Diagnostic et commande tolérante aux défauts appliqués à un système de conversion électromécanique à base d’une machine asynchrone triphasée / Diagnostic and fault tolerant control applied to an electromechanical conversion system based on three phase induction motor

L’objectif de cette thèse est de proposer des stratégies de diagnostic dans le cas d'une commande en vitesse sans capteur mécanique (vitesse/position) d’une machine asynchrone triphasée en présence de défaut d'ouverture des transistors IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) de l’onduleur. Une étude de l’impact de ces défauts sur les performances de ces structures sans capteur mécanique en termes de stabilité et de robustesse des observateurs en mode dégradé est présentée. Un observateur par mode glissant (Sliding Mode Observer) à base de modèle est développé et validé expérimentalement en vue de la commande sans capteur mécanique de la machine asynchrone triphasée. Les signaux issus de l’observateur (approche modèle) sont utilisés conjointement avec ceux mesurés (approche signale) pour former une approche hybride de diagnostic de défauts des transistors IGBT de l’onduleur. Un observateur par mode glissant d’ordre 2 à base d’un algorithme Super-Twisting est ensuite développé en vue d’améliorer la stabilité et d’assurer la continuité de fonctionnement du système en présence d'un défaut afin de pouvoir appliquer une stratégie de commande tolérante aux défauts dans les meilleures délais et conditions de fonctionnement. / The main goal of this thesis is to propose diagnostic strategies in the case of a sensorless speed control of a three-phase induction motor under an opened-switch or opened-phase fault. A qualitative analysis of the performances, in terms of stability and robustness, of sensorless control applied to the electrical drive in pre-fault and post-fault operation modes is presented. A model-based sliding mode observer is developed and experimentally validated for sensorless speed control of three-phase induction motor. The signals issued from the observer (model approach) as well as the measured ones (signal approach) are simultaneously used to form a hybrid approach for inverter open-switch fault detection and identification. A second-order sliding mode observer based on Super-Twisting algorithm (STA) is also developed to improve the stability and to ensure the continuity of operation of the electrical drive especially during transient states induced by the fault, permitting thus to apply the reconfiguration step without losing the control

Analysis of material flow and simulation-based optimization of transportation system : The combination of simulation and Lean to evaluate and design a transportation system

The thesis has been performed in cooperation with a Swedish manufacturing company. The manufacturing site of the company is currently implementing a new machine layout in one of its workshops. The new layout will increase the product flow to another workshop on the site. The goal of the thesis was to evaluate the current transportation system and suggest viable alternatives for the future product flow. By means of discrete event simulation these alternative solutions would be modelled and subsequently optimized to determine if their performance is satisfactory. An approximated investment cost of the solutions would also be estimated. By performing a literature review and creating a frame of reference, a set of relevant methodologies were selected to provide a foundation to the project. Following these methodologies, the current state of transportation was identified and mapped using Value Stream Mapping. Necessary data from the current flow was identified and collected from the company computer systems. This data was deemed partly inaccurate and further verification was needed. To this end, a combination of Genchi Genbutsu, assistance from onsite engineers and a time study was used to verify the unreliable data points. The data sets from the time study and the company data which was deemed valid were represented by statistical distributions to provide input for the simulation models. Two possible solutions were picked for evaluation, an automated guided vehicle system and a tow train system. With the help of onsite personnel, a Kaizen Event was performed in which new possible routing for the future flow was evaluated. A set of simulation models portraying the automated guided vehicle system and the tow train system were developed with the aid of simulation software. The results from these models showed a low utilization of both systems. A new set of models were developed, which included all the product flows between the workshops. The new flows were modelled as generic pallets with the arrival distribution based on historical production data. This set of models were then subject for optimization with regard to the work in process and lead time of the system. The results from the optimization indicates the possibility to reduce the overall work in process by reducing certain buffer sizes while still maintaining the required throughput. These solutions were not deemed to be ready for implementation due to the low utilization of the transportation systems. The authors instead recommend expanding the scope of the system and including other product flows to reach a high utilization.

