A cavity-backed coplanar waveguide slot antenna array

Mcknight, James W 01 June 2009 (has links)
In this thesis, a cavity-backed slot antenna array is designed for relatively wide instantaneous bandwidth, high gain and low sidelobes. The array consists of four, rectangular, slot elements, arranged side-by-side in a linear array and developed around 5GHz. Two feed points, at opposing sides of the printed array, each excite two of the slot elements through a series feed. This bidirectional feed presents symmetry to the design and prevents the tendency of beam-drift versus frequency as is common with many series-fed arrays. While being fed in-phase, the array will maintain boresight at broadside over the entire operating bandwidth. Also, the additional port allows for the potential introduction of a phase offset and, therefore, beam tilt. Finally, the printed array is designed to function within a quarter-wave, metallic cavity to achieve unidirectional radiation and improve gain.

Styrning och nödbroms av ModuLith

Attervall, Sebastian, Gustafsson, Nichlas January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this project is to get a fully functional, automatic steering system and a variable breaking system with an emergency breaking function to an off road vehicle. This off road vehicle is supposed to work as an aid in military situations. A team of two, Sebastian Attervall and Nichlas Gustafsson, got an order from Jonas Nyårds and the PreeRunners Project to construct a steering system that could manoeuvre an off road vehicle without any human involvement. To make this possible the vehicle would be guided by onboard sensors, cameras and computers. The team where also assigned to construct an automatic breaking system, there also no human would be involved. The breaking system should as well contain an emergency stop function to prevent any accidents. The team has solved the problems assigned by using theories by David G. Ullman. The system that was eventually chosen was a steering system containing a 48V, 250W DC motor. A planetary gear where chosen to increase the torque from the engine. To translate the torque from the planetary gear to the steering bar a chain with chainwheel where chosen, this because the chain and chainwheel could withstand the immense forces acting on the chain. Between the planetary gear and the chainwheel a skid clutch is placed to prevent destruction on the planetary gear due to overload. The whole steering system is monitored by two rotary encoders, one placed on the engine and one placed on the steering bar. The breaking system eventually chosen where a system build on the existing drum brakes, placed in the front. To make the system independent from any human interference a system containing a linear motor, an electromagnet and a spring where chosen. The system works by letting the spring act on the wire from the existing drum breaks. The spring is always compressed so a force will always act on the wire when the system is at rest. By compressing the spring further the force acting on the wire will decrease and by compressing it enough the breaks will be released. The force compressing the spring will come from the linear motor. And to make the system failsafe in case of an emergency an electromagnet will be placed between the linear motor and the spring. When the power is cut to the electromagnet the compressed spring will be released and the drum breaks will break. The breaking system as well will be supervised by encoders and in this case linear encoders.

Stability Control of Electric Vehicles with In-wheel Motors

Jalali, Kiumars 14 June 2010 (has links)
Recently, mostly due to global warming concerns and high oil prices, electric vehicles have attracted a great deal of interest as an elegant solution to environmental and energy problems. In addition to the fact that electric vehicles have no tailpipe emissions and are more efficient than internal combustion engine vehicles, they represent more versatile platforms on which to apply advanced motion control techniques, since motor torque and speed can be generated and controlled quickly and precisely. The chassis control systems developed today are distinguished by the way the individual subsystems work in order to provide vehicle stability and control. However, the optimum driving dynamics can only be achieved when the tire forces on all wheels and in all three directions can be influenced and controlled precisely. This level of control requires that the vehicle is equipped with various chassis control systems that are integrated and networked together. Drive-by-wire electric vehicles with in-wheel motors provide the ideal platform for developing the required control system in such a situation. The focus of this thesis is to develop effective control strategies to improve driving dynamics and safety based on the philosophy of individually monitoring and controlling the tire forces on each wheel. A two-passenger electric all-wheel-drive urban vehicle (AUTO21EV) with four direct-drive in-wheel motors and an active steering system is designed and developed in this work. Based on this platform, an advanced fuzzy slip control system, a genetic fuzzy yaw moment controller, an advanced torque vectoring controller, and a genetic fuzzy active steering controller are developed, and the performance and effectiveness of each is evaluated using some standard test maneuvers. Finally, these control systems are integrated with each other by taking advantage of the strengths of each chassis control system and by distributing the required control effort between the in-wheel motors and the active steering system. The performance and effectiveness of the integrated control approach is evaluated and compared to the individual stability control systems, again based on some predefined standard test maneuvers.

