Kristna friskolor : En kvalitativ studie om föräldrars val av kristna friskolor

Furuvik, Anna January 2010 (has links)

This paper is based on a study of the Christian religious school. In Sweden today, surveys have shown that there is a common fear and negative attitude towards Christian religious schools. Despite this fact these schools increase in numbers, which makes it relevant to investigate what reasons the parents base their decision on when making Christian religious schools their school of choice for their children. The formulation of the question in this paper is therefore based on why the parents choose to place their children in a Christian religious school. Previous research on this topic is very scarce and poor, which makes it a relevant topic to investigate more thoroughly. The method used in the survey is interviews made with parents, teachers and principals who all have a connection to a Christian religious school; either by having their children placed in one, or by working in one them selves.

The result of the survey shows that parents often place their children in a Christian religious school because they feel safeness in this kind of school, which is in line with the previous research that has been made in this area. The safeness is often related to that the parents share common ideals and visions with the school. Moreover the result of the survey also shows that common conceptions among people about Christian religious schools not at all reflect the reality. An example of such a misconception is that children in Christian religious schools get segregated with people of similar class or religious background to a greater extent than children in regular public schools, which the well-known researchers claim. In fact, this survey showed the exact opposite; the municipal schools are in general more segregated than their religious equivalents.

Fundamentals of Segregation

Mihiretu, Yetimgeta 11 1900 (has links)
A common challenge during deposition of slurries is segregation as large particles settle through the matrix of fines and water. Whether segregation occurs or not depends on the grain size distribution of the solids, the void ratio or solids content and the rheological properties of the fines-water matrix. The rheological characterization of slurry composed of different grain sizes and varying water chemistry was investigated. The vane yield stress was used to characterize different slurries composed of clay, silt and sand materials. Semi-empirical fractal theory showed good agreement with experimental data for fine slurry. Comparison of yield stress at same concentration but different composition showed a decreasing trend as the composition of either silt or sand material increases. The pore-water effect was studied for representative kaolinite slurry. The yield stress was insensitive for pH values in the acidic and neutral range, while in the basic range it showed significant response depending upon the type of the chemical used to achieve the pH: Ca(OH)2 and NaOH. A modified segmented standpipe was designed and used in a series of experiments to determine concentration profiles during the sedimentation processes. Analyses of the solid content profiles and sand content profiles in the standpipes indicated a capture of sand particles which could be correlated to the yield stress of the fines matrix. Theoretical calculations, however, showed over-prediction of the captured sand size. A correction factor of about 0.2 was applied. Flume test on a high solid content slurries showed that the dynamic segregation is governed by all the factors governing the static case. Beaching profile shapes were not a necessary indication of segregating and non-segregating type of slurries. Modified version plastic theory for flow slides was used to characterise profile shape. Computational fluid dynamics approaches based on kinetic theory and bi-viscous model analysis were implemented and showed a reasonable capability in modelling segregation when compared with experimental results. A statistical formulation for segregation index, SI, was proposed. The index accounts for variation in depth of samples. Finally recommendations for future research are proposed based on the observations and findings made from the study. / Geotechnical Engineering

Att vara lärare i en mångkulturell skola / To be a teacher in a multicultural school

Fitwi, Leila, Atterlid, Camilla January 2008 (has links)
This thesis will discuss teachers handling of the background, experience and earlier acquired knowledge of students. Our aim is to study the teachers’ use of the cultural knowledge that of which the students already possess and the consideration the teachers have for the students own parental tongue. From this we want to see if there are any obstacles or pits with the work of gathering up experiences. The study is based on interviews with seven different teachers at a multi cultural elementary school in one the suburbs of Stockholm. We have in our thesis four central question formulations which this study rests upon and will be answered by our informants. The interviews will also help us to answer the question of the attitudes that the teachers take up towards the students and the impact of the near society. The results of the interviews have been analyzed and they have given us an understanding that there is a multitude of factors that affect and obstruct the teachers’ work in taking charge of the students own experiences. Another result that we have come across from without the interviews made and our own analysis of them is that the teachers own attitudes and experiences are of great importance towards this work. A great awareness of self is therefore required as a teacher.

Utanförskap i gemenskap

Abdul Hamid, Nahed January 2009 (has links)

The Building Blocks of Atlanta: Racial Residential Segregation and Neighborhood Inequity

Hayes, Melissa Mae 03 August 2006 (has links)
I conduct a case study of Atlanta's metropolitan core in order to provide a rich, detailed analysis of urban neighborhoods, and to document the persistence of racial inequalities. Using Census 2000 block group data, I examine racial residential segregation in the five core counties of Atlanta between whites and minority groups, as well as among minority groups. I find high levels of residential segregation between whites and blacks, as well as between blacks and Asians, and blacks and Hispanics; segregation is lower between whites and Asians, and whites and Hispanics. I also investigate neighborhood characteristics like percentage poverty and educational attainment in neighborhoods with different racial compositions. These results highlight the advantages found in predominately white neighborhoods compared to racially concentrated minority neighborhoods, particularly African American and Latino neighborhoods. Overall, this thesis shows that residential stratification remains a hallmark indicator of racial inequality through the opening of the twenty-first century in Atlanta.

Var bor du? : En studie om uppfattningar om olika stadsdelar / Where do you live? : A study on perceptions of different parts of a city

Sköld, Emil January 2009 (has links)
