Modelagem matemática do efeito chicote em cadeias de abastecimento / Mathematical modeling of the Bullwhip Effect in supply chainsFioriolli, Jose Carlos January 2007 (has links)
The increase in demand variability as information flows from customers to manufacturers in a supply chain is known as the Bullwhip Effect (BE). Modeling this phenomenon is fundamental in measuring its intensity, aiming at reducing its negative impacts on both service and inventory levels in the supply chain. In this dissertation we propose a new, more precise mathematical model for quantifying the BE in systems with stochastic demand and lead time. The new model takes into account the lead time variability and is adjusted to a more realistic treatment of negative order quantities that may arise in some inventory cycles, two elements not present in the main available models in the literature. In addition, the model enables a more precise assessment of the role that the demand coefficient of variation plays in the quantification of the BE. The use of the proposed model enables an improved management of the supply chain by attenuating the propagation of the BE, increasing the service level and reducing inventory levels both locally and globally. In this dissertation, the main models for quantifying the BE are presented and analyzed, with emphasis in the works of Lee et al. (1997b), Chen et al. (2000), Fransoo and Wouters (2000) and Warburton (2004); in that analysis were identified several deficiencies, able to generate severe distortions in the quantification of the BE. The proposed model fully overcomes these deficiencies and presents elements that indicate that the intensity and stochastical and serial behavior of the BE can only be appropriately modeled if the lead time variability is considered and if inventory excesses are used in the order size calculation. The new model, in addition to contribute to the understanding of the BE dynamics enriching its analysis, represents appropriately the complexity of relationships among variables associated with the BE, contributing to its high predictive capacity. Finally, it is demonstrated that the model in Chen et al. (2000) represents a special case of the proposed model.

A model for the dynamical behavior of the magnetization of superparamagnetic particles is proposed and its solution is obtained for different circumstances and by different methods, based on the theory of stochastic processes. Initially the theory of stochastic processes and stochastic calculus is reviewed, with emphasis on Markoffian diffusive processes. For this class of processes we show how to use the Langevin equations to obtain physically relevant quantities, which are ensemble averages of realizations. This is an alternative method to the use of the corresponding Fokker-Planck equations. A new expression for the response function of linear response theory for stochastic processes is obtained. This new expression is appropriate for numerical simulations, based on the Langevin equation, without the need of solving the Fokker-Planck equations and the detailed balance conditions are not required. The model developed for the dynamics of superparamagnetic particles is more general than previous models which can be found in the literature because it allows for fluctuations in the magnitude of the magnetic moment. Detailed balance conditions are not satisfied. Ito as well as Stratonowich calculus are used to transform the Langevin equation in Cartesian coordinates into an equation in spherical coordinates an to obtain other analytical results. The response functions, in the zero noise limit, are calculated exactly by the use of the same expression from which we calculate numerically these functions in the presence of noise. These results are used as analytical tests for the numerical results obtained by simulation of the Langevin equations. The error theory for the numerical integration of the stochastic Langevin equations, particularly for the calculation of the response functions, is discussed. The results obtained in this way are physically plausible and mathematically reliable. For convenient values of the model's parameters its solution shows the phenomenon of stochastic resonance. The numerical simulation method shows to be an important alternative to the use of the Fokker-Planck equations and is sufficiently general to comprise a large class of systems out of equilibrium.

[en] PERIODIC STOCHASTIC MODEL BASED ON NEURAL NETWORKS / [pt] MODELO ESTOCÁSTICO PERIÓDICO BASEADO EM REDES NEURAISLUCIANA CONCEICAO DIAS CAMPOS 14 March 2011 (has links)
[en] Stochastic Process is a branch of probability theory which defines a set of
templates that allow the study of problems with random components. Many
real problems exhibit complex characteristics such as nonlinearity and chaotic
behavior, which require models capable of capture the real characteristics
of the problem for a appropriate treatment. However, existing models have
limited application to certain problems or because they are linear models
(whose application gets results inconsistent or inadequate) or because they
require a complex formulation or depend on a priori assumptions about the
behavior of the problem, which requires a knowledge the problem at a level
of detail that there is not always available. This motivated the development
of a model stochastic process based on neural networks, so that is generic
to be applied in a range of problems involving highly stochastic phenomena
of behavior and also can be applied to phenomena that have periodic characteristics.
As artificial neural networks are non-linear models, simple to
understand and implementation, able to capture behaviors of varied types
problems, then decided to use them as the basis of new model proposed
in this thesis, which is an intrinsically non-linear model, called the Neural
Stochastic Process. Through neural networks that stochastic process,
can adequately capture the behavior problems of the series of phenomena
with features highly stochastic and / or periodical. The goal is to use this
model to generate synthetic time series, equally likely to historical series,
in solution of various problems, eg problems phenomena involving climatology,
economic, among others. It was chosen as a case study of this thesis,
applying the model proposed in the treatment of monthly inflows in the
context of operation planning of the Brazilian hydrothermal system. The
Results showed that the process can Stochastic Neural generate synthetic
series of similar characteristics to the historical monthly inflow series.