Physicochemical Characterization and Gas Sensing Studies of Cr1-xFexNbO4 and Application of Principal Component Analysis

Monitoring the working environment of laboratories and industries for pollutants is of primary concern to ensure the healthiness of working personnel. Semiconducting metal oxides (SMOs) are sensitive to the gas ambience and can be tuned for sensing purpose. As SMOs are not selective, an array of sensors with differential selectivity may resolve to great extent. The objective of the thesis is to understand the physicochemical properties and gas sensing characteristics of Cr1-xFexNbO4. Applying principal component analysis to the sensor response data either for selection of features or for differentiation of analysts is also of concern. Preparation of Cr1-xFexNbO4, phase characterization, lattice parameters estimation, morphological and micro chemical analysis (SEM & EDX), electrical characterization by direct current (DC & AC) in the temperature range of 423 K to 573 K, weighted magnetic moment of iron and chromium deduced from susceptibility measurements, spin nature of iron and surface compositions of different valences of chromium and iron deduced from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of are presented. The wide dynamic range hydrogen sensing characteristics of CrNbO4 bulk pellets at different temperatures along with the cross-sensitivity towards NH3, NOx(NO+NO2) and PG (petroleum gas) are investigated. The preparation of Cr1-xFexNbO4 thick and thin films by screen-printing and PLD are also presented. The thick films are tested at different temperatures towards hydrogen. The n-type or p-type nature of thick films towards hydrogen with varying iron concentration in Cr1-xFexNbO4 is reported. The thin films are characterized for phase formation, morphology by XRD, SEM and AFM. XPS performed surface characterization. Electrical resistance measurements at different temperatures and preliminary experiments on hydrogen sensing are presented. The probable hydrogen sensing mechanism of CrNbO4 was revealed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The experimentally observed reduction in metal ion oxidation states upon interacting with hydrogen is best illustrated by Kröger Vink notation. Principal component analysis was applied for three different types of studies: i) The fit parameters of the transient response of CrNbO4 thick films towards hydrogen are analyzed for finding out the better feature for calibration, ii) Different thick films of CrNbO4, Cr0.5Fe0.5NbO4 and FeNbO4 operated at various temperatures for testing H2 and VOCs are analyzed for redundancy in sensor behaviour and iii) Cr0.8Fe0.2NbO4 thick films are studied for sensing H2, NH3 and their mixtures and usefulness of PCA in resolving them in PC-space. In addition, H2 and VOCs are tested at different temperatures and redundancy in temperature is deduced to construct a sensor array with a minimum number of sensors. Finally, a sensor array consisting of Cr0.8Fe0.2NbO4 thick films, operating at different temperatures is built, and qualitative discrimination of analysts in PC-space is demonstrated. Finally, the major findings of the present investigations and suggestions for future aspects of experimentation are provided

Vismodegib – Inhibitor des Hedgehog-Signaltransduktionsweges – in der ex-vivo-Chemoresponsetestung bei Kopf-Hals-Tumoren

Purpose: The Hedgehog-signalling pathway (Hh) is frequently active in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Overexpressed Hh associates with poor prognosis. The Hh inhibitor vismodegib targets smoothened (SMO) and, based on molecular data, may prevent resistance to EGFR targeting. Methods: To elucidate potential roles of vismodegib in HNSCC therapy, its sole effects and those combined with cisplatin, docetaxel, and cetuximab on HNSCC cell lines were assessed by MTT metabolisation and BrdU incorporation. Colony formation (CF) of primary HNSCC cells was studied utilizing the FLAVINO-protocol. Combinatory effects were analysed regarding antagonism, additivity or synergism. Associations between the ex vivo detected mode of action of vismodegib with other treatments related to patient characteristics were assessed and progression-free survival (PFS) in patient groups compared using Kaplan-Meier curves. Results: Vismodegib suppressed BrdU incorporation significantly stronger than MTT turnover; CF was significantly inhibited at ≥20 µM vismodegib while concentrations <20 µM acted hormetic. Combining 20 µM vismodegib plus docetaxel (T), cisplatin (P), and cetuximab (E), additively enhanced antitumoral activity in HNSCC samples from patients with superior PFS highlighting a potential role for ex-vivo testing of this combination for use as a prognostic classifier. FPGA Based Control of Multiple Electric Machines for Marine Propulsion Systems / FPGA-baserad styrning av flertal elektriska maskiner för marina drivsystem

