Religion, ett retoriskt redskap inom Sverigedemokraterna? : En retorikanalys av SD-kuriren valåret 2010 / Religion, a Rhetorical Instrumnet for the Swedish Nationalist Party "Sverigedemokraterna"? : An Analysis of SD-kuriren in the Swedish General Election 2010

Zaki, Sara January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to see if the Swedish nationalist party”Sverigedemokraterna” use religion rhetorically in their paper SD-Kuriren, and if so,then how? The method used to examine this is called rhetorical analysis. Furthermore, thetheory to explore how religion is used rhetorical is Said's Orientalism. The results show that religion is used rhetorically in the articles. Islam is explainedfrom our point of view in the west, and not their own. Islam becomes a religion that is faraway from what the Swedish culture is like, and also a religion that is violent andirrational compared to the Swedish culture, but also other religions, such as Judaism. Also, religion is used rhetorically to show that Islam is the opposite in relation toChristianity and Judaism.

Image Trends in Corporate Environmental Reporting: Bolstering Reputation through Transparency or Widening the “Sustainability Gap”?

Brooks, Sarah E 26 November 2012 (has links)
As companies discover the monetary benefits of a positive environmental image, a proliferation of green imaging confounds the public sphere. The consequence becomes the disarticulation of terms like environmental excellence, sustainable development, and minimum environmental harm. Because the oversaturation of greening efforts has elicited public distrust, stakeholders need timely and accurate information regarding environmental claims. As a major vehicle for communicating these efforts, corporate environmental reports (CERs) are laden with colorful and sublime images. This study examines the functionality of images found in CERs from 27 industry leaders, applying Sonja Foss’s tenets of visual rhetorical analysis to identify the nature and function of the images and offer an evaluation based on emergent themes. Because images are increasingly important to corporate transparency, the study concludes with several best practice recommendations to serve as ethical image design strategies and to reflect the ways companies address impactful operations.

The mixed economy in China: through rhetorical perspective

Yuan, Yuchun 15 November 2004 (has links)
Mixed economies gradually emerge in many countries. China is no exception. China's traditional planned economy system is limited to state-owned enterprises, which are undergoing reform. In the private sector, the market system has begun to play a dominant role. The coexistence of the planned system and the market system, as well as governmental intervention and regulated policies, constitute China's mixed economy. In this thesis, I try to evaluate Deng Xiaoping's speeches through rhetorical analysis in order to justify China's economic policies. In addition, I illustrate some historical and cultural factors that would affect Chinese ideas towards the market economy.

The present study analyses the philosophical conceptions of John Dewey presented in the book The quest for certainty: a study of the relation of knowledge and action, published in 1929, in which the author proposes to use the method of experimental sciences in human sciences, specially to the examination of moral judgments. In this book, Dewey defends the disruption of the dichotomy between practical and theory and attributes a probabilistic character to the scientific inquiry knowledge, citing as an example the quantun mechanics. The methodology adopted to analyze deweyan discourse is the new rhetoric, based upon Treatise of argumentation by Chaïm Perelman and Lucie Olbrechts-Tyteca. The objective of the this work is to show to the proximity between Dewey and the skepticism, having as a basis the conceptions of Pyrrho from Élis systematized by Aenesidemus and Sextus Empiricus, as well as recent developments of this philosophy. The work also intends to contribute for the discussion of theses which diverge on the theme of this work: on the one hand, the ones that blame Dewey’s skepticism for the harmfulness of contemporary education; and, on the other, those which attribute the origin of important progress in pedagogy to Dewey.

