An ontological history of ecclesial union

Fredsti, Sean Paul 08 1900 (has links)
A critical survey of early Church history, the works of the Church Fathers and several councils of the Church reveals a consistent call for unity. Heresies, politic intrigue and struggles for governance have aggravated attempts to remain in the union. The insistence on unity and the persistence of the Church to unify reveals an ontological reality. While our knowledge of the Church can be given in epistemological terms, looking at the Church to discover its essence, what it means to be church, opens a different way of encountering the Church and, eventually, understanding the nature of the Church to be one. The transformations in the early Church as it spread to new cultures, the impact on the Church at the founding of “New Rome” by the Emperor Constantine, the changes brought about when Constantinople fell to the Ottomans in 1453 and the resulting birth of the Renaissance in the West with the beginning of the autocephaly Church in Russia and subsequent reunions, are especially rich in manifestations of unification among dissidence. This paper will focus on these particular moments. The concept of looking at the essence of the Church exposes us to an understanding of what the Church is as a universal presence. Stating that the Church has no physical dimension, that it is a unique congregation abiding solely by an actual historic document or defined only by written doctrines does not show us its full essence. Likewise, seeing the Church as defined by how it differs from another, exists in objection to another church or how it avoids affiliation with others, reveals a body that does not have a unifying essence and is lifeless. Looking closer at its essence as it is revealed over time, shows us a living Church that has repeatedly manifested unification as its particularly unique identity. This paper is a reflective look of the Church through the ages which presents to us a look into the essence of the Church. Primary and secondary sources are critically examined with an emphasis on ontological manifestations. The moments in history that are presented in this paper are especially revealing of the unifying nature of the Church in various settings. This paper has limitations though. While the deliberate historic selections may give extraneous interpretations, it is intended to reveal previously under-estimated treasures, and this topic will require being given greater context in any expanded study. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D. Étude des ratios isotopiques du carbone et de l'azote de la matière organique particulaire et des muscles de poissons d'intérêt commercial d'écosystèmes côtiers tropicaux du sud-ouest de l'océan Indien : contribution à l'étude de leur fonctionnement / Carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes composition of particulate organic matter and muscles of fish of commercial interest from tropical coastal ecosystems of the southwest Indian ocean : contribution to the study of their functionning

Mablouké, Cécile 08 November 2013 (has links)
The aim of this thesis was to study the feeding habits of coastal fish species of commercial interest andto use stable isotopes of carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) to investigate the trophic niches of fish and their use of coastal habitats in the south-west Indian Ocean. In the Bay of La Possession, the species among the most abundant around the artificial reefs immersed in 2003 (Luljanus kasmira, Priacanthus hamrur and Selar crumenophthalmus) feed essentially on pelagic prey and partition their trophic niche to limit interspecific competition. There was also a positive correlation between fish size and muscle δ15N values due to fish larvae contributing more to the diet of fish with age. The stable isotopie composition of the particulate organic matter (POM) was measured at the microscale (< 10 km) in the Bay of La Possession, the mesoscale (10's of km) around Reunion Island and, for the fish muscles, at the macroscale 100’s of km) along the Mascarene plateau and the Mozambique channel. At microscale, POM δ15N values do not show any spatial variability; at mesoscale, POM is 15N-enriched in the south-west of Reunion Island; at macroscale, fish muscles are gradually 15N-enriched towards the north. At microscale, POM shows a 13C-enrichment on the shallowest station; at mesoscale, stations on the east coast of the island are 13C-enriched compared to the west; at macroscale, POMδ13C values are not significantly correlated with latitude. Thus, the stable isotopes of carbon do not seem to be appropriate for the study of fish coastal habitat use at the meso- and macroscale, and the stable isotopes of nitrogen represent a better indicator of fish habitat use at the macroscale.

