Boken : ett stöd i livets slutskede / The Book : a comfort in the terminal stage of life

Andersson, Katrin January 2002 (has links)
This is a study of the importance of culture for persons who are in their terminal stage of life. The purpose of my study is to find out if culture, particularly literature, can be a comfort for persons who are about to die. The study is based on interviews with people who are working in the palliative team at Norra Älvsborgs Länssjukhus (NÄL) in Trollhättan. It is also based on study of literature. It is literature about hospital library, culture in hospital treatment, palliative care, bibliotherapy and ”own stories” from dying persons. The result shows that culture can act as a kind of treatment of the soul. The interviews with the staff at NÄL show that some patients felt better due to the access of culture. It is important with good collaboration between the members of the staff, and this is the case at NÄL. / Uppsatsnivå: C

Om sjukhusbibliotek i Sverige under 1930-talet : en litteraturstudie av idéer om biblioteksverksamhet på sjukhus / On Hospital libraries in Sweden in the 1930´s : a literature study of ideas regarding library business in Hospitals

Furberg, Inger January 2012 (has links)
The study concerns the history and development of hospitallibraries in Sweden in the beginning of the 1900 century.Focus is on the 1930 decade, the time of major expansionof the area. The study is based on study of literature, mainlyfrom articles but also from a few booklets from the time. The purpose of the study is to find out how the librarieswere described in the literature of the time and which goalsand tasks they had. It is also to make it possible to increaseunderstanding of the history of hospital libraries, using it asan inspirational source for development of today´s businessin a time of major change. The result of the study showsthat those goals and ideas are still valid and serve well as aninspirational basis for development of today´s hospitallibraries. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Sjukhusbibliotekarier : En undersökning om hur sjukhusbibliotekarier som möter barn arbetar och uppfattar sin yrkesroll

Triumf, Isabelle January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this Bachelor's thesis is to examine how hospital librarians, who work with children, perceive their working practices and occupational role. A method of semi-structured interviews was used to provide data for analysis. Six hospital librarians, employed in five different hospitals, were interviewed. The collected data was examined by using both a content analysis and a theory-based analysis. The theoretical analysis is based on Øroms (1993) definition of the diverse occupational identities of a librarian: facilitator of culture, subject specialist, documentarist and social worker, along with two bibliotherapeutic identities from Brewsters (2011) definition of creative and informal bibliotherapy. Typical for all of the hospital librarians interviewed was that they see their work and occupational role largely based on the concepts of literature and reading as well as upon a bibliotherapeutic aspect. These two directions are also distinctly apparent in their method of work. The first aspect is based on the librarians’ role as a facilitator of culture: providing access to literature through their knowledge of literature and the collection of books in the hospital library; providing discussion and guidance to patients, relatives and hospital personnel. The second aspect is the bibliotherapeutic role that systematically promotes the patient’s health and wellbeing by their engagement with literature. The librarians consider pro-active contact with patients and relatives a most important part of their work and, subsequently, it is a main contributing factor in their professional identity. On the other hand, systematic and practical aspects of their work play a less significant role in forming their identity. Hospital librarians have a close working relationship with play therapy departments and hospital schools. Similar cooperation with medical staff is, however, not as well developed.

Patientinformation, vilken profession förmedlar den bäst? En systematisk litteraturstudie med tillhörande begreppsanalys. / The hospital library and the consumer health information