This master thesis addresses the control of electric propulsion motors in a marine context. The focus lies mainly on the implementation of field oriented control (FOC) in a field programmable gate array (FPGA). The hypothesis is that FPGAs provide performance advantages over microcontroller-based control solutions by enabling parallel processing. Zparq AB, a startup specializing in electric marine propulsion, serves as the industry partner for this project. They develop sustainable alternatives to traditional fossil fuel powered propulsion, and the aim is to develop every included part of their electric propulsion systems inhouse. That makes the development of an FPGA-based motor control solution relevant to their goal. The research question focuses on how multiple marine propulsion motors can be controlled from a single FPGA. To answer this, the study investigates relevant engineering aspects such as reference frame transformations, motor control strategies, pulse width modulation (PWM) methods and technological aspects of modern FPGA architectures. For developing the motor controller, a Digilent Arty Z7-20 FPGA board is used. In the design process, all included functions are written as code in a hardware description language (HDL). This approach aims at maintaining complete insight in all details of the solution. Two variants of conventional FOC are developed; one with position feedback from an encoder and one sensorless. The developed motor controller is tested by controlling a brushless direct current (BLDC) motor, and the results prove the functionality of the encoder-based variant. They also show a latency of less than 15 microseconds and indicate the feasibility of the chosen approach. The modularity of the FPGA is demonstrated by successfully controlling two motors, using two copies of the developed solution in a single FPGA. A discussion on combining FPGA-based controllers with wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductors is also included, where the main discussed advantage is high switching frequency. In conclusion, the results and insights from the project contribute to future development of FPGA-based motor control solutions, both within Zparq and the research field. The insights regarding the specific chosen approach for the FPGA development can also be useful for similar projects. / Detta masterarbete behandlar styrning av elektriska motorer i ett marint kontext. Fokus ligger huvudsakligen på implementeringen av fältorienterad styrning (FOC) i en ifält-programmerbar grindmatris (FPGA). Hypotesen är att FPGAer erbjuder prestandafördelar jämfört med mikrokontroller-baserade styrlösningar, genom att möjliggöra parallella beräkningsprocesser. Zparq AB, ett startup som specialiserar sig på elektriska marina drivsystem, är industripartner för detta projekt. De utvecklar hållbara alternativ till traditionell fossildriven framdrift och målet är att på egen hand utveckla alla ingående delar i deras elektriska drivsystem. Det gör att utvecklingen av en FPGA-baserad lösning för motorstyrning är relevant inom ramen för deras mål. Forskningsfrågan fokuserar på hur ett flertal motorer för marin framdrift kan styras från en enda FPGA. För utvecklingen av motorstyrningen används ett Digilent Arty Z7-20 FPGA-kort. I designprocessen formuleras alla inkluderade funktioner som kod i ett hårdvarubeskrivande språk (HDL). Detta tillvägagångssätt syftar till att ha god insyn i hela lösningen, ner på detaljnivå. Två varianter av konventionell FOC utvecklas; en med positionsfeedback från vinkelgivare och en sensorlös. Den utvecklade motorstyrningen testas genom att driva en borstlös likströmsmotor (BLDC) och resultaten visar på den vinkelgivarbaserade variantens funktionalitet. De visar även att fördröjningen är under 15 mikrosekunder, samt på genomförbarheten av det valda tillvägagångssättet. Modulariteten i FPGAn demonstreras genom att framgångsrikt styra två motorer med hjälp av två kopior av den utvecklade lösningen i en och samma FPGA. En diskussion kring att kombinera FPGA-baserad styrning och halvledare med brett bandgap (WBG) är också inkluderad, där den huvudsakliga fördelen som diskuteras är hög switchfrekvens.svis bidrar resultaten och insikterna från projektet till framtida utveckling av FPGA-baserade lösningar för motorstyrning, både inom Zparq och övriga forskningsfältet. Insikterna från det specifika valda tillvägagångssättet för FPGA-utvecklingen kan även de vara användbara i liknande projekt.

