The present work was carried out in the Parque Estadual do Itacolomi, located in the municipalities of Mariana and Ouro Preto-MG, Brasil. The main objective of the work was to study the occurrence of Vanillosmopsis erythropappa Sch. Bip. (Compositae – Candeia) in various environments inside the studied area, characterizing the floristic composition therein, the phytosociologic structure, the diameter distribution, basal area and volume. Also, the characterization of the soil of the studied area was done by means of the quantification of the nutrients Ca, Mg, P and K of the local soil, as well as of the element Al. The pH in water, the bases sum (SB), the exchangeable acididy, the CTC at pH 7.0, the bases saturation, and the aluminum saturation were obtained. The candeia tree occurs in a distinctive way throughout the studied area as follows: thickets of candeia trees or candeial, candeia trees occurring inside natural forests and in places where the species is scarce. Therefore, the total sampling area was divided into five different parts: areas 1, 2 and 3 (candeias), area 4 (rare occurrence of candeia trees), and area 5 (forest with occurrence of candeia trees). In each area five plots, with a fixed area were systematically distributed, i.e., 25 areas with 400 m 2 each, totaling 1.0 ha of sampling. All individuals with DBH of more than 3.0 cm were included. The soil was sampled at the depths of 0-10 and 10-20 cm, for the chemical and granulometric analyses. In each plot a composed soil sample was collected at a depth of 0-10 cm and 10-20 cm, totaling 25 composed samples in each of the depths sampled. The statistical analysis was made comparing the parameters density, dominance and volume, and the soil nutrient contents among the sampled areas. It was found that the soil of the region is quite poor and that the species is well adapted to this kind of soil. Although the factor light was not quantified, it is very important for the development of this species. In the field, it was observed that the cadeia tree grows easily in areas with plenty of light, therefore it is a feature of pioneer species. The larger individuals were found inside the forest, because they compete with individuals of other species for light, therefore growing taller than the individuals that form the thickets or candeiais. It is very common to find dead candeia trees in the studied area. It was observed that the more advanced the successional stage in the area the more dead individuals were found. This proves that the species really needs light to develop and survive, and the more the forest grows increasing light competition among species the more the candeia trees tend to disappear. The differences found among the sampled areas, in relation to density, dominance, volume, floristic composition and diametric distribution are due mainly to the difference in successional stages within the areas, thus, the soil is not the major contributor for these facts. / Dissertação importada do Alexandria

The Suites of J.S.Bach, Debussy and Schönberg

Chiu, Ching-Ling 16 January 2001 (has links)
The suite is made up of many successive movements. It originates from pair dances, developing and evolving during different periods. Standard classic suites consist mainly of traditional dances such as the allemande, courante, sarabande and gigue. This paper closely examines three suites¡GPartita in B-flat major No.1 Bwv 825 by J. S. Bach, Suite Bergamasque by Debussy and Suite op.25 by Schönberg. At first, focus is on the definition, origin, development and changes of the genre, and then the features of dances in each of the three suites will be fully discussed, especially in the ones by J. S. Bach and Schönberg. J. S. Bach was one of the greatest composers of suites in the Baroque period. In his works, traditional dances are highly stylized, full of characteristics, as observed in his Partita in B-flat major No.1 Bwv 825. However, the form gradually declined after the Baroque period; until the Romantic period, when the character pieces rise, usually forming a group, which correspond to the nature of the suites. In the Twentieth century, influenced by Neoclassicism, Schönberg composed Suite op.25, which adopts the form of the suite, imitating the style of the traditional dances, while utilizing his twelve-tone technique for the very first time¡I To sum up, drastic changes can not be detected in the styles of dances from different periods. It is the distinctive characteristics of different composers that bring about the diversities.

Mecanismos dopaminérgicos na aquisição e expressão do medo condicionado: envolvimento de receptores D1 e D2 / Dopaminergic mechanisms in the acquisition and expression of conditioned fear: involviment of D1 and D2 receptors

