Caracterização das respostas dinâmicas da corrida com calçados esportivos em diferentes estados de uso / Characterization of the dynamic answers of running shoes in different states of use

O objetivo desse estudo é: (a) verificar o efeito do desgaste do calçado na Força de Reação do Solo (FRS) e na distribuição de pressão plantar e (b) verificar a influência do desgaste em calçados de diferentes destinações de uso. Três sujeitos participaram desse estudo, usando cada um quatro calçados de corrida, sendo dois de treinamento (T1 e T2) e dois de competição (C1 e C2). Os calçados foram submetidos ao uso correspondente a 300km. As coletas de dados foram feitas, com o calçado novo e após 100, 200 e 300km de uso, utilizando o sistema Gaitway e o sistema F-Scan. Nos calçados novos, na FRS, a Taxa de Crescimento1 (TC1) foi significativamente maior no calçado C2, do que nos calçados C1 e T2. Na distribuição de pressão plantar, pequena diferença foi observada na Área total (AT) e nos picos de pressão, entre os calçados. Na influência do desgaste nos resultados de grupo, na FRS, o TC1 apresentou valores semelhantes entre as condições Novo e 300km, portanto o choque mecânico não se alterou. Na fase ativa da FRS, oscilações pequenas foram observadas e atribuídas a possíveis variações naturais do movimento, conforme descrito por SERRÃO (1999) e WINTER (1991). Na distribuição de pressão, a AT apresentou um aumento significativo da condição Novo, para as demais condições de uso. O aumento da área foi atribuído à possível compactação do calçado, sendo que essa alteração justificaria a crença de que o calçado novo precise ser amaciado. Entre os picos de pressão analisados, apenas o Pico de Pressão do Antepé (PPA) apresentou diminuição significativa nos valores, da condição Novo para os 300km. Observou-se que após o desgaste imposto, o estresse mecânico se manteve ou se apresentou menor que nas condições iniciais. Na análise da influência do desgaste nos diferentes calçados, para TC1, as diferenças que inicialmente eram significativas tornaram-se não significativas, a partir dos 200km, entre os calçados C1, C2 e T2. Os parâmetros da fase ativa foram pouco influenciados, porém influenciados de forma distinta pelo desgaste, nos calçados analisados. Na distribuição de pressão plantar, a área de contato foi influenciada de forma distinta em cada calçado. Nos picos de pressão plantar, grandes variações foram observadas, porém não atribuíveis ao desgaste promovido no calçado. Conclui-se que o desgaste, correspondente a 300km, pouco alterou o choque mecânico e o estresse mecânico nos calçados analisados. Por meio da destinação de uso, não é possível prever a resposta de calçados de treinamento e de competição ao indivíduo, nem supor que a durabilidade do calçado de competição seja menor do que a do calçado de treinamento / The objective of this study is: (a) to verify the effect of footwear usage on the Ground Reaction Force (GRF) and on the Plantar Pressure Distribution and (b) to verify the influence of usage in footwear of different destinations of use. Three subjects had participated of this study, each one received four running shoes, two of them are designated for training regimen (T1 and T2) and two of them for competition (C1 and C2). The footwears were used for 300km. The data collections were made in four different moments, with new footwear and after 100, 200 and 300km of use, using the Gaitway system and the F-Scan system. When footwear was new, the Loading Rate1 (LR1) was significantly higher in footwear C2, than in the footwears C1 and T2. Analyzing plantar pressure distribution, small differences were observed in the Total Contact Area (TCA) and in the peak of pressure, between the footwears. In the analysis of the different usage stages, the LR1 presented similar values between the conditions New and 300km, therefore the mechanical shock did not enhanced. In the active phase of the GRF, small oscillations were observed and attributed to the possible natural variations of the movement itself, as described before by SERRÃO (1999) and WINTER (1991). In pressure distribution, the TCA showed a significant increase from the New condition, for the other conditions of use. The increase of contact area was attributed to the possible compactation of the footwear?s material, if so this would justify the belief that the new footwear needs to be softened. Considering all peak pressure variables, only Forefoot Peak Pressure (FPP) presented significant reduction in its values, from the New condition for 300km. Therefore it could be assumed that after corresponding usage of 300km, the mechanical stress remained the same or decreased compared with the earlier conditions of use. The shoes of different destinations when analyzed through the conditions, showed that the differences for LR1 that initially were significant had become not significant, from 200km, between the footwear C1, C2 and T2. In the pressure peaks plantar, great variations had been observed, however not attributable to the usage. The conclusion is that usage, correspondent 300km, has little effect on mechanical shock and on mechanical stress on the footwear analyzed in this study. By means of the use destination, it is not possible to foresee the answer of footwear to the individual, nor to assume that the durability of the footwear are worse in competition shoes than in training shoes

