Breeding and cultural practices of chile peppers, Capsicum SPP

Chinthakuntla, Reddy R 05 May 2007 (has links)
This study evaluated horticultural characteristics and development of improved cultivars with valueded traits for capsicum breeding selection. A total of 223 accessions belonging to six Capsicum spp. viz; Capsicum annuum, Capsicum baccatum, Capsicum frutescens, Capsicum chinense, Capsicum annum var. glabriuscum, and Capsicum chacoense were used in this study. Plant genetic resource unit of USDA/ARS, Griffin Georgia, provided the accessions. Before anthesis, the flowers on selected female parents were emasculated to enable crossertilization with pollen from selected male parents. This study showed that wide crossing incompatibilities could limit successful crosses between species. In 2004, seven progeny lines and twentyive parent lines were evaluated at Alcorn State University for horticultural characteristics and development of improved cultivars with valueded traits. The F1 progeny had early maturity, higher yields, and appeared to be adapted to Mississippi environment. Results indicated that C. annum yields were higher than yield of other species. Yield of Capsicum chinense was the second highest. Based on horticultural evaluation of seven progeny lines and twenty five-parent lines, three F2 genotypes, C. annum (Ca15xCa8), Ca88 and C. baccatum (Cb24xCb7) were selected for detailed cultural evaluations in field trials in 2005. The genotypes were grown under three cultural practice regimes as follows: 1) Date of planting with three planting dates. 2) Plant spacing trial comprising of three spacing configurations, and 3) mulching with four mulch treatments. Fruit yield was similar in all three genotypes at first and second dates of planting, but declined considerably at the third planting date for the two progenies. Planting Chile pepper in April or May in Mississippi, could be optimum for maximum yield. The genotype Ca15xCa8 had consistently high yield and may be adapted to Mississippi, followed by Ca88. Yield of all genotypes increased with increasing spacing from medium (90 m2 x .30 m2) to wider (1.20 m2 x.45 m2). At narrow spacing, plant yield was generally lower, but yield per unit area was higher, whereas, at wider spacing, yield per plant was higher but yield per unit area was lower. Regardless of genotypes, yield was highest with plastic mulch. Among genotypes, progeny Ca15xCa8 gave consistently higher yields in all mulch treatments followed by Ca88 genotype.

Práticas de leitura no teatro de grupo: aproximações com a escola / Reading practices in the theater group: approaches to school

Soares, Mei Hua 23 May 2014 (has links)
Jovem Paidéia) e a Cia. / To establish points of contact between reading, theater and education, this research aims to investigate practices of reading involved in the creative processes of theater groups, specifically Cia Paidéia Theatre (Young Co. Paideia ) and Cia Antropofágica (PY) . These two companies are part of the current São Paulo group stage and were contemplated by the Municipal Development Program of the Theater to the City of São Paulo over some issues . In the first stage of the research, observations and interviews with the theater groups in question (field research) were performed. Although this step was a survey in the Collection of Fomento Municipal Theatre of São Paulo Culture. Reading the projects of other theater groups contemplated by law provided greater understanding of cultural actions arising from the program as well as the theatrical panorama outlined by this policy . The search for understanding of the functioning of the program and encouraged groups , combined with studies on reading in theater groups ( in locus ) , provided subsidies underpinning of our research hypotheses : the configuration of cultural practices - among them, related to reading - arising out of the Support Program to the theater . From the collection of data and the theoretical approach, the figure of the leader emerges as key in driving the collective reading practices, whose mediation , according to the analysis , is based on extensive literary , cultural and political training by theater directors . Elements such as improvisation , working with the body, with listening , and training by action and experience , among others , also have implications to the practice of reading. Finally , our study is focused on the idea that the theatrical reading practices - developed by the group holding , as members in their training centers , young people of school age - can illuminate school reading practices.