Abelsson, Tobias January 2013 (has links)
This thesis is a systematic review of the Swedish healthcare and hospital-library’s authorities on the consumer health information. The goal is to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses that are inherited in two professions (medical and LiS) with two completely different perspectives on mediating information. The method used is a mix between conceptual analysis of the Swedish term “patient information” and a Critical conceptual analysis, according to Fairclough, of published native theses and international professional journals. Conclusion of the thesis is that although the nursing and medical staff has the necessary medical expertise it does not, in many cases have either the time or skill to completely satisfy a patient or his/her next of kin´s information needs when exposed in a uneasy situation as when in need of treatment or help in any kind. The hospital librarian on the other hand does have the intermediating skills and most often the time to explain complex treatments or medical procedures, but the lack in medical or nursing expertise. In a perfect setting there is an inter-professional cooperation which brings a lot of positive results. The problem today is often to overcome the gap in awareness of one and other that exists in a modern Swedish hospital. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Arbetsterapeuters informationssökningsbeteende : En intervjuundersökning vid en rehabiliteringsklinik / Information-seeking behaviour of occupational therapists : An interview study at a rehabilitation clinic

Magnusson, Jenny January 2008 (has links)
This thesis deals with the information-seeking behaviour of occupational therapists. Focus was on three different aspects of information-seeking behaviour. The purpose was to investigate how occupational therapists conceive of work-related information needs, their choice and use of formal and informal information sources and their use of the hospital library. Twelve interviews with occupational therapists were conducted at a rehabilitation clinic in a hospital. The theoretical frame consists of a general model of the information-seeking of professionals by Leckie, Pettigrew and Sylvain. To characterize the various information sources and information needs, two other models was used as a complement in relation to the general model. The study shows that occupational therapists experience a range of information needs due to different work roles and associated tasks. The information needs were mainly of two different kinds: information needs due to clinical praxis and information needs of a more general character. These information needs were both on an regularly and a temporary basis. To meet the information needs, occupational therapists use a wide range of internal and external, informal and formal information sources. The study also shows that the interviewed occupational therapists gave the hospital library three different roles or functions. / Uppsatsnivå: D

”Kultur är läkande, verkligen” : En fallstudie av sjukhusbibliotekariers arbete med ungdomar / A case study dealing with hospital librarians’ work with young people

Hedlund, Emelie, Zetterberg, Lisa January 2007 (has links)
The main purpose of this thesis was to examine how hospital librarians worked with young people at a children’s and young people’s hospital in Sweden. We wanted to see how they promoted their health with culture and cultural means such as book trolleys. We did a case study, and made three qualitative interviews with the hospital librarians. The purpose was also to find out what the hospital librarians thought of young peoples. As a complement we also used textual analysis to analyse a pilot study and a few monthly programs concerning an ongoing culture project in the library. The purpose with these documents was also to see how health could be promoted by culture, and to see how young people were described. We have used two theories. One involves what roles hospital librarians fitted into while dealing with young persons. The other one deals with different aspects of health. The role that emerged most clearly among the librarians was one called the rehabilitative role. We could also find traces of this role in the pilot study, which we believe indicates why all three librarians tended to fit into that role. The librarians seemed to do their best to involve young people in the activities in the library. In contradiction to this, the documents didn’t involve young people very much; they mostly mentioned ways of working with children. Young people were only involved in a few cases. We also found that both the librarians and the documents were striving to promote health among the patients. To do this they tried to see to the well being of the whole person. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Läsningens funktion på sjukhus. En kvalitativ studie av sjukhusbibliotekariers syn på barn- och ungdomspatienters läsning / The function of reading at hospitals. A qualitative study of hospital librarians’ views on child and youth patients' reading

Andersson, Maria, Eklund, Nina January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to find out how a number ofhospital librarians look at child and youth patients' reading and itspossible role in a mental and physical healing process. We alsoinvestigate the knowledge, strategies and thoughts the librarianshave on bibliotherapy.Qualitative interviews have been used and seven librarians, at twodifferent hospital libraries with children's and youth activities, wereinterviewed during November and December 2011. The analysis isbased on one theory; we use Sten Furhammar’s model whichincludes four different categories of reading. We can see, according to the librarians’ answers, that the mostcommon function of the patients’ reading can be explained throughtwo of Furhammar’s categories. Our respondents believe that thepatients mostly read to relax from heavy thoughts and situationswhich can be connected to the category impersonal experiencereading. This type of reading has according to Furhammar not anenriching effect if it’s described as entertainment and relaxation. But in our study the librarians think that this type of reading can beenriching, and even have a therapeutical function. They alsobelieve that reading can have other therapeutical functions as selfreflection, comfort and relief from worrying which can beconnected to the category personal experience reading. We foundout that the librarians do not use the word bibliotherapy or workwith it with awareness. But they think bibliotherapeutical situationscan occur without their involvement or help. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Som ett vildvuxet träd : en diskursanalys av begreppet biblioterapi / Like an untamed tree : a discourse analysis of the term bibliotherapy