O cenário competitivo da indústria da moda, no qual se insere a indústria calçadista, configura ciclos curtos e rápidos de produção e comercialização característicos do modelo fast fashion, porém, a crescente preocupação com aspectos sociais e ambientais tem despertado o interesse da sociedade por uma mudança de postura frente a estas questões. O posicionamento de marcas com foco na preservação ambiental pode viabilizar melhorias em produtos que ainda são projetados e manufaturados de forma convencional, ou resultar em inovações significativas no desenvolvimento de produtos ambientalmente amigáveis. A proposta do estudo foi realizar um diagnóstico do cenário atual do design de calçados ambientalmente orientado, identificando as práticas utilizadas nos processos de design que colaboram na redução do impacto ambiental do final de vida útil dos calçados. Para melhor compreender os fatos, o estudo foi subdividido em quatro etapas. A primeira etapa contempla a revisão de literatura; a segunda etapa é resultado de pesquisa desk; na terceira etapa, realizou-se levantamento de dados por interrogação direta de pessoas através de entrevistas em diferentes amostras; e na quarta etapa realizadas as análises e interpretação dos resultados. A pesquisa básica, de abordagem qualitativa e objetivos exploratórios, utilizou-se de amostras não-probabilísticas definidas conforme os critérios estabelecidos para cada fase Os resultados alcançados apontam que, mesmo com tecnologia e informação globalizada, na prática, pouco é feito em design e produção de calçados em prol da redução de impactos ambientais. Incluem-se nessa realidade clusters tradicionais de produção, como o do Vale dos Sinos no Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, sendo as iniciativas calçadistas que levam em consideração o cuidado com o meio ambiente, ainda, restritas e isoladas representando nichos distintos. A indústria calçadista segue aos moldes tradicionais de produção e percebe-se que, quando há uma mudança, esta é impulsionada, principalmente, por legislações ou acidentes ambientais gerados por seus dejetos, ou então são empresas que surgem com foco em desenvolver produtos ambientalmente orientados para nichos de mercado. Desta forma, na maior parte do desenvolvimento os designers reproduzem o sistema de criação rápida, obedecendo ao contexto de coleções e preços cada vez mais enxutos. O conhecimento sobre o assunto ainda é pouco explorado e, por consequência, falta articulação entre os atores da cadeia para uma mobilização efetiva na busca por soluções para o desenvolvimento sustentável do setor. / The competitive landscape of the fashion industry, which includes the footwear industry, sets up short and fast production and marketing cycles characteristic of the fast fashion model, but the growing concern with social and environmental aspects has aroused society's interest in a change position on these issues. The positioning of brands focused on environmental preservation can enable improvements in products that are still designed and manufactured in a conventional way, or result in significant innovations in the development of environmentally friendly products. The purpose of the study was to carry out a diagnosis of the current scenario of environmentally oriented footwear design, identifying the practices used in the design processes that collaborate in reducing the environmental impact of the end of the shoe life. To better understand the facts, the study was subdivided into four stages. The first stage contemplates the literature review; the second stage is the result of desk research; in the third stage, data were collected by direct interrogation of people through interviews in different samples; and in the fourth stage, the analyzes and interpretation of the results were carried out. The basic research, with a qualitative approach and exploratory objectives, was used of non-probabilistic samples defined according to the established criteria for each phase. The results show that, even with technology and globalized information, in practice little is done in the design and production of footwear in favor of reducing environmental impacts Traditional clusters of production, such as Vale dos Sinos in the Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, are included in this reality. Footwear initiatives that take into account the care for the environment are still restricted and isolated, representing different niches. The footwear industry follows the traditional patterns of production and it is noticed that when there is a change, this is mainly driven by environmental laws or accidents generated by their waste, or else they are companies that are focused on developing environmentally oriented products for niche markets. In this way, in most of the development, the designers reproduce the system of fast creation, obeying to the context of collections and prices more and leaner. The knowledge about the subject is still little explored and, as a consequence, there is a lack of articulation between the actors in the chain for an effective mobilization in search of solutions for the sustainable development of the sector.

