O estudo analisa aspectos da comunicação institucional em sites e produtos de empresas brasileiras envolvidas na produção de livros, jornais e revistas, quanto a estratégias de sustentabilidade eventualmente existentes na cadeia de produção desses impressos, desde a fabricação do papel até a operação das gráficas, sobretudo no âmbito dos impactos ambientais. Foram estudadas as possibilidades e os limites das principais estratégias de sustentabilidade ligadas aos impactos ambientais da produção dos livros, jornais e revistas: certificação florestal (FSC e Cerflor/PEFC), certificação de sistema de gestão ambiental (ISO 14001), inventário de gases do efeito estufa e balanço social (ou relatório de sustentabilidade). A comunicação institucional sobre estratégias de sustentabilidade esteve mais presente em empresas do setor de papel e celulose do que nas empresas editoras de livros, jornais e revistas, sugerindo um debate sobre a flexibilidade dos critérios de verificação e certificação das estratégias de sustentabilidade e as eventuais justificativas da adesão e da divulgação, ou não, a essas estratégias. / The study analyses institutional communication aspects on Brazilian enterprises sites and products involved with the production of books, newspapers and magazines, concerning the strategies of sustainability eventually present in the chain of production of these forms, since the manufacture of the paper until the operation of the printing industry, specially what concerns the environmental impacts. We have studied the possibilities and the limits of the main strategies of sustainability attached to the environmental impacts on the production of books, newspapers and magazines: forest certification (FSC and Cerflor/PEFC), environmental management standard certification (ISO 14001), greenhouse gas inventory report and social balance sheet (or sustainability report). The institutional communication about the strategies of sustainability has been more present in the paper and cellulose sector than in books, newspapers and magazines publisher enterprises suggesting a debate about the flexibility criteria on the checking and certification strategies and the eventual justifications of adhesion and spread, or not, of these strategies.

[pt] A dissertação apresenta o trabalho de designers-editores de livros, profissionais que possuem conhecimentos da área do Design e atuam no mercado editorial na função de editor. Evidencia o diferencial que a personagem do designer-editor traz ao contexto atual do mercado editorial e ao campo do Design. Diante das transformações ocorridas no entorno do universo editorial, profissionais da cadeia produtiva do livro e editores têm suas funções desafiadas e novos conhecimento são exigidos. Habilidades voltadas para a busca por inovação, criatividade e gestão da complexidade com que se estrutura o mercado são necessárias. O trabalho teve como objetivo identificar quais os conhecimento adquiridos a partir do DESIGN diferenciam o EDITOR na sua atuação no MERCADO como editor de livros. Para isso, foram estabelecidos os contextos da editoração do Brasil, aspectos históricos e culturais, delimitada a função do editor de livros no mercado contemporâneo e caracterizadas as competências e habilidades que capacitam o designer. A dissertação documenta três experiências editoriais: André Villas-Boas e a 2AB editora; Vitor Barreto e as editoras Novas ideias e 2AB; e Christiano Menezes e a DarkSide books. São analisadas as biografia dos três editores, o histórico de formação das editoras, as linhas editoriais propostas, os catálogos constituídos e as obras representativas editadas. E ao final, delimitadas as influências da experiência em Design sobre o exercício da função editorial. / [en] The dissertation presents the work of designers-book publishers, professionals who have knowledge of Design and act in the book publishing market as a publisher. It seeks to highlight the differential that the designer-book publisher brings to the current context of the book publishing market and the field of Design. Faced with the transformations that have occurred in the surroundings of the publishing world, professionals in the production chain of the book and publishers have their functions challenged and new knowledge is required. Skills aimed at the search for innovation, creativity and management of the complexity with which the market is structured are necessary. The work aims to identify which knowledge acquired from DESIGN differentiates the EDITOR in its work in the MARKET as a book publisher. For this, the research establishes the contexts of Brazilian publishing, historical and cultural aspects, delimits the function of the book publisher in the contemporary market and characterizes skills and abilities that enable the designer. The dissertation documents three editorial experiences: André Villas-Boas and 2AB editora; Vitor Barreto and the Novas Ideias and 2AB editora; and Christiano Menezes and DarkSide books. Then, it analyzes the biographies of the three editors, the history of publishing houses, the editorial lines, the catalogs and representative works. Finally, it delimits the influences of the experience in Design on the exercise of the editorial function.

The present article attempts to analyse the effects of Kiswahili curricula changes in Kenya on Kiswahili authorship and publishing since 1963. The bottomline of the argument is that any changes on the educational curriculum affecting Kiswahili has a corresponding effect on the way Kiswahili authors and publishers behave. The analysis is divided into several periods marked with the various commissions appointed by the government to investigate and make recommendations on education. Based on the foregoing, the paper shows how the authors and ublishers are compelled to adjust their attitude towards Kiswahili in order to keep abreast with the ever-changing millieu – at one time they cherish Kiswahili while discounting it at another. Finally, it is argued that at present there is a lot of good will towards Kiswahili. This can be enhanced if special incentives such as awarding higher entry salaries to applicants for jobs in the civil service who can fluently express themselves in Kiswahili.

