åtgärder mot kateterassocierad urinvägsinfektion : En litteraturöversikt / Prevention of catheter-associated urinary tract infection : A literature review

Liu, Aiming, Karlsson, Gabriel January 2019 (has links)
Resultat:Förebyggande åtgärder sammanställdes i tre huvudkategorier. / Background:An indwelling catheter is used as a treatment for acute or chronic urinary retention and is commonly used for diseases or some surgeries. At the same time, indwelling catheters increases the risk of urinary tract infections, which reduces patient safety, prolongs patient’s recovery and increases treatment costs. Several countries in Europe, North- and South America have conducted several studies that found evidence-based, effective preventive measures against catheter associated urinary tract infections. Evidence-based preventative measures should be found out and be used to decrease catheter associated urinary tract infections. Aim: To describe preventive measures in nursing against catheter-associated urinary tract infections. Method:Literature overview with Polit and Beck's nine-way model is used in selection and data collection to ensure that the 12 articles selected to the quality review were analyzed for results with an inductive approach. Results:Prevention measures were compiled into three main categories. First main category follows guidelines with subcategories catheterization only based on medical ordinance and appropriate indications, aseptic technique with proper equipment, fixation of catheter and collection bag and removal of catheter if no needs exists. Second main category performs check routines with subcategories perform catheterization checklist as well as check, report and document catheters daily. Third main category establish a systematic improvement work with subcategories appoint one or two responsible persons, offer lecture and training on catheterization and arrange workshop. Conclusions:Catheter associated urinary tract infections can be prevented if the nurse fulfills her/his competency with help of workshop, performs catheterization according to guidelines, manages and controls the urinary catheter according to control routines such as catheterization checklist.

Female changes : the violation and violence of women in Ovid's Metamorphoses

Champanis, Leigh Alexandra January 2013 (has links)
Ovid’s interest in women and their lives is apparent throughout his texts, but is especially so in the Metamorphoses. This study analyses the violation and violence of women in the Roman poet’s epic and sets out to uncover the governing social mores and values that perhaps shaped the representations of women in the text. It examines how Ovid’s narratives may betray his values and attitudes and those of his audience as well as looking at the various ways that the poet and his rape episodes have been read. After surveying the literature on rape in Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Ars Amatoria and the Fasti, a brief historical context for the Metamorphoses is provided; women’s lives in Rome, the rape laws that existed during this time, as well as Roman sexuality are then examined. After this, a close textual analysis of different rape episodes in the Metamorphoses is presented, including the episodes of nymphs as victims, the silencing of rape victims and sexually ‘aggressive’ women, in order to reveal and examine the patterns that emerge. While Ovid’s intentions and attitudes towards women, as they are found in the Metamorphoses, have been read by some as sympathetic, by others as misogynistic and still others as more neutral, it is concluded that, although there is space for various readings, as a poet, Ovid was ‘opportunistic’ in his choice of materia and, above all, he wished to stimulate and delight his audience. While his personal values may not necessarily be reflected in his works and his readers may never know the ‘true’ intentions behind the poem, the Metamorphoses does hold up a mirror to the negative treatment of women and exposes the gender inequalities that existed during Ovid’s time. As a poet, however, Ovid’s conceived role is to entertain his audience and despite his somewhat problematic treatment of women and rape victims, he does just that.

Expanding Context: A Look at the Industrial Landscapes of Astoria, Oregon, 1880- 1933

Steen, Sarah L., 1973- 12 1900 (has links)
xii, 169 p. : ill. (some col.), maps. A print copy of this thesis is available through the UO Libraries. Search the library catalog for the location and call number. / This thesis examines the possibility of a broader approach to the concept of "context" within the practice of historic preservation by producing a more inclusive model for preservationists to use in reading dynamic cultural and environmental systems. The industrial landscape of Astoria, Oregon with its buildings and ruins of once dominant fishing and canning industries serves as a case study to explore this idea. The author examines late 19th century and early 20th century industrial development in terms of cultural influx, industrial landscape development, and vernacular architecture. This thesis explores how the landscape has responded to influences such as economic shift, environmental change, migrant populations, and technology, and how cultural landscapes and the natural environment combine to form a distinct human geography as reflected in architectural and material remains. Many of the issues raised are specific to maritime, west coast, and extractive industrial settlements. / Committee in Charge: Dr. Susan Hardwick, Chair; Shannon Bell