Title: The Analysis of the Effect of Weightlifting Shoes and Bare Feet Lifting on the Performance Measures of Back Squat. Objectives: The main goal of this study was to compare speed, power, and depth of the back squat performed both barefoot and in weightlifting shoes using the training protocol 5 × 5 (5 sets with 5 reps) at 70 % one-repetition maximum (1RM). Methods: Ten elite, male participants (27 ± 3.54 years old, 93 ± 10.23 kg of body weight, 179.28 ± 8.54 cm of height) were involved and assessed for the purposes of the study. All participants' 1RM back squat was not lower than 1.5 times of their body weight and they all had many years of experience using weightlifting as a part of their athletic development. The assessment was carried out at the training adaptation lab of the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry, the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Charles University in Prague (UK FTVS). Each participant followed the same training protocol during two sessions not less than 48 hours apart; the first one performed barefoot and the second one wearing the weightlifting shoes. Utveckling av testmaskin för teknik i skor / Development of test machine for wearable technology

RECCO AB är ett företag som utvecklar räddningssystem för lavinolyckor. Systemet fungerar genom en RFID tag (reflektor) och en detektor. Detektorn känner av reflektorn som sitter på jackan, hjälmen, skon eller pjäxan upp till 200 meters avstånd eller 30 meter genom snön. Detektorn används av erfaren lavinräddningspersonal. RECCO ska implementera reflektorer i vandringsskor för att söka efter människor som är i skogen och uppe i bergen. Syftet med examensarbetet är att utveckla en skotestmaskin som ska kunna testa livslängden på reflektorn. Bakgrundsundersökningen genomfördes genom en informationssökning om biomekanik i ben och fot, olika benrörelser som kan påverka skon, olika typer av vandringsskor och olika skotestmaskiner som finns ute på marknaden idag. Genomförandet av projektet inleddes genom ett test för att undersöka hur stora krafterna är som påverkar reflektorn i skon. Testet genomfördes med en tryckkänslig sensor och en Arduino UNO. Den maximala kraften på reflektorn blev 7.1 N. Därefter gjordes en brainstorming som resulterades i sju olika koncept. Koncepten vägdes emot varandra med hjälp av en PUGH matris, som resulterade i att ett koncept valdes att gå vidare med. Analysen av konceptet genomfördes med Solidworks, Matlab och ADAMS. Med SolidWorks gjordes detaljerade ritningar och ett montage av modellen. Med Matlab gjordes beräkningar på lagerhus, glidlager, kulbussning och motor. ADAMS användes för att simulera rörelsen och för att verifiera Matlab-beräkningarna. Resultatet av slutprodukten blev lyckat. Maskinens rörelse och de påverkande krafterna på reflektorn efterliknar testet som genomfördes i början av projektet. Eventuella förbättringar som kan utföras är inköp av en starkare motor för att uppnå en mer konstant hastighet eller ett svänghjul för att minska påfrestningarna på motorn. För vidare arbete på slutprodukten kan RECCO programmera en strömbrytare som stänger av motorn vid uppnått antal cykler. / RECCO is a company that develops rescue system for avalanche accidents. The system works by a RFID tag (reflector) and a detector. The detector senses the reflector that is attached to jackets, helmets, shoes and ski boots up to 200 meters or 30 meters through the snow. The detector is used by experienced avalanche rescue groups. RECCO will implement reflectors in hiking shoes to search for people who are in the woods and in the mountains. The purpose of this master theses is to develop a shoe test machine to be able to test the service life of the reflector. The background study was performed by an information search about the biomechanics of the leg and foot, different leg movements that may affect the shoe, different types of hiking shoes and several shoe test machines available on the market today. The implementation of the project began with a test to examine how large the forces are on the reflector acting in the shoe. The test was conducted by a pressure sensitive sensor connected to an Arduino UNO. The maximum force on the reflector was 7.1 N. This was followed by a brainstorming session that resulting in seven different concepts. The concepts were then evaluated against each other using a PUGH matrix, which resulted in a concept for further development. The analysis was conducted using SolidWorks, Matlab, and ADAMS. Detailed drawings and assembly of the model were made using SolidWorks. The calculations were made on bearing housings, plain bearings, linear ball bearing and the motor using Matlab. ADAMS was used to simulate the movement and to verify the Matlab calculations. The result of the final concept was succeeded. The machine's movement and the influencing forces on the reflector mimic the performed test that was made at the beginning of the project. Improvements that can be done is to change to a more powerful motor to achieve a more constant speed or a flywheel to reduce the strain on the motor. For further work RECCO can program a switch that turns off the motor when the number of cycles are achieved.

