Teacher and Principal Satisfaction with the Public/Private Partnership Process in Building School Facilities

Barber, Ryan Neal 04 March 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine if the instructional and organizational needs of educators were fully met in school buildings constructed through the provision of a public/private partnership and the degree of satisfaction in the completed facility. This study examined the implementation of the Public/Private Education Facilities and Infrastructure Act of 2002 (PPEA) in the Commonwealth of Virginia to construct public school facilities. School divisions that entered into a school construction project using the provisions of a public/private partnership between 2002 and 2013 were identified by the Virginia Department of Education. An electronic survey was created to solicit feedback from participants regarding their level of input and engagement during the planning and design stages of development and teacher and principal satisfaction with the completed school facility. The survey instrument had 33 items. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. The frequency and percentage from each category, mean, and mode were also reported for each quantitative survey item. Qualitative data were examined by response categories according to the experiences teachers and principals. The Public/Private Partnership Survey was sent to the administrators and teachers of 14 public schools throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. There were 131 participants from 14 schools that completed and returned the survey. The findings indicated that while some participants had an ideal experience throughout the construction project, the majority of the participants did not feel that they had significant engagement or input during the planning stages prior to the public/private partnership school construction project. Additionally, while thankful for an improved school facility, teachers and principals consistently responded that if their feedback had been valued, they would be working in a completed school facility better suited to meet the needs of all stakeholders. Principals and teachers who were the most satisfied with their school facility had high levels of engagement during the planning stages, the input they provided was valued, and translated into the educational specification documents and into the completed school facility. / Ed. Evaluating 'living well' with mild-to-moderate dementia: Co-production and validation of the IDEAL My Life Questionnaire

Clare, L., Pentecost, C., Collins, R., Martyr, A., Litherland, R., Morris, R.G., Quinn, Catherine, Gamble, L.D., Sabatini, S., Victor, C. 01 September 2023 (has links)
Yes / We aimed to co-produce and validate an accessible, evidence-based questionnaire measuring 'living well' with dementia that reflects the experience of people with mild-to-moderate dementia. Nine people with dementia formed a co-production group. An initial series of workshops generated the format of the questionnaire and a longlist of items. Preliminary testing with 53 IDEAL cohort participants yielded a shortlist of items. These were tested with 136 IDEAL cohort participants during a further round of data collection and assessed for reliability and validity. The co-production group contributed to decisions throughout and agreed the final version. An initial list of 230 items was reduced to 41 for initial testing, 12 for full testing, and 10 for the final version. The 10-item version had good internal consistency and test-retest reliability, and a single factor structure. Analyses showed significant large positive correlations with scores on measures of quality of life, well-being, and satisfaction with life, and expected patterns of association including a significant large negative association with depression scores and no association with cognitive test scores. The co-produced My Life Questionnaire is an accessible and valid measure of 'living well' with dementia suitable for use in a range of contexts. / This work was supported by the Economic and Social Research Council, National Institute for Health and Care Research (ES/L001853/2), and Alzheimer’s Society (348, AS-PR2-16-001).

The value of the 1999 USMC retention survey in explaining the factors that influence Marines' subsequent stay/leave behavior

Cakmak, Yasar 03 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release, distribution is unlimited / This study examines the factors that influence active duty Marines in their retention decisions. Data from the 1999 US Marine Corps retention survey are matched with actual retention data from personnel files and limited to Marines eligible to make a stay/leave decision within 24 months of the survey. Four subgroups are defined: enlisted first-term males, enlisted first-term females, enlisted career males and officer junior grade males. Bivariate analysis of explanatory control variables (personal characteristics and military background) and focus variables (responses to questionnaire items about civilian employment opportunities and satisfaction with aspects of military life) indicates significant associations with retention. Factor analysis is used to create seven satisfaction dimensions from the satisfaction variables. Multivariate logistic regression model results show that all the satisfaction dimensions are significant for the enlisted first term male model. Satisfaction dimensions for pay and benefits, health benefits, work equity, current job characteristics, and future career opportunities are significant in one or more of the remaining models. Searching for a civilian job is significant in all models and perceptions of civilian job opportunities are significant in most. Among control variables, the interaction of marital status, dependents, and working spouse has a significant effect on retention for first term enlisted males, the only group large enough to test. / First Lieutenant, Turkish Army

Kan man vara nöjd med sin prokrastinering? : En studie av aktiva prokrastinerares tillfredsställelse med sin studieprocess / Can You Be Satisfied With Your Procrastination? : A study of active procrastinators satisfaction with their studying process

Fogelmark, Rasmus, Tidman, Tomas January 2019 (has links)
This study examined active procrastination in relation to satisfaction with the studying process. Procrastination can be defined as a delay of tasks that lead to negative consequences for the individual. In contrast to traditional procrastination, active procrastination is adaptive in nature and associated with positive characteristics and consequences, which has spawned criticism that active procrastination cannot properly be defined as procrastination. The purpose of this study was to examine active procrastinator’s satisfaction with their studying process in order to nuance the view of active procrastination as well as determining whether active procrastination can be defined as a form of procrastination. Data was collected through self-report questionnaires distributed to students at Linnaeus University. The groups active, passive and non-procrastinators were compared on the variable satisfaction with the studying process, and correlations were made. All groups were statistically different, with non-procrastinators being the most satisfied and passive procrastinators the least satisfied. The results indicate that active procrastinators experience negative aspects of their behaviour, despite its adaptive nature. The measure of active procrastination is evaluated and implications of the present study are discussed.

