An Historical Analysis of the Macquarie Broadcasting Service Pty. Ltd., Sydney, Australia, 1938-1958

Aipperspach, Ruth G. 05 1900 (has links)
Australia's dual system of broadcasting has provided national and commercial radio services to Australians in both urban and remote areas. Networks were formed to serve these areas, but advertising agencies tended to dominate smaller commercial networks on behalf of their clients. Most of these failed. The Macquarie Broadcasting Service Pty. Ltd. (MBS) network began in 1938 and offered network programming and sales representation to stations affiliating with them. Its subsidiary, Artransa Pty. Ltd., also produced and syndicated programs and provided sales representation both nationally and internationally. This study concludes that MBS' contribution to Australian commercial broadcasting was the development of networking and that it had the greater listenership of any commercial network in this time period.

Jazyková stránka projevů moderátorů pořadu Klub Rádia Junior / Linguistic features of speakers of Klub Rádio Junior

Machurová, Martina January 2017 (has links)
The following diploma thesis addresses linguistic speech in the children's program at the Radio Junior Club. The first section describes verbal expressions, defines basic theoretical concepts related to the stratification of Czech language, defines child listeners with a focus on the pre-school development period as well as the primary and middle school period and also explains the concept of child-oriented speech. The structure of Czech Radio and individual programs at Radio Junior with emphasis on the Radio Junior Club are described at the end of the theoretical section. The practical section contains two analyses describing the moderator's language and how it is responded to positively according to sound level, lexicology, morphology and syntax. The recordings were taken from the Czech Radio archive and the ORAL2013 transcriptional system, which was adapted for analysis purposes, was used to transcribe the spoken language. The results of the analyses were compared and generalized along with findings in expert literature.

Job Rating and Satisfaction of Radio Station General Managers in the Institutional Climate of Deregulation

Loomis, Kenneth D. (Kenneth Dwight) 05 1900 (has links)
This study tested the job satisfaction of major market radio station general managers in the aftermath of deregulation. The study consisted of two phases, a quantitative, anonymous, mail survey utilizing the nationally recognized Job Descriptive Index (JDI); and a qualitative follow-up telephone interview. Of 246 general managers solicited, 144 returned usable JDI surveys. The JDI consisted of six separate scales, each measuring satisfaction on a different aspect of the job. The followup telephone interview comprised seven questions designed specifically to explore the effects of broadcast deregulation on the respondents. Two hypotheses were tested. The hypotheses tested for differences in job satisfaction scores between radio station general managers and the normative scores of individuals of similar education and job tenure in other industries. In most of the subscales tested there was no significant difference between the two groups. The qualitative telephone survey found widespread dissatisfaction with the effects of deregulation on the broadcast medium.

Rozhlasové vysílání československé exilové vlády a jeho instrumentalizace holocaustu v letech 1939-1945 / Radio broadcasting of the Czechoslovak government in exile and its instrumentalisation of the Holocaust in 1939-1945

Horáková, Denisa January 2020 (has links)
My master's thesis, entitled "The Radio Broadcasting of the Czechoslovakian Government-in- Exile and instrumentalization of the Holocaust in 1939-1945" explores the instrumentalization of the Holocaust when it comes to radio broadcasting by the Czechoslovakian government-in- exile in London during World War II. My thesis deals with exile governments and the development of the Czechoslovakian government-in-exile in London until its recognition by world powers. The text also rests on the operation and formation of radio broadcasts, as well as on the use of propaganda during World War II. The most important part of this thesis is chapter four, where I examine the radio broadcasts of politicians-in-exile on the Holocaust. It is here that I scrutinize primary sources ascertained from the Czech Radio Archive. In conclusion, I summarize the answers to the research questions asked.

An inquiry into the meaning of the phrase "In the public interest" as it applies to radio programs

Ludlow, Jim Hand 01 January 1948 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this problem is to give further meaning to the phrase ''in the public interest" as it applies to radio programs. This study will answer the following questions: What are the opinions of the Federal Communications Commission on broadcasting in the public interest? What are the opinions of authorities recognized by broadcasters on the meaning of "in the public interest"? What are the opinions of some station managers in California on the meaning of the phrase "in the public interest"? What services can radio programs give the listener that might be termed "in the public interest"? In the opinions of station managers in the United States are the services radio programs give, as determined by the listening surveys, in the public interest?

The American Federation of Musicians' Recording Ban, 1942-1944, and its Effect on Radio Broadcasting in the United States

Austin, Mary M. 05 1900 (has links)
James Caesar Petrillo, President of the American Federation of Musicians, called a strike effective July 31, 1942, prohibiting union members from making any disc recordings or electrical transcriptions. The present study recounts the history of that strike, including efforts to end it, reactions to it by various government and trade organizations and the circumstances under which it finally did end. The study focuses on the effect of the strike on radio broadcasters, both directly (through recordings they used) and indirectly (through the strike's effects on the recording and related industries), and concludes that it changed the character of radio's music somewhat, but had little detrimental effect on radio's profits.

Texas Outlaw Radio: the Prelude to United States v. Gregg et al. (1934)

Aipperspach, Mac R. (Mac Ray) 05 1900 (has links)
Unlicensed radio stations in 1933 tested the Radio Act of 1927 as to whether or not the Federal Radio Commission (FRC) had the right to regulate radio stations whose signals were allegedly intrastate. The FRC believed it could regulate such radio stations and proceeded to confiscate equipment, charge individuals with violation of the law, and bring them to trial, either in an injunction hearing, a criminal trial, or both. The most formidable case was that of United States v. Gregg et al. The challenge was met by the FRC and the judge, whose decision is still quoted in legal documents. The decision upheld the Radio Act of 1927 and the FRC's right to regulate all radio stations, licensed or unlicensed.

Dissertation Transformation of a profession of a news editor in the Czechoslovak/Czech Radio describes a formation and development of a newsroom in Czechoslovak and later Czech Radio and the development of its employees' job content in connection with technological progress, ideology, organization, but also with the amount and structure of news' content. The thesis begins with the birth of first Czech Radio station called Radiojournal and year 1923, despite the fact that the news were prepared by Czech News Agency at that time. A big part of the thesis deals with the period, when Czechoslovak Radio began to prepare its own news. Author focuses on a connection between the Radio and Communists Party of Czechoslovakia, the role of radio news coverage in the years 1948, 1968 and 1989, which are very important to Czech history in the 20th century and deals with then censorship as well. The thesis also tries to illustrate an atmosphere and working environment in the newsroom.
