The Wine Jars Speak : A text study

Wahlberg, Eva-Lena January 2012 (has links)
The Wine Jars Speak: A text study. Reworked and translated from a Swedish MA thesis, Vinkärlsetiketterna berättar: En textstudie from 2008 in Egyptology, Uppsala University. This paper examines the texts written on shards from wine jars found at El-Amarna, Tutankhamun’s tomb (KV 62) and Deir el-Medina. Information concerning the administration of wine and its production, found in these texts, is examined. Wine was an important element in Egyptian society and a common iconographic motif in tombs at Thebes during New Kingdom. A survey on previous research on the subject is presented. This is followed by analysis of the different reoccurring elements found in the texts. A definition of the standard formulation of the wine jar label texts is given and the minimal level of information needed for the administration of wine production and distribution is identified.  The chapter of the analysis deals with the various types of information given in the label texts, such as date, wine classification, and function. The next chapter presents the words associated with the vineyard, the names of the institutions involved in the production and use of wine, and the place names that identify where wine production took place. The following chapter deals with the titles and personal names of the officials involved in wine production. This study shows that these small texts contribute to an understanding of wine production. They also display continuity in form that bridges the turbulence of the Amarna Period. The earlier examples of these texts do not have an ideological component. It is first with the Ramesside Period, and the more intrusive inclusion of the name of the King, that some ideological intent can be identified.

Exploration of NoSQL technologies for managing hotel reservations

Coulombel, Sylvain January 2014 (has links)
During this project NoSQL technologies for Hotel IT have been evaluated. It has been determined that among NoSQL technologies, document database fits the best this use-case. Couchbase and MongoDB, the two main documents stores have been evaluated, their similarities and differences have been highlighted. This reveals that document-oriented features were more developed in MongoDB than Couchbase, this has a direct impact on search of reservations functionality. However Couchbase offers a better way to replicate data across two remote data centers. As one of the goals was to provide a powerful search functionality, it has been decided to use MongoDB as a database for this project. A proof of concept has been developed, it enables to search reservations by property code, guest name, check-in date and check-out date using a REST/JSON interface and confirms that MongoDB could work for storing hotel reservations in terms of functionality. Then different experiments have been conducted on this system such as throughput and response time using specific hotel reservation search query and data set. The results we got reached our targets. We also performed a scalability test, using MongoDB sharding functionalities to distribute data across several machines (shards) using different strategies (shard keys) so as to provide configuration recommendations. Our main finding was that it was not necessary to always distribute the database. Then if "sharding" is needed, distributing the data according to the property code will make the database go faster, because queries will be sent directly to the good machine(s) in the cluster and thus avoid "scatter-gather" query. Finally some search optimizations have been proposed, and in particular how an advanced search by names could be implemented with MongoDB. / <p>This thesis is submitted in the framework of a double degree between Compiègne University Of Technology (UTC) and Linköping University (LiU)</p>

Duchovní brownfield Olomouc - Zlín / Spiritual brownfield Olomouc - Zlín

Scholzová, Simona Unknown Date (has links)
The topic of the thesis is the proposal of a pilgrimage site in the area of the source of the spring Svatá Voda near Malenovice - Zlín. The building is located on the nearest top site near the existing spring and it dominates its surroundings. The design is based on a circle symbolizing eternity, harmony - Christianity surrounding the Paradise yard. This ring is intersected by four shards that represent disruption of harmony - humanity. These two types of masses are contrasting, distinguished by both shape and material. There is a church in the largest shard, in the smaller shards there are other smaller chapel or individual prayer rooms. In the ring, which is broken into fragments, there are located rooms like a reception, area of the church with, restaurant and technical facilities, non-profit offices that manage the area, together with a therapist's office. There are rooms with accommodation, classrooms and workshops for retreats as well.

Plná pálená cihla v současné době - perspektivy, možnosti, technologie / Contemporary technology of clay bricks production - possibilities and perspectives

Polláková, Lenka January 2022 (has links)
In the theoretical part, this diploma thesis deals with brick production, basic raw materials for brick production and the technological process of production itself. It also focuses directly on the fired brick, its legislative requirements and manufacturers who currently produce this brick in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The possibilities of current manufacturers are assessed in the practical part, especially in terms of salinity, mineralogical composition and behavior during firing of their production mixtures. As last the optimal firing temperature of the available mixtures is designed to achieve ideal parameters as frost resistence, strenght, appearance etc.
