This thesis aims to investigate the relationship of spirituality and religiosity with the wellbeing of adolescents, considering both subjective and psychological well-being. Six studies were developed. The first one is a Systematic Review that sought to verify the relationship between well-being and spirituality and religiosity among adolescents, based on empirical articles published in the last 5 years. We selected 26 articles that indicate that there is a relationship between these aspects, and that this is generally positive. Studies 2 to 4 present a psychometric evaluation of the following instruments: Psychological Well-being Scale, Duke Religious Index, and the Spirituality, Religion and Personal Beliefs module (WHOQOLSRPB). Study 5 investigates a hypothetical model of well-being among adolescents, composed of dimensions of subjective and psychological well-being. Study 6 seeks to investigate the relationship of spirituality and religiosity with the well-being of Brazilian adolescents. In the latter two studies, the possible differences in the measures used by age and sex are also analyzed. The sample of studies 2 to 6 was composed of 1,248 Brazilian adolescents aged 12 to 18 years (M = 15.09, SD = 1.77). The research was conducted online, through a website created specifically for this purpose. For study 4, 58 adolescents (M = 14.08, SD = 1.65) also participated in focus groups. For studies 5 and 6, in addition to the instruments already cited, a life satisfaction scale (BMLSS) and an affects scale (CAS) were used. The results of studies 2 to 4 indicated, in general, good overall fit indices for factor analysis (exploratory and confirmatory), as well as the invariance of instruments by sex and age. In study 5 we tested models of relations between subjective and psychological well-being through SEM. From the results, we opted for an integrated, single-factor model, explaining both measures. In study 6 the results indicated positive relations between spirituality and religiosity with the integrated model of well-being. Regarding the differences by means, for subjective well-being were found significant differences by sex (girls with larger means), and for psychological well-being differences by sex and age, with the results presented for each subscale. Regarding religiosity and spirituality there were differences both by sex and by age. In general, girls presented higher averages, and a pattern of age differences was not found. The conclusion is that the subjective and psychological well-being of adolescents are highly correlated and can be understood in an integrated model of well-being, and that both spirituality and religiosity have positive contributions to this well-being.

Psykologiskt välbefinnande hos skidgymnasieelever : En enkätstudieStenström, Hannes January 2020 (has links)
Studies have shown that elite athletes suffer from mental health problems in nearly the same extent as the population as a whole. Other data indicates that adolescents and young adults are groups that have a higher incidence of self-reported impaired psychological well-being than the general population. Swedish high-school athletes is a group whose mental health has not yet been investigated. This study inquired into the psychological well-being of this group and possible relationships between psychological well-being and gender, injuries and training volume. 49 students (25 females/24 males, mean age 18.6 years) admitted at six swedish skiing high schools with status from the Swedish Sports Confederation as national sports high schools filled out a web-based survey which mainly consisted of the instrument GHQ-12 (General Health Questionnaire-12). No statistically significant relationships between psychological well-being and gender, injuries and training volume were observed.

The Effects of Technostress through Virtual Meetings on Employee-levelObrovac Sandqvist, Stina, Persson, Julia, Åberg, Linda January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to contribute with new information within the research area, due to the low amount of secondary research regarding it. This thesis was conducted with a desire to gather primary data contributing to deeper knowledge and understanding of the gap between virtual meetings and technostress in relation to work-life balance, psychological well-being, and effectiveness. In order to conduct this research, a research design was developed in accordance with the field of research chosen to further investigate. A descriptive design with a deductive quantitative approach and the usage of an online survey sent out to a sample, with 107 valid responses, has enabled the completion of this thesis. For the analysis of the primary data collected for this study, the tool SPSS was used in order to investigate the correlations. This research concludes that a majority of the hypotheses are accurate and that technostress, in these hypotheses, does impact employees through virtual meetings in a negative way. The respondents felt that virtual meetings do in fact decrease their ability to obtain a healthy work-life balance, psychological well-being, and an effective standard. Therefore, the conclusion becomes highly recognizable as it contributes to fulfilling the distinguished gap.

