Cutouts with occurrences on the first person of plural are analyzed in the text named as Feminist Conscience and Struggles: conquests and challenges in Brazil. This text shows the dossier Perceptions of Feminine and Feminist Actions, published in Cult/Edition Journal, 210/2016. The first query of this research is: could the first person of plural form delimit modifying effects in journalistic texts, as it happens in the cutouts selected for this analysis? Thus, in order to answer this demand, the overall goal of this research was verifying how the first person of plural works, as a modifying element and a rhetoric characteristic, in the text Conscience and feminist struggles: achievements and challenges in Brazil, concerning the Perceptions of Feminine and Feminist Actions dossier, in Cult Magazine. Thus, this study is explained by the state of art achievement has shown that there is little research on the PPP operation in journalistic texts and few researches that consider the PPP a rhetorical strategy. Regarding the use of this person's speech as a modalization strategy, no research was detected in the consulted academic databases. So, according to this subject, there is a perspective that discussion in journalistic texts is built up from the relationship among the text producer, textual subject-matter and the public-reader; and that the text producer handles with linguistic resources to act out on audience, in order to guide the meaning production when choosing content that will verbalize as well as how to do it, adhering to modalization. Thus, the theoretical basis of this research is constituted of research on Modalization and Rhetoric. Considering the evaluation of modification phenomena, there was some reflection on proposals such as those ones of Castilho and Castilho (1993), Campos (2001), Koch (2002), Miranda (2005) and Corbari (2013). Therefore, Mosca (2001), Aristotle (2017), Massmann (2017) and Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca (2017), among other researchers were studied to evaluate the rhetorical process. Sociolinguistic guidelines are also considered regarding the use of pronoun "we", as it can be observed in Lucchesi's proposal (2009), since it is a recurrent linguistic impress in corpus, considering engagement way of the text producer with the other persons of the discourse, although the author proposes categories when observing oral texts and this research aims at analyzing the written ones. The analyzes of the selected cutouts have shown that this person of discourse presents three dimensions of meaning in the text. It is highlighted that, although it concerns about a person of the discourse, the linguistic resource guides the senses in the text, if it is considered duly associated to the content of statements and image that is built of the text producer with the likely audience.

Lembranças, esquecimentos e documentos: Ginásio Israelita Brasileiro Chaim Nachman Bialik e o enraizamento de um grupo judeu na cidade de São Paulo (1943-1955) / Memories, forgetfulness and documents: Gym Chaim Nachman Bialik Israeli Brazilian and rooting of a Jewish group in São Paulo (1943-1955)

Pereira, Irene Maria Gonçalves 22 September 2006 (has links)
This study is situated in Educational History field, specifically in that area which is dedicated to ethnic/religious relations and national minorities. The objective of the analysis is centered around the trajectory of the Ginásio Israelita Brasileiro Chaim Nachman Bialik. The starting point of this study concentrates on the the period of the schools foundation, in the district of Pinheiros, in the city of Sãon Paulo, in 1943, along with the Beth Jacob sinagogue during the years that end with 1955, the time when the school became oficially recognized by the Brazilian educational authorities. This educational institution was the result of the efforts of a group of immigrants from Western Europe who were of Jewish descent, whose objective was to provide the community with a conscious educational option based on Jewish values, traditions and ethnicity. Based on these premises, it is important to underline the fact that the Brazilian Jewish community is in truth plural, resulting from the migratory fluxuations of the first half of the 20th century. Ast the moment of their arrival in Brazil they were considered a people without roots, as their countries of origin were classified as without a country and in Brazil they were seen as refugees. In the development of this study, documents of the school archives were researched, as well as a collection of contemporary interviews utilizing the Oral History method. Based on these sources, it was necessary unveil the indications and the aspects that allow the groups multiple trajectory to be examined. The investigative point turns around the school/sinagogue relationship that marks the foundation of the institution. Therefore, it becomess important to trace the institutional path and the historical educational and political of the country. Thus, there is a concern in this study in perceiving the alignment of the educational system with the thought and action forms of the European Jewish community within a different nation. Also, to understand the agents involved in the social and economic development and formation process of this community in Brazil that led to the creation of established roots. The Bialik School during its constitutional process, analysized in this study, promotes a visualization of the path followed for the construction of the feeling of belonging within a a determined group, thus generating the elaboration of multifaceted identities.

It is intended to investigate the relations of power and the existential human condition, subjects intensely explored by the writer and the filmmaker, from the cultural / ideological representation of the sertanejo and the surrounding environment - a reflection of the collective imaginary built and still under construction; to understand communicative properties present in the literary work and in its translation / transcription to the language of cinema. For this are highlighted three cultural dimensions in which are inscribed the characters. It was concluded that his aesthetics relates the real facts (the "external") to the fictional narrative (the "internal"), but they are, in fact, the social and historical elements that allow to demonstrate, with the mimicry of coronelismo, the deficiencies and cruelty of the (universal) system of domination of man, this represented by the sertanejo and his miserable condition.

The Use of Grammatical and Social Cues in Early Referential Mapping

Paquette-Smith, Melissa 15 December 2011 (has links)
The preferential looking paradigm was used to investigate how toddlers integrate recently learned grammatical cues with well-established social cues in a novel word-learning scenario. To test this we examined children’s ability to decipher the referent of a novel noun using the grammatical information from a plural cue and social information from an eye-gaze cue. Experiment 1 is the first study showing that children as young as 24 months of age can rely on plural markings alone to infer the referent of a novel noun. Preliminary results of Experiment 2 suggest that when the plural cue is presented alongside contradicting information from a gaze direction cue, children still map the novel word to the grammatically cued object. Taken together, these results suggest that by the time children reach their second birthday, even newly learned grammatical information, such as plural markings, might already outweigh established social cues.

