Study on treatment of domestic wastewater of an area in Tu Liem district, Hanoi, by water hyacinth / Nghiên cứu xử lý nước thải sinh hoạt tại một khu dân cư thuộc quận Từ Liêm, Hà Nội, bằng Bèo lục bình

Pham, Khanh Huy, Nguyen, Pham Hong Lien 09 December 2015 (has links) (PDF)
Domestic wastewater is one of the most interested environmental issues in Vietnam, especially in big cities and suburban residential areas. Most of the wastewater was not treated in the right way before discharging to environment. In this research, the author used water hyacinth as a main aquatic plant in aquatic pond model to treat wastewater. The experiment was operated continuously in 1 year with hydraulic retention time (HRT) is 11 and 18 days. Hydraulic loading rate (HRL) is 300 and 500 m3/ha/day, respectively. Treatment efficiency of the model for TSS is 90% (remaining 6 -12mg/l); COD, BOD5 is 63 - 81% (remaining 10 - 48mg/l); TP is 48 – 50% (remaining 3.5 - 9.8mg/l); TKN is 63 - 75% (remaining 8 - 17mg/l). Polluted parameters in effluent were lower than A and B levels of Vietnam standard QCVN 14: 2008/BTNMT and QCVN 40: 2011/BTNMT. The doubling time of water hyacinth in summer is 18days, and in autumn and winter is 28.5 days. Experiment results showed that we can use water hyacinth in aquatic pond to treat domestic wastewater with medium scale. We can apply this natural treatment method for residential areas by utilizing existing natural ponds and abandoned agricultural land with capacity up to 500m3/ha day. However, to get better efficiency we should combine with other aquatic plant species to treat wastewater and improve environmental landscape.

Brunet Maheu, Jean-Marc 09 1900 (has links)
Purpose: The objective of this study is to assess the effect of GDF-5 on cartilage homeostasis. GDF-5 is a susceptibility gene for OA and member of the BMP super family. Studies have shown that it can increase expression of anabolic factors in chondrocytes. Therefore, our study indentifies how GDF-5 influences this metabolism and the global homeostasis of chondrocytes, aiming mainly towards Aggrecan. Methods : Osteoarthritic (OA) chondrocytes from canine and human models were exposed to GDF-5. Protein expressions, along with mRNA expression were assessed in order to investigate Aggrecan production and the ratio of Col-II/Col-I, for the anabolic phenotype markers. The aggrecanases ADAMTS-4 and ADAMTS-5 and their global activity were assed for the catabolic factors. The NITEGE and CTX-II epitope were also measured in synovial fluid of Pond-Nuki dogs that received intraarticular GDF-5 injections. Results : GDF-5 increases chondrocyte cellular activity, in our canine and human models. Both mRNA and protein expression of the chondrocytes Aggrecan were increased and the aggrecanases expression and activity were decreased. Collagen ratio did not show a phenotype, except et high dosage where the Col-I production is induced. Aggrecanase activity was lowered while CTX-II was increased. Conclusion : In conclusion, the anabolic cellular activity of OA chondrocytes increases while the catabolic factors decrease in presence of GDF-5. This double action illustrates the global effect of GDF-5, identifying it as a potential disease modifying factor of OA that should be further investigated.

Dynamique de la diversité génétique du sorgho repiqué (Sorghum bicolor ssp. bicolor) au Nord Cameroun : facteurs biologiques et anthropiques / Dynamics of the genetic variety of sorghum in the North-Cameroon : biological and anthropological factors

