Networking Challenges : A Case Study of Swedish Firms Acting on the Japanese Market

Ivarsson, Jonas, Pira, Erik, Stomberg, Ulf January 2010 (has links)

This thesis aims to describe how Swedish firms have established themselves on the Japanese market with help from their business network. This research has been conducted in the light of the economic recession and the complicated Japanese business networks. We have chosen to use a qualitative approach and by doing so we received the three respondents’ views of doing business on the Japanese market. We have focused this thesis on the importance of networks and relationships and have chosen to use new theories regarding business networks and business relationships for the base of our research and to link them with our empirical findings. The interviews conducted have been focused on three respondents who all have broad experience of the Japanese market. These three interviews have been compared to each other in our analysis and through this we have drawn our conclusions. We also give recommendations for Swedish firms who aim to establish themselves on this market.

Desire for inclusion in association football amongst minority ethnic communities in England

Whiteside, David January 2011 (has links)
This thesis examines the desire for inclusion in association football amongst minority ethnic communities in England. The thesis is based on two case studies informed by semi-structured qualitative interviews. These case studies focus on two minority ethnic groups, the Asian community in Bury and the black community in the City of Liverpool, and the relationship of these respective communities with local professional football clubs (specifically Bury FC and Everton FC). The thesis notes that despite, by most objective measures, football grounds being less dangerous places to visit nowadays, members of minority ethnic groups continue to reject live spectatorship. Such rejection exists despite evidence of engagement in football amongst the male members of these minority ethnic groups. Asian respondents expressed little civic pride in Bury or interest in Bury FC, and thus their rejection of spectatorship opportunities was unconscious. Data from black respondents identified widespread sense of belonging and identification with the City of Liverpool, but conscious rejection of spectatorship at Everton FC. Despite recognition of the clubs anti-racist work black respondents argued that the idea persists that Everton are institutionally racist with racist fans. While such a perception had also previously been ascribed to Liverpool FC (Everton s near neighbours), such perceptions had changed quicker at Liverpool FC, who appear more effective at attracting minority ethnic spectators. A number of factors emerged that contribute to the continued rejection of spectatorship amongst British minority ethnic groups at professional football clubs. One of these is the perception that football clubs are unwelcoming places and white spaces . Fear of racism and fear of violence were also often cited although these were found not to be absolute in nature for either minority ethnic group. Indeed, evidence from both groups found that they are developing their own we image rather than internalising their own group disgrace , though it is also argued that Elias and Scotson s notion of two groups, the established (white s) and the outsiders (blacks), is too simplistic and a more fluid conceptualisation is called for. Overall, the data illustrated that the identities of members of minority ethnic groups are complex, multifunctional, context specific and fragmented and thus so are their relationships with football.

Řeč obrazů, symbolů a aluzí v Rakúsově prozaickém souboru Pieseň o studničnej vode / Images, symbols and allusions in Stanislav Rakús: Pieseň o studničnej vode

Barvínková, Tereza January 2011 (has links)
The thesis is of an analytical/interpretative character, focusing on paradigmatic analysis of the motives, images, symbols and allusions in the works of Slovak novelist Stanislav Rakús. The object of the analysis is the short story collection Pieseň o studničnej vode, first published in 1979. The multilayeredness of Rakús's texts urges the reader to search for different interpretative possibilities. The language of images, symbols and allusions affects not only the motivic and expressive structure of the text, but also e.g. the temporal and spatial identification of the stories, and in a specific manner it also affects the narrative situation implied. The thesis focuses on detailed analysis of individual layers of the literary texts.

Passionate visions of the American South: self-taught artists from 1940 to the present: an Arts Administration internship at the New Orleans Museum of Art

Mwendo, Nilima Z. 01 December 1995 (has links)
This paper demonstrates the overall success of bringing non-traditional audiences to a New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) exhibition, "Passionate Visions of the American South: Self-Taught Artists from 1940 to the Present." It also highlights the success of some of its public programs. However, the process of attracting these audiences to the museum falls short in its attempts at developing long-term relationships with NOMA. The first chapter provides historical background on NOMA and offers an overview of the "Passionate Visions" project. Chapter Two describes, in relative detail, the project's community outreach component and implementation of its public programs. It closes with an analysis of short range and long term impacts. The final chapter further analyzes the project experience, inclusive of the management style of the project director, issues surrounding conflict of interest and ethics, and the degree of NOMA's commitment, or lack thereof, to long-term non-traditional audience inclusiveness.

