The Orange Wave : How the practice of place marketing is utilized by the rural municipality of Hagfors in order to attract new inhabitants from the Netherlands

They leave everything behind in the Netherlands;friends, family, jobs and careers in order to start a new life in what theycall the land of opportunities, namely Sweden. Here, in the county ofVärmland in a little, rural town named Hagfors they see a chance to a brighterfuture and the possibility of accomplishing a better quality of life. They wantto buy houses, start companies and explore a new way of life in this land ofpromises. While people are migrating from the Netherlands, inhabitants ofHagfors are moving out to big, urban cities that can offer more possibilities.This is the reality for many rural areas like Hagfors, they lose populationthrough out-migration. Despite the negative population trend, the municipalityregains some of its lost inhabitants through the international migration fromlarge Dutch cities. The purpose of this thesis is to examine how the practiceof place marketing has been used by Hagfors municipality in order to attractnew inhabitants from the Netherlands. Which place marketingstrategies have been utilized by Hagfors, how can the effect of theseapproaches be measured and how is the Hagfors brand perceived by the Dutch immigrants?These are the research questions that have been answered through qualitativeinterviews with municipal employees and Dutch immigrants. The results implythat Hagfors have marketed themselves through the internet and the EmigrationExpo in Utrecht but these strategies have not had any effect on the immigrants’motives for moving to the area. Instead of actively tryingto receive more immigrants to the area Hagfors municipality should invest timeand money on the Dutchmen who are already living in the area.The conclusion that Hagfors has not developed a brand platform has preventedthe Dutch immigrants from creating a uniform image of the brand.

A Study of City Marketing: the case of The World Games 2009 Kaohsiung

In addition to the increase of demand in global tourism, the incorporation of sports and recreation has become a new trend in tourism industry. Holding sports event not only can bring huge tourism earnings to the host city, but also build strong sense of pride and belongingness among local residents. Sport event possesses multiple influences on economical, social, cultural and physical environment. This research is implemented through documentary analysis, case study method, and content analysis method. Using The World Games 2009 Kaohsiung as case study, this research probes into the chanllenges that Kaohsiung City Government implements, the marketing strategies that it implements, along with the benefits that The World Games 2009 Kaohsiung brings to the host city based on the strategic place marketing theory. The research finds that holding international sports event can actually bring the city together, increase city awareness, drive capital development, and generate economic benefits. However, the investment for the international sports event is too huge that requires sustained observations on the longterm effects. Moreover, the host city should strengthen the unique features of the city more in order to differenciate from other cities when using marketing mix to promote the sports event.

Att vara i Vara kommun : En studie om kommunens identitet, profil och image

Abstract The aim of this paper is to investigate whether Vara municipality has a continuous picture of their identity, profile and image. Globalization has contributed to the increasingly growing of place marketing. Therefore, the study goes on to using the concepts of identity, profile and image to find out if Vara Municipality communicates similar throughout the whole organization and find out their all through core values. Globalisation will be an interpretive framework for the work that describes why the place marketing is becoming more pressing. The sense of place will be a central part of this study as it is the feelings and images of different places that will be described by the municipality together with the identity, profile and image. The method consists of structured- and semi-structured interviews and document analysis. The structured interviews were used to find out which image the neighboring municipalities had of the Vara Municipality and they were also used to find out the identity of the municipality by interview its own residents. The semi-structured interviews were used to find out the profile by interviewing the quality- and HR-manager of Vara municipality. The results and analysis concludes that Vara municipality has two central values of the municipality that is consistently in identity, profile and image, these values are culture and entrepreneurship. The identity and the image had several similarities but the profile was very different comparing to the image of the neighboring municipalities and its own residents. This may be because the profile represents what the municipality want others to see, and can be a bit of a ”belief in the future”. Wara municipality needs to work on the profile if they want a consistent image so it fits better with their identity and image.

Can a sports team create love for a City? : a case study of place attachment from a resident perspective

Purpose The study theoretically examine if satisfaction of a sports team can create place attachment to a city from a residents’ perspective. It empirically tests if this theory can be applied in reality through a case study of a handball team IFK Kristianstad, and Kristianstad city. Design/methodology/approach A deductive approach that was based on theoretical insights from place attachment, satisfaction and service quality. A quantitative study was conducted on spectators in Kristianstad Arena. Findings The paper reveals that high service quality leads to high satisfaction among spectators, which creates place attachment to Kristianstad. The results proved that residents of Kristianstad are more place attached to the city than people living elsewhere. Originality/value The value of our paper is a new insight of place attachment from a resident’s perspective. The paper highlights that satisfaction of a sports team actually can create place attachment to a city. Research implications There are many variables that are important when exploring residents’ satisfaction and place attachment, several of them may be education, healthcare, entertainment and variety in a city. By studying the different variables it is possible to receive a larger perspective from residents’ point of views. Additionally, the study could be applied in a larger context where the target group is the whole population of a city. Practical implications The practical contribution might be valuable information for IFK Kristianstad about the spectators of the team; among other, the information demonstrates that the team is valuable for the city. Since the handball team is of importance for both the city and its residents, this information might be useful when marketing Kristianstad city in the future.

Customer Relationship Marketing By Destination Marketing Organizations Does It Lead To Favorable Behavioral Intentions To Meeting Planners?

