Von wissenschaftlicher Suche und religiöser Antwort: Eine systemtheoretische Positionsbestimmung des Intelligent Design

Heinrich, Thomas 20 January 2023 (has links)

A theological analysis of what sin would be in virtual reality

Nortjé, Johannes Andries 11 1900 (has links)
The genre affiliation is a postmodern study: Virtual Reality (VR) becomes a comprehensive concept, in the face of modernism's illusion, when rhetoric validates all discourses. All is VR. The study is in three sections with an overall introduction and conclusion: the first section introduces VR in its postmodern setting, the second section establishes the postmodern timeless/spaceless paradigm of HyperReality in which all Hermeneutics are being done from, the last section draws the paradigm into the Creatio Ex Nihilio discourse of the Scriptures. The proposed theological model is an intratextual theological model, however when YAHWEH precedes language then all discourses become intratextually part of the Biblical discourse. Human creativity is a metaphorical journey; the Fall was the outset of two languages, one in the presence of YAHWEH, while the other one void of this presence led to a nihilistic abstract constellation. Sin in VR is the unbiblical appropriation of this constellation. / Thesis (M.Th.)

The Unitarian physiologist : science and religion in the life and work of William Benjamin Carpenter (1813-1885)

Delorme, Shannon January 2016 (has links)
This thesis provides the first comprehensive study of an eminent but oft-overlooked Victorian polymath, with the overarching aims of assessing his contributions to nineteenth-century intellectual life and of exploring the mutual relations between science and religion in his work. One of the towering figures of the Victorian scientific establishment, William Carpenter (1813-1885), F.R.S, was a famous physiologist and public figure. He is most remembered for his concept of 'unconscious cerebration' which contributed to the emergence of the disciplines of neurology and modern psychology, but Carpenter was also noted amongst his peers for his evolutionary approach to the study of the unicellular marine invertebrates known as the foraminifera. As a lifelong practicing Unitarian, Carpenter's outspoken support for evolutionary theory made him an exemplary advocate of the compatibility between rational thought and Christian belief amidst the Victorian debate about science and religion. As the Registrar of the University of London during its formative years, Carpenter also had a nationwide impact on the fortunes of scientific education and secondary education as a whole. Finally, as a populariser of science and public moralist, "Dr. Carpenter" was also well known to the Victorian public as one of the most outspoken critics of spiritualism, alleged paranormal phenomena, and superstition more generally. Nevertheless, no systematic study of Carpenter's work had until now been carried out, and the commonly held view that he lacked originality as a scientist had not been fully questioned. The current study therefore aims to review Carpenter's achievements and trace his intellectual legacy. As an intellectual biography, it argues that focusing on the now lesser-known members of the British intelligentsia can shine new light on the context of the professionalization of science in Victorian Britain. In its focus on science and religion, this thesis argues that a deeper understanding of Carpenter's Unitarianism must feature at the heart of any endeavour to analyse his work. Previous references to Carpenter either bypassed Unitarianism and its nineteenth-century transformations, or reduced Unitarian thought to certain core tenets that fell short of uncovering Carpenter's philosophical pursuits. Carpenter's Unitarianism is still often equated with the rationalism and mortalism that defined late eighteenth-century Unitarianism, and this failure to recognise how much Carpenter's own faith had departed from earlier strands of Unitarian belief has led to some misinterpretations of his motives. The current thesis therefore offers fresh interpretations of Carpenter's work, based on new archival material and recent historical studies of the shifting priorities shaping the more romantic and emotional spirituality of nineteenth-century Unitarianism. Taking an integrative approach to Carpenter's various projects makes it possible to show how seminal many of his ideas were, and how his Unitarianism, both in its social and spiritual dimensions, influenced his professional, political and intellectual choices. The biographical angle taken in this thesis also makes it possible to uncover a degree of epistemological coherence underpinning Carpenter's thought, and to argue that Carpenter's efforts to transcend conflicting viewpoints partook of his wider social and metaphysical aims.

H.P. Blavatsky's Theosophy in context : the construction of meaning in modern Western esotericism

Rudbøg, Tim January 2012 (has links)
H.P. Blavatsky’s (1831-1891) Theosophy has been defined as central to the history of modern Western spirituality and esotericism, yet to this date no major study has mapped and analysed the major themes of Blavatsky’s writings, how Blavatsky used the concept ‘Theosophy’ or to what extent she was engaged with the intellectual contexts of her time. Thus the purpose of this thesis is to fill this gap. The proposed theoretical framework is based on the centrality of language in the production of intellectual products, such as texts—but contrary to the dominant focus on strategies, rhetoric and power this thesis will focus on the construction of meaning coupled with a set of methodological tools based on contextual analysis, intellectual history and intertextuality. In addition to an overview of Blavatsky research this thesis will map and analyse Blavatsky’s use of the concept ‘Theosophy’ as well as Blavatsky’s primary discourses, identified as: (1) discourse for ancient knowledge, (2) discourse against Christian dogmatism, (3) discourse against the modern natural sciences and materialism, (4) discourse against modern spiritualism, (5) discourse for system and (7) discourse for universal brotherhood. In mapping and analysing Blavatsky’s discourses, it was found that her construction of meaning was significantly interconnected with broader intellectual contexts, such as ‘modern historical consciousness’, ‘critical enlightenment ideas’, studies in religion, studies in mythology, the modern sciences, spiritualism, systemic philosophy, reform movements and practical ethics. It, for example, becomes clear that Blavatsky’s search for an ancient ‘Wisdom Religion’ was actually a part of a common intellectual occupation during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and that her critique of the Christian dogmas was equally a common intellectual trend. To read Blavatsky’s discourses as the idiosyncratic strategies of an esotericist, isolated from their larger contexts or only engaged with them in order to legitimise minority views would therefore largely fail to account for the result of this thesis: that in historical actuality, they were a part of the larger cultural web of meaning.