Soler, Clélia 26 November 2012 (has links)
In 1996, FAO has recognized the role of farmers in building and managing genetic resources. This work is part of the project PLANTADIV which main objective is to understand how biological and anthropogenic factors interact and shape diversity of cultivated plants in the Lake Chad Basin. In this region, people have developed an original agricultural innovation: the use in dry-season of flooded clay soils for transplanting sorghum. Transplanted sorghum varieties are able to tap into soil moisture reserves to complete their growth cycle in the dry-season without any water supply. Transplanted sorghum cultivation undertook a large development in the region since the middle of the XX century. The thesis project focuses on the estimation of the genetic diversity of planted sorghum and on biological and genetic mechanisms that may have contributed to its structuration both within and between landraces. We also undertook to trace the evolutionary history of planted sorghum by relying primarily on population genetics approaches to elaborate over geographical and historical hypotheses. This study revealed that at least two events of deseasonalization occurred from rain- sorghum pools from two different genetic groups. Differentiation of dry-season sorghum is stronger than that of rain-sorghum. This may be partially due to social practices: rainy sorghum are mainly exchanged through friends, families and neighbors as planted sorghum seeds are often obtain from markets. Extensive seed exchange between different human populations across the region may have blurred the geographical pattern of the genetic diversity, not allowing us to identify potential sites for deseasonalization. The second part of this work is devoted to the reproductive biology of dry-season sorghum. Direct and indirect estimation methods have shown that dry-season sorghum is, as rain sorghum, preferably selfing. Average level of out crossing is nevertheless lower in dry-season sorghum (1.8%) than it is in rain-sorghum (12%). Within landraces, variations are also smaller for dry-season sorghum than for rain-sorghum.The last part of the thesis is devoted to the impacts of agricultural practices on the structure of the genetic diversity of dry-season sorghum at a local scale. Genetic analyzes have shown that in both studied villages of Djongdong and Bouzar, located in the extreme north of Cameroon, each landrace named by a farmer corresponds to a genetic entity. In addition, the same morphological type among different farmers corresponds to a genetic entity. Modes of seed management and cultural practices were analyzed; they seem to have little influence on the structure of the genetic diversity of dry-season sorghum.

Enregistrement molécularie de changements d'usage des sols et de pressions anthropiques : l'exemple d'un étang piscicole (Lansquenet, Lorraine) / Molecular record of land use changes and anthropogenic pressure : example of a fish pond (Lansquenet, Lorraine)

Bertrand, Olivia 12 October 2012 (has links)
Cette étude met ainsi en évidence la succession des usages de ce site depuis un milieu marécageux jusqu'à la création et l'exploitation de l'étang piscicole jalonnée d'épisodes d'assec / The sedimentary series, collected in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, constitute records or archives of the state of a system at a given moment of the past and relate its evolution in relation to natural disturbances and anthropogenic pressure. In the following manuscript, the sedimentary record of a fish pond has been studied using a multidisciplinary approach. In particular, the characterization at the molecular and macromolecular scale of the organic matter in sediments of the pond Lansquenet allowed to reconstruct the history of its watershed. On the basis of biomarkers and molecular ratios (terrestrial to aquatic ratio: TAR(HC), C29/C27(ST), aquatic/macrophyte proxy: Paq, perylene, syringyl/vanillyl, cinnamyl/vanillyl, acid/aldehyde of syringyl and vanillyl units), this work has enabled us to understand, at the scale of a watershed, the changes in organic matter origins (terrestrial and/or aquatic, natural and/or anthropogenic) over a period of several centuries. Moreover, the results unraveled the depositional conditions as well as preservation conditions in the sedimentary profile, directly influenced by land use and human activities. The confrontation of organic geochemical data with sedimentological, mineralogical and palynological data was a real benefit and validated the use of a series of organic compounds as relevant and sensitive biomarkers regarding environmental and paleoenvironmental modifications. This study highlighted thus the succession of use of the Lansquenet site from a swampy area to the settlement of a fish pond punctuated by drier periods

Vliv odběrového místa na hygienicky významné ukazatele kvality vody v přírodních koupalištích / The effect of sampling point on hygienically significant water indicators in natural bathing establishment

Zelinková, Myra January 2012 (has links)
In this diploma thesis, I deal with the influence of the sampling site on water quality in natural bathing lakes (Hostivar reservoir, Seberak pond and Vyzlovka pond) in this. I have established that hygienically significant kinds of phytoplankton may differ in terms of water quality especially where there are cyanobacteria constituting water bloom. Surface water bloom may be moved by wind to the lee side of the water body (Microcystis sp.). Aphanizomenon flos-aquae water bloom floating in water column can be affected by wind and by water flow (which may be partly affected by wind as well). With the prevailing fibrous Planktothrix agardhii which does not connstitute water bloom the concentration of chlorophyll-a and cyanobacterial cell abundance in individual sampling sites are similar although the concentration of chlorophyll-a a is about 200 g.l-1 . Microcystis sp. and Scenedesmus sp. survive under eutrophic conditions in competition. From the microbiological perspective, water quality can differ within a single sampling site in places at a distance of less than 100 m. Microbial contamination can be caused by bathers, water birds, farm animals and probably by the removing of microorganisms from sand, mud and sediments on the beach or shore. Rain episodes probably increase the abundance of E.coli...