Amanda Ribeiro de Oliveira 20 February 2006 (has links)
The increase in the startle reflex in the presence of a stimulus that has been previously paired to footshock is taken as an index of fear and named fear potentiated startle (FPS). Freezing behavior, a cessation of all observable movements, except those associated with respiration, has also been used as an index of fear in rats. A growing body of evidence has suggested that dopaminergic mechanisms are implicated in different aspects of affective memory, namely its formation, expression or retrieval. However, the results of studies that have examined how, and through which receptors, dopaminergic mechanisms influence fear have been inconsistent. This work is aimed at examining the involvement of dopaminergic receptors in the acquisition and expression of conditioned fear to ligth-CS. We evaluated the effects of systemic administration of the D1 antagonist, SCH 23390, the D1 agonist, SKF 38393, the D2 antagonist, sulpiride, and the D2 agonist, quinpirole before and after conditioning on FPS and freezing. The motor activity of the animals was also evaluated in an open field test. SCH 23390, SKF 38393, sulpiride and quinpirole, injected before conditioning sessions, did not produce any effect on FPS, but SCH 23390 decreased freezing. Injections of SCH 23390, SKF 38393 and sulpiride before testing session did not produce any effect on FPS or freezing. Quinpirole, injected at doses acting at presynaptic level, caused significant reduction in FPS and freezing, when injected before testing. Drugs’ action was not due to nonspecific effects since they had no effect in the open field test. Our findings indicate that DA mechanisms are involved in the acquisition and expression of conditioned fear using light-CS. Dopaminergic mechanisms mediated by postsynaptic D1 receptors seem to be involved in the acquisition of conditioned freezing to light-CS, but not in FPS. On the other hand, dopaminergic mechanisms mediated by presynaptic D2 receptors seem to be involved in the expression of conditioned fear to light-CS.

The content of these notes focuses on issues related to the plot of the Iliad, especially those related to Song IX of that work. The interest of this study is to reveal the role that these notes for classes had in the making of the published work of Sch?ler Aspectos Estruturais na Il?ada. These notes are part of one of the binders, entitled Iliad II, which features handwritten notes for classes on Homer and his works. These notes were made by Sch?ler when he was a professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. From this binder, we chose three pieces as a clipping for analysis. These three pieces belong to the set of discussions corresponding to Song IX of the Iliad. To make easy the reference, the pieces are numbered and classified as follows: Piece 1, which discusses the psychology of the ancient man, Piece 2, which presents a summary of Song IX for didactic purposes and Piece 3, which outlines some reflections on the Phoenix character. The contents of these pieces demonstrate just from their outline the presence of an essayistic thought, marked by questioning, restlessness and reflection. Such thinking, unfolding in more complex reflections such as a thesis and a published essay, reveals through material evidence that, parallel to the classroom, the teacher develops his own essayistic thought, characterized by critical reflections on what he researches and teaches, which is reflected in his scientific production.

Almiron Roig, Núria 14 July 2006 (has links)
This doctoral thesis is an original work analysing the relationship between the financial power (represented by the banks) and the media power (represented by the communication groups) in Spain. The evolution experienced by both sectors from 1976 to 2004 is described here, with focus on two cases-studies: the Santander Central Hispano (SCH) group and the PRISA group. In particular, this research analyzes the corporate structure, the needs and the interests in the communication and information sector of the SCH group; the corporate structure, the needs and the interests in the financial sector of the PRISA group; and finally reveals the convergence of interests, needs and structures between SCH and PRISA.The main contributions of this thesis can be synthesised as follows:First, the generation of the current financial and media oligopolies in Spain is explained, showing how the concentration trends from 1976 up to now have led to a duopolistic scenario in both sectors. Second, the penetration of the information and communication sector in Spain carried out by the banks is described, defining as well the relationships established between both sectors. It is noted that the speculative profitability from investments and participations is equally, or even more important, than the productive profitability and that the need to control communication and information flows is a priority for SCH. Third, the PRISA group is defined as an increasingly financiarized multimedia group. This financiarization stems from its financial dependence on the banks, from the growing gap between the real value of the company and its value in the speculative markets, from the presence of financial representatives on its board of directors, from the arrival of new stockholders with important roles in global financiarization (such as the investment funds), from the use of the so-called securitization, and from an ever-growing focus on financial activities to the detriment of its own original ones. Finally, this work reports the important network of financial, corporate and personal links existing between the SCH and the PRISA groups.

I. Formal Synthesis of SCH 351448. II. Synthesis and Characterization of Largazole Analogues.

Park, Heekwang January 2012 (has links)

Part I: Extensive studies for treating hypercholesterolemia, one of the major causes of human morbidity throughout the world, have led to the development of statin drugs-the most prevalent drug prescribed today. In addition to statins, SCH 351448 has attracted considerable interest from many synthetic groups as it is the only selective activator of low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDL-R) containing structural features such as a C2-symmetry and 2,6-cis-tetrahydropyrans. Even though direct dimerization has been the most efficient method for the construction of C2-symmetric macrodiolides, total syntheses of SCH 351448 were only achived by stepwise dimerizations. In this chapter, attempts were made to exploit the inherent C2-symmetric macrodioloide via direct dimerization using various single monomeric units, but they did not prove to be viable. Therefore, formal synthesis of SCH 351448 was accomplished through two tandem sequences; cross-metathesis/conjugate addition and allylic oxidation/conjugate addition reactions, to stereoselectively construct 2,6-cis-tetrahydropyrans embedded in SCH 351448. The 1,4-syn aldol and the Suzuki coupling reactions were effective for the construction of the monomeric units. This convergent route should be broadly applicable to the synthesis of a diverse set of analogues of SCH 351448 for further biological studies.

