Efeitos da administração perinatal do Citrato de Clomifeno na função reprodutiva de ratos Wistar: comportamento sexual, avaliação hormonal e plasmática / Effects of perinatal administration of Clomiphene Citrate on the reproductive function of Wistar rats: sexual behavior, plasma and hormonal evaluation

Oliani, Andrea Lucia Natali 28 November 2012 (has links)
Sexual differentiation of the brain is an important phenomenon that occurs perinatally essential to define some behavioral patterns of sexual orientation in adulthood. This event occurs after an abrupt discharge of testicular testosterone in newborns that E2 is converted into estrogen by aromatase in the hypothalamus of the newborn and, along with that of maternal origin promotes changes in the brain that determine sexual orientation male neonate. In females, the E organizes the female brain and sexual orientation. Thus, we investigated the effect of clomiphene citrate, aromatase inhibitor in male and female rats treated perinatally. The results showed behavioral and biochemical changes consistent with demasculinization, altered sexual behavior of both sexes, homosexual behavior, estrous cycle, changing levels of testosterone, estrogen, FSH and LH and organ weight in adulthood. The results are explained by blocking the aromatase during the period of sexual differentiation of the brain.

Contextual interpretations of sexual fantasy

Evans, Susan January 1998 (has links)
Submitted in partial fulfillment of a degree of Master of Arts by Coursework and Research Report at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa 1998 / A combination of written and interview protocols were collected from 4 participants, two men aged 27 and 29, and two women, 24 and 28. The participants responded to questions about their understanding and use of sexual fantasy, giving concrete examples. The data were analysed qualitatively using the phenomenological themes of Space, Time and Being. These themes demonstrated the value of examining sexual fantasy experience as a unique lived experience. The data were then discussed in light of this and also with reference to previous research. The data collected for this study demonstrate the unique way in which fantasy exists in interaction with its fantasiser. It also highlights the change between the fantasy and the retrospective experience of fantasy. / MT2017

THE ROLE OF SEXUAL SELF-SCHEMA AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DISTRESS IN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SEXUAL VICTIMIZATION AND SEXUAL FUNCTIONING AND SATISFACTION

Medina, Alexandra 01 June 2019 (has links)
Sexual assault (SA) has been associated with various negative psychological consequences for survivors. Recent studies have shown an association between the history of sexual assault and sexual dysfunction among female survivors of sexual victimization. Specifically, sexual assault survivors experience difficulties with aspects of sexual functioning, sexual satisfaction, and sexual self-schemas (Rellini & Meston, 2011). The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between sexual victimization severity and sexual functioning and sexual satisfaction. In addition, we tested a sequential mediational model in which sexual self-schema followed by depressive and PTSD symptoms would mediate the relationship between sexual victimization severity and sexual satisfaction and sexual functioning. Seventy-three female college students with a history of sexual victimization were asked to complete a series of self-report questionnaires designed to assess the history of sexual victimization, sexual functioning, sexual satisfaction, sexual self-schemas and psychological distress levels (i.e., depression and posttraumatic stress disorder symptom severity). Results revealed no significant associations between severity of sexual victimization and sexual satisfaction and sexual functioning. Additionally, our sequential mediational models, in which sexual self-schema followed by depressive and PTSD symptoms would mediate the relationship between sexual victimization severity and sexual satisfaction and functioning were non-significant. Our findings may have been limited due to the lack of variability in sexual victimization severity. Future studies further investigating the role of sexual self-schema, depression, and PTSD on sexual functioning and sexual satisfaction among sexual assault survivors are warranted.

Health seeking behaviour in relation to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Nkomazi East of Mpumalanga

Eche, Mecha Nwoke January 2010 (has links)
Thesis (M. Med.(Family Medicine))--University of Limpopo (Medunsa Campus), 2010. / Background: The control of STIs remains a priority for the WHO. Health – seeking and sexual behaviors are important elements in the control of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Aim: To assess health seeking behavior in relation to STIs amongst community members of Nkomazi East area of Mpumalanga who use Tonga hospital’s feeder clinics and comprehensive health centers. Study Design: This was a quantitative research carried out as a non-experimental, descriptive cross-sectional survey employing the use of questionnaires for data collection. Questionnaires covering social, demographic, and healthcare-seeking and sexual behaviour information were administered to 332 patients attending primary care clinics in Nkomazi East area of Mpumalanga. Results: Majority of the participants were single, literate, unemployed blacks aged between 16 – 23 years (43.7%). Participants displayed an exceptionally high STI knowledge with urethral discharge, painful micturition, vaginal discharge and lower abdominal pain the most recognised STI symptoms. All the participants (100%) sought help on perceiving that they have an STI. Preferred source of help is the public health sector with traditional healers also finding some relevance. While compliance to treatment is largely satisfactory, ongoing unsafe sexual practices with active STI seem to be common place. Conclusion: Participants displayed a high knowledge of STI symptoms and signs. Public health facilities were the preferred source of health. Health seeking seemed to be influenced by multiple factors. Financial consideration was not much of a factor while seeking help compared to accessibility to health facility and stigma or shame. Belief system, influence by family members, friends and partners were also important factors influencing health seeking behaviour

Situational correlates of disclosure of child sexual abuse

Wiley, Elizabeth Stirling 17 February 2005 (has links)
Often, a sexually abused child’s disclosure is the only evidence of the abuse. However, most victims do not disclose until adulthood, if ever. This study explores situational correlates of child sexual abuse disclosure. An archival data set comprised of 1120 cases of child sexual abuse was analyzed. Questions asked include whether or not any variable differentiates between the type of disclosure a child makes, the identity of the recipient of the disclosure, whether or not a child will recant, and if a child does recant, in what timeframe this occurs. Variables included victim characteristics (gender, ethnicity, age, family income) and abuse characteristics (relationship to the perpetrator, nature of the abuse, threat involved, frequency of abuse, and duration of abuse.) T-tests, chi-square analyses, and log linear modeling were used in the analysis of the data. Although statistical limitations were an issue, age and threat were found to be influential in the disclosure process.
