Bragner, Johan, Wasing, Malin January 2016 (has links)
IT projects often fail because they are late and more expensive than planned, and in many cases it is the time factor that is limiting for projects. There exist many different programming languages and the need to share structures between them. Applications within the same system often uses different terminology and the need for conversions occurs. Standardized languages such as XML exist but when organizations choose to create their own syntax for formatting publications instead a resistance can be distinguished. The paper can be used as basis for further research in the area of programming languages. This research focuses on comparing if the choice of syntax affects expenditure of time when marking document. The selected research strategy is experiment. A pilot study has been done and based on the results of the study a hypothesis testing (t-test) was made. The analysis of the results indicated that the use of optional syntax implied that less time was spent at marking document than the use of XML. The conclusion from this was that this area should be further explored and that the study should be done on a larger scale.

An Experimental Study to Improve the Casting Performance of Steel Grades Sensitive for Clogging

Svensson, Jennie January 2017 (has links)
In this study, the goal is to optimize the process and to reduce the clogging tendency during the continuous casting process. The focus is on clogging when the refractory base material (RBM) in the SEN is in contact with the liquid steel. It is difficult or impossible to avoid non-metallic inclusions in the liquid steel, but by a selection of a good RBM in the SEN clogging can be reduced.   Different process steps were evaluated during the casting process in order to reduce the clogging tendency. First, the preheating of the SEN was studied. The results showed that the SEN can be decarburized during the preheating process. In addition, decarburization of SEN causes a larger risk for clogging. Two types of plasma coatings were implemented to protect the RBM, to prevent reactions with the RBM, and to reduce the clogging tendency. Calcium titanate (CaTiO3) mixed with yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) plasma coatings were tested in laboratory and pilot plant trials, for casting of aluminium-killed low-carbon steels. For casting of cerium alloyed stainless steels, YSZ plasma coatings were tested in laboratory, pilot plant and industrial trials. The results showed that the clogging tendency was reduced when implementing both coating materials.   It is also of importance to produce clean steel in order to reduce clogging. Therefore, the steel cleanliness in the tundish was studied experimentally. The result showed that inclusions originated from the slag, deoxidation products and tundish refractory and that they were present in the tundish as well as in the final steel product. / <p>QC 20170227</p> / VINNOVA

Modélisation et commande robuste d'une aile de kite en vol dynamique : application à la traction d'un navire / Modeling and robust control of a tethered kite in dynamic flight

Cadalen, Baptiste 14 September 2018 (has links)
The need in reducing the CO_2 emissions and the increase of oil prices affect all transportation industries and especially the maritime industry. This has led to the search for more energy-saving ship propulsion systems. Taking advantage of wind energy by using tethered wings, or kites, as an alternative propulsion source can be an effective solution. The "beyond the sea" project, led by Yves Parlier, aims to provide ships an alternative green energy source. In most wind conditions, compared to a static flight, a dynamic motion of a tethered wing with an eight-shaped pattern can provide sufficient force through traction to tow a ship. Therefore, the main objective of this study is the modeling and robust control of a tethered kite in dynamic flight. To this end, a point mass model is first used to describe the kite dynamics. The model parameters are estimated from experimental data and the aerodynamic coefficients are identified using data from a quasi-static flight. Open loop simulations are conducted to verify the kite behavior and the overall coherence of the model. To ensure a dynamic flight, an eight-shaped trajectory is defined within the wind window. Its position, size, orientation and direction are all adjustable parameters. A path-following strategy is then developed in order to design a robust control law including the kite model. This allows the system to be used in different trajectories with a wide range of wind speeds. Closed-loop simulations are presented to show the efficiency of the path-following algorithm, and the various theoretical performances obtained shows the efficiency of a kite dedicated to vessels auxiliary propulsion.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Elaine Carvalho da Paz.pdf: 5913998 bytes, checksum: 3abfb310351a148f2f4495951bcca8d2 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-05-25 / The present study evaluates the iron removal efficiency (Fe), manganese (Mn), apparent color and turbidity, using adsorptive filtration compared with conventional filtration, using a natural Zeolite as layer second material in a pilot unit with constructive and operational typology similar to the rapid downward filter, gravity and double layer. As adsorbent material was selected Zeolite WATERCELL-ZF-0410®, commercially available Clinoptilotite from Cuba, for having physical characteristics similar to the anthracite coal. Morphological characterization assays were performed (FEG-SEM) and elemental (EDS), physical characteristics (particle size, density, effective size and uniformity coefficient), lixiviation and filtration on a pilot scale. Morphological characterization analysis, it was found that the zeolite under consideration has a high adsorption capacity, prone to adsorption iron, manganese and sulfur in the upper range anthracite coal. The physical characterization analysis, it was verified that this Zeolite is a uniform material and graduated, has physical similarity to the coal and anthracite can be used as filtering material of the layer second. Leaching analysis showed that, possibly, there will be no release above the maximum value allowed in CONAMA Resolution n. ° 357/2005, metals detected in the leached extract for a backwashing of filter using this material as media filter, as well as probably not occur detachment of these metals in the final disposal of this waste system. The filtration analysis on a pilot scale concluded that designing a filter with downward filtration, with depth action and double layer using the Zeolite WATERCEL-ZF-0410 on the layer second, is viable. The conception of treatment proposed, in the conditions, parameters and settings studied, has average efficiency: 100.00% for the removal of manganese; 96.17% for the removal of iron; 99.90% for the removal of apparent color; and 98.96% for the removal of turbidity.