Situating Nukain Mabuza's rock garden: a study of a landscape dwelling through multiple explanatory frameworks

Cuthbertson, Hazel Claire January 2017 (has links)
A research report submitted to the Faculty of Humanities, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree Master of Arts (History of Art) by coursework and research report March 2017 / In the 1960s and 1970s, farm worker Nukain Mabuza created a painted hillside rock garden on a farm between Barberton and Kaapmuiden, Mpumalanga, South Africa. He transformed his dwellings, and rearranged and painted the surrounding rocks according to a unified scheme of geometric and animal motifs with a carefully selected colour palette. This altered environment went far further aesthetically, and lasted far longer in time, than the signs and scars that might typically result from a farm worker’s dwelling upon the land. His work arguably bears some of the hallmarks of an inhabited ‘total work of art’. I challenge the dominant ‘outsider art’ explanatory framework adopted by JFC Clarke and re-evaluate the fragmentary archive of Mabuza’s life and work. Working from the likelihood that no single context will offer sufficient grounds for situating Nukain Mabuza’s particular creative practice, I assess the relevance of cultural, historical and religious contexts, which might have shaped Nukain Mabuza’s personal vision and contributed to the form of his expressive environment. Nukain Mabuza’s altered landscape has suffered considerable damage – there is no longer any trace of the two dwellings and the stile, and the paintings on the rocks have all but disappeared. My project seeks to contribute to the scholarship on Nukain Mabuza’s work by extending, analysing, interpreting and situating his inhabited painted environment within the worldview of southern African Bantu-speakers, as a unique personal creative expression, and as an expression of the artist’s modernity. / MT2018

Johnny Golightly comes home

Hopkins, Patrick Mark 26 February 2009 (has links)
Abstract Johnny Golightly Comes Home is a nonfiction novel about the writing of two books by Pat Hopkins. In particular it is an account of the author’s often troubled interaction with artist John Anthony Boerma, who once took on the persona of Johnny Golightly after reading Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It is a story about illusion and fantasy in the creation of a work of conceptual art. As the lies are stripped away, so a new character emerges – that of Johnny Gochristly, the messiah sent to take away the parameters of the world. And in this latter-day passion play the unwitting writer has the role of Judas. The accompanying reflexive essay reviews the themes as they appear in the book – especially those of epiphany brought on by trauma, which leads to a divine mission often associated with extreme eccentricity. It concludes with a section on the writing process.

Traduire la littérature brute : le second tapuscrit de Vincenzo Rabito / Translating outsider literature : the second typescript of Vincenzo Rabito

Brignon, Laura 08 December 2017 (has links)
Vincenzo Rabito (1899-1981), an unschooled Sicilian, wrote two immense autobiographical typescriptscovering his extraordinary journey through the 20th century in Italy as a member of the most underprivileged social classes. In his writing, which mixes Sicilian with Italian, words are graphically modelled on pronunciation and separated by punctuation marks. The text strongly echoes oral traditions as the discourse becomes digressive, intertwining life and fantasy. The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the second typescript in the aim of translating it into French. Using the relation to linguistic otherness as the main thread, this research falls into three successive parts. The first one uses the life, language and work of the author in context and develop the idea of ‘Outside Literature’; it analyses the publication process and conditions of reception in Italy and in France as well, as the latter is characterised by its highly normative relation to language. The second part which is dedicated to Rabito’s text, analyses the language of the author, the narrative structure and stylistic devices. Questioning the dichotomies which are at work in translation theory, the last part develops the notion of hybridity and displacement to build the translation of Rabito’s text – a subjective project aiming at achieving a balance between the specificities of the original text and the demand for readability required by any prospect of publication. This thesis ends with the translation of twenty pages extracted from the typescript under scrutiny, as a prelude to its coming publication.