The comparative effectiveness of chiropractic on function, health, depressive symptoms, and satisfaction with care among medicare beneficiaries

Weigel, Paula Anne Michel 01 May 2014 (has links)
Musculoskeletal complaints are one of the most common reasons for visits to medical and chiropractic professionals in the United States, and spine-related symptoms in particular comprise the largest share of these complaints. Spine-related conditions increase as people age, having implications for rising disability and consequent spending by Medicare and Medicaid on increased health services use and long-term services and support. Chiropractic is one type of treatment used by older adults with these types of health problems. Covered by Medicare since 1972, chiropractic spinal manipulation is allowed for the express purpose to arrest the progression of functional decline or restore and possibly improve patient function. No studies, however, have examined whether chiropractic use by Medicare beneficiaries has indeed arrested functional decline, delayed disability, or restored health. The purpose of this dissertation research is to examine the comparative effectiveness of chiropractic use relative to no treatment and alternative medical care on the health and functional trajectories of community-dwelling older adults. I also examine the comparative effect of chiropractic on satisfaction with care. This is accomplished through the use of two longitudinal surveys with representative Medicare populations linked to Medicare provider claims. The first analysis examines the long-term comparative effect of chiropractic relative to no use and alternative care on functional decline, self-rated health decline, and the onset of additional depressive symptoms in a cohort of older Medicare beneficiaries, both with and without back conditions. The second study examines the effect of chiropractic compared to medical only episodes of care on health and functional decline in an older adult population with uncomplicated back conditions over a two-year period. The third and final study examines the comparative effect of chiropractic relative to medical care only on one-year changes in function, self-rated health, and satisfaction with care in a nationally representative age-eligible Medicare population with spine-related musculoskeletal conditions. Study results suggest that chiropractic has a consistently protective effect when compared to routine alternative medical care against decline in function among older adults with spine-related conditions, both over the long-term and the short-term. Chiropractic also has a comparative protective effect against decline in self-rated health in the short-term, but has no differential effect on the onset of depressive symptoms either in the short-term or long-term . Medicare beneficiaries using chiropractic for spine-related health conditions are relatively more satisfied than those using medical care only with the information provided to them about their condition, and with follow-up care provided after the initial visit. This research is the first of its kind to examine the comparative effectiveness of chiropractic relative to other usual sources of care for Medicare beneficiaries, in general and specifically among those with spine-related conditions, finding that chiropractic use has a comparatively beneficial effect on function, health, and satisfaction with care. The results have important policy implications for clinicians, patients, and Medicare because of the potential to shift clinical practice away from technologically intense and expensive treatments toward therapies like chiropractic spinal manipulation that demonstrate a comparative advantage in preserving health and function among older adults.

Predictors Of Body Image Among University Students

Yumurtaci, Duygu 01 September 2012 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis aimed to investigate predictors of body image which were irrational beliefs, socially-prescribed perfectionism, social comparison, physical activity level and satisfaction with life among university students. Participants were included of 790 undergraduate students from different departments of in a large state university and sample is selected according to convenience sampling method. Multidimensional Body Self Relations Scale, Irrational Beliefs Scale-Short, Socially-Prescribed Perfectionism Scale, Social Comparison Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale and demographic information form were used to collect the data. Multiple regression analysis was used to explain the hypothesized model of predictors of body image. Results indicated that irrational beliefs, social comparison, physical activity level and satisfaction with life predicted body image positively whereas the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism was positive but non-significant. In addition comparing the mean scores of scales by gender, total score of body image was higher in men than women. Findings of this study revealed that social comparison was playing a significant role in forming body image followed by spending little time vs. much time engaging with sportive activities, irrational beliefs, satisfaction with life and having little time vs. average time for physical activities. Results were discussed regarding to the relevant literature.

Early Maladaptive Schemas And Well-being:importance Of Parenting Styles And Other Psychological Resources

Unal, Beyza 01 September 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of the present study was to examine the differences in demographic variables (i.e., gender, age, mother&rsquo / s and father&rsquo / s education level, monthly income, and residence status) on the measures of the study (i.e., parenting styles, schema domains, personality dimensions, coping styles, perceived social support, and well-being) of the study. Secondly, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between these measures and to determine the associated factors of schema domains, personality dimensions, other psychological resources namely coping strategies and perceived social support, and lastly, psychological symptoms and life satisfaction. For these purposes, data was collected from 309 university students aging between 18-33 years old, from different cities in Turkey. The results revealed that schemas were closely related to perceived negative parenting / and besides their significant effects, it was found out that personality dimensions, coping strategies, and perceived social support had important role on psychological symptoms and life satisfaction. Especially having higher levels of neuroticism, insufficient usage of coping strategies, and lower levels of perceived social support, besides perceiving high levels of negative parenting, and having stronger schema structure in Disconnection/Rejection domain were associated with higher levels of psychological symptoms and lower levels of life satisfaction. These results indicated that psychological resources (i.e., personality, coping strategies, and perceived social support) have additional effects on well-being. Finally, implications of these results and limitations of the study were discussed in line with the literature and suggestions for future studies were mentioned.
