Accuracy of Medical Information in the Seventh Season of the Medical Television show House, M.D

Foote, Kristy, Marciano, Jackelyn, Pellerito, Joseph, Apgar, David, Armstrong, Edward, Warholak, Terri January 2016 (has links)
Class of 2016 Abstract / Objectives: To evaluate the level of accuracy of medical information presented in the seventh season of the medical drama, House M.D. To assess the accuracy of the presentation, diagnostic procedures and treatment presented in season seven. Methods: A descriptive, retrospective assessment of the accuracy of all the episodes of the seventh season of House M.D. Three reviewers independently rated the accuracy (on a scale of one to four) for the presenting signs and symptoms, diagnostic procedures, and treatment in each episode. A rating of one meant a correct and usual representation while a rating of two indicated a correct but somewhat unusual representation. A three was given for a correct but extremely unusual representation and a rating of four indicated an incorrect representation. Each researcher independently rated the episodes, and an average for each rating was used for analysis. Results: Results of the ANOVA test demonstrated no statistically significance differences between the three dependent variables (p=0.0782), therefore the Tukey HSD post-hoc test was unnecessary. The average rating for the treatment variable was 2.17 (±1.19), whereas the average ratings for the signs and symptoms and diagnosis variables were 2.74 (±0.92), and 2.87 (±1.14), respectively. The ratings for the treatment variable were more accurate compared to the other two variables. Conclusions: All three dependent variables observed in season seven of House, MD were similar in regards to accuracy falling between a rating of 2.0-3.0 representing a correct but somewhat unusual to a correct and extremely unusual representation.

Exploring the Effectiveness of Appointment Reminders

Levasseur, Lisamarie 23 April 2023 (has links)
Abstract Missed appointment, referred to as “no-shows,” are appointments that were not attended or previously cancelled at least 24-hours prior to the scheduled time. Missed appointments negatively impact patients as well as health care systems. According to Ullah et al. (2018), the financial impact of missed appointments on the healthcare system is more than $150 billion a year. Also, patients with chronic health problems (who are noncompliant with their scheduled appointments) may cause their conditions to worsen. Researchers have implemented several strategies to reduce the negative effects of no-shows. The purpose of this literature review was to explore the effectiveness of appointment reminders. The question driving this literature review was whether the implementation of appointment reminders via other means were more effective in reducing no-show rates, compared to the standard appointment reminder via telephone call. An electronic search was conducted using CINAHL and PubMed. Inclusion criteria consisted of English language, peer-reviewed, academic journal articles published from 2017 to the present. A variety of articles were found, and five of those were critiqued for this review. The literature was synthesized using the John Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Model. The key finding of this review is that telephone calls are the most efficient and feasible form of appointment reminders (Lance et al., 2021 & Lavin et al., 2017). Since phone bills are a normal expense for most businesses, health systems should be able to implement the use of this strategy. Keywords: appointment adherence, no-show, missed appointments, appointment attendance

Peter Mack Show

Mack, Peter 11 July 2017 (has links)
My animations and videos are personal articulations and reflections of the roles in life I assume: father, employee and artist. I have a particular interest in the seemingly mundane interactions in life, which often becomes a starting point for me to explore larger themes of family life, failure, and happiness. I approach these themes with humor and playfulness. The “show-and-tell” manner of many of my narratives, working in tandem with humor and DIY production values, gives my work the feeling of a strange children’s educational TV show in which I play the host, while underlining the personal nature of my work.

9/11: We Will Forget

Nettle, Jason 01 January 2013 (has links)
This study is based on the events of September 11, 2001. I will be writing a one man show containing fictional characters that I will write based on research of that day. The show will consist of numerous characters cut from different ages, religions, genders, and points of view. I will be portraying these characters using the tools I have acquired in studio and on stage. The challenge will be to make each character different and bring their experience and unique point of view to the performance. This study will begin at conception of the idea and follow the journey all the way to the final performance. It will show the struggles I encounter as a writer, performer, and producer.

Redefining Choreography For The "the Rocky Horror Show" For A New Generation Of Actors

Ellis, Timothy 01 January 2007 (has links)
As many veterans of musical theatre strive to keep a stronghold on the traditional form of the art with shows like "Oklahoma," "Show Boat" and "Carousel," we must recognize the life of said art form must also appeal to the mindset of new generations. In 1973, a rock musical began making waves in London's theatrical community. "The Rocky Horror Show" was like nothing anyone had seen before. The show had a plot but was presented like a rock show. The characters paid homage to a youthful faction of society wanting to express its individualism. Musicals continue to explore new avenues and bring new faces to the theatre. Shows such as "Rent," "Saturday Night Fever" and "Wicked" have garnered interest from a younger audience. Songs from these shows are appealing to the masses just as the songs from "Oklahoma" and "Carousel" did in the 1940's. A growing interest in musical theatre by the younger population can pique their interest in discovering other musicals. One way to satisfy this piqued interest is by infusing a youthful or modern energy to shows that can be adapted to the senses of this younger generation. "Oklahoma" or "Carousel" might not adapt well by being set in the 21st century. But "The Rocky Horror Show" already exudes a timeless energy with its nod to popular culture (its rock music influence). As musical theatre transforms with its audiences, so can some of its well-known shows.

Flying In Our Sleep

Strauss, John 01 December 2022 (has links) (PDF)
Flying In Our Sleep is a one-hour radio / podcast production of a story in which “Teens wake to discover they’re drafted into an army of killer robot drones and must outwit their deadly AI overlords in a desperate bid to escape.” This partly ironic summary sets the tone for an adventure story for Young Adult audiences with thoughtful elements around the meaning of consciousness, personality, and friendship. The project also includes a paper, “The Art of the Fiction Podcast,” that explains how the show was produced, and argues that digital media has a place in literary writing programs to expand the realm of creative expression, equip students with valuable competencies, and provide avenues of outreach to diverse communities.