Le double éclairage français et allemand de Gustave Oelsner-Monmerqué (1814-1854) sur la société coloniale à Bourbon / The Double French and German Outlook of Gustave Oelsner-Monmerqué (1814-1854) on Bourbon Island's Colonial Society

Bartolain-Tolède, Marlène 09 June 2012 (has links)
Gustave Oelsner-Monmerqué's work unearthed by us and presented in our doctoral thesis offers a double – French and German – vision of colonial society in Bourbon (now Reunion) Island in the early 1840s. This study begins with a detailed reconstitution of Oelsner-Monmerqué's life, then focuses on his abolitionist stance and actions as editor of the Feuille hebdomadaire de l'Ile Bourbon [Bourbon Island Weekly] and philosophy teacher at and principal of the Collège royal de Bourbon high school. Oelsner-Monmerqué pursued his abolitionist activism in Germany through literary channels: a novel, press articles andconferences. By publishing Schwarze und Weiße. Skizzen aus Bourbon [Blacks and Whites. Sketches of Bourbon] in a country which had no slaves, the author meant to contribute to their quicker and more complete emancipation. His descriptions of illegal slave trade and slave life in Bourbon Island's society have a realistic, expressive touch made possible by the use of an innovative literary genre, the sketch. A cross-boundary testimony, this work can be regardedas Bourbon Island's first abolitionist novel.

Fageol, Pierre-Éric 25 November 2013 (has links)
The feeling of national membership among the Reunionese population seems to be a regular fact in the colony history and has never been really questioned. This work confirms its strength in the period in study, and more particularly during the colonial and world conflicts. But it also shows that this support includes the conscience of a singular feeling, which is not only the consequence of geography, but also of history. This subject allows us to mix a social historical approach with a historical representation approach on a coherent colonial period, which goes from the beginning of the Third Republic up to the region establishment. By suggesting to « denationalise the national » through a study dealing with the identity principles in a colonial situation, we mean to focus on the particular acculturation processes in a colonial period and the interconnection of colonial territories (Mauritius, Madagascar) in defining a constructing feeling of membership. The first part deals with the feeling of membership in a colonial period and tries to analyse what is at stake in the research methods. The second part studies the links between colonialism and the feeling of national membership and focuses on Reunionese imperialism as a trigger to a recognition shared by the rest of the Nation. The third part takes into account the different signs of patriotism and their influence on the definition of what a feeling of national membership is about. Finally, the fourth part focuses on the triggers of national acculturation while taking into account the role of school, church, and the army in the building up of a typical Reunionese national membership feeling, shared by the elite which mainly benefited from the quest of a recognition from the Nation.

When the child that young and has lived in foster care for four years, it would be like apprehending the child one more time” : A qualitative vignette study about social welfare workers experience of the assessment process regarding the child's best interests and the child's right to their parents, at a reunion from a family home

Järlesäter, Tilde, Lind, Matilda January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to achieve a deeper knowledge of the dilemma whichcan arise during a social welfare workers judgement of a reunion according to whatis best for the child in relation to a child’s right to their biological parents. Thisbachelor thesis was based on three research questions: What influences a socialwelfare workers judgement of a reunion according to what is best for the child, aswell as children’s right to their biological parents? How does a social welfare workerperceive its leeway during a judgement concerning reunion family reunion? How doesa social welfare worker perceive their authority to interpret according to their leeway?A qualitative study has been used to gain a deeper knowledge according to a socialwelfare workers experience. A hermeneutic approach has been used to answer thepurpose of our bachelor thesis and has contributed to a wider perspective of our study. The focus was to understand the dilemma through evaluating and interpretation. Sixsocial welfare workers participated in the following vignette survey, which werecomplemented with semi-structured questions. The participants have answeredregarding their experience concerning their leeway and authority to interpret the lawaccording to what is best for the child and their entitlement to their biological parents. This bachelor thesis research results show that social welfare workers did possessleeway which implies empowerment to interpret legislation, concepts and varioussituations. This can be seen as a prerequisite for correct decisions to be made duringdaily work. Although, it can also act as a risk since clients may receive differentconclusions depending on the social welfare worker. Furthermore, a conclusion of thethesis is that different judgements are made, even though the contributed informationwas identical. The explanation to these different assessments may relate to the socialwelfare workers leeway and authority to interpret the law, which makes investigatingchildren’s right to their parents and what is best for them even more complex.