This new approach aims to provide a meaningful learning related to the subject exponential function, since students and teachers sometimes have difficulty understanding this concept, especially when it comes to real exponents. The work was based on preparation of some activities based on the Theory of Didactical Situations and applied following the methodology of the Didactic Engineering. There were basically five activity sheets, three of them were printed and two of them were spreadsheets. The problems and exercises aimed to examine and extend the validity of the fundamental property of exponential functions, that is, f(m + n) = f(m):f (n) for the dominance of natural numbers, integer, rational, real, and for the last one, we only worked with spreadsheets, specifically in the activity sheet number 5, to afford students an understanding about how the calculator obtains the approximate result of 2 √2 for example. The spreadsheet was also used in the activity sheet number 4, which deals with rational exponents. On this one we present an algorithm for the approximate calculation of nth roots of any real number. The activity sheets have been developed in order to provide students with maximum autonomy so that they could resolve them, being interspersed with adjunct sheets in order to introduce the new concept and theory discussed in the following activity sheet. The activities were implemented at a state school in It´apolis, and the results in a final analysis showed that this approach supplied a significant learning compared to traditional teaching.

At same time this factors may provide clues about the structure of a population and its ecological balance. The organizational structure, ecology and behavior of a species appraised in a region if we know be in balance when compared to the same type of appraisal made in a degraded area can provide a clear view of how the anthropogenic influences acted on these species and what steps can be taken in order to mitigate the effects and keep the population. The region where this study was conducted is, like most areas of port, subject to intense physical and environmental degradation. With the emerging interest of change in the quality of these environments also by the companies themselves that use the port services, the proposed study aimed to characterize the use of habitat, the distribution of behavioral activities carried out throughout the day and influence of geomorphology of the bed, depth and variation of tide on the expression of the behavior of Sotalia guianensis in the port of Maceio - Alagoas. From this information will be possible establish parameters for comparison with other populations of S. guianensis and establish conservation measures for the population occurring in the port of Maceio - AL, serving also as a basis for conservation actions future performed in other port regions / Os fatores f?sicos e ambientais apresentados por cada h?bitat e a ritimicidade dos padr?es comportamentais influenciam fortemente a ecologia e o comportamento dos seres vivos em geral.

Pesquisa de genes e/ou segmentos cromossômicos em pacientes com obesidade, e/ou hiperfagia, atraso do desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor e/ou dificuldades de aprendizado e distúrbios de comportamento / Study of genes and / or chromosome segments in patientes with obesity and / or hyperphagia, developmental delay and / or learning disabilities and behavior disorders

Ilana Kohl 03 August 2010 (has links)
Syndromic obesity is defined as obesity occurring in association with several distinct clinical features and mental retardation (MR). Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is the most frequent syndromic form of obesity and is characterized by hypotonia, poor sucking in the neonatal period, developmental delay, hyperphagia, obesity, short stature in adolescence, small hands and feet, hypogonadism, learning disabilities and behavior disturbances. Herein, we studied 141 patients with obesity and/or hyperphagia, psychomotor developmental delay and/or learning disabilities and behavior disturbances with the technique of MLPA (multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification), and 19 patients by SNP-array technique (\"The GeneChip 174; Mapping 100K Set, Affymetrix) to identify copy number variations. By using both techniques we detected deletions or duplications of the genome in ten patients: two deletions at 1p36, two deletions at 12q15q21.1 (twins), a deletion of chromosomes 2p25.3, 6q16.1-q21, and Xp22.13p22.12, a duplication of chromosomes 14q11.2 and Xq26.3, and an unbalanced translocation between chromosomes 3p26.3 and 11q22.3. Monosomy 1p36 and monosomy 6q16 are well-known syndromes and had already been related with obesity. Both syndromes are considered as differential diagnosis of PWS. Several genes related to obesity are mapped in the altered chromosome segments: DRD2, MCHR2, PLCH2, PRKCZ, RAB21, RAB2B, RAB39, TPO and SIM1. Eleven parents were studied by MLPA, SNP array, and / or karyotype analyses, and chromosomal rearrangements were not identified. Therefore, we consider these rearrangements to be causative of the patients´ phenotype. The diagnosis of patients with syndromic obesity is a challenge due to the overlapping of the phenotypes, except for Prader-Willi syndrome that is a clinically recognizable syndrome, mainly in its second phase. The use of techniques that detect copy number variations of the human genome will increase the recognition of new syndromes and also the description of the spectrum of phenotypic variability of known syndromes. These syndromes are a potential source for the understanding of the etiology of the common forms of obesity.
