共榮的想像:帝國日本與大東亞文學圈(1937-1945) / Imagining Co-Prosperity:Imperial Japan and the Literary Sphere of Great East Asia,1937-1945

本論文以1937年至1945年「中日戰爭」、「大東亞戰爭」時期為座標,透過考察大東亞共榮圈下的東亞經驗、記憶、文化與歷史的交錯問題。並試圖以宏觀的角度來檢視日本與亞洲各國的關係,從「跨界」的視域進行東亞文學與文藝體制之研究討論,探討關於日本的大東亞共榮圈之建構概念及其欲型塑的東亞文學觀,與大東亞共榮圈各地域對於此文學建構所衍伸出的知識、權力、文化關係的接受與質變。從日本因應戰爭的動員過程以及帝國主義思潮的發展脈絡中,可以窺見透過國家機器的運作模式,日本企圖在內地、殖民地及各佔領區中塑造「共同體」之想像,並欲透過此「共同體」的想像型塑出「大東亞共榮圈」的東亞一體之翼贊結構。另一方面,大東亞共榮圈中的各地域對於此「共榮想像」也各有不同的對應態勢,從中可以觀看出大東亞文學圈中的文學者們認同的游移,同時對於大東亞議題在不同的統治模式下所衍生出的不同之「協力」圖像。 本論文是以日本的帝國主義發展之脈絡為東亞文學圈的論述中心,並擇取大東亞共榮圈下的五個漢字使用地域為個案討論對象,包括了殖民地:台灣、朝鮮、傀儡政權:滿洲國、中國(華北、華中),以此討論日本文學共榮的表象與實際,以及東亞地區在大東亞想像下的文學樣貌。大東亞的文藝運動可以說是日本國家主義發展的衍生,包括文學者統合團體的誕生、筆部隊的派遣、報國文學的創作乃至於徵用作家的紀行報導,全都受到國家機器的操弄。「八紘一宇」支撐了日本的國體論述,在各個地域中並以日語教育取代血緣的系聯,欲藉由語言型構出「東亞民族」的一體性,同時透過各地域的日本文學者之創作,也顯現了此大東亞的視野,透過戰爭文學、勤勞文學、增產文學、國民文學各種文學書寫模式與文學生產過程,日本文學者們也從不同角度展現出帝國想像。此外,透過統合文學者的文學報國會之串連,也建構了大東亞文學圈的文學者們的「交流」系譜,各地域的文學者也在此文學場域中各自展開「文學共榮」的命題。 / This dissertation examines the entanglement of memory, history and cultural experience within the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere during the Second Sino-Japanese War or Greater East Asia War between 1937 and 1945. From a comprehensive perspective of boundary crossing, this dissertation intends to study the conceptualization and formation of a unified East Asian literary ideal and its literary and cultural institutions by examining the discourse of a Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere in the context of Japanese Imperialism. It further explores the reception and transformation of knowledge, power, and cultural struggles shaped by this literary construction within the cultural sphere. Through the observation of the process of wartime mobilization and the development of imperial ideology, this dissertation reveals that the Japanese Empire intended to implant the image of an imagined community in Japan, the Japanese colonies, and occupied areas. By enlisting this imagined community, the Japanese Imperial would forge a cooperative institution, the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, within which “Asia is One.” On the other hand, intellectuals in different parts of Japanese East Asia adopted different positions in response to the imposition of this imagined Co-Prosperity Sphere. By scrutinizing their responses, we will discern these writers’ shifting positions and diverse strategies of “collaboration” under different types of rule and across various regions. The dissertation traces the progress of Japanese Imperialism as the discursive center of the East Asia Literary Sphere. Five regions from the Chinese character-using portions of the empire were chosen as case studies: Japanese colonies such as Taiwan, Korea, as well as puppet regimes like those in Manchukuo, and occupied North and Central China. By surveying the literary performances in these East Asian regions that were under the influenced of the discourse of Great East Asia, we could get past the surface and scrutinize the reality of the ideology of the Japanese Literary Co-Prosperity Sphere. The Greater East Asian Literary Movement was a byproduct of the development of Japanese nationalism. All literary activities were manipulated by the Japanese state apparatus, including the establishment of writers’ alliance, the dispatching of the Pen Writers’ Brigade, the writing of Patriotic Literature, as well as the reportage from Conscript Writers. The discourse of Hakkō ichiu (All the world under one roof) became the core of Japanese national ideology. Japanese became the sole language taught in schools throughout the Japanese empire in an attempt to replace ties of blood and ethnicity with a linguistic affiliation. Through this linguistiunity, Imperial Japan fostered the unity of an “East Asian ethnicity.” Writing in diverse genres such as War Literature, Labor Literature, Increasing Production Literature and National Literature, Japanese writers in different parts of East Asia manifested the imperialist dream of a Greater East Asia. Moreover, through the establishment of organizations such as the Association of Literary Patriotism, writers in the Greater East Asia Literary Sphere gained a legitimate channel to communicate and exchange their ideas on literature. In other words, East Asian writers constructed and developed their own discourses of “Literary Co-Prosperity” within this context.

