Suggestions for Improvements on Shanghai’s Entrepreneurial Environment : A Comparative Study Based on the Different Perspectives of Experts and Undergraduates

Feng, Qiao, Liu, Jianchao January 2009 (has links)

This study focuses on undergraduates in Shanghai and aims to generate some practical implications on how to improve the entrepreneurial environment by enhancing undergraduates’ entrepreneurial intentions. The authors initiated an analytical model with support from the GEM conceptual model and Krueger’s intention model (2000) to carry on an investigation among local undergraduates. The data reflects an actuality of undergraduates’ entrepreneurial intention. On the other hand, by the correlation analysis, undergraduates’ preferences upon different aspects of entrepreneurial environment are filtered out. Finally, practical implications are given through two aspects. One is divisions of respondents by their different grades of entrepreneurial intentions; the preferences from the higher intentioned group will firstly be suggested to improve. The other one is based on the comparison between undergraduates’ valuation and experts’ measurement on the entrepreneurial environment.

In conclusion, the study reflects that the analytical model is applicable to undergraduates in Shanghai. To enhance undergraduates’ entrepreneurial intention, it is highly recommended by the authors to improve entrepreneurial environment through more attention to the feasibility of technology transfer, sufficient government programs for new firms, the effectiveness of technological region, and government projects.

Community in Exile: German Jewish Identity Development in Wartime Shanghai, 1938-1945

Reichman, Alice I 01 January 2011 (has links)
Between 1938 and 1940 approximately 18,000 Jews from Central Europe went to the Chinese city of Shanghai to escape Nazi persecution. While almost every nation in the world refused to accept these desperate refugees, thousands found refuge in Japanese occupied Shanghai, which was an open port and one could immigrate there with no visa or passport. In an incredibly short period of time the refugees were able to develop a vibrant Jewish community. Relying primarily on the testimony of former refugees, this thesis seeks to address three main questions: What did exile in Shanghai feel like for the refugees? How did they handle and react to the circumstances of their new surroundings? In what ways did their common exile unite the group and bring about changes in personal identity?

The Logistics of Information lectronics Industry between Cross-straitsBased on Global Logistics¡XAn Illustration of Hinterland near the Kaohsiung Port City

Tang, Chien-Chung 21 August 2003 (has links)
Abstract In marketing, the operation of port is similar to that of fast food restaurants in many kinds. When we operate a fast food restaurants, we should consider its¡¦ location, the amount of customer and connect with contiguous commercial circle. As well as the operation of port, the most important of that is not the facilities or management, but it¡¦s measure of area of commercial circle¡Xthe hinterland scope. Only the hinterland scope is large enough and its¡¦ economic development well, can support the huge investment of port building up, and also can keep or attract the shipper or the owner of cargo by more preferential fixed price. In economic development of the hinterland, the present economic development of mainland China can make up a deficiency of Kaohsiung Port¡¦s reducing of amount of cargo by shortage of inner market demand. When we consider the competition of Kaohsiung Port in the point of view, we analyze the proposition through Information Electronics Industry. Because of Global Logistics Management, the logistics mode between Cross-straits is providing mainland China the key to components by Taiwan, deep going processing in Taiwan. To export cargo to Overseas Configuration Center commonal from Taiwan and Mainland, Taiwan or mainland China Direct shipment, to estabilish Local Buffer Center in mainland China. Basing on this five logistics mode, there have high demand of physical distribution of Information Electronics Industry between Cross-straits, port play the important role in this process of distribution. And we presume that Kaohsiung Port can promote its competition by the situation. So in this thesis, we demonstration the close relation between the development of industry and the developing of port by comparing the Information Electronics Industry development in hinterland of Kaohsiung Port with of Shanghai Port. And we further analysis the development strategy for the hinterland of Kaohsiung Port and city. As follows is the conclusion of this thesis: I. In port aspect, we should replan the development tactics of Internation Distripark and Free Trade Port. II. In port city aspect, we should perfect the joint of air transportpion and marine transporzation, and regulate the industrial structure. III. In the aspect of the cooperation of Cross-straits port, first of all is to solve the directshipment problem between cross-straits to promote Kaohsiung Port to the pirot of Global and mainland China. Second to construct the group of cross-straits port based on the cooperation of Taiwan and mainland china. IV. In the aspect of government policy, we emphasize the development of Global Logistics Management into the logistics center of region or global gradually based on this policy.