Consortium algues-bactéries des lagunes à haut rendement algal : évaluation des performances, devenir des nutriments des eaux usées et conception à base de modèles expérimentaux et numériques / Algal-bacterial consortium in high rate algal pond : evaluation of performances, wastewater nutrient recovery and experimental and numerical models based design

Pham, Le Anh 13 September 2018 (has links)
The thesis focused on both experimental and modeling works aiming to investigate the algal bacterial processes in High-Rate Algal Pond (HRAP) system. A pilot HRAP system was built and the impacts of different operational conditions on hydraulic and gas transfer rate of the pilot were investigated. Moreover, optimal inoculation ratio between algae and bacteria (Al-Bac) was also studied. The Al-Bac biomass was theninoculated in the HRAP system for long term assessment of wastewater treatment and nutrient recovery. The HRAP in this study can be applied for secondary treatment application or as a primary step removing rapidly high loads of COD and TKN from centrate wastewater. Experimental results obtained were also employed in calibrating and validating black box and comprehensive algal bacterial models. Both models coulddescribe the system in long term. The former was adequate for giving quick assessment of the system performance as well as sizing application while the latter successfully simulated the results both in long (general) and short (detailed) time scale. A next step should be applying the system in large scale.

Prokariotic microbial community assessment by molecular techniques - FISH, PCR/DGGE and sequencing in load reduction artificial systems - enphasys on the study of facultative stabilization pond.

Nishio, Sandra Regina 17 September 2010 (has links)
Microorganisms are amongst the most responsible for the conversion of sewage organic compounds and they are the key of the treatment success. The combination of two or more molecular techniques in this kind of assessment allows getting more accurate results concerning a microbial community. The facultative stabilization pond microbial community structure of domestic sewage treatment from Cajati city was characterized based on 16S RNAr gene fragments patterns from PCR-DGGE, FISH, 16S RNAr gene clone library and sequencing. The patterns obtained by DGGE were co-related to environmental variables by redundancy analysis (RDA). The samples were collected in three intervals to study the seasonal variation, it was collected in three depth (surface, 0,7 m and 1,5 m) to the vertical assessment and in nine spots at 0,7 m depth for the horizontal assessment of the microbial community.

Off flavor detection and control in nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) through depuration and smoking.

Biato, Denise Oliveira 11 March 2005 (has links)
Currently, economic losses are a reality due to the fish off flavor provoked by the handling used in the culture and by the water quality of the fish tanks, which are not always satisfactory. Microbiological, physical-chemical and sensory evaluations of the fish were carried out in order to detect probable alterations that would compromise the fish quality. The off flavor detection, as well as, the suggestion for depuration before distribution and sale, and the use of the smoking as a way of disguising this problem were the objectives of this research. Microbiological, physical-chemical and biological analyses of the waters in the fish and the depuration ponds were performed to monitor the quality of the fish. The fish- Nile Tilapias (Oreochromis niloticus) from the area of Arthur Nogueira, in the State of São Paulo - was submitted to the depuration (3, 5 and 7 days). The fish submitted to the depuration and the control fish were compared in order to find the best depuration period. No significant differences (p>0.05) for centesimal composition, non-protein nitrogen - NNP, total base volatile nitrogen BNVT, and pH were found among the depuration periods. The depuration process provoked a more intense weight loss in the first three days for depuration. Through the sensory analyses, we could verify that the control fish presented a greater off flavor intensity than the others. The three-day depuration showed a similar statistical efficiency (F Test) than that of the five-day treatment, but differed from that of the 7-day treatment. As for the flavor attribute, the 3, 5, and 7-day treatments did not show a significant difference, statistically. The water in the fish pond presented eutrophization problems and presence of geosmine, whereas the water in the depuration pond was clear and geosmine-free. The fish that did not go through depuration (control) were submitted to smoking. Fresh fish fillets were compared to the smoked ones. As to the centesimal composition, we verified that they were significantly affected (F Test). As to non-protein nitrogen - NNP, total base volatile nitrogen - BNVT and pH, there were no significant changes (p>0.05) either among the treatments. Through sensory analysis, we verified that the fresh fish presented a more intense off flavor than the smoked ones. As to odor and flavor, there was a significant (p>0.05) difference among the treatments. The depuration process was efficient in the elimination of the off-flavor in the tilapia, for, according to our analyses, we could conclude that the ideal period for this elimination was 5 days of depuration, carried out in a pond with clean running water. When compared to the fresh fish, the smoked fish was better accepted by the panelists. The smoking process is a way of disguising the off flavor; it is a simple, inexpensive process, which can be readily adopted by producers a way of adding value to the fish.