Källvik, Gustaf January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this discourse study has been to analyse how the concept of bibliotherapy in connection with hospital librarians’ work is presented in theses written in the field of library and information science. The theory is based on the work of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe. The main picture presented is that bibliotherapy is difficult to define. Most of the hospital librarians have heard about bibliotherapy, and they strongly believe in the concept. At the same time, the respondents are hesitant to label their work ‘bibliotherapy’. Biblio-therapy is presented in the research mainly as a practice. Among hospital librarians, bibliotherapy is associated with the reading of fiction. There is no consensus among them on how to define the term. A number of descriptions of how bibliotherapy can help patients with mental issues, bring joy and even save lives are mentioned, but no hard evidence is presented for this. Two central subject positions are discussed in this study. Hospital librarians are described as a group who need to claim their rights in the large hospital organisation. At the same time they are seen as a highly competent and reliable resource. The patient is scarcely represented in the empirical material.

Medicinska bibliotekariers yrkesidentitet : - en kvalitativ studie om hur medicinska bibliotekarier förhåller sig till sin yrkesidentitet / The occupational identity of medical librarians : – a qualitative study on how medical librarians relate to their occupational identity

Almqvist, Anna Karin January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to examine how medical librarians relate to their occupational identity and mediation of information. New technology and new ways of communicating information have influenced the profession of medical librarians and their duties, why it is important to examine their occupational identity. The research questions are: How do medical librarians perceive and relate to their occupational identity and as information intermediaries? How do medical librarians relate to their duties? The method used in this study is semi-structured interviews and the empirical information was analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The theory used for analyzing the results is Anders Øroms theory about six different identites which occurred in line with the development of society. The conclusion is that medical librarians have different and complex perceptions of their occupational identities but quite similar perceptions regarding their duties. One of Anders Øroms identities regarding mediation of information is the identity that suits medical librarians best. After further analysis using Øroms theory the need to add two identities emerged, one identity regarding information service and one about communication. By adding those two identities it is easier to understand the connection to the occupational identity of medical librarians.

Informationssökning på sjukhusbibliotek : Bibliotekariers utmaningar och upplevelse av informationssökningsprocessen / Information seeking in hospital libraries : Librarians’ challenges and experience of the information seeking process

Malm, Agnes January 2023 (has links)
Background: Scientific information is a central part of the evidence-based care (Rosenberg & Donald, 1995). Hospital libraries have opportunity to contribute to the clinical care, for example by offering information retrieval on behalf of healthcare staff. The aim of this study was to describe the information search process in hospital libraries in Sweden. This was made by identifying which components are included in the process and which aspects the librarians consider to be meaningful or challenging in the process. As a theoretical starting point for data collection and analysis, Ingwersen's model for interactions in the IR-process (Ingwersen, 1996) and Ingwersen and Wormell's description of important steps in a mediated information search process (Ingwersen & Wormell, 1990) were used. A questionnaire was sent to all managers of the hospital libraries in Sweden for further distribution to the librarians who worked in the libraries. 50 librarians responded to the survey. The study showed that the most important components in the information search process for the librarians that participated in this study were the user's request question, dialogue with the user and knowledge of databases' search and indexing rules. The biggest challenge was interpreting the user's question. The study provides an insight into the work of hospital librarians, which for example can increase the users’ awareness around the formulation of question and problem area when ordering information searches.
