Homoparentalidade: estudo psicanalítico sobre papéis e funções parentais em casais homossexuais com filhos / Homoparenthood - psychoanalytic study on parental roles and homosexual couples with childrenVieira, Ricardo de Souza 15 April 2011 (has links)
Given this new reality increasingly visible, become necessary to review and reconsideration of concepts of motherhood and fatherhood. Thus, this research aims at studying the homoparenthood, examining how parental roles and functions are being shared and regulated by the members of the pair of same-sex couples raising children. To this end, we used the theoretical framework of psychoanalysis in Freud and Lacan. In addition, we sought input from socioanthropological studies on sexuality, from the theoretical articulation of the concepts of homosexuality, traditional and homoparental family, maternal and paternal functions of the psychoanalytic point of view and its difference in relation to the roles (social) parents. Parental role and function categories were chosen for analysis of fragments of speeches by homosexual persons with children, gathered in a socio-anthropological study

Parents' Perceptions of Their Roles and Needs as Related to Their Children's Reading DevelopmentThompson, Barbara Jean 05 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study was that parental perceptions of the roles and needs related to their children's reading development had not been successfully investigated. The primary purpose of this investigation was to determine parental perceptions of their roles, influence, and skills most needed to assist them relating to their children's reading development; the information sources on which parental beliefs about their role are founded; factors foreseen by parents that might hinder their involvement in that role; parents' preferred mode of receiving desired information relative to their assistance in their children's reading development; and existing variations in parental perceptions.

Parental roles towards the creation of health promoting schools / Tshifhiwa Ignetia MashauMashau, Tshifhiwa Ignetia January 2011 (has links)
A call for parents to be involved in the education of their children is not a modern phenomenon at all. It is increasingly a call which invites parents to be involved in every sphere of their children‟s lives, including their health. Children of South Africa, like many other children in Africa, are engulfed with health issues. These problems range from drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, obesity, violence, suicide, alcohol, etc. Therefore, it is crucial to engage parents in an effort to promote the health of their children in school and together with schools.
Various parental roles were established during the early part of the century when parents were obliged to raise their children according to the set standard. As time went by, schools clearly drew a line to distinguish their role from parents‟ roles. Later on a need for parental involvement in schools arose again and a call for parents to attend to their obligations was a necessity, although parents were seen as problems by teachers. This allowed a space for barriers to grow between parents and teachers to such an extent that there was no collaboration in addressing problems affecting children in schools.
To investigate the issue of parental roles and health promotion in schools thoroughly, qualitative measures were applied. The analysis indicated that there is indeed a great need for parents to be involved in promoting the health of their children in schools. However, a lack of knowledge amongst parents and a lack of skills to work with parents amongst teachers hamper the possibility of preventing most of the health issues affecting many children of South Africa.
Indeed parental participation in schools and health promoting schools can yield positive results not only for the children, but for the schools and parents as well. Therefore, the government must employ practical strategies to involve parents in promoting the health of children in schools. / Thesis (M.Ed.)--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2011

Previous issue date: 2013-02-20 / Profound changes have occurred in the familiar composition, forming then, new family configurations, but none of these news models is so controversial like the homoparental model. In our country this new model has caused prejudices and questions about the ability to provide a family beyond the traditional standards and be able to develop healthy people. This work aims to investigate the collective imagination of the Psychology students about the gay parenting, since Homoparenthood challenges the psychologist whose theoretical and methodological assumptions has proved inadequate to meet the demands of contemporary parenting. We emphasize the relevance of research about the imaginary, because it guides social and professional behaviors, creation of the public policies and laws for the society in general. The use of Interactive Narratives, inserted in a psychoanalytic and qualitative research proposal, aims to restore the dialogue on research, inviting participants to complete a short fictional story previously prepared by researcher. This proceeding is intended to facilitate the associative movement of these participants and identifies the fields of affective-emotional meaning that are the laws governing the production of them. The four fields of meaning fund communicate affective-emocional prejudice against homosexuals and their supposed healing through love, the issue of normalization of the conduct and your perverse effect on clinical, the desire to have children in contemporary times and the role of psychologists meet the demands of happiness and rapid relief of suffering. We hope that this study contributes to a social debate about the Homoparenthood and also the homosexual issue which is implicit and resumes the problem of prejudice in our society.

[en] RIVERS WITHOUT SPEECH: SOME REFLECTION ON CHILD AGGRESSIVENESS IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY / [pt] RIOS SEM DISCURSO: REFLEXÕES SOBRE A AGRESSIVIDADE DA INFÂNCIA NA CONTEMPORANEIDADEMARIA VITORIA CAMPOS MAMEDE MAIA 18 April 2005 (has links)
contemporaneidade. Em um primeiro momento estudou-se como
Winnicott conceitua e entende a agressividade. A partir
articulando o olhar winnicottiano e o cenário
contemporâneo, estudou-se quais os aspectos contextuais que
atualmente acarretam o aumento de comportamentos anti-
sociais.
[en] The present thesis examines child aggressiveness in
contemporary society. Starting with Winnicott s
conceptualization of aggression, it investigates a specific
concept, the anti-social tendencies, and how it can be
useful in our understanding about the children
aggressiveness. This thesis investigates also some
contextual aspects of contemporary society responsible for
today s increase in antisocial behavior. Decline of
parental roles and childhood eclipse are signed as some of
these aspects. It is assumed that children s anti-social
behaviors constitute survival strategies in a world with
moving boundaries and unstable rules. The thesis argues
that anti-social acts manifest a failure of the social
pact, which in turn results in a failure of the primordial
Oedipal pact. It also argues that antisocial acts are a
communication in an incommunicable world.

Parental Portrayals in Children's Literature: 1900-2000DeWitt, Amy L. 08 1900 (has links)
The portrayals of mothers and fathers in children's literature as companions, disciplinarians, caregivers, nurturers, and providers were documented in this research. The impact of time of publication, sex of author, award-winning status of book, best-selling status of book, race of characters, and sex of characters upon each of the five parental roles was assessed using descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation, and multinomial logistic regression techniques. A survey instrument developed for this study was completed for each of the 300 books randomly selected from the list of easy/picture books in the Children's Catalog (H.W. Wilson Company, 2001). To ensure all time periods were represented, the list was stratified by decades before sampling. It was expected that parental role portrayals would become more egalitarian and less traditional in each successive time period of publication. Male authors were expected to portray more egalitarian parental roles, and the race and sex of the young characters were not expected to influence parental portrayals. Award-winning books were expected to represent more egalitarian parental roles. Books that achieved the Publisher's Weekly all-time best-selling status were expected to portray parents in less egalitarian roles. Secondary analyses explored the prevalence of mothers' occupations, parental incompetence, and dangerous, solo child adventures. While the time of publication affected role portrayals, the evidence was unclear as to whether the changing roles represented greater egalitarianism. The race and the sex of the young characters significantly affected parental role portrayals, but the sex of the author did not influence these portrayals. While award winning and bestselling texts portrayed parents differently than books that did not achieve such honors, most did not provide enough information to adequately assess parenting roles. Half of the mothers who worked in the texts worked in conjunction with their husbands rather than independent of them. Over 10 % of mothers and fathers acted incompetently. The time of publication and the sex of the author was associated with the prevalence of solo, dangerous, child adventures. Subsequent implications and recommendations suggest the inclusion of stronger parental characters in children's books. Many of the parents are portrayed as inactive, incompetent, or neglectful. The concern is that children are exposed to these picture book portrayals during the primary years of identity acquisition.