Jewish folksongs in the Palestinian period : building a nation

The psyche of an entire people underwent a paradigm shift during the Palestinian Period (1920-1948). Jews took a spiritual quantum leap; they left the despair of the 'wastelands' of the Diaspora and journeyed towards the Promised Land. The quest of these pioneers was to rebuild their ancestral homeland. When the pioneering Halutzim encountered the ancestral soil of their Motherland, deep impulses were revealed. Their folksongs - an important component of folklore and mythology - reflected this inner dimension of their being and of their experiences in Eretz Israel by means of archetypal transformations. Initially, an idealistic devotion to reconstruction and intimate reverence for the Land was reflected. However, in the 1930s and 1940s, opposition to Jewish settlement transformed folksongs so they became increasingly militant, reflecting a movement towards extroversion in the Jewish psyche which was consolidated in 1948. / Music / Thesis (M.A.)--University of South Africa, 1997.

Since the object of study of this dissertation is the Instituto de Humanidades, the primary source which made possible the analysis of the studied school’s work and also the analysis of the school culture that backboned its pedagogical practices, was the “Revista Escolar”, periodical that was part of the Insituto de Humanidades itself ant that was devised and edited by the Principal Joaquim da Costa Nogueira. The primary sources of this study were found in the “Instituto Histórico e Geográfico do Ceará”, in the rare book sector of the “Biblioteca Pública Governador Menexes Pimentel” and in the “Academia Cearense de Letras”. We must point that the iconographical material were traced in the “Museu da Imagem e do Som do Ceará”. Since the writing process of this work encompasses that of a cronical history, we have adopted Barbara Tuchman as reference, mainly from her work – “The historical practice”. Concerning the study of the history of the school institutions and those on School culture we have based our work in the texts of Justino Pereira de Magalhães, Rosa Fátima de Souza, Vera Teresa Valdemarin and Franco Cambi. In the lines of this dissertation we may realize that the “Instituto de Hmanidades”, being a private institution, educated students from the highest economical, political and intelectual class level, offering them an education based on the method of intuitive teaching and on patriotic values that were present in the republican imagination at that time. / Esta dissertação apresenta a construção da história crônica do Instituto de Humanidades, educandário particular, sediado em Fortaleza – Ceará, durante sua fase de funcionamento: de 1904 à 1914, ou seja, no contexto da belle époque. Sendo o Instituto de Humanidades objeto de estudo dessa dissertação, a fonte primária que possibilitou a visualização de seu funcionamento e cultura escolar que norteava suas práticas pedagógicas foi a Revista Escolar, órgão do educandário que foi idealizada e editada pelo professor Joaquim da Costa Nogueira. As fontes primárias para este estudo foram localizadas no Instituto Histórico, Geográfico e Antropológico do Ceará, setor de obras raras da Biblioteca Pública Governador Menezes Pimentel e Academia Cearense de Letras. Frisamos ainda, que as iconografias que constam na dissertação foram rastreadas no Museu da Imagem e do Som no Ceará. Sendo a escrita dessa dissertação uma história crônica, tomamos por referência Bárbara Tuchman, com sua obra intitulada, A Prática da História. Nas leituras a respeito da História das Instituições Escolares e Cultura Escolar tomamos por base as considerações de Justino Pereira de Magalhães, Rosa Fátima de Souza, Vera Teresa Valdemarin e Franco Cambi. Nas linhas tecidas nesta dissertação percebemos que o Instituto de Humanidades, sendo um educandário particular atendia alunos oriundos da elite econômica, política e intelectual cearense, ofertando-lhes uma formação pautada pelo método de ensino intuitivo e valores cívicos-patriótico presentes no imaginário republicano vigente.

