An examination of the application of design metrics to the development of testing strategies in large-scale SDL models

West, James F. January 2000 (has links)
There exist a number of well-known and validated design metrics, and the fault prediction available through these metrics has been well documented for systems developed in languages such as C and Ada. However, the mapping and application of these metrics to SDL systems has not been thoroughly explored. The aim of this project is to test the applicability of these metrics in classifying components for testing purposes in a large-scale SDL system. A new model has been developed for this purpose. This research was conducted using a number of SDL systems, most notably actual production models provided by Motorola Corporation. / Department of Computer Science

The development of open distributed systems is better conducted when the activities related to overall system understanding, behavior verification, implementation, and documentation are well supported. The objective of this work is to use Software Enginneering practices in the development of open distributed systems, proposing an appropriate combination of methods, techniques, and tools. A study was carried out taking into account temporal and communication requirements, characteristics very common in distributed applications. The combination mentioned above inc1udes the OMT method for modeling the static aspects of the system, the SDL technique for modeling the dynamical and functional aspects, and CASE tools for graphical edition df the diagrams, simulation, code generation, and documentation. An evaluation of the methods, techniques and tools used is also presented. One conc1usionof this evaluation reveals that the proposed combination of methods improve several aspects of the open distributed systems development process, as reported in the thesis / Mestrado / Automação Industrial / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

Barreto, Matheus de Carvalho 30 April 1999 (has links)
In this thesis, the Registration and Call Setup signallings of a terminal in a wireless ATM network - WATM are formally specified in SDL (Specification and Description Language) and simulated using the SDT1 (SDL Design Tool). During the Registration signalling specification, the insertion of a signal, Updated, is proposed, which has the function of updating the terminal registration data, whenever the terminal is initially registered as a visitor, and has its register data modified to its own domain. To the Call Setup signalling a modification on the sequence is proposed, where the acceptance of the quality of service (QoS) of the connection is verified. This modification aims at decreasing the messages flow among the components of the network when the connection request is denied due to the QoS. For the purpose of validation, the specifications proposed were simulated. Many configurations of the WATM network were simulated. The simulations results were presented in MSC (Message Sequence Chart) graphics, where the messages swapped among the network devices, for each specified signalling, are shown. Some examples of specifications faults detected during the simulations as well as their corrections were also shown / Mestrado / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

Merging Modelling Techniques: A Case Study and its Implications

Söderström, Eva January 1999 (has links)
There are a countless number of methods in the field of Information Systems Development (ISD) today, where only a few have received much attention by practitioners. These ISD methods are described and developed using knowledge in the field of Method Engineering (ME). Most methods concern either what a system is to contain or how the system is to be realised, but as of now, there is no best method for all situations. Bridging the gap between the fuzzier "what"-methods and the more formal "how"-methods is difficult, if not impossible. Methods therefore need to be integrated to cover as much of the systems life cycle as possible. An integration of two methods, one from each side of the gap, can be performed in a number of different ways, each way having its own obstacles that need to be overcome. The case study we have performed concerns a method integration of the fuzzier Business Process Model (BPM) in the EKD method with the more formal description technique SDL (Specification and Description Language). One meta model per technique was created, which were then used to compare BPM and SDL. The integration process consisted of translating EKD business process diagrams into SDL correspondences, while carefully documenting and analysing encountered problems. The encountered problems mainly arose because of either transaction-independence differences or method focus deviations. The case study resulted in, for example, a number of implications for both EKD and SDL, as well as for ME, and include suggestions for future work.

Lindberg, Jonas, Wilhelmsson, Oskar January 2020 (has links)

The New Grocery Trade : A qualitative interview study on the exchange of information between retailers and consumers

Boije, Marcus, Palm, Jakob January 2022 (has links)
The technical development has created a unique opportunity for the traditional trade businesses to move to a digital platform or e-commerce format. E-commerce has seen a large increase in the past years and is considered a major alternative to the more traditional trade since it gives consumers an opportunity to adapt the service to meet their needs. The aim of the study is to investigate information exchange between actors involved in grocery stores e-commerce. The digitization means that consumers and suppliers of the service do not physically meet, which means that that communication must be replaced to help the consumer. The exchange of information between consumer and retailer must be replaced with sufficient product information to facilitate customer needs. E-commerce and physical stores differ in many ways and the handling of fresh produce is an important aspect. Service-dominant logic (SDL) is used as the study's primary theoretical framework for analyzing the empirical data and to better understand what draws consumers to the grocery trade's e-commerce. SDL is a logic that, unlike its predecessor, puts actors at the center, in the grocery trade it primarily includes the customer and the retailer. The actors create a value co-creation, which can be seen as a co-created value where both parties must be present to create the joint value. The study chose to design a qualitative study based on three central points: the consumer perspective, the technical perspective and the service perspective. Based on this, interviews were conducted which were then transcribed and analyzed to answer the study's questions. Analysis of the result was done with the theoretical framework (SDL) and the rewritten literature to arrive at a conclusion. The results of the analysis show that the study's informants perceive the exchange of information as insufficient and do not meet their demands regarding the service. The lack of information therefore also affects the handling of fresh produce, it’s not clear how the consumer should go about resolving the situation.

Análise, design e inovação de modelos de negócios para servitização / Analysis, design and innovation of business models for servitization.

Costa, Renato Machado 13 June 2017 (has links)
Manufacturing companies traditionally are focused on designing, developing, manufacturing and marketing physical products. However, some manufacturers are changing their business strategies, complementing the sale of products by providing services, adding knowledge and activities associated with their use, and creating a higher perception of value by their customers.Strategic competition through service delivery has become a hallmark of the innovative manufacturing companies, providing the companies with a robust means to protect their market from competitors. Thus, there is a growing interest in researching the role of services in sustaining the competitiveness of manufacturing industry.Service-oriented approaches, which incorporate this shift in business\' focus from offering isolated products, to proposing integrated solutions, have been addressed in the literature as servitization, and typically entail innovations in the company\'s business model (BM). The goal of this research is investigating how companies can promote transformations in their BMs to support their servitization strategies, and proposing a set of artifacts to support them in the implementation of these strategies, since the following research problem: \"How to innovate the BM of a company which adopts the servitization strategy? \", which unfolds in the following questions: (i) what are the main motivating factors for a company to adopt the servitization strategy?; (ii) how to represent the BM of a company incorporating the service-dominant logic, more suitable for servitization?; (iii) how to innovate a company\'s BM to implement its servitization strategy ?; and (iv) how to apply the proposed artifacts to support the implementation of the servitization strategy in a company? An exploratory and prescriptive research is carried out, based on the design science research methodology, and supported by a systematic literature review on the related subjects, aiming at proposing artifacts in response to the questions posed. The demonstration of the proposed artifacts is done by means of a case study in a multinational company, which manufactures medical devices, followed by an assessment of this demonstration, supported by the thinking aloud method. From the four research questions, the following results are obtained: (i) identification, analysis and categorization of the main motivating factors for servitization adoption; (ii) proposing a BM architecture according to the service-dominant logic, to help the servitization study; (iii) proposing an innovation process for the company\'s BM, to implement the servitization; and (iv) demonstration and assessment of the proposed BM architecture for servitization. The research offers contributions to the literature of BM and servitization, and to practitioners, proposing the artifacts business model canvas for servitization (BMCS) and the IPIDI process for innovation of BM for servitization, besides some methodological contributions related to design science research and thinking aloud.
