First essay devoted to the problem of merger profitability valuation. Using real-option approach, a simple model is developed to expand accuracy in decision making process about merger possibility. This model considers uncertainty of situation and provides flexibility in company’s strategy. According to this approach profitability of merger may be calculated by using value of premium paid for acquiring company and value of synergy that expected from merge of two companies. Main problem of merger’s valuation in this approach is correct definition of synergy. In second essay, merger of two publishing companies Addison Wesley Longman and Simon & Schuster is analyzed. Positive experience in choosing candidates for merge, pre- and post-acquisition decision making process can serve as a good example of effective merger’s management.

La synthèse d’hétérocycles azotés énantiopurs est un enjeu important dans la chimie du vivant et représente l’un des axes de notre laboratoire depuis quelques années. L’ensemble du travail a bénéficié pour cela du « pool chiral » constitué par les acides aminés naturels. Dans la première partie de notre travail, nous avons utilisé l’acide aspartique à partir duquel des exemples variés de β-amino-ynones ont été construits. Leur cyclisation par catalyse à l’or a donné accès à des pyridones, précurseurs de dérivés pipécoliques énantiopurs. Un travail analogue a été entrepris sur des γ-amino-ynones et a donné un résultat moins prévisible : cyclisation à cinq sommets suivie du réarrangement de Meyer-Schuster. Cette synthèse s’est montrée plus efficace en milieu acide méthane sulfonique qu’en présence d’or et représente un nouveau mode d’accès aux vinylogues d’amides de la pyrrolidine, intermédiaires-clé en synthèse totale. Enfin, l’utilisation d’un acide de Lewis, ZnCl₂, sur des γ- et δ-amino-ynones a fourni des imines cycliques, à cinq ou six sommets et portant un alcyne, que nous avons isolées sous forme libre ou complexée par l’acide de Lewis. / The synthesis of enantiopure nitrogen heterocycles is an important issue in chemistry and has been part our laboratory work for several years. The entire work took advantage of the chiral pool consisting of natural amino acids. In the first part of our work, we used aspartic acid from which various examples of β-amino-ynones were built. Their catalytic cyclization gave access to pyridones that were used as enantiopure pipecolic acid precursors. A similar work was undertaken on γ-amino-ynones and gave a less predictable result: cyclization to a five members ring followed by Meyer-Schuster rearrangement. This synthesis was more effective in a methane sulfonic acid medium than in the presence of gold and represents a new mode of access to pyrrolidine vinylogous amides that are key-intermediate in total synthesis. Finally, the use of a Lewis acid -ZnCl₂- on γ- and δ-amino-ynones provided five and six members cyclic imines, carrying an alkyne, which we isolated in the free form or complexed with the Lewis acid.

This feminist analysis addresses Lindsey Collen’s intertextual use of myth in The Rape of Sita and how her reformation of the parodied texts becomes a resistance to patriarchy. Collen’s examination of possible counteractions against patriarchy is analysed and it is determined whether or not she posits writing, especially demythologization, as the best resistance to patriarchal discourse. Also, her assertion that transformation and a unity of the sexes are needed to bring about equality is studied. The methodology used is qualitative and inductive. The sources are examined and interpreted through close-reading strategies which reveal the complexities of the text and the way in which Collen subverts myth. Classical and Hindu myths and other texts, such as T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land, are re-read and re-examined to investigate to what extent they have challenged or championed patriarchal ideology, through which it is hoped that a greater understanding of the way in which mythology contributes to attitudes to rape is gained. Three other texts dealing with rape are also studied, in order to better place Collen’s novel in context of the genre. Primarily, feminist criticism, particularly with an African feminist viewpoint, is used. However, because a conflation of post-colonial and postmodern approaches is embedded within feminism, these concepts are dealt with also. Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster (1880-1954), abate di San Paolo fuori le Mura e, successivamente, arcivescovo di Milano dal 1929 al 1954, ricoprì, durante il periodo romano, importanti incarichi sia all’interno dell’Ordine benedettino che della curia romana per volontà di Pio X, Benedetto XV e Pio XI. Egli diede un contributo decisivo in svariati ambiti: insegnò presso la Scuola di Musica sacra, fu consultore della Congregazione dei Riti, preside del Pontificio Istituto Orientale e presidente della Pontificia Commissione di arte sacra. Personalità particolarmente sensibile, fu in contatto con il mondo benedettino europeo, sostenne il movimento liturgico e si mostrò aperto verso la Chiesa ortodossa e gli ebrei. Dal punto di vista politico, infine, Schuster affermò con chiarezza la necessità che lo Stato riconoscesse l’importante azione sociale della Chiesa, denunciando le ingerenze e i soprusi commessi sia dal governo liberale che da quello fascista. / Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster (1880-1954) was a Benedictine monk at the Basilica of Saint-Paul-Outside-the-Walls in Rome and Archbishop of Milan from 1929 to 1954. During his stay in Rome he held high offices for both the Benedictine order and the Roman Curia thanks to Popes Pius X, Benedict XV and Pius XI. He provided decisive contributions to various fields: teacher at the Institute of Sacred Music, Consultor to the Sacred Congregation of Rites, President of the Pontifical Oriental Institute and President of the Commission for Sacred Art. Man with a highly sensitive personality, Cardinal Schuster got in touch with the European Benedictine community, promoted the Liturgical Movement and showed his openness to the Orthodox Church and the Jewish people. In the political field Schuster clearly stated the necessity of the State to admit the important social action carried on by the Church, while blaming interferences and abuses of both the Liberal and Fascist Government.