Loin d’avoir provoqué l’indifférence des Espagnols, l’Amérique hispanique a attiré le regard péninsulaire au lendemain des indépendances américaines et encouragé une production littéraire et iconographique continue depuis le début de l’ère isabelline jusqu’aux premiers temps de la Restauration. Constitué de près de 300 œuvres dramatiques, romanesques etplastiques, le corpus réuni et analysé dans le cadre de cette thèse montre qu’une production littéraire et artistique sur l’Amérique hispanique traverse bien le XIXe siècle péninsulaire. Afin d’en dégager les caractéristiques et l’impact sur l’imaginaire collectif espagnol, nous avons mis en lumière les spécificités des modes de production et de diffusion de chacun des supports artistiques. Cette production, fortement conditionnée par les moules artistiques préétablis, a favorisé la construction d’une imagerie américaine collective, notamment à travers la cristallisation d’images type qui circulent entre les différents supports. Dès lors, si les oeuvres elles-mêmes sont pour la plupart tombées dans l’oubli, elles demeurent néanmoins le reflet du regard porté par les Espagnols sur le continent à une période charnière des relations entre l’Espagne et l’Amérique hispanique. / Far from leaving the Spaniards indifferent, Hispanic America has drawn Spanish attention after its independence and fostered a continuous literary and iconographic production since the beginning of the era isabellina to the early days of the Restoration. Consisting of nearly 300 plays, novels, paintings and sculptures, the corpus collected and analyzed in this thesis shows the existence of an actual literary and artistic production about Hispanic America through the nineteenth century in Spain. In order to identify its characteristics and its impact on the social imaginary of Spain, we have highlighted the specific modes of production and distribution of each artistic media. This production, heavily influenced by preexisting artistic standards, has favored the construction of a collective American imagery, particularly through the crystallization of images that circulate between the different media. Therefore, although most of these works have sunk into oblivion, they remain a reflection of the way the Spaniards looked at the continent and of the need to redefine and legitimize the relationship between Spain and the young American republics.

World War II remains to this day the great determining historical event for the collective memory of the Russian people. This fact is illustrated in the omnipresent memorialization of the war, as well as in the transmission and performance of the “Victory in War” myth. Symbols of memory are experiencing a revival, as can be seen in the creation of new memorials, documentaries, concerts, literary texts and video clips, as well as in consumer goods and advertising. A recent example of this can be seen in how the Battle of Stalingrad is memorialized, and the memory production surrounding the Great Patriotic War of 1812. This article presents the different memory types used by the Russian state to remember the war. The focus of this analysis is on the linguistic tools used to evaluate and normalize the war.

This thesis represents a comprehensive analysis of the geographical and geopolitical position of the Kurdistan regional government (KRG) as an official political institution of the Kurdistan region of Iraq (KRI). Firstly, it focuses on the internal issues of this institution and its division between two main Iraqi Kurdish political parties: KDP and PUK. Secondly, it examines the form of the relationships between the KRG and central government in Baghdad. The regional position of the KRG is explained by capturing the relationships among the KRG, the governments of the key regional countries (Turkey, Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Israel) and important Kurdish political parties operating in this area (PKK, PYD, PJAK, HDP, ENKS and KDPI). Thirdly, the global actors (United States of America, Russian Federation and China) and their position towards the Iraqi Kurds, is also included. And finally, this thesis deals with the problematics of the Kurdish referendum of independence in 2017 and the role of ISIS as an "game changing" actor in the regional dynamics. In the theoretical part, the features of the role of youth organizations in the prevention of extremism in the youth environment are presented: basic concepts, theoretical approaches, interethnic relations in the youth environment are analyzed: basic concepts and ways of their harmonization through youth organizations. The practical part describes the development of a program for the prevention of extremism and the harmonization of interethnic relations with the involvement of the potential of youth organizations of the North Ural city district, outlines the specifics of the implementation and analysis of the program for the prevention of extremism and the harmonization of interethnic relations in the institution for youth work on the example of the Municipal state Institution "Association of Youth and Adolescent clubs of the North Ural City District. In conclusion, the results are summed up in accordance with the tasks set. The purpose of the study is to develop a program for the prevention of extremism and the harmonization of interethnic relations with the involvement of the potential of youth organizations of the North Ural City District of the Sverdlovsk region.
