The research?s main objective was to investigate the female entrepreneurial career in order to understand its motivations under a contemporary career model: the Kaleidoscopic Career Model. Brazil is among the top 10 countries with the highest rates of entrepreneurship in the world, with almost equivalent rates between men and women - the difference is less than 2. Although female entrepreneurship growth has been 16% in the last 10 years compared to male?s 7%, this activity is still strongly associated with male careers. In this context, the specificities of female entrepreneurship may be overshadowed, just as there is a difference between the motivations that lead women and men to open their own businesses. Therefore, the general objective of this research was to verify if there are differences between men and women regarding their motivations for entrepreneurship, according to the parameters of the Kaleidoscopic Career, theoretical model developed based on female career trajectories. To achieve this goal, a narrative review of the literature on the model was carried out, which analyzed 16 articles available in national and international scientific databases on the Kaleidoscopic Career Model, and its relation with female career trajectories. Afterwards, the first empirical study that composes this dissertation has adapted this instrument to Brazilian context within a sample of 272 Brazilian professionals. For the validation, confirmatory factorial analysis has been used, with maximum likelihood estimation method. The final version of the scale presented 19 items, distributed in the predicted factors, with precision values of: Balance (?=.78), Challenge (?=.76) and Authenticity (?=.65). Using this adapted scale, the second empirical study aimed to verify if there is difference between women?s and men?s motivation for opening their own businesses. In addition to the Kaleidoscopic Career Parameter Scale adapted to Brazilian context, a sociodemographic survey and entrepreneurial trajectory and business characteristics questionnaire were used with the respondents. The sample was composed by 416 professionals, in which 54.6% were women and 48.6% were entrepreneurs. Although professionals with their own business had significantly higher averages (M = 3.86) compared to non-entrepreneurs in Challenge parameter [M = 3.53; F (416,1) = 15.15; p <0.001, ?? = 0,4], there was no significant difference between the parameters according to respondent?s sex. Corroborating this result, the main reasons for opening a company - identification of business opportunity, desire for autonomy and work according to personal values - were the most frequently answers among male and female entrepreneurs. By contributing to demystify the idea that the motivations for female entrepreneurship are essentially different from the masculine, we expect results to contribute for a greater awareness and promotion of female entrepreneurship.

Steady State Simulation of Pyrolysis Gases in an Inductively Coupled Plasma Facility

Martin, Nicholas C. 01 January 2017 (has links)
An important step in the more efficient use of PICA (Phenolic Impregnated Carbon Ablator) as a Thermal Protection System (TPS) material for spacecraft is the understanding of its pyrolysis mechanics. The gases released during pyrolysis and their subsequent interaction with the reactive plasma environment is not yet well understood. The surface recession of PICA as it ablates during testing only makes the study and characterization of the chemical reactions more difficult. To this end, a probe has been designed for this study to simulate, in steady state, the pyrolysis gases within the UVM 30kW Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) Torch Facility. This probe, which is an extension of previous work done at UVM, has been used to inject Carbon Dioxide, Hydrogen, and a mixture of the two into pure Argon and dilute Nitrogen, Oxygen, and air plasmas. During testing, spatially resolved, pointwise, line of sight emission measurements were taken in the boundary layer region. These results were then compared to temporally resolved PICA emission data taken in a previous study. After the correct temporal PICA scan was found the data sets closely matched. This indicates that the gas-injection probe is a viable method to simulate pyrolysis in a steady state environment. The key pyrolysis species of CN, NH, OH, Hydrogen Alpha (Hα), and Hydrogen Beta (Hβ) were spatially traced along the stagnation line for the pure Hydrogen and mixture injection cases. These measurements show evidence of spatial relationships between NH and Hα as well as between OH and Hβ. They also show that all of the molecules tend to follow the same general trend spatially. The work done for this study has both reintegrated gas-injection capability into the UVM facility as well as laid the groundwork for future gas-injection testing within the facility. Spatial emission analysis techniques currently being developed at UVM will provide a more resolved picture of the interactions occurring in the boundary layer once completed.

The Importance of Being Funded : A Case Study of the Public Funding, Production, and Style of Pica Pica (1987)

Appelqvist, Tove January 2020 (has links)
Given the 2017 discontinuation of the Swedish Film Agreement and the surrounding debate on the rationales of film policy, this thesis will conduct a historical study of a particular instance of Swedish film policy history, thus seeking to contribute to the understanding of the consequences of film policy for the outcome of film. Looking at the relationship between Swedish public broadcasting (SVT) and the Swedish Film Institute (SFI) during the mid-1980’s, this thesis aims to investigate the historical background of the funding and production process that enabled the creation of Pica Pica, a feature documentary film on magpies made by director Mikael Kristersson. By applying Geir Vestheim’s theory of the four instrumental arguments for public support of the arts and through an idea analysis, the thesis will investigate what arguments could be said to be pivotal for the funding and production of Pica Pica. Analyzing policy documents concerning the SFI and SVT, as well as using interviews conducted with the people in decision-making positions at the time, the thesis investigates what rationales and circumstances might be said to have informed the funding and production of Pica Pica. Furthermore, Kristersson’s film will be analyzed in relation to concepts of ecocinema and in relation to its lineage in nature portrayal in Swedish film. Through its investigation of the role of the funding and production circumstances for the stylistic outcome of the film, the thesis seeks to contribute to the understanding of the importance and consequences of film policy and production organization for the outcome of film in current times withal.