In convention market, one of the fastest growing sectors in hospitality industry, meeting planners play an important role to select a destination for their event. Therefore, a good relationship with them can be a competitive advantage for a convention destination considering a fierce competition among the destinations. The objective of this study is to develop an empirically valid relationship marketing (RM) model that would verify the antecedents, mediators, and consequence of the relationship between the destination marketing organization (DMO) and meeting planners. This study found three antecedents (i.e., customer orientation, familiarity, and reputation) of the RM mediating constructs that consist of satisfaction, trust, and commitment as well as consequence (i.e. behavioral intention) led by the RM mediators based on review of the literature. Therefore, the hypothesized relationships 1) between the antecedents and the mediators, 2) between the mediators, 3) and 3) between the mediators and the consequence in the model were tested by using structural equation modeling (SEM) with LISREL results. Eight out of eleven hypotheses were supported by the examination of path coefficients while 33 observed indicators were confirmed in the measurement model through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The SEM results showed the significant relationships that lead to meaningful implications in both industry and academia while this study is not immune to limitations that can be the starting points of recommendations for future studies

Today more people choose to travel, both for business and leisure, which have resulted in that tourism gradually are considered to be an important industry for different places. The increased possibility to travel and globalization is the main reason why destinations more often tend to use place branding and place marketing as a strategy to differentiate themselves against their competitors. This paper aims to study the phenomenon place marketing from a producer perspective on the destination High Coast, Sweden. Interviews was conducted with both the destination-organization and various tourism company within the region. The study aims to answer following questions: In which way do the destination developers at the High Coast work with place branding and place marketing? Perceive tourism companies in the High Coast area any benefit of and do they share the image that the destination developers want to convey? This paper shows how a destination actively work with packaging and communicating the core values of the destination. The developers work includes for instance a brand analysis where the involvement of companies and local people is one of the main points. The majority of the tourism business companies within the destination High Coast also feel that they can take advantage of the destination developers branding and that they, as individual companies, can help promote the destination.

<p>Svenska högskolor spenderar allt mer pengar på marknadsföring som används i arbetet med att attrahera studenter. Konkurrensen om studenterna är hård högskolorna emellan och resurser satsas på marknadsföring för att överleva i kampen om studenterna. Som i all marknadsföring bör den egna produkten särskiljas från konkurrenter och numera är det inte endast program och kurser som ägnas uppmärksamhet. Staden och dess attraktioner där den aktuella högskolan är belägen får idag en plats i den marknadsföring som sker.</p><p>Högskolan i Jönköping presenterar Jönköping som stad i sin programkatalog med presumtiva studenter som målgrupp. Det förefaller oss som studenter vid Högskolan i Jönköping intressant att undersöka den bild som sprids av vår stad i programkatalogen. Vårt syfte är därmed att konkretisera en profil utifrån programkatalogens innehåll samt att undersöka huruvida denna profil överensstämmer med inflyttade studenters bild av Jönköping, det vill säga stadens image.</p><p>Då det fokuseras på tolkning för att nå en ökad förståelse inom området utgår vi från en kvalitativ ansats och använder en sympatisk tolkningsstrategi samt arbetar i samklang med den hermeneutiska cirkeln. Syftet kräver en process av analyser och undersökningar som bryts ned i fyra frågeställningar. Genom dessa når vi följande: en konkretisering av en profil utifrån det innehåll som Högskolan i Jönköping använder i sin programkatalog 08/09, en konkretisering av Jönköpings image, en avstämning av profil och image med den faktiska verkligheten samt förhållandet mellan profil och image. Någon liknande undersökning har tidigare inte genomförts vilket gör vår undersökning relevant för att nå en förståelse för hur profilen förhåller sig till imagen.</p><p>Resultatet ger en klar och aktuell bild av hur profil och image förhåller sig till varandra. Det framträder att Högskolan i Jönköping presenterar relevanta områden för studenten om Jönköping. Framträdande i undersökningen är att de konkreta exempel som ges i profilen till stor del är irrelevanta för studenten. Exemplen är formade efter en alltför vid målgrupp och stämmer inte överens med studentens bild av vad de olika områdena innefattar. Detta framträdande resultat bidrar till rekommendationer om hur innehållet i programkatalogen kan förbättras. Undersökningen är till nytta för informations- och marknadsföringsavdelningen vid Högskolan i Jönköping att ta del av i arbetet med sin marknadsföring för att sprida en sanningsenlig profil som överensstämmer med studenters bild av Jönköping.</p>

<p>Bakgrund:</p><p>Senaste tiden har konkurrensen hårdnat för att locka invånare, företag och investerare till städerna. Detta har gjort det allt viktigare att utmärka sig som en attraktiv plats att bo på och leva i. Städer profilerar sig alltmer genom platsmarknadsföring. Däremot skiljer sig tillvägagångssättet och samarbetet inom planeringsgrupperna av det strategiska marknadsföringsarbetet.</p><p>Syfte:</p><p>Med studien vill författarna studera FMJ:s samarbete mellan privat och offentlig sektor samt om de enskilda intressenternas verksamhet påverkar det gemensamma arbetet inom FMJ. Författarna kommer samtidigt att undersöka om intressenterna anser att FMJ har uppnått de riktlinjer och mål som har tagits fram.</p><p>Metod:</p><p>Författarna har valt att genomföra en kvalitativ fallstudie i form av samtalsintervjuer. Samtalsintervjuer har genomförts med representanter från Jönköpings näringsliv och kommun.</p><p>Slutsatser:</p><p>Studien visar att ett samarbete vid platsmarknadsföring har i Jönköping varit ett lyckat koncept. Både den privata och den offentliga sektorn är överens om att ett samarbete måste finnas men att finansieringen för detta samarbete måste lösas inför framtiden. Vidare ser författarna också att en utvidgning av den styrelse som idag driver projektet tillsammans med verksamhetschefen bör genomföras för att få en större legitimitet i staden.</p>