Treatment of sewage containing expressive amount of industrial effluents in a pilot plant system consisted of an UASB reactor followed by an aerated lagoon and a settling pond.

Romero De La Iglesia, Manuel 21 December 2004 (has links)
This experimental investigation was carried out in order to evaluate the performance of a pilot plant, composed of an UASB reactor followed by an aerated lagoon and a settling pond, treating the Wastewater Treatment Plant of Jundiaí city (WWTPJ) influent sewage, which contains in its composition an expressive amount of industrial effluents. The UASB reactor and settling pond have an useful volume of 3.0 m3 and 2.0 m3, respectively. The aerated lagoon volume is variable from 7.2 m3 to 21.6 m3 to make possible the hydraulic retention time variation. The COD, BOD5, suspended solids, total nitrogen, total phosphorus and true colour removal efficiencies of the system were evaluated when the aerated lagoon hydraulic retention time varied from 1.0 to 3.5 days and in the UASB reactor and settling pond was mainteined constant at 8.0 hours and 1.8 day, respectively. The range of removal efficiencies obtained in the system are: 85 - 87% for total COD, 92 - 96% for total BOD5, 81 - 87% for TSS, 80 - 88% for VSS, 55 - 57% for total nitrogen, 60 - 70% for total phosphorus, and 50 - 60% for true color, when the aerated lagoon hydraulic retention time varied from 1.5 to 3.5 days. The UASB reactor operating at 8.0 hours hydraulic retention time removes almost 50% of total COD, 60% of total BOD5 and 40% of TSS from the influent contents. The system performance lead to a final effluent with a total COD, total BOD5, TSS, VSS, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and true color concentrations in the range of: 170 - 230 mg/L, 30 - 60 mg/L and 30 - 45 mg/L, 24 - 40 mg/L, 24 - 28 mg N/L, 3,5 - 5,5 mg P/L and 375 - 600 mg Pt/L, respectively. The system studied is a practicable alternative for the treatment of the WWTPJ influent sewage, probably with less area and energy saving whem compared to the WWTPJ current needs, which uses a system composed by an aerated lagoon followed by a settling pond

Stormwaters are identified as a major source of pollution for waterbodies. Particularly, metals and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in stormwater are known as the most toxic compounds for the fauna and flora. To limit the impact of these micropollutants on hydrosystems quality, stormwater constructed wetlands (SCW) have been built worldwide. This study aims i) to assess the efficiency of a 5-years-old SCW that combined a sedimentation pond followed by a vertical flow sand filter in urban area (Strasbourg 67, France), ii) to determine micropollutants storage in water and soils during dry period, (iii) to investigate the seasonality impacts on SCW performances, (iv) to evaluate copper, lead and zinc sorption behavior on the filter sand and (v) to model micropollutants and rain water fluxes from the catchment to the filter output. 3 years of on-site monitoring and 13 rain event sampling campaigns have shown that SCW hydraulic and treatment performances are constant over the year. Rain water is characterized by high loads of zinc and its micropollutants loads depend on the rain event depth. Then, chemical analyses, sequential extractions and batch experiments performed on the SCW substrate highlight that metals mobility in the filter is affected by pH and metal concentration. A model based on the Richard’s equation has been developed and predicts with success the 1-D vertical flow in the filter.