Multiple interment loculi tombs at Tell Dothan -- burial behaviour as cultural process in the Late Bronze/Early Iron I Levant

Chudzik, Katarzyna Joanna 31 July 2007
What is considered anomalous among the Late Bronze/Iron I Age Canaanite tomb plans rests on the understanding of the foreign and the local elements of interments of that period. When Diane Bolger, in her discussion of ancient Cypriot mortuary practices, noted the shift in the scholarly literature from the emphasis on the identity and status of the dead to an examination of the ways in which rituals of death and burial reveal the motives and identities of the living (Bolger 2003), her observation highlighted the importance of burial as a process rather than an event.
The phenomenon of burials in loculi chamber tombs during the transitional period of the end of the Late Bronze and beginning of the Early Iron Age is explored, building on the foundations established by Rivka Gonens work on Late Bronze burial behaviour in Canaan (Gonen 1992). The structural and ritual characteristics of the tombs that present evidence for cultural context and origins are considered, establishing whether the archaeological remains translate into a picture of a regional variation or a foreign influence. Are the Late Bronze/Iron I burials in Canaan examples of an amalgamation of cultural traits of variable geographical origins or did they represent an immigration of a mortuary custom? Why are loculi cave burials considered intrusive in the Canaanite territory?
The examination of Tell Dothan, Lachish, Tell el-Ajjul and Megiddo, and of the Cypriot sites of Ayios Iakovos Melia, Lapithos Vrysi tou Barba, Korovia Paleoskoutella and Dhenia Kafkalla facilitates the discussion of loculi chamber tomb plan interments in the Levant have prompted.

Unethical decision-making and behaviour in the life insurance sector of South Africa

Van Greunen, Conrad January 2010 (has links)
The public is regularly shocked by revelations of new business scandals. Nearly every sector of society is tainted by incidents of unethical behaviour. In this regard, the South African financial services industry has attracted a lot of attention, as some of the biggest scandals in recent years have occurred in this industry. With the world economy still experiencing the effects of the global recession, the last thing that institutions in the financial arena must do is engage in unethical behaviour. Immoral behaviour could damage a company's repution and lead to further financial losses. The purpose of this study was thus two-fold: firstly, to investigae the factors that influence unethical decision-making and behaviour in the local life insurance sector, and secondly to evaluate how business ethics are institutionalised at a sample of life insurance companies.

Sobreviver na adversidade: entre o mercado e a vida / Surviving in adversity: between the market and life

Hirata, Daniel Veloso 10 September 2010 (has links)
This dissertation consists of a study of the relations between the types of social control and the mass ilegalisms by means of an ethnographic research study conducted in a neighborhood located on the favelas of São Paulo. On one hand, this attempt aims at finding some locations that suffer the incidence of this social control, their economical and political networks, based on three observation points: a small birosca (a small store, generally in a slum, where food and alcoholic drinks are sold), illegal transport and crack houses; on the other hand, it also aims at studying the conducts built in these points of insertion of the informal, illegal and illicit urban markets and their correlated exposure to the risk of death. In this crossroads between the incidence of the mechanics of power, the plots of the mass ilegalisms and their corresponding conducts, it may be impossible to understand some of the dynamics of this social world, which takes place between informal, illegal and illicit issues, as well as between life and death.

