Nesse sentido, o principal foco do trabalho está na tentativa de se aferir como esses imigrantes da colônia espanhola em Franca conseguiram se adaptar a uma nova cidade e, nesse sentido, quais foram as estratégias às quais recorreram para poderem sobreviver e se ajudarem num novo território / This work intends to perform a study on the Spanish immigration in Franca, a city in the State of São Paulo, between the years of 1900 and 1955. Several factors, among the political, economical and social, may have caused the arrival of the Spaniards to the areas of the State of São Paulo, who owned the largest coffee plantations. However, a great part of them found situations different from the ones which they expected and, because of that, they created mechanisms which made possible not only the adaptation in a new territory, but also the insertion and mutual help. In this sense, the main focus of the work is on the attempt to measure how these immigrants from the Spanish colony in Franca could adapt themselves to a new city and, in this sense, what the strategies to which they made used to survive were and help mutually in a new territory

We maintain a reflection on teaching opportunities to consider the construction of new discursive practices around discipline history from the perspective of interdiscursivity. The construction of research tried a characterization of discourse studies, especially the French Discourse Analysis, with theoretical anchorage Orlandi (2002/ 2007), Pêcheux (1977/1999), Maingueneau (2014), Brandão (2003), Ferreira, (2015), Maldidier (1994), Silva (2003), Gregolin (2004), Althier-Revuz (1982/1990), among others. Further, for an analytical description of the discourse of history as a science and development are consulted authors such as Le Goff (1997), Tétart (2000), Bloch (2001), Nadai (1993), Schmidt (2012), Bittencourt (2011) , Abud (2011); making himself still essential to understand the proposals and didactic guidelines brought in textbooks textbooks: Know and Do History and History: Society & citizenship; History in the National Curriculum Parameters (PCN) and the Pedagogical Political Project (PPP) school. Then the speeches are presented socially crystallized on the History docks in authors such as Fonseca (1997), Oriya (2006), Albuquerque (2007), Bittencour (2004) Beloved (1990), Zamboni (1991) and Neves (2002 ), demonstrating the importance of history teaching in elementary school, as well as the use of local and regional history as enablers in the process of teaching and learning. From these considerations, a semi-structured interview questionnaire was designed and applied to teachers and students of the 6th year, the PFIC I school - Ducks / PB and from then on we created a proposal for intervention, via guiding text, in order to bring a discursive reframing the discipline of teaching with the use of local and regional history.

To that end, a comparative study had been made between two remarkable periods of Brazilian history, the first from 1930 to 1950 and the second from 1998 to 2008. This timeline has been established on the basis that the first temporal mark, Brazil experienced an intense process of reflection on the regional issues, at that time sought to build a reference on the Brazilian citizen, as well as setting benchmarks for the understanding of a national ethos. Later, from the 1990s, the regional issue is taken up in a new perspective, focusing on aspects of their culture and seeking new interpretations of economic processes and about the region. This study sought to understand how debates concerning the regional history are presented in the textbooks, in both periods referenced above. Thus, we selected a textbook produced for each of the decades mentioned: Jonathan Serrano, History of Brazil, edition of 1931; Rocha Pombo, History of Brazil, 1943 edition; Joaquim Silva, Brazil's History, 1959 edition, and by finally, Boulos Jr., History, Society & Citizenship, 2006 edition. The production of these books relate to the contexts experienced by the Brazilian education with its main pedagogical debates. We also seek to point out the changes that the real teaching history has experienced, as well as to investigate the influence that education policies have focused on the production of historical knowledge in school. We understand that textbooks are works of complex composition involving different actors in their production, marketing and distribution, but mainly because they allow a wide diffusion of a worldview, a cultural history. However, the many possibilities of his interpretation give them a cultural and social dimension difficult to measure, able to reveal unique aspects of the history of national education.

