Étude de processus de recherche de chercheurs, élèves et étudiants, engagés dans la recherche d’un problème non résolu en théorie des nombres / Study of a research process for researchers, pupils and students involved in the research of an unsolved problem in number theory

Gardes, Marie-Line 25 November 2013 (has links)
Our thesis deals with the transposition of mathematician’s reserach activity in mathematical classroom, in the domain of number theory. Our research focuses on the study of a research process for researchers, pupils and students involved in the research of an unsolved problem: the Erdös-Straus conjecture. Our mathematical and epistemological analyses allow us to identify different aspects of the mathematician’s work and the elements for progress in his research. The notion of “gesture” is developed to describe, analyze and contextualize different research processes. This analysis reveals the potentiality of this problem to create a research situation in classroom, where pupils are in a position similar to the mathematician’s one. Didactical analyses are based on the construction of such a situation and its experimentation in laboratory. We study the research process of the students with the methodological tools developed in mathematical and epistemological analyses. This analysis shows several potentiality of this situation: a wealth of procedures implemented, effective work on the dialectical aspects of the mathematical research activity and implementation of experimental approach. The notion of “gesture” is relevant to consider the question of the transposition of mathematician’s work.

Visual merchandising displays' effect on consumer perceptions in Tshwane : an exploratory study into the South African apparel retail industry

Hefer, Yolande 22 April 2013 (has links)
This research study acquired a consumer response centred approach to visual merchandising stimuli, in an attempt to holistically consider this area of the retail industry. Consumers‟ perceptions towards visual merchandising displays and the effect these displays have on consumer behaviour were exposed. The primary research question that pended from the preliminary literature was to determine the effect of visual merchandising displays on consumer perceptions. Explorative research was performed and qualitative data were collected by means of focus groups and naïve sketches. The data was analysed by means of a thematic analysis process. Perceptions of visual merchandising displays that were identified were subliminal in creating an interest and desire to further peruse the merchandise and aesthetically to beautify the store. Consumers expressed that the impact that visual merchandising displays had on their buying decisions depended on their personal preferences. / Business Management / M. Com. (Business Management)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Eloisa Marques Damasco Penna.pdf: 749595 bytes, checksum: 986205531064ee24b936a2a31163379a (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-05-15 / The objective of this study was to propose a research method for analytical psychology and for such an investigation was undertaken into the academic production in analytical psychology doctorate thesis and masters dissertations at two Brazilian universities PUC-SP and USP from 2002 through 2007. The material collected was analyzed based on the methodological guidelines for the Jungian paradigm. The analysis of the research projects identified the main methodological procedures adopted by the researchers, both for collecting and for interpreting the data, and the articulation between the objective of the research, the phenomenon selected as the object of research and the methodological procedures used to collect and analyze the material; the most frequent research modules were identified together with the main difficulties faced by the researchers in undertaking their research. Based on an analysis of the material collected, a research method for investigation into analytical psychology was proposed. The research process, within the Jungian paradigm, includes stages for apprehending and comprehending phenomena, during which methodological procedures and resources are used that are compatible with the basic guidelines for the paradigm, which include symbolic amplification. Special attention was given to the researcher s participation in the process, considering his/her function and academic background and more importantly, the development of a symbolic attitude to approach the work and within the relationship researcher-researched . This research also identifies the main risk that the research activity presents to the contemporary Jungian researcher, and consequently, the care that needs to be taken during the research process. Finally, the ethical implications of scientific activity in general are discussed, and particularly in the work of Jungian researchers.

Tschida, Ulla 13 November 2019 (has links)
Knowing about the field-specific content and conditions of work in a scientific discipline is essential for the design of socio-technical systems used for the production of scientific knowledge. In the context of automated knowledge production, it remains unclear which field-specific factors influence the possibilities to distribute labour between humans and machines. This study analyses a fundamental prerequisite for the automation of research processes, namely the possibility to formalise typical actions and knowledge, with regard to its field-specific conditions. A qualitative approach is used to compare the construction of evidence in two scientific fields, textual studies and climate research. In order to systematically compare research processes and to empirically investigate correlations between the properties of a research process and the possibilities of its formalisation, a comparative framework based on the sociological concept of epistemic conditions was developed. Field-specific conditions of doing research represent an explanatory approach for variants of knowledge production and thus for variant degrees of formalised processes. Results show that the degree of codification of knowledge has a significant influence on the occurrence and on the sequence of types of action and of knowledge resources with variant degrees of formalisation. In addition, the role of personal interpretation in problem formulation and construction of empirical evidence and the degree of decomposability of a research process are decisive factors for being able to delegate actions to machines. Furthermore, the study shows that a high degree of formalisation requires informal human action to complement automated processes and that formalisability is subject to temporal dynamics during research processes.

A model for the visual representation of the coherence of facts in a textual document set

Engelbrecht, Louis January 2016 (has links)
A large amount of information is contained in textual records, which originate from a variety of sources such as handwritten records and digital media like audio and video files. The information contained in these records is unstructured and to visualise the content of the records is not a trivialtask. In order to visualise information contained in unstructured textual records, the information must be extracted from the records and transformed into a structured format. This research aimed to visualise the coherence of facts contained in textual sources in order to allow the user who make use of the visualisation to make an assumption about the validity of the textual records as a set. For the purpose of the study, it was contemplated that the coherence of facts contained in a document set was indicated by the multiple occurrences of the same fact over several documents in the set. The output of this research is a model that abstracts the process required to transform information contained in unstructured textual records into a structured format and the visual representation of the multiple occurrences of facts in order to support the process of making an assumption about the coherence of facts in the set. This assumption enables the user to make a decision.based on the coherence theory of truth.about the validity of the document set. The modelprovides guidance and practices for performing tasks on similar textualdocument sets containing secondary data. The development of the model was informed by a phased construction of three specific software solution instantiations.namely an initial information extraction, an intermediate visual representation and a final information visualisation instantiation. The final solution instantiation was demonstrated to research participants and was evaluated as well. A pragmatic design science research approach was followed in order to solve the research problem. In conducting the research an adaption of the Peffers et at. (2006) design research process model was followed. The result of the research is a model for the visual representation of the coherence of facts in a textual document set. Expert review of the model is added through a process of peer review and academic scrutiny by means of conference papers and a journal article. It is envisaged that the results of the research can be applied to a number of research fields such as Indigenous Knowledge, History and Law. / School of Computing / M. Sc. (Computing)

Prove di efficacia e di efficienza / The evaluation of couples therapy. Evidence of efficacy and effectiveness

ESPOSITO, LUCIA ISABELLA 13 March 2009 (has links)
The present dissertation refers to the theoretical background known in the literature as Empirically Supported Therapy Relationships, a research tradition focused on the relationship and its nature, beyond the outcome and process research opposition. The three studies included in this work focused on different portions of treatment: respectively the initial intake session, the first two sessions, and the overall treatment. In the first study different outcomes were compared in order to examine if the effects of interpretations were connected to specific factors of psychotherapeutic process. The second study aimed to assess clinical cases of premature termination, differentiated on the basis of the contract attainment: the purpose was to depict specificities due to the different phase of dropping out. Finally, the third study was a single-case research examining alliance ruptures within an entire clinical process of forty sessions.
