Communication security is a very important part of modern life. A crucial aspect of security is the ability to identify with near 100% certainty who is on the other side of a connection. This problem can be overcome through the use of random number generators, which create unique identities for each person in a network. The effectiveness of an identity is directly proportional to how random a generator is. The speed at which a random number can be delivered is a critical factor in the design of a random number generator. This thesis covers the design and fabrication of three ring oscillator based truly random number generators, the first two of which were fabricated in 0.13µ m CMOS technology. The randomness from this type of random number generator originates from phase noise in a ring oscillator. The second and third ring oscillators were designed to have a low slew rate at the inverter switching threshold. The outputs of these designs showed vast increases in timing jitter compared to the first design. The third design exhibited improved randomness with respect to the second design.

This essay deals with a cultic building which focuses on the stone feature during the Bronze Age in Sweden and Denmark. I will discuss about the meaning of the stone feature and it also deals with the surrounding next to the building in order to see a bigger perspective. It consists of five excavations which this essay is based upon. The five excavations are Sandergård in Denmark, Broby and Hågahagen in Uppland, Tofta and Koarum in Skåne.

This thesis discusses South Scandinavian cup marks in general, and cup marks in Kronobergs County in particular. The question is whether the cup mark phenomena can be viewed as an ordinary family-based cult for a kind of everyday use, or more likely as a community passage ritual. The thesis also suggests that cup marks were made by ritual participants in, or in the process of trying to reach, an altered state of consciousness.

The aim of this essay is to see if there are any relationship between the four Megalithic graves, and the newly excavated dwelling site in Resmo socken on Öland. The Megalithic graves on Öland consist of one dolmen and three passage graves. Is the excavated site a settlement? Since there are no signs of housing constructions, I will also explore other possible purposes of the site. What surprised the excavators was the concentration of pits that contained ceramics, flints and burned bones. To find out about Resmo´s relation to megaliths, settlements and the landscape, I will look at the Neolithic settlement sites of the Funnel Beaker Culture and where in the landscape we find these in relation to the Megalithic graves. I will also give an overview of the Megalithic graves in Skåne, and Falbygden in Västergötland.

In this essay I refer Eilis Ni Dhuibhne’s narrative construction of the main characters and the theme of the novel The Dancers Dancing, in the context of the anthropologist Victor Turner’s concept of liminality. Thus the summer in the Gaeltacht that five teenage girls experience, can be understood as a depiction of the liminal phase in a rite of passage. Ni Dhuibhne’s differently constructed characters enlighten different aspects of liminality and through the céilí dance their experiences are exposed. Furthermore this essay suggests that Julia Kristeva’s notion of the chora, which can be associated to dance, is also relevant when describing the unbounded and unlimited process that radically can reform social structures. I conclude that the liminal space offers an area of many possibilities. It functions as a free zone where the main characters can freely explore their personal issues that trouble them, or the difficulties of their own society.

Cette recherche a pour lieu la prison, pour objet l'acte. Contiguë aux espaces sociaux, la prison est investie d'un certain secret. Cependant, ceux qui y sont incarcérés supportent l'espace qui les enferme avec difficulté, dans la mesure où ce lieu, qui les sanctionne, ne leur permet pas d'approcher un acte où fuit le sens. L'acte qui les conduit dans ce lieu les identifie, plus qu'il ne vient interroger la « mise en acte ». Celle-ci, profondément énigmatique, est rarement questionnée. La procédure judiciaire fige les comportements dans un ordonnancement qui convient peu à l'éclaircissement d'actes qui inhibent le sens. A partir de situations cliniques, nous avons tenté d'instruire l'acte, singularisant la place que doit occuper le psychologue, orienté par la psychanalyse, dans le travail singulier qu'il entretient avec les détenus. Loin de geler le sens, il s'agit d'articuler les énoncés aux contradictions qui les constituent, de laisser apparaître, sous les discours convenus, une parole avortée ; celle qui confine à l'innommable. Pris à la lettre, la pointe signifiante de l¤acte, se découvre moins indicible qu'il n'y paraît et laisse entrevoir des espaces insoupçonnés.

Nous avons mesuré la durée de vie de l'etat supraconducteur d'une jonction Josephson<br />polarisée en courant et shuntée par un circuit microonde se comportant comme une ligne à echos electromagnetiques. En faisant varier in situ la longueur de cette ligne, nous pouvons ajuster le temps d'aller-retour de ces echos. A basse température (T=20mK), la jonction transite hors de l'état supraconducteur par effet tunnel quantique macroscopique. Nous montrons que cet effet tunnel est fortement attenué si le temps d'aller-retour des<br />échos est inférieur à un nouveau temps caractéristique de l'effet tunnel, différent du temps de vie. Nous interprétons ce nouveau temps caracteristique comme le temps moyen passé par la particule sous la barrière de potentiel lors de sa sortie du puits. A plus haute<br />température (T=1K), la jonction transite hors de l'état supraconducteur par activation thermique. Dans ce regime, le taux de sortie varie de façon oscillatoire en fonction de la longueur de la ligne. Nous interprétons ce phenomène comme la manifestation des oscillations<br />effectuées par la différence de phase de la jonction dans l'état supraconducteur juste avant la transition vers l'état dissipatif, ces oscillations etant entretenues par les fluctuations thermiques.

La première partie de cette thèse est consacrée à l'élaboration théorique de<br />processus adiabatiques permettant l'implémentation de portes logiques<br />quantiques, les constituants élémentaires des ordinateurs quantiques, par<br />l'interaction de champs laser impulsionnels avec des atomes. L'utilisation de<br />techniques adiabatiques permet des implémentations robustes, i.e. insensibles<br />aux fluctuations des paramètres expérimentaux. Les processus décrits dans cette<br />thèse ne nécessitent que le contrôle précis des polarisations et des phases<br />relatives des champs lasers. Ces processus permettent l'implémentation d'un<br />ensemble universel de portes quantiques, autorisant l'implémentation de toute<br />autre porte quantique par combinaisons.<br />La seconde partie de cette thèse concerne les effets de la décohérence par<br />déphasage sur le passage adiabatique. La formule de probabilité de transition<br />d'un système à deux niveaux tenant compte de ces effets décohérents est établie.<br />Cette formule est valable dans les différents régimes, diabatique et<br />adiabatique, et permet d'établir les paramètres de trajectoires elliptiques<br />optimisant le transfert de population.