Mystik und Koinonia: Das ekklesiologisch-missiologische potential mystischer spiritualitat / Mysticism and Koinonia: The ecclesiological and missiological potential of mystical spirituality

Breidenbach, Roy 02 1900 (has links)
This work mainly asks for the potential of christian mysticism for the Ekklesia, Koinonia and the mission of the Church. In order to this, it is considered that the term mysticism is difficult to grasp by definition, for there is no clear definition of the term mysticism. Due to this fact irritations and misunderstandings are caused, especially in the protestant and evangelical Christianity, that have no traditional anchoring of mysticism in their life of faith, as it is the case in the catholic Church for example. At this point, the work at hand defines in an afferent first part, what christian mysticism is, in distinction to esoteric phenomena or non-christian mysticism. The following part asks for the practical forms of christian mysticism with reference to four selected samples of spiritual exercises. At this place, psychological issues are considered too, as well as the question for the mystagogy. In the next part of this work, the relationship between the christian mysticism and Koinonia, Ekklesia and the mission of the Church will be considered. At this point, the occurance of community as a connecting element for these issues is in the focus of interest. Finally, this work outlines a mystical ecclesiology, as it is now possible and conceivable on the basis of the foregoing considerations. The potential of christian mysticism for church development and the mission of the church will be clarified, as well as the need for empirical research and testing of the shown theory by some practical suggestions.

Dirson Maciel de Barros 04 November 2008 (has links)
This Work aims meanly at demonstrating that there are not so great divergences between biblical Creationism and Evolution Theory, as we look onto the fact on its whole, in view of Fr. Teilhard de Chardins Transformism, i. e. without disregarding Science, but with a biblical deep knowledge in which it could be possible detecting up scientific truth, revealing itself in a such way that turns possible seeing and feeling deep unity, fusion between matter and spirit. Regarding to biblical Creationism, we have assumed, we have undertaken presenting the two narratives in reference to Creation, described in Genesis and some hermeneutic interpretations about them the two narrations as weel as our adoption, acceptance with regards to second narration in Old and New Testament. As for Evolution Theory, we have been concerned focusing the scientifical viewpoints, with natural divergences among them, in order to make possible a better comprehension, understanding regarding to such a theory content that strives showing up the way human being arose in earth, through a large events, accurences chain, series until Homo Sapiens inexplicable appearance. Since we have delt with we have discussed this equilibrium possibility between these two themes, through Teilhardian transformism, that enables us seeing very clearly that Evolutions missing link is Gods Breath that moves on, through complexity consciousness, that leap, jump, inexplicable for Science, moving on the so longed for equilibrium

Ciência e cinema: um encontro didático pedagógico em Anjos e Demônios e O Nome da Rosa / Science and cinema: an educational didactic meeting with Angels and Demons and The Name of the Rose

Silva Junior, Nelson 22 February 2018 (has links)
The Cinema as a way of represent and perceive the world and the man, besides important artistic language, became determining factor for mass communication of the twentieth century. As such, it started appropriate of the different areas of knowledge, in order to create scripts and narratives that approximate the cinematographic artistic poetics of the everyday phenomena of the nature and human existence, approaching the Cinematographic Art of a supposed reality. This relation allows the creation of movies that, besides of pure and simple entertaning, make it possible to use them in different forms of learning. From this perspective, this research had as a main purpose, develop and submit a proposal in wich the entertainment Cinema be an instrument of teaching Physics and the History of Science. For this purpose, the movies Angels and Demons (2009) and The Name of the Rose (1986), entertainment movies, audience hits that present among their main themes the History of Science and the relations between Science and Religion. Each one of the movies works narratives that involve the Scientific Knowledge. This research proposes that the Cinema be understood in the classroom as an artistic language, with their specificities and not as a simple complementary form to a theme or a content. Our proposal focuses on film analysis that present the cinematographic work as a Science learning tool, in particular, the History of Science. So, methodologically, the research occurred from two main axes: the film analysis from the presented theory by Erwin Panofsky in his book Meaning in the Visual Arts (2007), denominated Panofsky method, iconological or social history and the historiographic study in the History of Science, presented by the professor Ubiratan D’Ambrósio (2004). The research contributes, in a inedited way, so that the Cinema or movies made to the Cinema can be understood as an artistic language that make it possible to the subjects involved in the process of Teaching and Learning to use the resources of language as pedagogical and didactic instrument for the classes of Physics or Sciences.