The Study of China's Counter-Terrorism and International Participation

Tai, Chun-Cheng 24 July 2008 (has links)
East Turkestan is a geographical term and refers to Xinjiang in China. East Turkestan independence movement aims to unite the races that speak Turkestan and believe in Islam and establish a political and religious East Turkestan republic. Since 1990, East Turkestan independence movement groups have launched all kinds of violent activities in and out of Xinjiang, seriously threatening Xinjiang¡¦s social stability and Chinese Communist government. As terrorism has spread around the world since 9-11 Event, Chinese Communist government has regarded East Turkestan independence movement as a term for terrorism. Through participating in the International Anti-terrorism league, Chinese Communist government suggests East Turkestan independence movement as a target for anti-terrorism. Meanwhile, international terrorism has not been ended by the International Anti-terrorism league led by the USA, and instead terrorism has continued to spread around the world. Since 9-11 Event, anti-terrorism has become an important mission for China due to its territory completeness and national security. China carries out anti-terrorism campaign due to its national interests in a domestic political sense as well as its national interests in an international political sense, such as interests of politics, security, economics, diplomacy, and so on. In order to cope with domestic and international anti- terrorism situations, China not only takes measures in policy, law, military, diplomatic cooperation and Olympic Games, but also dominantly establishes Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) , aggressively participating in international counter-terrorism ,having an equivalent position with Russia and USA in central Asia, creating a subtle relationship of cooperation and competiveness with these two superpowers in the aspects of counter-terrorism.

A Study of People¡¦s Republic of China Participate to Construct East Asia Regional Security Complex

Huang, Hong-yao 01 September 2008 (has links)
U.S. led Western Democracies have imposed comprehensive sanctions on the PRC government by ceasing high-level exchanges politically and canceling bilateral cooperative agreements economically in response to the PRC¡¦s 1989 crackdown on Tiananmen Square demonstrators. At that time, former paramount leader Deng Xiaoping brought up a ¡§24 character¡¨ strategy for China¡¦s foreign and security policy: ¡§observe calmly; secure our position; cope with affairs calmly; hide our capacities and bide our time; be good at maintaining a low profile; and never claim leadership.¡¨ PRC did not gradually disengage from the U.S. led isolation until the U.S. government resumed high-level exchanges in 1993. The end of the Cold War meant that China was the major beneficiary of greatly reduced superpower penetration, and this strengthened the interregional dynamics of the Northeast and Southeast Asia. After PRC disengaged from diplomatic isolation made by U.S. - led Western Democracies and began to have the power to influence regional security affairs, a China-centered East Asian regional security complex was born. From lack of confidence in constructing in East Asian regional security complex in the mid 1990s, China became active and could rule the RSC after late 1990s. The goal of PRC¡¦s security strategy is to form an anti-U.S.-led East Asia military alliance to protect its national security interest. In the existing regional security complexes, the framework of ASEAN Regional Forum was separated into ¡§ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership¡¨ and ¡§non ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership¡¨ camps in 2003. China established the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2001 and allowed one of the axis of evil states- Iran to participate in the Organization in 2005. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization will develop into an anti-U.S.-led military alliance under China¡¦s manipulation. In 2003, the U.S. government urged China to play a responsible stakeholder role in the Six-Party Talks instead of being a draft- making secretary. The PRC¡¦s participation in constructing East Asia regional security complexes is analogous to a state that clothed neo-realism but harangued regional security interdependence. On the one hand it reprehends the U.S. East Asia military alliance as an out-of-date cold war thinking. On the other hand, PRC¡¦s military expenditure from 1996 to 2006 shows an annual growth of more than 10 percent. The mutual security in East Asian regional security complexes are still being constructed. China participates in The Six-Party Talks and ASEAN Regional Forum while sometimes it will depend on particular circumstances to make certain contributions, but rules the Shanghai Cooperation Organization with its full strength to keep it operate as China¡¦s political will. The aim of this thesis is to examine the changing characteristics of the regional security complexes in East Asia. The thesis focuses on the foreign policies and strategies of PRC¡¦s participation in those security complexes from mid 1990s. Finally, this thesis will to explore what will impact on the East Asian regional security complex when China participates in and try to construct it, and who will construct whom.