Maternal and Paternal Psychological Well-Being and Child Behavior in JapanPoff, Jared 28 May 2021 (has links)
Understanding child behavioral outcomes is important because early behavioral issues can lead to negative outcomes that persist throughout the life course. One characteristic that can affect child behavioral outcomes is parental psychological well-being. While there have been many studies describing the effects of parental psychological well-being on child behavior in the US, the nature of this relationship in non-Western countries has yet to be thoroughly explored. There is also limited research that distinguishes between the effects of both maternal and paternal psychological well-being on child behavioral outcomes. Japan is an interesting area in which to examine this relationship due to unique contextual factors that might affect parental psychological well-being, such as Japanese-specific patterns of maternal and paternal involvement. Utilizing regression analysis, this study examines the relationship between paternal and maternal psychological health and child internalizing and externalizing behavioral outcomes using two complementary longitudinal datasets from Japan (JCPS and JHPS). I find that maternal and not paternal psychological well-being is associated with child internalizing and externalizing behavioral problems. This may be a product of fathers in Japan being less engaged in parenting or the intense relationship mothers are encouraged to develop with their children. Further research on this relationship can help in investigating the universality of Western findings related to paternal and maternal psychological health and child behavior.

Friends or Strangers? Modeling Types of In-game Relationship, Social Capital and Psychological Well-beingFeng, Shuang January 2021 (has links)
Online games are becoming more and more popular nowadays. Interacting with others in games has also become a channel for establishing or developing social relationships. In this article, the author conducted an online survey (N=165) to study the relationship between types of in-game relationships, social capital, and psychological well-being. In-game relationships mainly include two types: playing games with friends and playing games with strangers. The author used the framework of social capital, which includes bonding and bridging. Regarding psychological well-being, the author selected two indicators related to social aspects, namely loneliness and relatedness. The author constructs a structural equation model. The results show that playing with friends will enable bonding and bridging while playing with strangers will enable bridging. Second, two different social capitals can both increase players’ feelings of relatedness and reduce players’ feelings of loneliness. This shows that social relationships in online games have a certain impact on people's psychological well-being. This research also provides some information for game design and understanding of social relationships in games.

Working from home’s impact on Job Performance in the IT SectorAhmed, Fawwad, Farooqi, Zeeshan January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine which factors influence job performance for IT sector employees that are required to work from home indefinitely due to COVID-19. This study is based on a framework concerning themes such as working from home, performance, motivation, work-life balance, and psychological well-being. For the study, five IT sector employees that were required to work from home were interviewed to give the authors insight into the basis of the study. Previous studies mostly focused on IT sector employees working from home with the option of coming into the office; due to the sudden pandemic of COVID-19, there has not been much research regarding IT sector employees that are required to work from home indefinitely. Our most important findings show that employees are compensating their lack of in-person social interactions with spending time with family and using virtual apps to maintain their relationships with coworkers to provide a work-life balance. Working with coworkers has also given employees a sense of accountability that motivates them to do work. The virus, COVID-19 has impacted employees by mentally draining them which impacts their job performance. Ultimately, the idea of a job role perception and its impact on motivation and job performance is very subjective to the individual.

Teachers’ knowledge of their learners’ psychological well-being at a special school In Uthungulu DistrictOchiogu, Stella Ngozi January 2015 (has links)
A dissertation submitted to the Faculty of Education in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Educational Psychology in the Department of Educational Psychology and Special Needs Education at the University of Zululand, South Africa, 2015 / One of the objectives of setting up a special needs school system in South Africa (SA) was to ensure that children with learning disabilities and special needs are part of a full service, inclusive education system. In SA, special needs education can be traced back to the Apartheid during which learners were segregated on the basis of their race, colour, ethnicity and disability. The apartheid policy allowed for well-resourced schools for white disabled learners and very few under-resourced schools for disabled learners from other population groups i.e. Blacks, Indian and Coloured. Children with learning disabilities (LD) have problems beyond reading, writing, mathematics, memory and organisational skills, to mention a few. Problems may include a deep sense of anger, sadness, shame and frustration which could lead to poor psychological well-being. Often affected learners present with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and other psychological concerns. Teaching learners with special needs require skills which include proper knowledge about learners, wants and aspirations. The differences may also include cultural, gender, social and economic background. These differences influence how each learner relates and adapts to developmental milestones, cognitive & language development and psychological well-being. It should then be emphasised that every teacher, especially those who deal with learners with disabilities, needs assistance or information that will help them develop instructional programmes that enhance maximum functionality of each learner, particularly those with disabilities. The aims of the study were to assess teachers’ knowledge about the psychological well-being of their learners; and also to establish whether or not there is a relationship if any, between teachers’ demographical data and levels of knowledge. This study sampled thirty (30) teachers teaching at the special needs school, using a standardized structured quantitative questionnaire. The conclusions reached were that teachers at a special needs school did not possess adequate levels of knowledge about their learners’ psychological well-being. It was also established that there was a statistical significant association between their selected demographics and knowledge level of teachers.