The period chosen starts in 1855, the year of the foundation of the referred newspaper and of the arrival of the cholera to the Brazilian territory, and ends in 1864, when the second and last outbreak of this disease happens in the 19th century Crato and before the last year of circulation of the newspaper. This dissertation has as inspiration the Historiography of Diseases, mainly developed in the last decades of the 20th century, due to the dialogue between History and other disciplines such as Sociology and Anthropology. The studies developed by this historiography have shown how the phenomenon of the diseases exceeds the domain of the natural, in that they are experienced from many different contexts and spaces, being socio-culturally interpreted by the historical subjects that start multiple representations and practices with the purpose to attribute meaning to these.

Gouws, Claudia January 2013 (has links)
The settlement history of the Vredefort Dome can be described as a process of cultural development. The Vaal River hydrosphere, which was for many years a prestigious settlement site, initially attracted large scale game and later livestock farmers. The drifts were a central part of a network of early strategic communication routes and outspans. From 1838, pioneer settlement, farm occupation and agricultural development followed, and the area eventually entered an agriculture-mining era. Gold-mining stimulated the regional economy and also played a significant role in the development of towns in the area. The Vaal River did not play a significant role from a mining perspective, but featured more prominently in the development of villages and, in a sense, served as a political boundary. The location of the water source often determined where people settled permanently. It also decided the position of the house and yard. From the outset, riparian dwellers attempted to manipulate the flow of the river by creating dams and utilising water for irrigation and domestic purposes. Drought conditions also left historical traces; water management projects upstream transformed the Vaal River into a steadily flowing stream, which led to the economic and cultural segregation of north and south. Man's fear associated with drought (too little water), floods (too much water), meteorology (the necessity of water), and the role of the supernatural (divining water) and superstition (the water snake stories) were expressed in the interaction between people and this water environment. A wide variety of people with distinct cultures lived alongside each other in the area. Western and African cultural goods, as well as customs and beliefs, were mutually adopted by these different cultural groups as a result of this contact. The way land has been used in the Dome area has evolved over the years. The culling of game made way for the permanent establishment of the livestocktravelling farmer. Hereafter prolonged drought conditions destroyed pastures and, consequently, large areas of land were ploughed for agricultural use. Agriculture, which is more labour intensive and needs more water for irrigation, was replaced by game farming, which is less labour intensive and requires less water This world heritage site has drawn global interest and ecotourism has attracted visitors to the Vaal River area. The riparian dwellers, however, remain victims of up-stream industrial and sewage pollution; in future, they are likely to fall prey to acid mine water pollution, with disastrous consequences. / PhD (History), North-West University, Vaal Triangle Campus, 2013

Byzantium and the Bosporus : regionality, identity, institutions

Russell, T. J. January 2013 (has links)
This thesis presents a historical study of the relationship between the city of ancient Byzantium and the Thracian Bosporus. Structured around the themes of regional particularity and identity, it shows that local studies can be used to gain fresh insights into more general topics. Viewed through the lens of the relationship between strait and city, the history of the Bosporus sheds light on the nature of economic exploitation and ancient imperialism, and on the nature of ancient communities’ local identities. Chapter 1 explores regionally specific geographical features in the strait, which directed and determined responses to life in the area, around which the regional economy revolved, and in response to which the identities of the local communities were created. Chapters 2 and 3 examine the history of economic exploitation of the region, exploring the attitude of the Athenian Empire toward the Bosporus, and the attempt by the local communities of the Bosporus to create a controlled monetary system in the third century BC. These efforts to exploit local opportunities and commodities, I show, transformed the Bosporus into an attractive economic resource. Chapter 4 examines the local fishing industries of the strait, and demonstrates that the extraordinary availability of fish in the region provoked responses which could not be emulated precisely elsewhere. The thesis also shows that the cultural identity of a Greek city could be intensely local. Byzantium, a Greek colony typically characterized by its relationship to its mother-city, had a series of important local identities, explored in chapter 1. From this perspective, chapter 5 re-examines the difficult relationship between Greeks and Thracians in the region, and chapter 6 questions the validity of the traditional view of the relationship between a colony and its mother-city.