Автор приходит к выводу о влиянии деятельности издателя на формирование и развитие радикальных идей в Британии конца XVIII века. / The dissertation explores the figure of the publisher Joseph Johnson (1738-1808), who supported intellectuals throughout his life. His "circle" included the most famous radical authors, such as Thomas Paine, and the most famous English poets, such as W. Wordsworth. The author comes to the conclusion about the influence of the publisher's activities on the formation and development of radical ideas in Britain at the end of the XVIII century.

[pt] Esta dissertação relata uma proposta de identificação e descrição das configurações existentes nos recursos e técnicas empregados na engenharia do papel, enquanto dispositivos narrativos e ilustrativos na construção do livro móvel. O objetivo foi demonstrar as relações de coerência e coesão entre os textos verbais e não verbais aplicados ao livro pop-up. O livro pop-up (livro móvel) permeia e cativa o universo infantojuvenil com suas peculiaridades e multiformas. Os mecanismos da engenharia do papel tornam-se cada vez mais arrojados no intuito de atrair e expandir os potenciais sensoriais e sinestésicos que estimulam a imaginação e intensificam a interação do leitor com a leitura. Como metodolologia foram desenvolvidos estudos sobre as funções da linguagem, sobre coerência e coesão que se estabelecem no design de um livro pop-up. Vinte mil léguas submarinas, de Sam Ita, editado em 2010 pela Publifolha serviu como caso exemplar. Com o entendimento das relações entre o textos literário, ilustrativo e escultórico, foi possível concluir que, aproveitando as magnitudes das esculturas de papel, as bases ilustradas das páginas e os elementos dinâmicos das histórias em quadrinhos para encaminhar a narrativa, possibilitaram que as distintas linguagens se tornam complementares. Dessa forma, os estudos sobre a linguagem verbal e linguagem não verbal são igualmente importantes, visto que a maioria de escritores, designers e engenheiros do papel têm a mesma intenção, colaborar e agregar valor ao livro, seja ele pop-up, picture book, livro brinquedo ou qualquer outra ramificação do livro ilustrado. Na adaptação de Sam Ita a soberania dos pop-ups e a dinâmica criativa dos quadrinhos, aguçam o imaginário e, principalmente, os sentidos sensórios e sinestésicos do leitor. / [en] This dissertation reports a proposal of identification and description of the existing configurations in the resources and techniques used in paper engineering, as narrative and illustrative devices in the construction of the mobile book. The objective was to demonstrate the relations of coherence and cohesion between verbal and non-verbal texts applied to the pop-up book. The pop-up book (mobile book) permeates and captivates the universe of children and youth with their peculiarities and multiforms. The mechanisms of paper engineering become increasingly bold in order to attract and expand the sensory and synesthetic potentials that stimulate the imagination and intensify the reader s interaction with reading. As methodology, studies were developed on the functions of language, on coherence and cohesion that are established in the design of a pop-up book. Twenty thousand leagues underwater, from Sam Ita, published in 2010 by Publifolha served as an exemplary case. With the understanding of the relations between the literary, illustrative and sculptural texts, it was possible to conclude that, taking advantage of the magnitudes of the paper sculptures, the illustrated bases of the pages and the dynamic elements of the comics to guide the narrative, enabled the different languages become complementary. Thus, studies on verbal language and non-verbal language are equally important, since most writers, designers, and paper engineers have the same intention, to collaborate and add value to the book, be it pop-up, picture book, book toy or any other branch of the picture book. In Sam Ita s adaptation of the sovereignty of pop-ups and the creative dynamics of comics, they sharpen the imagination and especially the sensory and synesthetic senses of the reader.

The presentation shows the procedures and the range of inhouse services in the editorial and the peer review process. This diploma thesis presents compiled and edited collection of letters from the czech landscape painter František Kaván (1866-1941), a scholar of Julius Mařák's painting school, to the publisher and gallerist František Topič (1858-1941), the painter Oldřich Blažíček (1887-1953) and the librarian and bibliographer Ladislav Jan Živný (1872-1949). The edition is based on 104 letters kept in the Museum of Czech Literature in Prague and the Archives of the National Gallery in Prague. The correspondence describes a life of the painter from the year 1894 to 1941. The diploma thesis analyses and comments approachable literature and deals with relevant sources of material. Editorial comment summarizes principles and methods applied in this thesis, one part is dedicated to the editor Svatopluk Klír. The main parts are chapters based on commentary of selected passages of 104 edited documents with further relevant information in the apparatus. Fulltext edition of mentioned documents is a part of the appendix. A part of the thesis are indices and list of sources and literature. The main aim of this thesis are two Czech nationwide daily newspapers Hospodářské noviny and Mladá fronta Dnes. This thesis focuses on graphics relaunches which these newspapers passed in years 2009 and 2010. It deals with question, how the graphics changes influenced appearance of these newspapers, their content and the position on the media market. This composition responsibly took the opportunity to show the reader in detail, how these newspapers have changed the look of the headlines, elaboration of photos, colors and other graphics components. Along with it the thesis analyses the content changes, such as stylistics or the way of submitting information. Last but not least it gives the comparison of the earning power of these newspapers, position of their publishers Economia and Mafra as well as interviews with publishers representatives.