Part II: Histone deacetylases (HDACs) play a significant role in tumorigenesis and have been recognized as one of the target enzymes for cancer therapy. Extensive studies in small molecules inhibiting HDAC enzymes have resulted in pan-HDAC inhibitor suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA) and class I HDAC inhibitor FK228, approved by FDA in 2006 and 2009, respectively. Recently, largazole, a natural product was isolated from Symploca sp. presented HDAC inhibitory activity. Due to its unique differential cytotoxicity, potency, and class selectivity, structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies of largazole have been achieved to improve the potency and class selectivity. In addition to such biological activities, pharmacokinetic characteristics and isoform selectivity should be improved for the therapeutic potential of cancer therapy. In this chapter, two types of largazole analogues were synthesized by a convergent route that involved an efficient and high yielding multistep sequence. The synthesis of three disulfide analogues to improve pharmacokinetics and five linker analogues to enhance HDAC isoform selectivity is disclosed. The evaluation of biological studies is in progress.
/ Dissertation

Alkynones Derived from Tartaric Acid : Efficient Building Blocks for the Synthesis of Macrolactone Natural Products

Bali, Amit K January 2017 (has links) (PDF)
The thesis describes the synthesis and application of various alkynones derived from the bis-Weinreb amide of tartaric acid in the total synthesis of macrolactone natural products. The thesis is divided into three sections. First section of the thesis describes the optimization and generalization of the procedure for the addition of alkynyl Grignard / lithium reagents to the bis-Weinreb amide derived from tartaric acid to yield the mono alkynyl ketones was developed. Application of the formed γ-oxo amides was demonstrated in the synthesis of polyols with varied substitutions particularly the synthesis of 1,2,4-triols was accomplished using Ley’s dithianylation as the key step. Scheme 1: Synthesis of polyols from the bis-weinreb amide of tartaric acid. Application of the strategy to the total synthesis of decanolactone natural products achaetolide and (Z)-isomer of (6S,7R,9R)-6,7-dihydroxy-9-propylnon-4-eno-9-lactone was featured. Section B of the thesis deals with the enantiospecific total synthesis of 14-membered macrolactone Sch 725674. Key reactions in the synthesis include the synthesis of the 1,2,4-triol unit from tartaric acid, olefin cross metathesis and ring closing metathesis. Scheme 4: Enantiospecific total synthesis of Sch 725674. Section C of the thesis describes the enantiospecific synthesis of the C9-C22 fragment of the 28-membered polyene polyol macrolide pentamycin. Although isolated in 1958, total synthesis of this antifungal compound was not reported. In application of the methodology developed, the alkynone prepared from the bis-Weinreb amide was elaborated to the required fragment.

These media influence the behaviours and opinions, by creating new mappings of ideas, facts and events. This research sought to reflect about displacements propitiated by the growing using of digital images in the scholar environment. It – the research – also used as methodological procedure the analysis of some teachers’ narratives and their conceptions related to the New Technologies of Information and Communication (NTIC). These teachers, arising from a public school of basic education in the city of Goiânia/GO, offered their reports by means of formularies, illustrations (cartoons), elaboration of lesson plans and collective discussions concerning all the process. The research was developed at Escola Municipal Benedito Soares de Castro, this school integrates the Rede Municipal de Ensino de Goiânia and it is located on Conjunto Caiçara – suburb of West Region. This is the single school on neighborhood and it attends children full time using the learning cicles, in this case, cicle I and II, the age of students is about six and twelve years old. The theoretical paths which substantiate the research are all related to the ideas of Deleuze, Guattari, Duncum, Martins, Tourinho, Pinto and some other authors, thus triangling the ideas of rhizome, visual culture and education. The results mapped point to usages of the electronic images in the classroom as a didactic support, indicate the existence of a demand for more knowledge about technology and also show scarcity of materials as being the complicators of the satisfactory using of those NTIC which are attached to the image. Some factors, like the organization of the scholar time, the capacitation and the lack of equipment were all listed as being barriers to be transposed. We concluded that the educators want to use the cyberculture in a positive way, and that they are moved for a desire of getting out of the position of disadvantage in which they believe to be in comparison to the students, a desire of abridging the distance that exists between these two universes. However, they also realize that it implicates in decentralizing the teacher, and it is a displacement that brings many challenges still not treated with the necessary lucidity that the contemporaneity requires in order to think the education of the present times.