Details on the deterministic and stochastic stabilization of an inverted pendulumPeretti, Débora Elisa January 2016 (has links)
In this work a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the dynamical stabilization of an inverted pendulum with a sinusoidal external perturbation applied at the suspension point is made. Initially, the external perturbation is composed of a single cosine, then a generalization is made using a sum of N cosines with different amplitudes and frequencies. Approximations are tested, and the time for which the inverted pendulum remains stable is explored when N is large, in order to recover the pattern of the case when N = 1. The specific case of periodic and almost periodic oscillations, when N = 2, is analysed and stability diagrams considering different frequencies and amplitudes are studied. Later, an additive Gaussian noise is added to the system so the degradation of the stability diagrams generated by different variances can be studied. All points of this work are corroborated by simulations, which numerically integrate the system’s equation of motion through a fourth order Runge-Kutta method. Algorithms and extra details on the integration methods used are explored in a publication of this work, which is presented in this thesis as an appendix.

natureza do processo

a literatura usa outras metodologias (freqüentemente
aproximações) que não o
filtro de Kalman. Esta tese trata de processos
estocásticos para preços de commodities propondo extensões
aos modelos existentes na literatura. A
Dentre as contribuições
Além disso, a
pesquisa apresenta: (i)
A tese
conclui que o filtro de
partículas, apesar ser computacionalmente intenso, é
viável na prática face ao
imenso desenvolvimento computacional. Ainda mais, por ser
uma metodologia
aplicável a problemas complexos de inferência, sua
utilização em modelos cada
vez mais sofisticados é muito promissora. / [en] The evolution of the ideas in Finance has been huge in the
last decades.
Nowadays the financial markets offer investors
sophisticated products. And
investors in turn demand reliable financial instruments to
meet their needs in
search for greater returns and lower risks. This
development is based mainly on
asset pricing methodologies. The greatest part of this
knowledge comes from the
seminal works of Black and Scholes (1973) and Merton
(1973). To summarize,
their works are based on the assumption of a specific
stochastic process that
governs asset prices. And then a derivative of this
underlying asset can be priced.
The nature of the stochastic process that describes the
evolution of prices is the
key point for deriving pricing formulae. The analysis of
the behavior of
commodity prices has two approaches. The first approach
considers prices as a
consequence of the equilibrium between supply and demand.
These models have
not received enough attention in literature. The second
approach, which has
received more attention, is based on the analysis of price
time series. The
commodities have particular features because they are most
of the times
negotiated in future markets. The consequence is that the
one factor models badly
describe their stylized facts. The factors (stochastic
variables) are known as state
variables which most of the times are non observables, and
need to be estimated.
When state variables are Gaussians and the observation
equation is linear in states,
the classical Kalman filter can be used to access these
variables. If non linearity is
present extended Kalman filter is used, but when state
variables are non Gaussian
the literature does not use filtering processes. This
thesis analyses the stochastic
processes of commodities proposing extensions to the
existing models. The
derivation of models is based on Duffie and Kan (1996)
transform, in a non
arbitrage environment. Some extensions are non Gaussian.
This thesis investigates
the estimation of these models using particle filter
methodology. The particle filter
is a recursive procedure for integration in the sequential
Monte-Carlo methods.
The advantage of this methodology is that it does not
require linear or Gaussian conditions. The contributions
of this research are the extensions of stochastic
processes that can be used for any commodity and the use
of particle filter as an
estimation methodology in Finance. Furthermore the thesis
presents: (i) the
conclusions about two factor models applied to oil prices;
(ii) the analysis of the
use of particle filter verifying that errors in both,
Kalman filter and particle filter
are close and that parameters estimation is in accordance
with the literature; (iii)
the analysis of the implementation of particle filter
showing that it is viable
considering the computational time of filtering and
parameters estimation. The
thesis concludes that the particle filter is viable,
although time consuming, due to
the hardware development. And more, since particle filter
is useful for complex
inference problems, its application to sophisticated
models is promising.