The pluarl constitutionalism will be the starting point of this study – proposes the reinterpretation of the national state based on equality of cultural relations, as well as recognition and respect to the peculiarities of different peoples and their traditions. So there are two fundamental questions, a) There is an antinomy between the standards mentioned, and which consists in this antinomy? b) What is the cause of this antinomy? The 169 Convention covers as one of its guarantees the right to reparation for theft of property of the tribal people, be they intellectual, material, cultural or even religious. The mentioned law was ratified in national plan in July 2002 and published in July 2003, and before it is born is the issue we intend to address because, when the time of ratification of the Convention, member states undertake to perform suitability of their national legislation and practices to the terms and provisions thereof. By ratifying the Convention in July 2002, Brazil, which in addition to member state of the International Labour Organization is one of the ten countries with a permanent seat on its Board of Directors, joined the instrument of international law more comprehensive for that matter, which seeks ensure that indigenous and tribal societies the minimum rights to safeguard their culture and identity in the context of the companies which, if they wish. To understand the paradox pointed out it is necessary to understand how to check the current recognition of indigenous societies as culturally different peoples with the right to identity and specificity, demonstrating how the history of the development of the country has imposed marginalization of indigenous communities, denying their rights and expunging their populations, and also question the appropriateness of forms of international law to the national legal system considering the particularities of the companies that deal.

Sexual Dimorphism in a Joint-Nesting Plural Breeder, the Smooth-Billed Ani (Crotophaga ani) / Sexual Dimorphism in Smooth-Billed Anis / Sexual Selection in a Joint-Nesting Plural Breeder, the Smooth-Billed Ani (Crotophaga ani)

Barclay, Megan 09 1900 (has links)
Sexual selection has been investigated in many different systems but information is lacking in joint-nesting species. Both sexual dimorphism and possible signals of quality were explored in this study for a joint-nesting plural breeder, the smooth-billed ani (Crotophaga ani). Sexual dimorphism can be examined for a species in an attempt to reveal particular traits that might be under sexual selection and the strength of sexual selection on them. In mate choice decisions, sexually selected traits may be used by the choosy individual to assess the quality of potential mates. These honest traits need to reveal the condition and genetic quality of the individual accurately. For example, it has been proposed that plumage colour reveals condition, and more specifically parasite resistance in birds. This study explores sexual size dimorphism and dichromatism in smooth-billed anis, as well as the ability of their feather colour to reveal body condition (measured as residuals from a regression of mass versus body size), body size, and parasite numbers. Additionally, because anis are group living birds, this study investigated whether group size had an effect on parasite numbers. Anis from a population in southwestern Puerto Rico were measured for size, their feathers were collected and analyzed using a spectrometer, and ectoparasites were collected by dustruffling. For all size traits measured, males were significantly larger than females. Males also had more exaggerated bill depths (relative to body size) than females. There were no differences between the sexes for all colour morphometries, except tail saturation; females had more saturated tails than males. While no decisive conclusions can be drawn as to why the dimorphic traits are different between males and females, sexual selection may have played a role. The relationship between log10 average lice numbers per group and group size was positive, but not significant. In male smooth-billed anis, plumage colour was not related to lice or mite numbers, or body size and body condition. Plumage colour was also not related to body condition and size in females. Additionally, ectoparasites did not have an effect on male body condition. Plumage may not only be an inaccurate signal of parasite resistance or body size and body condition in the smooth-billed ani, but ectoparasites may not even have a negative effect on their host. The inability to find significant results may have been affected by other factors, such as feather wear and the age of individuals. These results warrant a more detailed look into the social behaviour of the group-living smooth-billed ani. / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

Vi har problem - om medvaro i ljuset av klimatkrisen / We are in trouble - on being-with in light of the climate crisis

Östergren, Åke January 2019 (has links)
This essay tries to find a possible way for us to deal with the questions concerning climate change by looking into an alternative conception of being. One can speak of the ongoing climate change as a crisis that concerns all of human kind and all beings on earth, but how can we fight it together? The situation demands us to re-think how we humans exist together and among other beings. Despite that the situation calls for instant and radical action, we seem unwilling to do enough. We get stuck on questions about who should take action: is it the politicians or each one alone, or is there something in between? By looking more deeply into the concept of Mitsein as Martin Heidegger depicts it in Being and Time, Jean-Luc Nancy brings to light a possible way past the problematic thought of Heidegger. Nancy shows us in Being Singular Plural that Heideggers exposition on Mitsein is a mere sketch when considering the full potential of the concept. By determining Mitsein as being fundamentally-ontologically originary and anterior to the individuation of Dasein, Nancy opens up a whole new field of thought. According to Nancy, the existential analytic has to begin with something like a ”co-existential analytic”, which will draw the lines for how we exist being-with. With a concept like being singular plural and his way of conceptualizing meaning, Nancy might give us some possible tools to cope with our situation today. Nancys actuality is confirmed by the ecological philosopher Mick Smith, who emphasizes the demand for a new approach towards nature and what it means to be. Smith adds to the essay a glimpse of an emerging philosophical discourse about the thought of an ecological community, where the concept of being singular plural could possibly play a central part.
