The concept of self-comprehension of the Catholic Church is related to the idea or view that the Church makes about itself. We could also consider what would be the Church s opinion about itself at a certain time in the past, and the self-image it used to pass to social groups, and what was the Church s opinion about those different groups. This concept is applied to understand the Church in the post-council context and the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement. The Roman Catholic Church is an institution that exists for over 20 centuries and it is a fundamental element to comprehend the Brazilian culture, for it has been noticed since the beginning of our colonization. The aim of this text is to point out an overview of how the Roman Catholic Church comprehends itself and the world, specially the social context after the Second Vatican Council by the end of the 20th century; draw a brief overview of the Church in Brazil; analyze how the Catholic Charismatic movement has been established since its arrival in Brazil; analyze the Church s view of the CCR(Catholic Charismatic Renewal). Our studies consists in a historical study of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Brazil from its arrival to the end of the 20th century. We also studied how the Brazilian Catholicism behaved after the Second Vatican Council, understanding the self-comprehension of the Church at that time, and the reasons that lead the Catholic Charismatic Renewal to a great expansion through the Brazilian territory

The objective of this study is to understand the charismatic discourse and its influence on the followers’ lives, together with the construction of both religious and gender identities. It is believed that the construction of the charismatic identity is determined by gender identity considering it is created through an internalization process, which changes into habitus, an “incorporated disposition”, a new voluntary attitude of the norms of the movement that meets various pre-existing aspects of gender identity. Thus a thorough investigation about the means of dissemination of the movement involving books and audio visual materials from Canção Nova Community was conducted, in addition to a ten-month field study at Hesed Community in São Carlos aiming at understanding people’s search for the Holy world. This stage of the study comprised observation of followers during several events at Hesed Community, a cell of Canção Nova Community, interviews with the participants, and a brief visit to Canção Nova Community headquarters. Throughout this research, it could be observed that the charismatic identity is based on gender relations and, despite the restrictions on various social and moral issues imposed on both men and women, the latter are the most affected. The Charismatic Renewal makes women believe that to reach salvation, they need to free themselves from the sin of Eve, the one who did not behave according to the rules given by God. Thus based on these dichotomic concepts, virgin/mother and sensual/woman, the charismatic identity sets the norms to be followed by the members. It could be concluded that the charismatic supposedly search for fixed identities, which make them feel safe in the individualized society and establish group identity. However, in the presence of ultraconservative doctrines they, in most occasions, manage such doctrinary issues according to their ...(Complete abstract click electronic address below)

After observations and reports between prayer groups of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) in a provincial city in São Paulo state, it was found that some individuals said they had been touched by a power (CHAUÍ, 2000) more intensely. Such episodes, which started at 90's, reproduced a point of tension emerged by the clash between the rules of conduct established by RCC and uncontrollable experiences by those who had experienced. It could be observed the emergence of groups that started meetings - called prayer vigils in the hills - out of religious temple, a kind of control of demonstrations, in order to avoid estrangement with the institution site which were linked (or Parish Church). This research proposes to make an ethnography that aims to describe the prayer vigils in the hills, to understand who these people are that despite claiming be Catholics, live your own rituals outside the Church Established space. From the understanding that the sacred experience is part of the anthropological experience, is expected to contribute to the study of new forms of belief and experience the religious phenomena in contemporary times.

