STIMPROCESSEN : En fallstudie av STIM och dess insamlings- och fördelningsverksamhet

Csongvai, Jozsef, Westerlund, Christoffer, Karlsson, Jonas January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this case study is to find out how STIM:s collecting and distribution activities operate and why they do so. Also we intend to investigate possible scarcities and how they can be taken care of. To find out how STIM’s collecting and distribution actions function we used a qualitative study in which we did interviews with STIM. We also interviewed various people involved in the subject e.g. music publishers. These interviews helped us finding scarcities within STIMS operations. We made a total of seven interviews. Also we used secondary sources such as financial rapports and STIM’s webpage to describe the collecting and distribution activites. The rules which STIM uses to collect and distribute royalties are developed by STIM’s board and are based on various elements such as pressure brought on from foreign collecting societies to keep the administrative costs low. These administrative costs have great influence on the accuracy of the collecting and distributing activities. STIM is far behind the new technology and the new use of music that this technology offers. STIM doing a great job towards successful originators whose songs are frequently played on the radio and the TV. However the less successful originators do not get the same attention from STIM because they don’t focus on collecting smaller amounts of money from smaller districts where some of these less successful originators appear. The monopoly status STIM has on the Swedish market contributes to the non existing pressure to make them change their operations. A smaller competitor whose main focus would be the new and the smaller market for music is necessary.

Arboreal Eloquence: Trees and Commemoration

Morgan, Jo-anne Mary January 2008 (has links)
This thesis is about the use of trees for commemoration and the memory that they have anchored in the landscape. There has been little written on the use of trees for commemorative purposes despite its symbolic resonance over the last 150 years. To determine the extent to which commemorative trees have been employed, the social practice and context in which the trees were planted, field and archival work was undertaken in New Zealand and Australia. This has been supported with some comparative work using examples from Britain and the United States of America. The research also utilizes the new availabilities of records on-line and the community interests that placed historical and contemporary material on-line. The commemorative tree has been a popular commemorative marker for royal events, the marking of place and as memorial for war dead. It has been as effective an anchor of memory in the landscape as any other form. The memory ascribed to these trees must be understood in terms of the era in which the tree was planted and not just from a distance. Over time the memory represented by the trees and its prescribed meanings, has changed. For all its power and fragility, memory is not permanent but nor is it so ephemeral as to exhibit no robustness at all. Instead memory exists in a state of instability that leaves it open to challenge and to constant reassessment based on the needs of the viewing generation. This instability also allows the memory, and thus the tree, to fade and become part of the domestic landscape of treescape memories (Cloke and Pawson, 2008). However, in some circumstances trees are retrieved and reinscribed with specific memory and made relevant for a new generation. The landscape created by commemorative trees is, therefore, multifunctional, in which social relations support memory, remembrance, forgetting, silences, erasures, and memory slippage.

Music Copyright Management on Blockchain : Is it legally viable?

Sharmin, Sadia January 2018 (has links)
The thesis begins by describing the current problems in the fragmented world of music copyrights indicating musicians are not being paid accurately due to lack of transparency in the calculation of royalties and this lead to legal battle. Later we investigate how blockchain technology can alleviate much of the difficulties associated with this complexity. We further explore the legislative and institutional support for the technology necessary for a successful implementation, in form of legislations and governmental projects. We find out that numerous authorities have started voting favourable legislations and recognizing the technology as a valid public ledger. Eventually, we confirm our findings by analysing existing laws.

Alcances Constitucionales del Royalty.

Graig Palacios, Claudia January 2006 (has links)

The Heraldry of the Vasa Dynasty : Coats of arms as propaganda tools in conflicts with the outside world and within the family

Fridén, Björn January 2023 (has links)
During the rule of the house of Vasa 1523-1654, Sweden saw a vastly increased output of new government heraldry and official symbols. This thesis investigates the political motives behind the creation of these symbols and their use as propaganda tools as part of the formation of the Swedish state.  Heraldry is a well-covered topic in academia in many European countries, but in Sweden it has yet to be properly integrated into historical research. This thesis covers the bigger picture by investigating the Vasa dynasty’s heraldry in its entirety in order to follow its use over time.  The thesis analyses all grants of arms to cities and nobles, as well as new royal and provincial arms. It carries out an analysis of the arms’ composition and motif, as well as charting the political context in which they were created and their role in the formation of the modern state.  The question the thesis seeks to answer is if the Vasa dynasty used heraldry as a political propaganda tool, and if so — for what purpose. The thesis uses Jaques Ellul’s categories of propaganda as a theoretical framework.  Among the key findings is the discovery that the Vasa monarchs did treat official heraldry as an integrated part of their propaganda efforts, both in conflicts with the outside world and with each other. However, the heraldic motifs of most cities and nobles, making up the vast majority of new coats of arms, were not part of those efforts.  There was also a clear shift from the agitation propaganda during the early Vasa era, to propaganda of integration as the institutions of state took form and Sweden became a regional power.

u bvulwa maanda ha vhuimo ha vhuhosi na nzulele ya musanda: / tsenguloso ya livhanaho na vhuhosi ha vhavenda ho shumiswa thyiori ye "ethbopragmatics".

Raphalalani, Matodzi Rebecca January 2015 (has links)
The main aim of the study was to investigate how the Vhavenḓa royal kingdom’s communicative functions and positions of royalty and settlement pattern were disempowered by the British colonists, the apartheid government, the Homeland system and the new democratic government which came into power in 1994. The arrival of the British colonists disempowered the Vhavenḓa Kingdom by reducing the title of the King to that of a mere chief. This was, among others, a leading cause for the fall and the end of the Vhavenḓa Kingdom. The Apartheid regime (1949-1994) also had a negative impact on the Vhavenda royal kingdom as the regime put a large number of people who were not of the royal families into chieftainship. This resulted in chieftaincy becoming an appointment rather than a birth right. The Homeland system, a creation of Apartheid, also caused confusion and disagreements among the Vhavenḓa. Some of those who were born of royal descent were removed from chieftainship positions and more educated Vhavenḓa citizens who were just mere commoners were put in those positions. The new democratic government (1994) tried to bring back the chieftaincy titles that were taken by former governments but this was complicated by the appointment of ward representatives, councilors and civic organisations. The democratic government split areas into wards, and, as a result, the system failed to work in unison with the Vhavenḓa Kingdom. Chiefs were reduced to ceremonial monarchs, and decision-making powers were the preserve of the politicians, and not the chiefs. This study utilized the theory of Ethnopragmatics. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were employed to collect data. Data were collected from the youth, royals, non-royal adults and chiefs by means of questionnaires and interviews. Data were then transcribed by the researcher and the coding system was used to analyse it. Coding methods used included open, axial and selective coding methods. Data were viii then presented, discussed and conclusions drawn. Results revealed that chiefs and their subjects have many concerns. Recommendations were also made to address the concerns raised by participants. / Anthropology and Archaeology