The current study aims to answer essentially the following questions, "How do performing teachers of 4th grades of Basic School putting themselves together as teachers?" And "What the involvement of that on their teaching practice?" On the searching of answers from those questions, you make the following aims, understanding the graduating course and be a teacher of those teachers, inquiring to analyse the specificiment or noto f proper knowledges of being a teacher from First Classes orespecially of Four_Grade; identifying the origem and the nature of knowledges acquired-built by those researched teachers and to identify the involvement (or not) those lnowledges/that formation of the teaching practices of those educators. The interlocutors of that research are (three) teachers that perform in the Four_Grade on State School, all of them with more than twenty years of tesching experience. One decided for listening teachers from Fourth Grades of basic School for considering this moment important on passing to the second stage from fifth to eighth grade of Basic School, where teachers have showm different qualities in respect to the other classes. The research is centralized in a qualitative approach and hás investigated to understand the graduating course of the researching teachers. It was possible to realize that reading of teaching its not a homogeneous proceeding, as each teacher develop a certainly way of being thinking the teaching profession, having as reference the proceeding of appropriation before being experiences different instructive contexts. Practice of teaching in the First grades and essentially in the Fourth Grades, demand of the skills and knwoledges link particulary to Integral Education with affective chains and the sensibility to helping the pupil through the change between the uniteaching and multiteaching; the continuity of the proceeding of the teaching of reading and instrumentaliation in order to the pupil deal with the universe of the worlds written, He needs to get into the habito f organization, with a strong encouragement to autonomy. These Knwoledges emphasized by the the interlocutors are built essentialy in their teaching practices, although they admit their academic backgroud as essential. The umderstanding about doing and teaching think involve to analyse factors, and events and their influences, evidencing the importance of studuing about formative courses as they make possible an approach with wishes, and anguishes, and feelings and worths, and knowledges and doings that are membres of the act/think feels teeaching, that were/are built/rebuilt in different formative times/spaces.

Contribuição ao estudo de sistemas de inspeção e conservação predial : levantamento de boas práticas e identificação de padrões de deterioração com base na análise de dados de laudos de inspeção / Contribution to the study of building inspection and conservation systems: survey of good practices and recognition of deterioration patterns based on inspection reports data analysis.

Pacheco, Luiza Segabinazzi January 2017 (has links)
Due to different reasons, the population of several countries in the world, including Brazil, have seen a number of accidents related to building collapses, localized faults of some of its structural components or other problems with building subsystems, which result in significant disturbances and in risks to users health and safety. In Brazil, special focus has been given on the Performance Standards and the perception that management appropriate schemes of building conservation are fundamental to provide greater environmental and economic buildings sustainability. With this in mind, several Brazilian states and cities have begun to elaborate inspection laws, aiming at the compulsory of Buildings Inspection. This initiative is reflected in international experiences, which see inspection as an activity incorporated into the routine of conservation and buildings maintenance. The purpose of this thesis is to make a theoretical contribution to the construction of a Brazilian inspection system through the identification of good practices and investigating recurrent deterioration patterns in the inspection reports of the cities of Porto Alegre and Capão da Canoa. The research methodology consisted of a qualitative step, which investigated and analyzed documentation of the international and Brazilian context, aiming to identify good practices related to the scope of inspection laws, inspector profile, periodicity and report structure - and a quantitative step characterized by the Analysis of more than 600 reports obtained from city halls of the target cities of this study The capital of Rio Grande do Sul was the first Brazilian city, to have a legislation on conservation of front elements (Law no. 6323/88), such as marquees and other elements in balance and in 2014 approved the Decree No. 18,574, aiming at the inspection of the entire building. Capão da Canoa has had a law on the subject since 2009 after the accident with the Santa Fe Building. The study identified that in relation to the scope, the laws seek to ensure the safety of buildings; As for the inspector's profile, we can see a good practice in Australia that has classes of inspectors and places able to certify the professionals; As to periodicity, basically age is the conditioning (the older the building, the shorter the time frame for the inspection). Regarding the deterioration patterns, it was verified that in Internal and External Vertical Wall Systems, the infiltration humidity reaches 50% of the sample of Capão da Canoa and 27% of the buildings surveyed in Porto Alegre. It is also recurrent the presence of cracks and painting deterioration. In the subsystem of coatings, the standards refers to loss of adhesion, especially in the sample of Porto Alegre, where 36% of the buildings registered this anomaly that impacts the requirements of durability, maintenance, safety in use and operation. In the analysis of the subsystem structure, the highest occurrence was corrosion of the reinforcement, reported in 52% of the buildings of the city of Capão da Canoa. In Porto Alegre it is recurrent the registration of fissures that impact the watertightness and durability of the building. In general, it was evidenced that the inspection reports are important sources for analyzes related to the useful life and durability of the buildings.