Maerrawi, Ilham El 21 August 2009 (has links)
Introduction: Confined populations are exposed to circumstances that increase their vulnerability to sexually transmitted infections. HIV, hepatitis B and C, and syphilis, encounter at the prison system an environment favorable to their dissemination. Studies in confined populations are surrounded by bureaucratic, ethical and security barriers. Thus, a pilot study is of great importance -for identify obstacles and opportunities that may arise during the implementation of the main study. Objective: implementation of a pilot study on risk behaviors associated to the dissemination of HIV, hepatitis B and C, and syphilis in an incarcerated population. Methods: Cross Sectional study. In July of 2007, in a convenience sample, 107 prisoners were interviewed, face to face, using a standardized questioner. The study was approved by the Human Subject Committee of the Hospital das Clinicas of the School of Medicine from the University of Sao Paulo. Results: the research protocol was strict followed: institutional meetings of the direction and the different professional teams of the prison system; invitation to participants in close contact with prisoners representatives; signature of the consenting forms after the invitation and before the questionnaire was applied. Meetings were conducted to adjust the questionnaire. Interviewers were trained. A dataset using Microsoft Office was elaborated to allow insertion of the data collected. Subjects represented 16, 5% of the prison population. Participants were young, average of 31, 1 years of age. The length time in prison was 18, 7 months in average. The average of the initiation in the use of legal drugs was 14, 7 and illegal drugs 16, 6 years of age. After the arrestment there was a diminishment of the use of drugs, and no injection of drugs was reported. Tattoo inside of the prison was reported by 55, 1%. STI were reported by 41, 2% in life and by 34% in the last month, and 2, 5% reported to be HIV positive. 53, 8% maintained the same amount of sexual relation that they had outside of the prison. From the 28, 6% that regularly used condoms, 26, 3 regularly used inside of the prison too. Interviewed that were involved in aggression were 78, 5% verbal and 65, 1% physic, and 33, 6% refereed being threatened of dead. Marijuana, Alcohol and crack were the drugs involved in such circumstances. Discussion: The pilot study has tested the instrument of research, its applicability and ability to identify risk factors for transmission of the mentioned infections, both within or outside of the prison. The training of interviewers favored both the familiarity with the instrument, as the appropriate contact secure and ethical - with inmates. The experience with this reality has contributed to map vulnerabilities in the implementation of the main study. Limitations of the study: serology and analysis were not part of the pilot study, therefore postponed for the main study with adequate sample. Questionnaires may present problems with the information obtained. Many of the information may not match the reality; both, information or memory biases could be identified.

Development and valorization of a membrane emulsification process for the production of nanoemulsions / Développement et valorisation d'un procédé d'émulsification membranaire pour la production de nanoémulsions

Alliod, Océane 20 November 2018 (has links)
They are produced usually by low or high energy techniques. In this work, a process involving moderate pressure, premix membrane emulsification (PME) was proposed as an alternative. Oil-in-water (O/W) and water-in-oil (W/O) nanoemulsions were produced with a pilot scale set-up composed of a controlled high pressure syringe pump and Shirasu Porous Glass (SPG) membrane. First, the influence of process and composition parameters on droplet sizes and pressures was extensively studied with model compositions to optimize the production. Thus, nanoemulsions down to 260 nm for O/W and around 600 nm for W/O were successfully produced. Then, the set-up was used to produce nanoemulsions of specific compositions: O/W and W/O nanoemulsions stabilized with polypeptidic surfactants and O/W nanoemulsions suitable for injection. Finally, the set-up developed was compared to two traditional high energy processes, microfludizer and ultrasound in terms of droplet size and active preservation. No real difference between the three processes was seen on active preservation with the model active chosen. However, regarding droplet size, PME produced monodispersed droplets of 335 nm compared to the other processes which produced nanoemulsions of around 150 nm but with the presence of micron size droplets detected by laser diffraction and optical microscopy. Therefore, PME nanoemulsions are also suitable for parenterals applications with no additional filtration step required