Steering Laws For Control Moment Gyroscope Systems Used In Spacecraft Attitude Control

Yavuzoglu, Emre 01 December 2003 (has links) (PDF)
In this thesis, the kinematic properties of Single Gimballed Control Moment Gyroscopes (SGCMGs) are investigated. Singularity phenomenon inherent to them is explained. Furthermore, existing steering laws with their derivations are given. A novel steering law is developed that may provide singularity avoidance or may be used for quick transition through a singularity with small torque errors. To avoid singularity angular momentum trajectory of the maneuver is to be simulated in advance for the calculation of singularity free gimbal histories. The steering law, besides accurately generating required torques, also pushes the system to follow trajectories closely if there is a small difference between the planned and the realized momentum histories. Thus, it may be used in a feedback system. Also presented are number of approaches for singularity avoidance or quick transition through a singularity. The application of these ideas to the feedback controlled spacecraft is also presented. Existing steering laws and the proposed method are compared through computer simulations. It is shown that the proposed steering law is very effective in singularity avoidance and quick transition through singularities. Furthermore, the approach is demonstrated to be repeatable even singularity is encountered.

Salvador

Pilotage des usinages tridimensionnels / Stearing of three-dimensional machinings

Abdelhakim, Boukar 22 January 2014 (has links)
In most mechanical manufacturing companies, setting machine-tools is a task delegated to the setter who seeks to ensure tolerances. This has the consequence of increasing the adjustment time with a quality that is not at the desired level. Over the past six years, the SYMME laboratory has developed steering methods (Copilot -Pro ® and inertial steering) to solve the problem of setting machine tools. Based on these methods, the works presented make a synthesis and presents new advances in steering of digital controls (CNC) to obtain the best quality regardless of the complexity of the part. The contribution of this workis presented in five chapters. The first chapter presents the general context of the research and makes a state of the art of existing works, on the one hand on the steering and on the other hand on the conformity. The steering consists in reducing the variability around the target products and the conformity consists in verifyingthat the dispersion of a characteristic is inside its tolerance interval. The second chapter discusses the methods of steering which consist in establishing the relationship between the characteristics of the workpiece and thetool-offsets and propose solutions to improve the calculation of the correction taking into account both tolerances and number of points probed on the surfaces of the workpiece. The third chapter presents the steering strategies and highlights the limitations of conventional methods for detecting out of control situations which are the Shewhart's control card and the T² Hotelling’s card. The fourth chapter is a synthesis of methodologies to facilitate the deployment of the methods in the industry. The fifth chapter presents an experimental application of inertial steering and a debriefing on the matrix steering used in a watch manufacturer company. Conclusion reiterates the main contributions of this work

Fergani, Soheib 23 October 2014 (has links)
The main issue of this thesis is to work out new Global Chassis MIMO controllers that enhance the overall dynamics of the vehicle while preserving the vehicle stability in critical driving situations. Many innovative strategies have been explored and finalized to deal with these problematics. Various solutions have been given to deal with the vehicle stability and performance objectives. Indeed, many works based on the LPV/Hinf approach have been developed to control simultaneously the braking, steering and suspension actuators. On the other hand, innovative road profile estimation strategies have been introduced and validated via experimental procedures, providing new cheap and easily implementable techniques to estimate the road profile characteristics. Then, the vehicle control is adapted, depending on the road roughness (since it influences greatly the behaviour and the stability of the car). Several fault tolerant control strategies have been also considered to handle the actuators failures while keeping the vehicle stability, safety and enhancing the dynamical behaviour of the car in dangerous and critical driving situations. The general content of this thesisis as follows :-PART I : Theoretical backgrounds and vehicle modeling.-PART II : Road adaptive control vehicle dynamics.-PART III : Global chassis control using several actuators. Also, during this thesis and using the previous works of the advisors and the thesis results, a Matlab ToolBox "Automotive" has been developed to provide a bench test for the different automotive control studies. Implementations on test beds and real vehicle are also achieved to prove the efficiency of the proposed strategies.