A presença da filosofia platônica na pedagogia do estado novo / The Presence of Platonic Philosophy in the New State Pedagogy

Tatiane da Silva 24 May 2013 (has links)
The Western thought was inaugurated over two thousand years ago by Plato, who created some peculiar forms to elaborate and solve philosophical problems, establishing discursive frameworks that are allowed by thinkers from diverse areas of knowledge, both in political and social field as well in education. Previous research analyzed the books The authoritarian state and national reality by Azevedo Amaral (1938), The National State by Francisco Campos (1941) and Trends of Brazilian education by Lourenço Filho (1940), which are considered as responsible for the criation and dissemination of theoretical basis of the pedagogy that prevailed during New State (1937-1945). The conclusions of that research noted that these authors sought argumentative support in Plato. The aim of this work is to review these books by means of Chaïm Perelmans rhetorical analysis, seeking to investigate the presence of Platonic discursive frameworks in the arguments of those authors. The first chapter discusses metaphor as argumentative strategy, showing that the authors established previously determined guidelines to define New State political and educational actions. The second chapter focuses dissociation of notions, which the authors use to argue about freedom in New State. The third chapter examines the link between act and person, with which the authors give exceptional personal characteristics to the ruler, thus justifying his actions in command of the Nation. The fourth chapter analyses definition, which is used by the authors to disqualify democracy and to praise New State qualities. The conclusions defend that the similarity between the discourses of the authors can be attributed to the presence of Platonic discursive frameworks in their arguments about politics and education; and that this presence is responsible by their alignment to a monistic conception of State.

Att rädda sin image : En analys av Fredrik Virtanens kriskommunikation efter #metoo / To save one's image : An analysis of the crisis communication of Fredrik Virtanen following #metoo

Welin, Ebba January 2020 (has links)
Several studies have been made on the crisis communication efforts made by politicians and athletes following a personal crisis, but few focus on the efforts made by other people of influence whose image and personal brand get hurt during a crisis. The aim of this study is to examine nine of Swedish journalist Fredrik Virtanen’s statements after he was accused of rape and sexual assault by several women during #metoo. The theoretical framework is based on Goffman’s theories on impression management and Benoit’s image repair theory. The chosen method for this study is a combined qualitative text analysis and critical rhetorical analysis. The results show that a variety of image repair strategies are visible in Virtanen's communication and that the most frequently used strategies aresimple denial, differentiation, attack accuser and minimization. The results support earlier studies on image repair that claim that the cultural and societal as well as the circumstantial context is an important aspect in the success or failure of an image repair effort. The results also imply that without support from people or organisations that have previously been affiliated with the accused, who can assist in the communication efforts, the accused will have a harder time repairing their image.

MANAGING THE CLIMATE CHANGE CRISIS: EXAMINING THE FRAMING OF ONLINE ENVIRONMENTAL COMMUNICATION OF NONRENEWABLE ENERGY COMPANIES FROM AN ISSUES MANAGEMENT PERSPECTIVE

Mackenzie N Breneman (8797166) 04 May 2020 (has links)
<p>The purpose of this study was to qualitatively examine how nonrenewable energy companies frame and manage the issue of climate change in their online communication, specifically sustainability reports. The issue cycle framework was applied through a rhetorical analysis to determine where coal and oil/gas companies place climate change in the issue cycle and subsequently manage the issue. Coal companies were determined to place climate change in lower stages of the issue cycle while oil/gas companies placed the issue later in the issue cycle. The issues management strategies of these companies also aligned with where they placed climate change in the issue cycle. This study then sought to understand the differences between the approaches of coal and oil/gas companies by examining factors such as financial standing, business models, and each industry’s publics.</p>

En torsk som vill äga sin historia : En analys av Paolo Robertos image repair efter Insats torsk / A john who wants to own his story : An analysis of Paolo Roberto's image repair after “Insats torsk”

Olofsson, Maria, HällgrenVikström, Julia January 2021 (has links)
Crises can affect organizations as well as individuals and in today's digitized society news about such events is easily shared. Therefore crisis management becomes important. This study aims to examine how the Swedish entrepreneur Paolo Roberto acted after being arrested for buying sex. To do this eight of Robertos statements will be analyzed. The theoretical framework is based on public apologies, Benoit's image repair theory, and Goffman's theory of impression management. The method used for the study is a combined qualitative text analysis and critical rhetorical analysis. The results show that Roberto apologized only in one of his statements. It also becomes clear that he used five of the 14 image repair strategies, of which the most frequently used are mortification and provocation. He admits to the incident but does not express that he committed a crime, but that he committed a mistake. The results also imply that Roberto presents himself as a victim in the situation by focusing on his own feelings in his statements and not on prostitution or the victim.
