Trabalho, terra e capital no sul de Minas em transição / Work, land and capital in the South of Minas in transition

Pinheiro, Rafaela Carvalho 13 March 2017 (has links)
Embora as cidades tenham ganhado importância nesse processo, as propriedades e atividades rurais ainda conservaram sua predominância, tendo as fábricas ainda pouca substância. / The South of Minas Gerais went through a process of transition to the peculiar twentieth century, with profound economic and social changes, such as the modernization of its cities, the reorganization of the productive structure with free labor, the coffee rise as an important item production and large increase in railway lines. Thus, this paper aims to discuss three aspects of South of Minas Gerais transition: labor, land and capital. Therefore, the use of inventory and partition sharing processes to three locations in the region, Campanha, Pouso Alegre and Varginha, as well as published journals in these cities in the period from 1880 to 1900. After the abolition of the labor available encompassed both freed as national white plus immigrants, especially Italians. Although cities have gained importance in this process, properties and rural activities still retained their dominance. The credit system in these locations was undeveloped, a fact that gave rise to local lenders, capitalists, that the limit dictated the direction of the development of these cities.

Gouws, Claudia January 2013 (has links)
The settlement history of the Vredefort Dome can be described as a process of cultural development. The Vaal River hydrosphere, which was for many years a prestigious settlement site, initially attracted large scale game and later livestock farmers. The drifts were a central part of a network of early strategic communication routes and outspans. From 1838, pioneer settlement, farm occupation and agricultural development followed, and the area eventually entered an agriculture-mining era. Gold-mining stimulated the regional economy and also played a significant role in the development of towns in the area. The Vaal River did not play a significant role from a mining perspective, but featured more prominently in the development of villages and, in a sense, served as a political boundary. The location of the water source often determined where people settled permanently. It also decided the position of the house and yard. From the outset, riparian dwellers attempted to manipulate the flow of the river by creating dams and utilising water for irrigation and domestic purposes. Drought conditions also left historical traces; water management projects upstream transformed the Vaal River into a steadily flowing stream, which led to the economic and cultural segregation of north and south. Man's fear associated with drought (too little water), floods (too much water), meteorology (the necessity of water), and the role of the supernatural (divining water) and superstition (the water snake stories) were expressed in the interaction between people and this water environment. A wide variety of people with distinct cultures lived alongside each other in the area. Western and African cultural goods, as well as customs and beliefs, were mutually adopted by these different cultural groups as a result of this contact. The way land has been used in the Dome area has evolved over the years. The culling of game made way for the permanent establishment of the livestocktravelling farmer. Hereafter prolonged drought conditions destroyed pastures and, consequently, large areas of land were ploughed for agricultural use. Agriculture, which is more labour intensive and needs more water for irrigation, was replaced by game farming, which is less labour intensive and requires less water This world heritage site has drawn global interest and ecotourism has attracted visitors to the Vaal River area. The riparian dwellers, however, remain victims of up-stream industrial and sewage pollution; in future, they are likely to fall prey to acid mine water pollution, with disastrous consequences. / PhD (History), North-West University, Vaal Triangle Campus, 2013

Caun, Elaine Cristina. January 2010 (has links)
Especially, picture of the new urban experiences by the character of Antônio Soares Romêo, city‟s engineer (1913-1923). The stamp of public works organizer ensured Antônio Soares Romêo an image of benefactor and renewer of the place. Given his social status of literate and refined man, Soares Romêo took part in Ribeirão Preto‟s society among the coffee elite men and, quickly, reached the city‟s engineer public office. Ribeirão Preto‟s urbanization, as in other countryside towns in São Paulo state, has developed in an ambiguous form, grounded in an extremely diffuse environment, rude and full of nuances. In this environment, the engineer built and controlled the public works for the interest of all population and at the same time architected private residences which aimed to please the wishes and tastes of the coffee elite, eager to experience an European atmosphere in the open countryside of São Paulo State / Mestre

Josef Sakař - život a dílo kněze, pedagoga a historika / Josef Sakař - life and work of a priest, educator and historian

SUDOVÁ, Martina January 2017 (has links)
This work deals with the life and work of historian, educator, and priest Josef Sakař. Josef Sakař is one of the most prominent Týn nad Vltavou natives. His monumental four-volume work, The History of the town Tyn nad Vltavou and the Surrounding Area, includes the building blocks of South Bohemian regional history. Even though the greater balance of the work was written in the 1930s, to this day it has not been surpassed. Pardubice, like Týn nad Vltavou, owes much to Josef Sakař. It is the city where he spent most of his productive years and where he worked as a secondary school teacher. He wrote his major works here, among them a six-volume history of Pardubice nad Labem. Josef Sakař's activity was more than merely regional: for his efforts to protect historical monuments he was appointed (as the only one of thirty candidates from across the country) an honorary member of the Club for Old Prague in 1925.This thesis analyzes and compares sources, and it determines the importance and value of key events, family ties, friends and personalities that influenced Josef Sakař's life. For 21st-century educators, the thesis looks for inspiration that can be taken from his life and works. The work focuses on Josef Sakař's relationships with relatives, his life's story and activities in Týn nad Vltavou and Pardubice. It is organized chronologically, from his birth to his death. The last part concerns itself with seeking traces of evidence of Josef Sakař in contemporary life. A separate section is devoted to an analysis of four of his key works. The work includes all biographical data and important life milestones of Josef Sakař and contains a complete bibliography.