This study aim was to comprehend the historical trajectory of the Catholic Charismatic Renovation (RCC) in Brazil. / The specifying of the consisting Brazilian Catholicism from the combination of diversified principles of religious systems, and through the organization of this society attributes to it specific characteristics, has guaranteed the survival of an ample and varied fan of religious experiences. After Ecumenical Conciliate II (1962-1965), these experiences had been reevaluated; facing the position of re-aiming directed toward the popular mass, once, the Brazilian religious scene revealed pluralism and competitiveness, mainly in the years of 1980 and 1990. Among the changes occurred in the Church, based on the lines established for Vatican Conciliate II (1962-1965), we have: the Base Eclectic Communities, the Theology of the Release and the Charismatic Renewal Catholic, outstand in this work. The trend and position of this last one conciliate revealed itself conservative, when it started to institutionalize and to norm some of these popular religious experiences. In an attempt to recover the construction of the c catholic conservative process, this work looks forward to study the charismatic religious experience, through the institutionalization of some of these religious experiences molded and guided by the Charismatic Renewal Catholic, from a specific position and model: the Seminaries of Life in the Holly Spirit, that in this work had been appreciated from the church in Marília- a country city in the State of São Paulo, studying here particularly the representative ness of Adamantina city (SP) in the Brazilian religious scene. Representation here, demonstrated and interpreted from the analysis of interviews carried through with a group of participants of seminaries, among the years of 1997 and 2003, made possible through the verbal methodology.

This research tries to investigate the social meaning of Maria's image representation to the Catholic women life from Campinas. The Catholic Carismatic Renovation is a movement of laymen that occurs in the own catholicism and that approaches in some aspects of pentecostalism when emphasize the possibility of the followers to get spiritual powers. The main objective of this work is to analyze the interdiscursive relation that constitutes and traverses two religious movements of the Roman Catholic Church: Theology of Liberation (TL) and Catholic Charismatic Renovation (CCR). Thus, it presents a study of the global semantics of these two positions. Based on the relation between different planes of discourse (practices, ethos, scenography, deixis, intertextuality and polemic), it tries to verify how the space of exchanges (interdiscourse) that precedes the genesis of the discourses of TL and CCR is constituted. In this way, the global semantic study based on the analysis of different textual traces is considered as an index that helps you to understand the operation of the discourse. The central axis of the discussions in this research is situated in the notion of global semantics, proposed by Maingueneau (1984), and according to it all discourse planes are integrated and they contribute for the constitution of a discursive body. The corpus is constituted by different genders (newspaper and magazine articles, books, documents, pamphlets, lyrics, etc.) that integrate the interdiscursive practice of the two studied positions. The research methodology is founded on the theoreticalanalytical framework of Discourse Analysis. The results reveal that, despite sharing the same discursive space (or exactly for this reason), the two discursive positions analyzed (Theology of Liberation and Catholic Charismatic Renovation), have global semantics which refuse one another / Doutorado / Doutor em Linguística

Movimentos do catolicismo brasileiro : cultura, midia, instituição

This research seeks to demonstrate how a third way of the Brazilian re-catholicizing is being constructed under the leadership of a new face of the Catholic Charismatic Renovation: the Media-Catholicism, whose emblem is the priest Marcelo Rossi¿s phenomenon. The study identifies the cultural changes that leverage the consolidation of the current re-catholicizing process. Also, it identifies the similarities with the Protestant Neo-Pentecostalism and the intra-Catholic Church conflicts ¿the last one created by the re-institutionalization effort inspired and legitimated during John Paul II pontifical period. Besides, it calls the attention to the ¿neo-integrist¿ and ¿exculturated¿ traces that tend to re-design another phase of Catholicism, the one that is being leavened for the last thirty years. The dilemmas and paradoxes that emerged into the historical relation between the Catholic Church and modernity are at the center of this discussion. Particularly, when the Church, in the eager to adapt itself to the signals of the time, resorts to the media culture, making religious use of the mass means of communication. This thesis is divided in three parts: the first one captures the interfaces between the vertiginous rising of the young priest and the culture of consumption; the second, sketches the traces of the media Catholicism and the way in which it configures imageries, subjetivities and religious sociabilities, transmitting them through the radio, television, movies and the Internet ¿analyzing, as well, the social outcomes of those pastoral practices; and the third part takes the reader to the interior dynamics of a millenarian institution, well experienced in the art of managing differences, negotiating hegemonies and maintaining a systemic equilibrium. As a whole, this reflection seeks to call the attention to the importance of a religious phenomenon in the contemporary society / Doutorado / Doutor em Ciências Sociais
