Nejstarší překlady Jana Nepomuka Štěpánka / The earliest translations of Jan Nepomuk Štěpánek

Kuncová, Simona January 2017 (has links)
This thesis investigates early translation activities of Czech versatile theatre artist Jan Nepomuk Štěpánek. Štěpánek began to translate theatre plays in 1803. The first part of the thesis looks at the personality of Jan Nepomuk Štěpánek in general, theatre context of his translated plays and a translation method in the time of the Czech National Revival. The most important part of the thesis consists of the introduction of five earliest plays, which Štěpánek translated in 1803-1806. His texts are compared with German original texts. On the basis of this comparation, Štěpánek is introduced as a translator and also then theatre practice is partly clarified.

The Woman's Relief Corps: "Missionaries of the Flag," 1893-1918

Schulze, Stephanie Marie January 2016 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Patriotic education began when the Woman’s Relief Corps was established. The earliest patriotic education was done on Memorial Day rather than on a daily basis in the schoolroom. The WRC’s plan for patriotic education went into full gear in 1893. The history of the Woman’s Relief Corps and the implementation of patriotic education is a fascinating one that shows how a conservative organization of women implemented a regimented daily routine that today shows more about the women and their beliefs than one might expect. As time passed after the Civil War, more and more Union veterans died leaving the legacy to keep the memory of the War alive to the WRC. Patriotic education provided a perfect avenue to keep that memory alive as well as to inculcate the students with patriotism and how to be good citizens. As patriotic education evolved and grew, there was a pattern of changing rhetoric among educators and the WRC. This is visible when one looks at the discussions amongst the members of the WRC during and immediately after a war. Generally, during a war, the women of the WRC would step back into a supportive role of American military and then immediately after a war would take advantage of the patriotic fervor to further expand patriotic education.

Collective Action And Group Attachment: Interplay Of Free-riding Behaviour And Patriotism

Kislioglu, Resit 01 September 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Conflict between self-interest and group-interest constitute a challenge for the individuals and the groups. The conflict should be resolved for a healthy maintenance of collective action / otherwise the free-rider problem is a likely result. This thesis is about the individual motivation loss -psychological aspect of free-rider problem- and its relation to group attachment &ndash / patriotism-. Free-riding is proposed to be related to patriotism / and guilt, shame and pride emotions. Experimental manipulations include an announcement and confederate condition. Patriotism is analysed within the framework of constructive and blind patriotism. An experiment &ndash / public goods game- measuring free-riding behaviour was conducted for the study. A total of 192 participants took a part in the experiment (98 females and 85 males). Free-riding was found to be negatively related to constructive patriotism / but no significant relation to blind patriotism was found. A look at the concept and development of &ldquo / individual&rdquo / and social capital theory is provided in order to help conceptualise the problem. Results and possible implications of the empirical findings are discussed. Implications are also discussed in a politically and culturally relevant way to Turkey.

Surviving total war in Kherson Region, Ukraine in 1941 - 1945

Alexander, Vladyslav Christian 25 November 2013 (has links)
While there are plenty of published materials concerning survival in Ukraine during World War II, most of those bypass the Kherson region and focus primarily on the German occupation. This thesis is an attempt to study the complex history of people's survival in Ukraine during a large portion of the twentieth century, through a micro-history of the city of Kherson and the neighboring villages, and towns of the region. The study analyzes the actions and the consequences for the various social, political and ethnic groups of changes in the ruling regimes, emphasizing the period of the return of the Red Army to the region in 1943-1944. This work attempts to provide an answer to the question of why the population of a provincial city, which endured no major combat, was reduced from about 100,000 residents in 1941 to less than a hundred on the day of return of the Soviets in 1944? / text

Salvi, Greta 12 June 2013 (has links)
In the Triennium 1796-1799 took place the short life of the Cisalpine Republic, one of the political units founded by Napoleon Bonaparte during the Italian Campaign. This work studies the theatrical culture and the performing aspects which characterized the Cisalpine Republic and particularly its capital, Milan, in that historical juncture. The thesis asserted here is about the use of performing practices as an instrument of popular education and spreading of the principles of the 1789 Revolution. This aim was pursued by both French authorities and Italian pro-Revolution patriots. This work tackles three main points: the architectural and urban changes which affected Milan during the Triennio (Triennium), the theory and practice of theatre, the public celebrations. The cultural relations between Italy and France have been investigated with special attention. This study is based on some documents kept in archives and libraries of Milan and Paris, such as printed editions of theatrical plays, records of celebrations, correspondence and periodicals from the age of the Cisalpine Republic.