Remmach, Mustapha 03 September 2009 (has links)
Light emission is a powerful technique for the characterization of failed integrated circuits. For years, faults have been identified in a static configuration of the device. Just by providing the power supply, abnormal current leakage could be located. With the growing complexity of devices, some fault may appear only in the middle of the test sequence. As a result the evolution of light emission was to use the same detector to acquire the image of a running circuit. A new mode of light emission came became available: PICA or picoseconds IC analysis. With this configuration, photons are collected as a function of time. This technique became mainstream for IC debug and failure analysis to precisely characterize IC. Light emission has also reached dynamic IC requirements through PICA and Single-point PICA also known as TRE. However, light emission and TRE is facing a continuous challenge with technologies shrinkage and its associated power supply voltage drop. To work with recent IC technologies with ultra low VDD voltage, it is necessary to take a different approach, to improve the signal to ratio. Two solutions are presented in this document: A best detection system and TRE and PICA signal processing development.

Frequência de anticorpos anti-Toxocara spp em escolares do município de Fernandópolis- SP, Brasil e análise da contaminação do solo por ovos do parasito / Frequency of anti-Toxocara spp antibody in school children from Fernandópolis-SP, Brazil and analysis of soil contamination by parasite eggs

Cassenote, Alex Jones Flores 20 October 2010 (has links)
It is defined as the human infection by larvae of nematodes, especially Toxocara canis, common intestinal parasite of dogs. The aim of this study was to estimate the frequency of anti-Toxocara spp antibodies, identify risk factors in groups of school children from the city of Fernandópolis/SP and evaluate soil contamination by eggs of this and other geohelminths between 2007 and 2008. It was conducted a cross-sectional study using complex sampling for the assessment of human toxocariasis. The diagnostic method used was the ELISA test for detection of IgG anti-Toxocara spp antibodies. The study of soil contamination was done through evaluation of soil samples from public places, sand boxes of municipal schools and evaluation of dogs stool samples from 10 public places. Two hundred and fifty two children were evaluated in two strata, the first with 120 children (47.6%) from low income families and the second with 132 (52.4%) from high income ones. The overall frequency of antibodies anti-Toxocara spp was 15.4% (39), being 28.3% (34) for the first stratum compared with 3.7% (5) of the second (p <0.000). The exposure to geophagy (exposed: adjusted OR 14.65 - CI 95% = 2.14 to 89.25; very exposed: adjusted OR 19.15 - CI 95%= 2.96 to 123.94), the habit of rising objects up to the mouth (exposed: adjusted OR 9.31 1.63 to 53.03; very exposed: adjusted OR 42.29 - CI 95%= 5.49 to 326.01) and the presence of more than two dogs at home (adjusted OR 21.25 - 1.7 to 264.87) were variables associated with positivity. The habit of washing hands before meals (adjusted OR 0.01 - CI 95% = 0.00 to 0.05) represented an important protective factor. Were evaluated 225 samples of soil: 71% (160) from public places and 29% (65) of municipal schools. It was observed a high contamination of public places with 28.4% (64) being positive, while in school positivity was 1.7% (6). The most frequent parasites eggs found were Toxocara spp 79.6% (47), Trichuris spp 13.5% (8) and Ancylostomatidae 6.4% (4). They were also evaluated 400 fecal samples of dogs and observed a positivity of 23.7% (95). The most frequent parasites observed in positive samples were Ancylostoma simile 74.7% (71) and Toxocara canis 53.6% (51). The anti-Toxocara spp antibodies positivity in school children from Fernandópolis/SP was relatively low. The main factors of risk/protection concern to modifiable issues like geophagy, the habit of rising objects up to the mouth, the existence of more than two dogs at home and the habit of washing hands before meals. The soil of public places of Fernandópolis/SP and feces samples collected from the environment were highly contaminated with zoonotic helminths and represent important source of infection for the population

Disserta??o (Mestrado) ? Thus, this study aimed to characterize 30 kale genotypes from morpho-agronomic traits to estimate the genetic diversity, the importance of those traits for the divergence, the agronomic performance, the genetic parameters and the correlation between the evaluated characteristics. The experiment was conducted at the Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri (UFVJM), using a randomized block design with four replicates consisting of five individuals, evaluating 30 genotypes of kale from 44 features. Genotypes with significant genetic divergence were observed, and the genotypes UFLA-6 and UFVJM -24 were the ones most divergent from the others, however, most genotypes are similar, which shows a narrow genetic base. The petiole length, projection winged proportion, the purple shade of adaxial surface of the primary beam, form of leaf margins, number of leaves, shape of leaf base and diameter of the base of the petiole were the characteristics that stood out for genetic divergence in kale genotypes. There was observed significant genetic variability among genotypes, with a predominance of genetic effects over the environmental ones, indicating the possibility of obtaining representative genetic gains in breeding. The leaf length, leaf width, petiole?s diameter, leaf area, plant height, shoot number and dry weight of the leaves are presented as the most important features in the kale genetic improvement. The commercial genotypes showed distinct characteristics from the other genotypes. It stands for genotype UFLA-11, which appeared between genotypes with biggest leaf size and commercial leaf production.
