On the Dynamic Analysis of a Standard and Self-Steering Semitrailers

Elmadany, Mohamed M. 06 1900 (has links)
No abstract is provided. / Thesis / Master of Engineering (MEngr) / Scope and contents: This thesis describes an analytical study of the dynamics of a tractor-semitrailer vehicle. Two mathematical models; an articulated vehicle with self steering semitrailer and an articulated vehicle with a standard semitrailer, are developed to describe the longitudinal, lateral, vertical, pitching, rolling and yawing motions of the vehicle on a rough road surface. The natural frequencies of and the damped eigenvalues for both models are calculated. The steady state response of the vehicle components to the sinusoidal input profile of varying frequencies is calculated and the response curves are computer plotted in each case. For the self-steering semitrailer, the effect of varying the spring stiffness at the fifth wheel is studied. The dynamic loads imparted to the pavement due to the dynamic action of the vehicle in response to road irregularities, are also calculated. A discussion of the conclusions drawn from the analysis is given.

Semi-Trailer Structural Failure Analysis Using Finite Element Method

Baadkar, Chetan Chandrakant January 2010 (has links)
This project is centred on an ongoing trailer component failure problem at the STEELBRO New Zealand Ltd due to cracks. In this research the problem has been systematically approached using ANSYS finite element analysis software. The approach involves investigation of the problem and structural analysis of the trailer subjected to two types of service conditions. The service conditions are simulated in ANSYS which involved CAD and finite element modelling of the trailer, and then the finite element model is validated experimentally by strain gauges and geometrically by ANSYS element shape checking capability. The finite element model subjected to static structural analysis confirmed the crack locations and indicated the cause of the failure. Further fatigue analysis on one of the loading condition revealed it’s potential to cause failure at the crack locations. Finally, this research concludes with a proposal of revised component design to overcome the failure at the crack locations and recommendations for further analysis on the trailer.

В., Azev, M. V. January 2020 (has links)
The growth of transportation by road trains is significantly constrained by their low off-road opportunities and enables to use in areas with a small network of improved roads. There are a lot of ways to improve efficient using road trains in difficult road conditions. However, the most efficient way is transfer torque from truck to trailer wheels which will active in this situation. Author considered the issues of improve off-road opportunities road trains and also constructed a mechanical active drive of the trailer wheels.

Análise do desempenho na frenagem de um cavalo mecânico e semi-reboque com suspensão mecânica e sistema ABS mediante simulação em Matlab/Simulink / Analysis of the performance of tractor-semitrailer vehicles with mechanical suspension and ABS system through simulation in Matlab/Simulink

Viveros, Henry Pizarro 29 October 2010 (has links)
This dissertation reports on the development of a simulation model for the analysis of the braking performance of tractor-semitrailer vehicles that use the ABS (Antilock Braking System). The model was developed using the virtual simulation technique of multibody systems with SimMechanics, a toolbox of Matlab/Simulink. In this simulation model the mechanical and geometrical parameters of the chassis, suspensions, brakes, adhesion coefficient, and load sensing valve were considered. When the vehicle is decelerating, the normal forces between the tire and road surface are obtained by the virtual model. These forces are the input of a subroutine in which the braking forces are calculated when the S Came brakes are triggered. Simulations of braking on straight line in road were made for average adhesion coefficient (0.4) and high adhesion coefficient (0.8). Efficiencies were obtained when the tractor used fixed ABS configuration of a 6S/6M type, and the semitrailer used the ABS type: 2S/lM (and 4.6); 2S/2M (and 4.6); 4S/2M (e4); 4S/2M (e6); 4S/3M (e4); 4S/3M (e6); 4S/4M (e4) and 4S/4M (e6) and 6S/6M. The results are presented in figures which show, the normal dynamic forces between tire and road, adhesions used by the tires and the efficiencies achieved by different ABS configurations installed in the semi-trailer. It is possible to conclude that in general ABS configurations with more sensors and modulating valves produce higher efficiency and the use of any configuration as a complementary system of the ABS brake system service increases the braking efficiency, which is always higher than that of a vehicle without ABS. The results help preserving the vehicle stability and maneuverability, preventing road accidents in emergency situations.

Cirkulär masshantering : En fallstudie om optimerad resurseffektivitet inom projekt Ostlänken / Circular mass management : A case study on optimized resource efficiency in the East Link Project

Hosseini, Arvin January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of the report is to pay attention to the reuse potential of soil masses in infrastructure projects, specifically the East Link Project and how resource efficiency can be optimized. The practical purpose of the study is to contribute to a more sustainable mass management in the East Link Project. This report has been written in the form of a case study with two types of cases where triangulation has been implemented in the research methodology to combine qualitative with quantitative methods. Criterions for the analytical method of the report are based on an overall efficiency assessment, where analyzed criterions are economy, climate and risk. The result indicates that excavated soil masses that are transported by semi-trailers outside the project area to a fictional landfill are costlier and emit more CO2 equivalents than soil masses that are transported by a dumper truck inside the project area for reuse purposes. The analysis indicates that an increased maximum load in combination with a shorter distance is the most cost-efficient option. The study also highlights the importance of including the entire value chain (client-consultant-contractor) as well as updating the industry's otherwise conservative approach to mass management.