Contributions to the study of control for small-scale wind turbine connected to electrical microgrid with and without sensor / Contribution à l'étude des commandes avec et sans capteur d'une éolienne de faible puissance insérée dans un micro réseau électrique

L'objectif de cette thèse est de proposer l'approche la plus appropriée afin de minimiser le coût d'intégration de petite éolienne dans un micro-réseau DC urbain. Une petit éolienne basé sur un machine synchrone à aimant permanent (MSAP) est considéré à étudier. Un état de l'art concernant les énergies renouvelables, micro-réseau DC, et la production d'énergie éolienne, est fait. Comme le capteur mécanique de cette structure est relativement d'un coût élevé, les différents types de contrôle pour un système de conversion éolienne sont présentés afin de choisir une structure active de conversion d'énergie et un MSAP sans capteur. Par conséquent, un estimateur de vitesse/position est nécessaire pour contrôler le système. Ainsi, les méthodes différentes proposées dans la littérature sont considérées et classifiées à étudier dans les détails, puis les plus efficaces et largement utilisés sont à vérifier dans la simulation et expérimentalement pour le système étudié. Les méthodes choisies sont: estimation de la flux de rotor avec boucle à verrouillage de phase (PLL), observateur à mode glissement (SMO), observateur de Luenberger d'ordre réduit, et filtre de Kalman étendu (EKF). Face à d'autres méthodes, l'estimateur basé sur un modèle EKF permet une commande sans capteur dans une large plage de vitesse et estime la vitesse de rotation avec une réponse rapide. Le réglage des paramètres EKF est le problème principal à sa mise en œuvre. Par conséquent, pour résoudre ce problème, la thèse présente une méthode adaptative, à savoir réglage-adaptatif d’EKF. En conséquence, et grâce à cette approche, le coût total du système de conversion est réduite et la performance est garantie et optimisée. / The aim of this thesis is to propose the most appropriate approach in order to minimize the cost of integration of a wind generator into a DC urban microgrid. A small-scale wind generator based on a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) is considered to be studied. A state of the art concerning the renewable energies, DC microgrid, and wind power generation is done. As the mechanical sensor for this structure is relatively of high cost, various types of wind conversion system control are presented in order to choose an energy conversion active structure and a sensorless PMSM. Therefore, a speed/position estimator is required to control the system. Thus, different methods proposed in literatures are considered and classified to be studied in details, and then the most effective and widely used ones are to be verified in simulation and experimentally for the studied system. The methods which are chosen are: rotor flux estimation with phase locked loop (PLL), sliding mode observer (SMO), Luenberger observer of reduced order, and extended Kalman filter (EKF). Facing to other methods, the EKF model-based estimator allows sensorless drive control in a wide speed range and estimates the rotation speed with a rapid response. The EKF parameters tuning is the main problem to its implementation. Hence, to solve this problem, the thesis introduces an adaptive method, i.e. adaptive-tuning EKF. As a result and grace to this approach, the total cost of conversion system is reduced and the performance is guaranteed and optimized.

Distributed Support Vector Machine With Graphics Processing Units

Training a Support Vector Machine (SVM) requires the solution of a very large quadratic programming (QP) optimization problem. Sequential Minimal Optimization (SMO) is a decomposition-based algorithm which breaks this large QP problem into a series of smallest possible QP problems. However, it still costs O(n2) computation time. In our SVM implementation, we can do training with huge data sets in a distributed manner (by breaking the dataset into chunks, then using Message Passing Interface (MPI) to distribute each chunk to a different machine and processing SVM training within each chunk). In addition, we moved the kernel calculation part in SVM classification to a graphics processing unit (GPU) which has zero scheduling overhead to create concurrent threads. In this thesis, we will take advantage of this GPU architecture to improve the classification performance of SVM.