Title: Analysis of running technique and efficiency when using Nike Air Zoom Alphafly shoes. Objectives: The main goal is to identify possible changes in selected physiological parameters and biomechanics of running when using Nike Air Zoom Alphafly shoes compared to standard running shoes. Methods: A 3D treadmill (H/P Cosmos Gaitway II S, Germany) was used in the analysis of running biomechanics. For the analysis of physiological parameters, the Metalyzer device was used within the spiroergometric examination of the run. The Borg scale was used to analyze the subjective assessment of the load. A paired T-test of Excel software was used to process the results. Results: The results of the work partially show a change in the biomechanics of running. A statistically significant difference was recorded at all speeds (15 km/h, 18 km/h, 21 km/h) in loading rate (p15 = 0,003; p18 = 0,000; p21 = 0,001) and time to impact peak (p15 = 0,017; p18 = 0,022; p21 = 0,003). At a speed of 15 km/h, an additional difference in running cadence (p = 0,044) was noted. Deformation in the Achilles Tendon when Running with Minimalistic Shoes : Review of Speckle Tracking Algorithm / Hälsenans deformation vid löpning i minimalistiska skor : Analys av speckle tracking-algoritm

The main goal of the project was to compare how the Achilles tendon is affected while running with traditional shoes, minimalistic shoes and barefoot. Displacement and strain were calculated both for different shoes and for different foot strike patterns. The calculations were done with a speckle tracking algorithm and displacement was calculated for three different depths in the tendon: deep layer, mid layer and superficial layer. The goal was also to conduct this analysis after a review of the algorithm used. The review of the algorithm focused on the size of the region of interest, kernel size and frequency. Literature study showed that it is more common to use a smaller kernel size, but the same shape. The region of interest was chosen depending on the size of the tendon. Displacement and strain in the Achilles tendon was calculated for seven subjects and the result did not show any difference in amount of mean deformation due to different shoe types or foot strike patterns. It was a small sample group but the result indicated a difference in peak displacement between deep and superficial layer depending on different shoe types and foot strike patterns. The difference in peak displacement between deep and superficial layer was lowest when running barefoot, larger when running with minimalistic shoes and greatest when running with traditional shoes. This result was only achieved when running with rear foot strike pattern. When running with fore foot strike pattern the difference in peak displacement between layers did not change with different conditions. In all conditions the difference in peak displacement between the layers was greater when running with rear foot strike pattern than when running with front foot strike pattern. The deep layer displaced more than the superficial layer (p<0.01) for all conditions and foot strike patterns.

Corrélation entre le développement de pathologies métatarsiennes et le port de chaussures chez des populations archéologiques Anglo-saxonnes et Euro-canadiennes

L’impact du port de chaussures sur la morphologie du pied a déjà été démontré et on sait que le port d’une chaussure constrictive et rigide augmente la prévalence de pathologie osseuse au niveau du pied. Dans le cadre de cette recherche, nous examinerons dans quelle mesure la rigidité de la chaussure influence le développement de 20 pathologies métatarsiennes. L’échantillon est constitué de 128 individus provenant de cinq sites archéologiques d’origine Euro-canadienne et Anglo-saxonne, comprenant 60 femmes, 54 hommes et 14 individus de sexe indéterminé. L’échantillon a été séparé en deux groupes analytiques (trois populations par groupe), selon le type de chaussures portées. Les individus de Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce, de Saint-Antoine et les immigrants néerlandais de Black Gate forment le groupe nommé Rigide et les individus de Barbican, de Warwick, ainsi que le reste des individus de Black Gate forment le groupe nommé Souple. Les résultats ont démontré que la fréquence de chaque pathologie dans les populations est généralement similaire et varie peu, sauf pour six des pathologies à l’étude qui ont démontré des résultats significatifs : les lésions lytiques, les fractures, les cals osseux, l’arthrose, les ostéophytes sur la base métatarsienne et les lésions poreuses sur les épiphyses. Seule l’arthrose était plus présente dans les populations du groupe Rigide. Outre cela, la plupart des pathologies n’ont pas démontré de lien fort entre le niveau de rigidité de la chaussure et le développement de pathologie. Ces résultats viennent partiellement supporter l’hypothèse qu’une chaussure plus rigide est néfaste pour la santé osseuse au niveau du pied, car d’autres facteurs (ex. génétique, climat, alimentation) entrent aussi en jeu. / The impact of shoes on foot morphology has already been demonstrated and we know that wearing constrictive and rigid shoes increase the prevalence of bone pathologies in the foot. In this study, we examine to what extent the rigidity of the shoe influences the development of 20 metatarsals pathologies. The sample for this study consists of 128 individuals from five archeological sites of Euro-Canadian and Anglo-Saxon descent, including 60 women, 54 men and 14 individuals of indetermined sex. The sample was separated into two analytical groups (three populations per group), depending on the type of shoes. Individuals from the population of Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce, Saint-Antoine and the Dutch immigrants from the population of Black Gate are considered to have worn rigid shoes. Individuals from the population of The Barbican and Warwick, as well as the reminder of the individuals from the population of Black Gate are considered to have worn soft shoes. The results demonstrate that the frequency of each pathology in the populations is similar and varies little, except for six pathologies that show significant differences: lytic lesions, fracture, bone callus, osteoarthritis, osteophytes of the base and porosity lesions of the head. Only osteoarthritis was most common in the populations forming the Rigid group. Besides this, most pathologies did not show a strong link between the rigidity of the shoes and the development of pathologies. These results partially support the hypothesis that a rigid shoe is harmful for bone health in the foot because other factors (ex. genetic, climate, alimentation) are also at play.

An Investigation of the Evolution of the Minimalist Shoe Through a Review of Research Literature

As an investigation of the evolution of the minimalist shoes, the purpose of this thesis was to examine popularity trends of the rise and fall of the minimalist movement. By evaluating the history and research behind the designs of the minimalist shoes, this thesis viewed the peak in popularity when minimalist shoes first made their debut. Initially, footwear sales skyrocketed upon its introduction. Its popularity grew due the prospective effects of improving athletic performance and the possibility of decreasing the prevalence of running-related injuries. To understand the sales trends of the footwear industry, various shoe examples from the different categories of footwear padding were also examined. Hence, after learning more about each type of footwear, it is crucial to understand how to transition safely and without injury. Injury prevalence has been suggested to be associated with the change in biomechanics involved with changing a runner’s footwear. Through the review of research literature on the subject, 33 sources of peerreviewed studies, found via Google Scholar or EBSCOHost using select key word searches, were taken into account. After reviewing the results and conclusions, a common finding suggest that more research is needed to come to clear consensus. There is not enough evidence to suggest that the use of minimalist shoes either lowered the risk of injury or improved performance. Hence, the decline of minimalist movement may have been due to the unfulfilled benefits that were proposed. After consumers did not reap the benefits of transitioning to minimalist shoes, sales trends continued to fall.

nÃo hà / This work entitled "The Influence of ICMS Substitution in the retail shoe in Cariri by Tax Collection Schemeâ aims to analyze the effect of the tax substitution in the footwear industry retail comparing this with the clothing retail business where there was no tax replacement. The econometric methodology used was the model "Difference in Difference" by ordinary least squares applied to the footwear sector (treatment group) which actually suffered the impact of TS in comparison to the garment sector (control group) was not exposed to TS. The database used in this study consisted of 2.237 billing observations, revenue from ICMS, and CNAE regime collapsed in the period 2004 to 2010 obtained from the Finance Department of the State of Cearà (SEFAZ) for Cariri in segment retail footwear and apparel. As result, in general, it has been seen that the tax replacement induced a R$10.771,77 (average values per company) raise in the collection of the ICMS for the footwear retail segment in Cariri. Specifically, the impact of the TR has floated depending on the company size, for instance, there hasnât been a significant impact to micro single entrepreneur (MEI) neither for small size companies and for companies in the special scheme of supervision (ESP), but there has been a significant impact for micro companies (ME), valued at R$ 4.548,89 and for normal size companies (NL), valued at R$ 24.586,17. / Este trabalho intitulado âA InfluÃncia do ICMS SubstituiÃÃo no comÃrcio varejista de calÃados na RegiÃo do Cariri, mediante Regime de ArrecadaÃÃo TributÃriaâ tem como objetivo analisar o efeito da SubstituiÃÃo TributÃria (ST) no setor do comÃrcio varejista de calÃados comparando esse setor com o comÃrcio varejista de vestuÃrio onde nÃo houve a substituiÃÃo tributÃria. A base de dados utilizada neste trabalho foi composta de 2.237 observaÃÃes de faturamento, receita de ICMS, CNAE e Regime recolhido no perÃodo de 2004 a 2010 obtida junto a Secretaria da Fazenda do Estado do Cearà (SEFAZ) para a regiÃo do Cariri no segmento de comÃrcio varejista de calÃados e vestuÃrio. Como resultado, em geral, constatou-se que a ST induziu aumentos na arrecadaÃÃo do ICMS para o segmento de comÃrcio varejista de calÃados na RegiÃo do Cariri na ordem anual de R$10.771,77 (valores mÃdios por empresa). Especificamente, o impacto da ST variou dependendo do porte da empresa: nÃo houve impacto significativo para o Micro Empreendedor Individual (MEI), Empresas de Pequeno Porte (EPP) e Empresas no Regime Especial de FiscalizaÃÃo (ESP); houve impacto significativo para Microempresas (ME), no valor anual de R$4.548,89 e Empresas de Porte Normal (NL), no valor anual de R$24.586,17.
